Welcome back, Jo! How was the trip? Where did you run? Details!!

sm, I'm certain you could work up to a marathon with your running base. Take care of those shin splints. Ice them. Make sure you are stretching and build pretibial strength. My dd's trainer (and podiatrist) recommended resisted toe lifts. Take a bucket and fill it with water a bit. Sit down (somewhere high like a counter) and hang the bucket over your instep. Raise and lower your toes. Do a bunch and repeat with the other foot.

I have no idea when the last time I posted my mileage is! But I'm keeping a spreadsheet of daily totals (which really helps for reminding me how often I'm going and what my cume is), and I'm up to 171.5!

midwife - thanks for the adivce, i will try that! i'm so paranoid these shin splints will get worse, i'm almost losing sleep over it :?:

Jackie - thanks for the encouragment! i think i'm gonna register! also, i was talking to someone in one of my classes and he told me he used to have what you have PF (i think it was?). he said he slowly recovered from it and didn't need any injections or anything, and now he's doing the full marathon in 3:05. i thought of you when he was telling me this, anyways you seem to be recovering nicely! how many days are you running now?

So much for taking it easy, tonight I craved running more than chocolate cake so I did another 9.29 miles.

SM177: Thats a motivating story, I hope one day I'll be fully recovered. Lately, I've been so much more positive about dealing with PF. I took last week off completely just to ice and make sure resuming running hadn't caused any damage. This week I've run 25+ miles in 3 days; 17 of them today. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. I'm really trying to get 80 miles in for this month.

7.5 miles today

Midwife -I'm going to try the resisted toe lift. I have a 'Homer' bucket (orange paint bucket from THD), think it is too big?

Cheating....otherwise I have NO CHANCE!

Adding a mile for every hour of overtime this week since I didn't have time to walk...although as a drywall finisher I walk all day long...or run if the boss is there...HA!

135/1000 Miles

Shannon in ATL 03-23-2009 12:02 PM

kitty - how long does it take you to do seven miles?

kittycat40 03-23-2009 12:13 PM

my 6 mile loop takes me (average) 70 minutes now that I've improved my time ;) It used to be 80. I don't know time for sat's run.

Shannon in ATL 03-23-2009 12:25 PM

Thanks! I don't know anyone in person who runs, so I don't have anyone around me to ask! I did seven in 90 minutes on Saturday, I've been working on running more and walking less during my intervals. I'm seeing that the first half goes a lot faster than the second half! :)

JackieRn 03-23-2009 06:06 PM

I did an after work run; 6.62 miles.
