I just noticed last year that I no longer have a vehicle with standard trans. Well, maybe we should start calling auto trans "standard" as it is appearing to be the only way to get them now. I gave my Subaru to my DD's best friend when we moved here 4 yrs ago then I bought my Intrepid two years ago. Last year I got to thinking about having to teach my youngest to drive and realized I didn't have a standard to teach her in. I've not been sans standard since the carb went out in my '79 Dodge Dart, which was my first car.

My parents had twin blue Honda's. They were fraternal twins. Papa's was an LX and Mom's was an LXi. His was standard, hers was auto w/ a moon roof. I learned to drive standard in the Sears parking lot at the mall. 1st, 2nd, stop, reverse. 1st, 2nd, stop, reverse. Round and round in backward and forward little circles. Good lord, it's a wonder a cop didn't come haul us in for insanity.:dizzy:

Dodge Dart

Would dearly love to be able to buy a Dodge Dart today. That was a nice little car.

I could even live with replacing the points every so often.

[Not to be confused with Dodgers - a dart of a different color]

I guess you have to live in cowboy country to get manual transmissions. We can still find them around here. Not a lot, but they are still available. I don't think my husband would buy a truck without it. He hauls his business equipment around on a trailer, so he needs it. I will stick to automatic!

I learned in a small plaza parking lot and a cemetary. Why oh why would my dad do that to me? Gosh, it made me extra extra careful.

My son and daughter in law lived in San Diego for many years and a year or so moved to Galt, Ca. Galt is a tiny town near Sacramento.(Northern California to you easterners}San Diego is a very large town in southern California. My DIL was relating the differance of living in a small town, compared to a large city. She says in Galt if the locals see 5 cars on the freeway they consider that to be heavy traffic.

You got that right! Whenever I'm driving through Tracy after a camping trip, my left leg feels like it is going to fall off!

We're considering ditching it and getting an automatic. Should be able to do it with all the 0% interest packages out there right now.

I learned on the stick and we taught our kids also. "If you can drive standard, you can drive anything" I went to automatic when my kids were little. It was so much easier to deal with the kids and not have to worry about shifting. I miss my standard though. It always made me feel more in control and most of the time it was fun. Love those challenging BIG hills! My first car...Volkswagon Bug!! Loved it!!! No heat but FUN!!!

I learned on a stick and have had several sticks but have an automatic now because I am lazy. Everyone with a driver license should know how to drive a stick. A coworker of mine once had to learn to drive a stick while driving her boy friend to ER , he had to teach her while bleeding badly from nearly cutting his foot off in an accident.

Rather fishily this transmission talk is beginning to sound like a topic.

Sunday, after I'd finally cleared the house of holiday treats, a neighbor brought a big plate of homemade cookies and homemade blueberry muffins. Argh.

Would that, then, be an automatic homemade blueberry muffin?

Finished our anniversary dinner of pizza and beer. Had a great evening with my wife to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary and 14th year together.

I remember the early anniversary celebrations....it was automatic

at our age now it's manual.

Happy Anniversary To You And Angie!!!

There is a difference between a "Topic" and a "Train of Thought". A "Topic" is structured. A "Train of Thought" simply flows on it's own. Nobody could ever reasonably accuse a ThreadKiller thread of being structured. Just look how many Newbies come in here with "It took me 5 pages of trying to figure out WTH this thread was about before I realized you people is just plain nuts. Oh, BTW, can I join in?" "I'm nuts, too."

You can't look up the ThreadKiller Rules. There ain't none.:nono: (don't listen to Bill, he's just a poopyhead-not a rule, just sage advice.)

You can never fully understand what another poster is really thinking or talking about. The poster themself doesn't understand what they are thinking or talking about.:?:(don't even try to understand, :chin: it will only hurt you in the end.:headache:)

All you can do is read along and go, "Oh wow, that reminds me of the time when.......":comp:

The entire purpose of this thread is to provide ME with mental exercise and entertainment. Yes, folks, that is what it's all about. ME!!!:encore:

So, please, Sit Back, Relax and let the ThreadKiller flow thru you.:yoga:

Oh yeah, I also get to play with a lot of really cool smileys.:p
