Ivy, I couldn't have ran 5minutes all at once when I first began either. Don't be discouraged or give up. Try doing a C25K program where you slowly increase the running part. I did the one from Cool Running and have already ran two 5ks and presently training for my first 10k in November.

I was exactly where you were 5-6 mos ago, only walking. Now I regret not having started sooner - like 20years ago maybe I love running and just found a Marathon to work towards for this time next year.

Ivy - Don't give up! The Cool Running program works. When I started the 60 seconds weren't easy and now I'm running in my first 5k this weekend. You can do it!

Softballmom - A marathon! Wow! How exciting. Good for you!

Ivy- My advice is to start running s-l-o-w. I jog just barely faster than I walk. But it gets my heart rate up more than the walking. And i really just prefer to run. I am on week 6 and I'm amazed how far I've come with just 3 runs a week. You can totally do it!!!

I did W6D2 today. I need to re-vamp my playlist on my mp3 player. I get distracted when it's a song I don't like, lol. (and then I scroll until I find a "runnable" one) But overall it's going well. 25 minutes on Friday!!

Thanks, guys really appreciate your feedback this past Friday my hubby inspired me kinda like a trainer dose I am very proud of myself thanks to all.
I power walked 35 min then jogged for 10 min slowly then ran hard for about 10 min not straight with jogging intervals of about 3min. My ultimate goal I would love to one day be able to do a triathlon.

will post my running achievements

Thanks to all for encouragement!!!!!!!!

I CAN AND WILL!

Good for you, Ivy!!

Today was W7d1 for me. I did an extra run on Saturday so already had done the 25 minutes on Friday and Saturday. Today was harder for me...was running late so had been awhile since breakfast and probably didn't have quite enough. But I did it! Starting to feel like a "real" runner- just knowing I can run 25 minutes straight! yay!

Wow! Congratulations, Finn! You must feel great -- and that's very inspiring! I'm doing my own version of the C25K program, and I can't wait to get there!

whoo hoo, Finn!!!! So, how did you find the last 3 weeks? Easier and easier? Or does it still "just depend"?

Thanks girls! Its still hard to believe that I can run for 30 minutes!

Jelynn, I found that once I got past the 20minute runs it actually became easier to hold on the the extra minutes. On the down side of that it also became boring on the treadmill when I wasn't counting down minutes and remembering when to walk...but I'm working on that one :-)

Well I went for my first run outside last weekend - It totally kicked my @$$. I hadn't a clue how to pace myself and kept running out of breath. But I still got in the 30 mins...just with quite a bit of walking thrown in. My plans for the next few weeks are to work up to 3 miles and hold steady for a while, then maybe go for 10k :-)
