This is probably a dumb question but could you explain what you mean by Net carbs and total carbs?
Thanks
Sue
Hey there Sue!
Jordanna isn't often on the board anymore. Lucky girl! She got one of her greatest wishes, to become pregnant, and is no longer using the program as it isn't pregnancy approved.
Total carbs are all carbs contained in an item. It includes fibers, sugars, sugar alcohols, starches, and other carbs.
Net carbs is a tool to see carbs that effect you. This is calculated by taking the total carb value and subtracting fiber. The remaining number is net carbs.
I have never been a salad lover. I do incorporate bibb lettuce in my diet, but how much do you think I should be eating daily? Does it matter if I don't eat lettuce as long as I'm eating my 4 cups of veggies daily? I've had no problems with the Big C - so I figure I'm doing okay.
Thoughts???

Hi!! My coach is very strict about our lettuce:1-2 cups at lunch and supper is a must is what she advises. The best part it is a free food you can eat as much as you like. Have you tried romaine lettuce, very high in nutrients as far as lettuce goes. Check out the recipe thread #2 for my Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing (last page right now) it is Yummy!! Hope this helps.
I know we are allowed to have any foods that are 0 fats, 0 carbs, 0 everything else. What about sugar free jello? It does have 10 calories, but otherwise, 0 everything else.
I have been eating a container in the afternoon and it satisfies me until dinner.

Thanks so much! I have not been able to find a IP approved salad dressing that I like, so I will try yours. Thanks for the advice. I will try to get my salads in daily.

All of the Walden Farms dressings are 0/0/0. You'll probably need to lower the bar from "like" to "tolerate" though
I am going to my brother's wedding 10/30. I do plan to go off IP for the day. I'm not going to go crazy, but there might be a drink or two I'm going to have, plus some non IP appetizers, etc... I was told to have a piece of toast and some berries for breakfast that day to get my pancreas ready for that night.
Has anyone has this kind of experience or advice?
Thanks!

That thread is geared toward off protocol eating and advice. The FAQ is really just for strictly on protocol questions. That said, even a planned cheat is a cheat. You would really need to discuss this with your coach to get their input and how they think you should handle it.
My Coach suggested using Spry Gum with Xylitol. I found it at Nutrion S'Mart. There are also Mints which are really tasty!

I teach and also have cotton mouth, often. My doctor/coach said I can have up to 3 pieces of Trident with xylitol each day. It really helps!

The Center where we go sells the gum with Xylitol... Having it around saved me from many craving during the first few days... However, since then, I've not needed it except to freshen up my breath from time to time.
The mints were wonderful, but I found myself eatting them like candy... I'll have to watch that.

I've been caught more than once with my mouth so dry it sticks together. Hard to teach. I use Altoids' SMALLS (recommended here). Much better than either candy or gum. No unallowed sweeteners.
