W4D3- had a great jog this morning- never really felt winded and legs didn't get too tired either. Decided to go longer on the last 5 minute interval and did 12!!
Emily - Off course you can do it and ya know what you will do it! Best of luck!
I'm on my final week - week 9 here I come! Its so exciting, I really never thought I'd be running for 30 minutes...ever! W9D1 is this evening, I'll let ye all know how I get on...
Awesome Finn! That's where I'll be in just a month! Very cool...
Did my W5D1 this morning. The 8 minutes were kind of long...different than looking forward to those walks just to break it up a bit. The second 8 minutes were a little easier once I was sweating and into a groove. Still a little wary about the 20 minutes on Friday... I'm sure I *can* do it, but still a little hard to believe when just a couple weeks ago I could only do about 3, lol. It's amazing how fast our bodies can condition if we just give them a chance!
Just me again...
W5D2 today...realized that I did this run for Monday when I was only supposed to do 5 minute intervals so did the 8 minute again. Felt harder today, but really good at the end.
20 minutes Friday...ack!
I'm still just doing a bit of jogging mixed with my walk once a week (I really need to figure out how to fit it in on weekdays). Today I upped my jogging intervals to 4 minutes each and it was tough, but I did it! I did a 5 minute walking warmup, then alternated 4 minutes jogging with 2 minutes walking for 5 intervals...then I did a 5 minute cooldown. 40 minutes altogether with 20 minutes of jogging mixed in -- woohoo!
My knee pains are gone, thank goodness, so I must've worked through that, at least for now.
Finn, how long did it take you to lose all those pounds? Your stats are inspiring! Did the running make it start to come off faster?
Hi! This thread is so helpful. I started to run/walk about two weeks ago. I love the way I feel after. I am up to running for 5 minutes and walking for 3. I can do a mile in about 15:40. I really hope that one day I can run the entire time. I have lost 6 pounds since I started running.

Hello..
I just found this website and would love to join you. Just a few questions though, I have looked at the cool runnings website a few times, but was just doing something a little different. Today I started back on my treadmill, I am now 221.6 lbs so up a few from having a baby almost 2 yrs ago (I have been off and on diets the whole 2 yrs, not losing a thing, well I lose it but find it a few weeks later and then some when I binge, so hopeing this helps me stop doing that to my body).
I have wanted to be a runner for about the last 4-5 yrs so now is the time for me to learn. Is this ok...today I did a 5 min warm up set at 2.5, then jogged for 1 min at 4.0 then walked 1 min, followed that pattern until the last 3 min which I ended in a jog. My question is to you..is that ok or would it be better to do the 30 sec way of it as on the website that you all are following. I am ok jogging for 1 min and walking for 1 but not sure if that way will condition my body enough for running. Sounds stupid I know...Duh if you can do it then do it..LOL I don't want to hurt myself or burn myself out I guess.
And my other question is..am I to large to be running right now? I'm in my own home and on my own treadmill but just feel weird about it. Has anyone ever known or weighed around what I do and started running and actually took off weight easier? I keep falling off my diets and think if I get into something like this that I've been wanting for a longgg time that maybe that will be my motivation.
I'm glad to hear the person above has lost 6 lbs..good job!
TIA.
Oh I forgot...Is my speed fast enough for right now just starting out? And also do you do it every day or should I just do it every other day and then just plain walk on the treadmill the in between days? Thanks again
just started c25k this week. tomorrow will be w1d3. i tried to do this about a year ago, but i think i pushed myself too hard too fast and really messed up my knees. i'm about 20 lbs heavier this time around, but taking it slow and not giving up! i just read through this thread and i'm feeling really inspired by how far everyone has come!! i'll update after my run tomorrow!
Sure, you can run at your size. Get good shoes (from a specialty running store, and don't worry, they've helped people bigger than you), plus if you need them a running bra that holds everything in place and Body Glide to stop chafing (available at sports stuff stores, like where you'll buy your shoes).
The Cool Running schedule is for every other day, but other conservative schedules have you run more often, up to 5 times a week. Definitely it's a good idea to crosstrain, to do something like walking on the non-run days.
Don't worry about speed now. You've had years to get out of shape, it will take time to get into shape too, you know? Speed will happen if you give yourself a chance and stay with it.
Well I was supposed to complete W9 last week but work got in the way with long stressful days coupled with TOM cramps, so I gave myself a break as I just wasn't into it and did some walking instead. It was probably best for me as I did W9D1 yesterday without much problems at all. As an FYI I'm covering about 4.5k in 30 mins.
Carafre, Congratulations on taking up running. You're doing nicely all you need is some self belief you can do it. I believe you can! Almost in wonderland too :-) Excellent work!
Tia, Welcom! 221lbs isn't too heavy to start at all. If I recall correctly that was around the weight I started C25K at too. I did the timings as per the website and found it fair but do tone it down or customise it as needed. You are the best judge of your needs. You will also know if you are not pushing youself enough. Don't worry about speed right now...I concentrated just on time. Speed will come as you get fitter.

Hmm yes and no, running gave me a kick to get out of a 2-month scale standstill I had at the end of the summer. I'd say I was about 220lbs when I started so I have lost a lot of weight running, note though at the start if you are used to working out a lot you do have to tone down for the first few weeks of C25K - I even had to cut out all cross training as it was affecting my running endurance. But the in the latter weeks (I'd say w5 on) the weight flew off.
I have before pics too..they are @ http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95869

Finn - The pics of you are so inspiring. Congrats to you! Thank-you for the support. I am in love with running now. Two weeks ago I almost had to go up a size in clothes. But since I started running, I am just about to go down a size. I am so excited. 4.5K in 30 Min. is awesome!
HI, I began to power walk about 2 months ago I do it for 35 to 45 min. I have lost a good amount of weight my Dr. said I had to start adding a little jog into my power walking 5 min at a time. I tried this on Mon. and thought I was gonna have a heart attack I cant control my breathing and at times find myself holding my breath I did manage to finish the 5 min but am seriously considering not attempting it again without advice from someone who has more experience in this beginning phase of running....
Please advise me on how I can be a good runner.
