Yellowtail - Shiraz
Tried, Tested, and True!
lol
Thanks Sandra! Will put that on my list! This reminds me of my Weight Watcher forum days. (I lost 15 pounds in 6 months over there back in 2006, big whoop.)
Anyway, every Friday afternoon we would start drinking (for real) and posting about what we were drinking (counting the points of course.) It would turn into quite a Forum Party. LOL.
Lilita - I am so sorry to here about your pneumonia! I work with patients with pneumonia so I can only imagine how miserable you must be!! Sorry, hope you feel better soon though!
Thanks for all the good wishes. Every day a little better. But 100% better feels a long way off.
Thanks for the ideas!!! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I know you'll be back in fighting form soon!
Thanks Mirazon. I'm actually looking forward to being back on IP and back to work next week. I need the routine. My wt. is drifting upward because I've been drinking regular soups and eating fruit.
But I'm not worried because I have all my IP packages waiting for when I am over this darned pneumonia.
And I have all of you guys here to give me support.
Not been feeling real great today....thought I had a bug...but seem to be better tonight. Think I am gonna go take a multi or 2 (since I haven't been taking them) and maybe some potassium, cuz I ache...al over. Didn't get much sewing done....Had to lie down this afternoon cuz I was running a slight fever.,,,no energy (and I don't have pneumonia....). Was supposed to go to Fibromalygia support meeting tomorow....but the thought of even getting ready tires me out.
Feel better torchlaker, definitely sounds like you have a bug!!
It definitely must be going around right now! I woke up at 4 A.M. (on my one and only day to sleep in, Saturday) and could not quit coughing! I am cheap and do not want to spend the extra $20 to goto Urgent care to make sure it's not bronchitis so I will be waiting it out until Monday. I have a feeling a nice big slice of Pizza Hut cheese pizza would make me feel a little better but I want to lose 2 more lbs this weekend so I can be at 149 and throw a little party for myself haha. Hope everyone finds time in their busy weekend to post, I find my motivation in all of you

What kind of a party? A shiraz tasting party? What do we wear? Can I bring some cough medicine and tissues?
Haha, since i am a poor little 19 year old I guess you ladies can bring the wine and I will have a virgin margarita or something, and yes cough medicine and tissues are definitely permitted!....oh and casual wear will work!
Hey, Birman - I'm glad you showed up. I'm sitting here with a can of Worthington burger, which I can't wait to try once I figure out what to do with it. I normally only eat fish and seafood, so I need to learn ways to use "burger" besides constructing the standard patty.
Anyway, I'm still slightly confused about how to count veggie meat alternatives on the diet. Are they protein? Are they veggies? Are they both? Are they whatever I want them to be?
I have tried to research online, but don't find any rules of the road for vegetarians (except on this site.) I know this subject has come up in the past, but I'm having trouble locating what I thought I read... Any help from you (or other veggie types) would be appreciated!
Novak, I read all the posts on both threads every day. Just most likely to post when I'm procrastinating doing something else.
Regarding how to count the veggie meat, I would definitely count it as a protein, not a vegetable. That's because it is high in protein. Vegetables aren't. Veggie meat also has fat in it which veggies don't. (Just for the record, I wouldn't count soy cheese as a vegetable either. I think that's ridiculous.)
Regarding what to do with Worthington burger, I personally don't use that on this diet, so I can't really help you with how to eat it on this diet. I use it a lot when I'm on the Suzanne Somers diet (which I cycle with IP) but not this one. I am also not much of a cook -- so not great with recipes. Personally, I quite enjoy the Worthington burger fried up plain, but that may not be your thing.
If you are looking for another good meat alternative, Worthington's Diced Chik has a super nutritional profile for this diet. Half a cup has only 100 calories, 0 g fat (perhaps up to 1 g), 2 g net carbs, and 18 g protein. I put that in soups, stir frys and lots of things. Tastes good! The burger doesn't have quite as good a nutrient profile for this diet -- more calories, fat, and net carbs. Half a cup of the burger has 140 calories, 3 g fat, 4 g net carbs, and 20 g protein. I think that would be fine in moderation -- though I myself haven't used it on this diet.
One thing I have noticed is that in the past couple of weeks Amazon's price of these meat substitutes has skyrocketed -- like, a 25% increase!
Regarding how to do this diet as a vegetarian, I think we just need to be clear about the principles involved, and vigilant about reading labels. Keep our calories, fats, and especially our carbs low, while getting adequate protein. Also be sure that we get a complete protein with all the essential amino acids within a day. Your being a pescatarian should make that easier.

I don't know how you can read all of both threads... I can barely keep up with one!
My inclination was to count these items as protein, but some of the comments I read led me doubt whether that was the right approach. So thanks for the confirmation.
Actually, I'm fine with a plain ol' veg burger. I'll probably keep pushing the fish for the duration of the diet, but it's way more than I normally consume when left to my own devices. I may eventually break down and try the occasional patty. It can't be any worse than some of the restricted items (which I've also avoided thus far)... I'm thinking the veggie chili in particular.
I think this diet would have been really tough to if I was still in my veg only days... the fish does make it easier, and I just don't have the time or energy I used to have!
Thanks for your broad insight on the boards. It's refreshing and very helpful.

I know what you mean! On this diet, I myself wouldn't touch those bars with a 10 foot pole!
If you are looking for patties and can't find Choplets, see if you can find plain (not breaded) "turkey" or "chicken" Quorn patties. Their nutritional profile is not bad.

Birman, glad to hear your thoughts on the soy cheese - I thought the same thing. I have not tried it...maybe one day.
Just catching the news on the earthquake in CHILE. 8.8 magnatude! I'm a Calif native but can't imagine getting through that! Wow.

I have tried several brands, both straight and cooked, and to my taste they range from intolerable to tolerable. Not "good". Personally, I would rather get the amount of fat, carbs and calories in them from a more pleasurable source. But each to their own.
