eadavenp, you did great! That first race is always hardest because you have no idea what you're really in for.
Yeah, the pee problem. I've had to work on that, too. I drink one cup of water immediately after getting up (then no more fluids) and eat a fiber one muffin about 45 min. before a race--I think the fiber soaks up any excess liquid.

Then I pee as much as possible until leaving for the race, which is always at the last minute. I know you're supposed to be well-hydrated, but my bladder just can't deal with that so I don't drink until after a race.
