Truffle-- there is no way I could do somethign like Atkins. I tried for two days, and felt absolutely awful! Ugh! It may be kind of diet-ish, but I'm going to have to plan out my food to get my body used to something more balanced. If I had to have a slice of meat everytime I had ice cream, I bet I'd eat less ice cream! Just the combo sounds nasty. I used to eat breakstone's cottage cheese w/ pineapple..these little single serving cups...but now i can't find them. Maybe I'll eat a little can of pineapple w/ a plain cup of cottage cheese... and yes, I could totally live on breads and sugars! I read an article and the writer said, " If you eat pancakes for breakfast, you're not going to have pasta for lunch!"..as if it was the most absurd thing ever. I was confused...why not? Maybe if I was having rice?
I've found a few things help with not eating way too much of things, and that's fat and avoiding processing.
For example, I do way better with raw almonds than with roasted, salted nuts (or peanut butter ).
Or, I'm satisfied with full fat Greek yogurt, plain, whereas lowfat, sweetened yogurt may as well be ice cream. I was amazed at how unsour the full fat Greek yogurt is.
It's not that everything I eat is super simple and plain. It's just a strategy I'm finding useful (and satisfying) when it comes to those snacky kinds of foods.
Both the things I mentioned help me get protein.
I've realized that the off switch is hard to find for carbs. I'm not carb-phobic, but I try to be especially aware and mindful with them.
This is a quick flyby. Don't know if I can be considered IE any more because I'm not losing weight and I just have to do something. I still consider myself IE in the fact that I eat only foods I really like and when I want, but I feel I need to know more about my how many calories I am eating. This is fairly easy now that I so many foods have the calories on it. I may just need to do this to get to the point to where I know how much or how little I am putting into my body.
Pattygirl, stick around! This isn't the "Perfect True Angelic Intuitive Eating Thread." If it were, I going to stick my neck out and say *none* of us would be here
I am about to break out my Weigh Down books and reread. I am still reading Weigh Down also.
I've read the Weigh Down books as well. I like Gwen's concept of "food greed." It helps me keep things in perspective... it's only food, I can always have more later if I'm hungry, it's okay not to clean my plate, rating my plate for the tastiest morsels first, do I really need another bite? etc.
I've also come to realize that the whole idea of IE is that there are no rules, what works for one person may not work for another. If you try something and it doesn't work, you didn't do it wrong, you aren't bad, you just need to try something else.
Becky, so sorry to hear about your BIL. Julie, I can't imagine ever "arriving"! I sometimes think about when I was a teen and dieting just go along with the girls when I was 114lb and 5.4. So strange. 50 years later I am wondering if I ever will be really thin again but it doesn't really matter. I am just glad to have lost 30lb and kept it off for awhile.

I quite often read on the maintainers forum and they struggle, too. So don't be discouraged intuitive eaters. We live in a land of plenty, for which I am grateful. Sometimes that can be a stumbling block for us.
Hi! Im new to this thread, Ive been on 3FC since I was 15 though. I am now 22. Ive struggled with my weight since I was about 13. Ive come to the realization that dieting does not work. For the past year Ive been making healthy eating choices. I eat when Im hungry and I stop when Im full. BUT, I havent lost any weight...Ive been hovering between 164 and 167 for a year and I want to get past this.
Ive been researching IE and I wanted to ask those of you who have been IE for awhile if your consistently losing weight? How are you going about it? Are you setting goals, or just going with the flow?

I have been losing weight, but very slowly-- maybe a pound or two a month at my current rate. I have a sig ticker to track my progress because it motivates me, but my goal weight is really unknown to me, since it will be whatever my natural weight turns out to be. I guess I'm going with the flow.
Hi, everyone! Just checking in. I know it's been a while. Had the stomach bug last week and I'm still not right. I think I lost 5 pounds just from not being able to eat.
Hope everyone is doing well.
