W7D2 and I managed my 25min run, but only just. I had just had a review of my programme with my fitness instructor and although he didn't have me do any cardio, he gave me a load of new floor exercises which kicked my butt.
I felt guilty for not having done any cardio today so decided to do my run before I came home. Well I'm hoping it was because I was hurting from the new exercises, but today's run was the hardest in a long time, I got indigestion halfway through my run and really struggled for the rest of the time. By the end I was actually feeling sick and didn't know if I would make it.
Since getting home from the gym I've really stiffened up and am so tired, so I guess the new routine took it out of me more than I realised at the time.
I just hope I feel ok to do W7D3 on Thursday.

Okay I decided that I would try this. Printed off the computer, got my stop watch. first day. I wanted to die. I had exercise enduced asthma when I was a kid. Haven't had it in years, because I don't run. I have been coughing, I wanted to die, I didn't make it all the way.

Do you think it would be easier if I wait until I have lost more weight. I know I could definately walk 5 miles right now. But I am not so sure about this running. Any advice? How have others done this. I felt like the biggest fatty out there trying to do this. My dd rode along on her bike and carried some water in her basket for me.

LovingMe-- I swear you are a nut! Going out and doing a hard new set of exercises and then running! And I see you are about to bust through to onederland too! You are doing great, but you really push yourself hard!

losinginillinois-- you should be able to do this. I'm wondering if you didn't start out way too fast. There are people heavier than you who are succeeding with this. Weight should not be an obstacle.

I'm so happy to be back after being sick. I backtracked and did W6D2 tonight-- I should be on W7D1 but I did not want pop right back into a 25 minute run. Tonight the two ten minute runs were very manageable and I even was able to pick up my speed a little. It felt good to be out there again.

Glad you're feeling better, uber. Take it easy until you're fully recovered, won't you?

losinginillinois - go slower. And if you're still struggling, go slower still. It is possible to jog slower than you can walk, I know, I've done it. Slow down, and then when you can do it, speed up. Slowly!

I skipped week 7. I got to 25 minutes last night and decided to just keep going until I finished the block around my house (4km exactly, according to google maps). And it was 28 minutes. Well, 27:59, but what's a second between friends?

So I think I'll just keep doing that. I'd imagine I'll have to find a longer block, because I hope I'm going to get quicker. Maybe I could do 2 laps! Hahahaha! Not yet...

Hey there everyone! Well I did it.. I did W1D1 yesterday during my lunch break at work, and have realized that afte going out and getting that done in north winds and freezing rain there should be no more excuses (barring hurricane force winds..lol) for not going out and doing my run! It felt incredible afterwards... I look forward to doing it again and to getting to know all of you while doing so.. I hope everyone has a great day!

Wow Primm, way to kick butt! That's awesome! En fuegoooooo!

Great start CBC. If you can battle the elements you can totally do this!

And I know how you feel LM... I've been struggling myself and I can't explain why. I wasn't even dong hard exercises prior. Just keep your head up and keep pushing, loads of folks before you have done it, so can you!

So, question ladies. I decided to start adding strength training again since I started, injured myself, and got scared and stopped. I got the 30 Day Shred, and did that on monday after my run. I was pretty sore yesterday, and I'm still fairly sore today. Should I hold off on my run until tomorrow? I'm not sure. I could run if I had to, I just don't know what's best for my body.

I'm not sure, but I'd love to know the answer. I'm always scared to run when I'm sore.

I'm afraid I don't know what to say either.
I was SO sore last night after my new exercises and running on top, I was miserable.
This morning I could barely walk downstairs and considered not going to the gym for my usual step class, but I forced myself and got through it somehow. Tonight however I'm even more sore and I really don't think I'm going to be able to do my run tomorrow. I know athletes say you have to carry on through the pain, but seriously I don't think for a minute that I'm going to be able to manage a 25min run.
I have decided that I will see how I feel tomorrow, but more than likely I'm going to go to the gym and do what bits I can of my usual routine and just do longer on the machines that don't kill me so that I burn the same amount of total calories for the day. Running is going to have to wait because I think if I try and fail I will just beat myself up over it, or if I force myself through it I'm going to end up even worse.
I really wish I knew when this running was going to get any easier though, the 5k I want to do seems so impossible right now and I'm wondering if I'm really cut out for it, or if I'm just dreaming silly dreams.

Wow. I completely understand where you're coming from. Lately, I've been struggling so much to complete my runs. I was asking myself the same question: when will it get easier? I even thought during one of them if I was cut out for a 5k.

And you know what, we are. Both of us are. Anybody is. Take a second to just look at what you've done so far. We went from 1 minute intervals, to running over 20 minutes STRAIGHT. One minute, three minutes, even FIVE minutes of running seems easy now, doesn't it? Shoot, if I had to run for the bus I probably wouldn't even get out of breath, and I bet you wouldn't either! I knew I could do it, but the 8 minutes straight seemed hard. So did the 10. So did the 20. So did the 25. If you can do 10, and 20, and 25, then you can do that 30, and if you can do that, you can push yourself the extra bit to finish your 5K.

It's just hard right now, because it's new. It probably will never be "easy", but that doesn't mean it won't be enjoyable. Just keep with it LM! You've made an enormous amount of progress so far, so don't forget that! I believe in you.

I'm skipping my run today. I don't want to run sore, I'm just going to drag my boyfriend on an hour long walk with me with some weights. 30 day shred AND my run tomorrow. I can't wait till I'm not sore when I do the 30 day shred... I'm already feeling stronger!

Well, I'm happy to report that I had a GREAT 25 minute run today. I'm officially calling it W6D3, since I scooted myself back to W6D2 after skipping a few days because I was sick.

I ran on the treadmill, and s-l-o-w but I did put a 1% incline which supposedly will help if I run outdoors later. I always find treadmill easier, but I just got in my groove and really had no trouble finishing-- and I pumped up the speed to 5.0 for the last minute and STILL didn't feel like I was going to die at the end!

LovingMe-- I really think the problem *may* be that you are just getting yourself exhausted. I know that after my first 25 minute run, I tried running outside the next day, skipping the rest day, and I LITERALLY only completed 3 minutes. I felt like I was going to throw up and faint. Or there are times when I try to lift after running and I can't lift any of the weights I usually do. I think muscle fatigue is a big factor in how well we do on any given day. You have made amazing, awesome, unbelievable progress and I think you'll not just run a 5k but probably do it way faster and better than you expected. You are my workout hero! So don't get discouraged. I'm sure if you picked an UBER SLOW pace like mine you would barely even break out in a sweat!

I just started today. W1D1...I was very nervous and didn't think I could do it, but I'm proud to say I did it! My husband and I are doing the program together. It is great having his support. When we finish the C25K program we are signing up to run some 5ks.

You girls all seriously rock!

With regard to the delayed onset muscle soreness from working out, I had a serious weight session last week, including squats and leg presses. I was so sore the next day I really didn't think I could run. So I decided to go out and just do as much as I could.

At the start it hurt, I won't deny it. But once I warmed up the pain pretty much went, and I was way less sore the next day than I think I would otherwise have been.

Just food for thought. No scientific reason, but my personal experience.

Thank you so much for the motivational rant And for saying you believe in me. I have always had a lot of trouble believing in myself. It has been getting easier during this journey, but it's still so hard at times.
I know you are right, when I first started running I thought I was going to die after just three 1min runs, and now I can do 25mins solid, although it's very hard, and I haven't died yet
I think my problem at the moment is I've got it in my head that I want to run the whole 5k and I've only done 1 run outside so far which was MUCH harder than the treadmill which I always use. My gym instructor said the other day that if you run outside it's about one and a half times the effort than the treadmill, and that really scares me. I do think I could do a 5k on the treadmill given more time to build up my stamina, but it feels like I'll never be able to do one outside. But guess I'll just keep on trying and hope it gets easier. I just don't know whether to sign up for the 5k and accept the fact that I may have to walk a lot of it. I have a problem with setting myself goals and then beating myself up when I don't achieve the exact goal.

Well done on finishing Week 6 Uber, you're doing great.
I think you're probably right about getting myself exhausted. I do my run in the middle of my old workout at the gym so in total I'm exercising for over 90mins on those days, and it's hard.
The amount of exercise I'm doing over a week has meant that the weight is coming off nicely at the moment, so I'm torn as to whether to scale back the exercise to concentrate on the running and risk the weight loss slowing, or keep going as I am and just hope it starts to get easier soon.
Actually, I've just had an idea... The days I don't run, 2 of them anyway, I do a 45min step class. I wonder if I could maybe go into the gym before or after the class and do some of the workout I usually do on the days I run, so I have less work to do on running days. I might give that a try, but for today I just need to get moving a bit and see if I can loosen up some.
And you are NOT slow, 5.0 is much faster than I'm running lol.
