Week 7 down! I will be adding another run tomorrow though. It's really getting easier and I feel like I can start working on some speed as I increase the minutes these last couple weeks. yay!

Default Enjoying My Cool Running Program

Hi All; this is week 2, but actually workout #5 for me.. I'm warming up w/ a 5 minute walk, then alternating walk/jog (2 mins each) for 25 mins and then another 5 min cooldown.. I'm not really in the cool running prog; as I feel that with all the cardio that I had prev, I jumped ahead a tad. The stretching prog that they provided on the site is good. I always do them bef & aft each workout. And I really haven't been unbearably sore.

This is really great. I'm enjoying the challenge. And I am so excited and proud of myself after each workout. I'm also a weight watcher, so I'm anxious to see what the scale holds for my next weigh in on next WED.

I can't wait to be able to participate w/ the cool runner thread; but for now I'm just a "cool starter" trying to get ahead . I'm anticipating joining one of the local running clubs in a couple of weeks (when I can actually hang and not hinder anyone from doing their thing).. This is a great thread..

Hey Miss Cretia! It's nice to see you in this thread!!

Today I did four intervals of 5 minutes jogging and 3 minutes walking. Five minutes was kind of tough, but during the walking interval I found myself getting antsy and actually WANTING to run again. Freaky. Next time I'll do 5 and 2.

Vouge- how fast are you going? My only advice is to go s-l-o-w. You'll still get your heart rate up and it will get easier in time!

WTG Miss Cretia and Lisa!!

Well, I started week 8 today and did the 5 minute warmup and 28 minute run!!! It was hard-- I don't think I ate enough yesterday (though I did have oatmeal and peanut butter toast for breakfast). Anyway, I hung on and did it. I downloaded a bunch of new music to my ipod and I was totally looking forward to running today, lol. It really helps me.

Thanks for the "welcome".. Hi LisaMarie!! It is good to see you! (write you, hahhahahaa)

Vouge - just wanted to tell you that very question re: the side pains came up on the coolrunning website. They say that it is a spasm of the diaphram muslce (muscle that assist w/ breathing). And it wl be less painful if you breathe out when your left foot hits the pavement/treadmill, etc. I'm not sure how true it is, but I do it all the time to be sure. And they said to watch the amt of food/ drink right before your workout.

Also I do a series of stretches (also given on the website) before and after each workout. I throw in side stretches (stretching one arm over your head to the side - bending in the same direction). I find that I'm really not as sore the next day, either. I thought I wouldn't be able to move but I was shocked. I felt great.

I'm really excited w/ my progress. I'm on workout #6 tom & I'm alt walk/jog for 2 mins each!! Without dying... I did 40 mins tonight!!!

UH OH! What have I gotten myself into?????

I was surfing the web today looking for races that are coming up (its pretty cold and rainy over here so there aren't many) and came across a site for a local athletic club that is holding a 2mile race tonight. I signed up for it! What am I thinking???? I can run for 3.5 miles on a treadmill but I've only ever ran outside once and it totally kicked my @$$. AGHHHHHHH! So I have a race tonight in 2.5 hours! HELP!

Hiya!

Well I just did my first race!!! It was a 2 mile race (in the dark) and I completed it in 22mins 6seconds. There was about 50 people doing it and I know that I didn't come totally last...maybe second last...I'll know tomorrow when the times are published!

It wasn't too bad actually. I did have to walk some parts of it as I just ran out of steam but overall I am thrilled! I think I just experienced a runners high! :-)

That is awesome Finn, congrats!!!!

I just started Week 3 today of the C25K. I was pretty skeptical that I could get through the two 3-minute running parts... it seemed like a big increase from week 2. But I made the jump to week 3 and completed the whole workout!

Lace em up, Vouge! I'm not working out today; church is tonight. I really feel bad about not being able to do my workout.. Isn't that weird? I do more than the 3 workouts/wk. I did 4 workouts - wk1; I'm on wk 2 - workout #3 (tomorrow). I'm really feel myself building up a tolerance to this. I just need to prep myself for wk#3!!!! I agree w/ the future surfer above (smile). I'm hoping I can build myself up w/in these next couple of wks to join one of our Raleigh running groups. We have several; it's just finding the beginning "slower" bunch - don't want to get left (hahahhaha!)

CONGRATS Finn; that's a great distance though for a 1st race.. Way to go!
