Dieting did me in too.

Those comments sure were bad over there.

Default Doing Something Different, Starting Today

Good morning, ladies...

On New Year's Day I weighed 278. A few weeks ago, I had gained back up to 281, but have finally managed to get back down to 278 this morning.

I told my dh yesterday that all I've managed to do so far in 2010 is to lose two months. Very discouraging.

One of my problems has been looking for instant weight loss, instead of taking a longer range view of things, so today I'm going to do some things differently.

For one, I've just GOT to leave my scale under the bed! Seeing the number every day does NOT help me. I might even stick it in the back of the closet for awhile, but I'm not sure yet because my dh likes to check his weight every once in awhile.

Two, I'm going to stay away from my favorite low carb discussion boards and blogs.

Three, I'm going to keep December 31st in mind, and work towards seeing some kind of visible improvement by then, instead of letting myself get so frustrated that I can't lose twenty pounds in a month.

Instead of setting a number-of-pounds-off goal for the end of the year, I'm just going to work towards getting into my next size down jeans. I'm wearing tight size 26 jeans today, and will aim to be wearing my size 24's at the end of the year.

I'm hoping that giving myself that much leeway will take some of the pressure off myself.

It always makes me so hopeful when I hear Carol talking about the 35lbs she's taken off. Even though it didn't go quickly, it's off, and that's very inspiring. It tells me that maybe I can take a few off too, as long as I go slowly and don't keep getting so discouraged that I just "fall into food".

It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Vermont. I hope you all enjoy your day.

I was reading this post by this girl, she was talking about foods that triggered a binge for her. And I realized: I don't binge anymore! I couldn't identify with her... I remember how it felt, but I don't have that feeling anymore.

I have been binge free for a long time. =D

That's wonderful that you don't binge any more! It's a great feeling, isn't it?

Good morning, ladies...

Yesterday I decided to put my scale up on the shelf in our closet. If I weigh at all for awhile, it'll be once a month only. My clothes will tell me what I need to know.

Now that spring seems to be on the way, I'm going to concentrate more on getting 5000 or more steps each day. At least I'll feel better being active, instead of sitting around all winter like a lump--which seems to be what happens each winter, even though my dh and I always plan not to do that.

It's sunny and warm here again today, so I'm off to take advantage of it. Enjoy your day!

Default Newbie to IE!

Hi, ladies I'm new to IE and have been working on getting my mind out of the dieting process and wondering how many cals I ate. Today was better then yesterday and yesterday was better then the day before. I have only been at this for about 3 days now. I have been working on eating slower and drinking more water and stopping when Im satisfied. I have been counting calories for 3 months now and started weighing everything and measuring everything which has made me go crazy. So Im really happy for this change. Im looking forward to not counting calories and obsessing about my next meal. Any advice would be great

Welcome Carlyjordan! I think the best part about IE is not having to deal with all that obsessive behavior! It was recently suggested to me by a family member (again) that I should count my carbs. Ugh! Not!

Best advice ... patience ... and lots of it!

Hey guys..
I have read all the way from the beginning of your first IE thread and have been keeping up with this one for quite some time. It is great following you guys and your journeys, although I understand that when you are not obsessively tracking everything there is considerably less to "update" on so the thread is not as active as some of the actual diet threads. And that's okay.

I was recently diagnosed with an eating disorder (EDNOS) and my nutritionist/therapist is going to work with me to slowly learn to trust my body, let go of some of the obsession and need for control, and that includes weighing myself and counting calories. This week's assignment was just to stop writing DOWN my calories and to stop weighing myself at all, but we're going to do baby steps from here and I'm trying not to freak out about the whole thing right now.

Yesterday I had 10-20 grapes that I hadn't PLANNED on eating, I just felt like I had no control and I saw them for sale in the grocery store and I started snacking on them in the car, and I felt terribly guilty. I think it's important for me to start recognizing some of these disordered thoughts. I was wondering if maybe this thread is the right place for me right now? Even though I think I am a bit of a ways off from being able to listen to my body... I want to get there eventually. I want to heal.

I think this is the perfect thread for you and that you will fit right in with us. I haven't had a ED that I know of but I do become obsessive sometimes and have to take a break so I can regain my sanity. Of course the obsessive thoughts dont go away over night but the more you keep reminding yourself the better it should get overtime. I have been IE for about a week now and with everyday its getting better and better. It is hard to drop the dieting mentality and not count cals in your head but slowly overtime I'm sure it will get easier. I had a friend who lost a good amount of weight and has maintained her weight loss with intuitive eating. She always stops eating when she feels satisfied, I have learned a lot by watching her eat.

I haven't weighed myself in 2 weeks it was hard since I always weighed myself at least once a day but after a couple of days I didn't even think about the scale. I'm sure the weight wont come off fast but I'm fine with that. when I was dieting I only lost 3 lbs in 3 months so now that I'm not dieting I don't expect huge losses. Slow and steady is what I'm going for but I don't plan on weighing myself for a while, I was thinking about once a month but now I'm happy with what I'm doing and if my clothes are fitting or getting loose then why should I care what the number on the scale has to say. I have been focusing on inches instead of weight, I only measure once a month. Sorry for talking so much lol but I really like where I am at mentally right now, I feel so free from diets and bad food vs good food mentality and measuring and weighing food.

I wish I would of done IE earlier, this is a way of life that I can do for the rest of my life plus its free. My friends who are at a healthy weight naturally do IE without even thinking about it. Sorry for talking yall heads off lol

Hi Teff

This is a great place for anyone trying to find a way to eat and be healthy without dieting. We're all a little different.

How funny, that seems so obvious, but I never thought of it that way.

Hello Everybody

I haven't been here in quite a while and I see a lot of Newbies. I love when the thread is so active. I only scanned this page.

So first to all the Newbies

Becky I too have learned that IE has made diets obsolete for me. I cannot and I do not want to follow a diet. I do like to eat more healthy foods, but I don't have any desire to follow a plan per se.

I did learn recently of something called Circadian Rhythm. This was knew to me although others may know about it. The only way I can explain it is that you work with the rhythm of your body. I googled to find info and learned that there is a way of eating that I ate when growing up. I have shared before that I didn't have a weight problem until I started eating the way people said I had to eat... at least 3 meals a day. I remember having a friend who was a nutritionist make up a healthy food plan for me when I was in my early 30s. (I might mention here that she was obese herself.) I never followed it because I remember thinking "that is a lot of food, I can't eat all that food". One of the recommendations for eating for my body's rhythm is exactly the way I ate before I started eating the so called "normal" way of eating. I believe that is the way I am to eat. The only difference that I find is that it recommends eating fruit in the mornings until noon. I like the idea and can do that one. I eat mosty fruit, veggies and protein and I do eat healthy carbs. It feels great because I don't have to eat unless I'm hungry and I can eat what I want as much as I want or need, but I'm not recommended to eat a lot of food. When I eat this way, I don't have that stuffed feeling. The strange thing is that when I was growing up, I didn't eat breakfast because I didn't have time plus when I was home and we had breakfast when I was little Mama like sweet rolls etc and I wasn't a sweets eater. WOW wonder when I got into the sweets eating?

Now I've got to get into exercise. I'm thinking that if I just work at cleaning my house and keeping it that way that would be a lot of exercise for me.

Well, I've got to go back and read to catch up on everybody. Been pretty busy lately. Y'all have a good one and I'll come back as soon as I can.

Trish, the cleaning house thing.......I agree........6 bedrooms, 3 baths and only me here now to clean. Right now my garage is driving me nuts. I know if I try to get all the mud up it will be back in 2 days.

Does anyone here have a problem with being tired all the time? I went to the Dr. for a checkup a while ago and everything was alright except my weight. I really am starting to think that my weight is the reason I am so tired. I've started back taking vitamins again. A Woman's Supplement. Any suggestions? I haven't even had the energy to do consistent exercise on a regular basis. I'm wondering if there are any herbal supplements I can take. Thanks.
