Trish, somehow weigh in day gives us a bump up!!

I didn't cook dinner again today. DH made some French fries and I booked some kale and cauliflower and mixed it together with parmesan cheese. I used to eat my kale with crumbled feta cheese but I forgot to buy it. Parmesan did just as well.

Hello and thank you for the information and the warm welcome. About me: 66, happily divorced almost 13 years now. I have 2 grown kids, Scot is 46 and lives in Maine near the coast, my daughter Kelly is 40 and lives about 30 minutes away with her 4 children. I retired
2 1/2 years ago, I have lots of fun hobbies so I am loving it.

I have only had the blood sugar tested after a 12 hour fast. It has been creeping up year after year and this time it was 106. Given my family history I want to keep an eye on it, especially now that I am on Keto keeping carbs to around 20 grams per day. I ordered a Care Touch from Amazon, complete kit with strips, lancets, etc. Hoping fbs comes back down to under 100. I will test several times during the day after meals, and then do a test after an 18 hour fast. I plan to contact my Dr if I am not coming down. I have been on Keto for about 7 weeks so any stored gylcogen should be gone.

I also tend to do IF as I am not hungry in the morning. Most days I am up at 630am, have my coffee, clean up kitchen, make bed, do some chores, etc, I eat my first meal between 11 and 2, second meal is usually between 4 and 7 depending on when I ate the first one. I drink tons of water and occasionally add lemon or lime juice. Cranberry lime seltzer is something I keep in the house for when I want something different. Some low carb keto ice cream is an occasional after dinner treat.

I just made cheese souffle for dinner, was delicious, I have another one I will heat up tomorrow for my first meal.

I am off to clean up my kitchen.
Have a great day

Ann, it sounds like you are doing great! You are an inspiration.

I am 75, retired, married, with 2 adult step children, 55 and 53, both married. One dog. We spend WAY too much time at the casino, and otherwise stick around home.

I had heart surgery in 2008 at which time they diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes. I have struggled to get my weight down and control my blood sugar since then. My plan is similar to yours but sadly, I don't do nearly as well sticking to it.

I think your FBS has come down already.

Trish, if you and DH are watching the Dallas Cowboys game the temperature is 27 degrees!!

Very poor sleep last night. I will be tired all day. Right now I'm waiting for the coffee to brew. That might help.

Ann I am 78 yrs old and DH and I both are retired. He is a night person and I am more of day person so we get our "me' time when the other one is sleeping. I've been a widow twice and married the love of my life after 1st hubby died when he was divorced. We raised his 2 sons and daughter together. We were married almost 31 yrs when he died and I met DH#3 2 yrs later after his wife of 31 yrs had passed away. The amazing thing when we met, our mates had passed away of health problems 3 months apart in the year 2000, We were on a Christian website together and going through the same feelings during the holidays and that is how we met. He had 2 children and we both have grands. I married him and moved to FL, then to SC after his Mother passed away and then we moved to my hometown in TX to help care for my Daddy until he passed away and here we are just the 2 of us with no kids around except my baby sisters sons and their families. We get together with my sisters and their hubbies from time to time but stay home most of the time since all the pandemic. Used to get out more but have got used to staying home all the time.

I was diagnosed T2 whe 2nd hubby was living and got it under control and had no problem for years. I don’t usually have high FBG until I am over 200 lbs so the goal now is to keep myself under 200. I finally got under 200 last year and I my next goal is to get under 180 but big goal is to at least get down to 150 this year.

Carol Sue Sorry you didn’t sleep well. Hope you can nap and feel better later.

I slept good and got up around 9ish. Weight is up again to 188.8 and FBG was up too which means I need to get back to doing what I know to do. I’ve got FBG in a month and if I don’t get things back to where they should be it will be up. I really wanted to keep my A1c at 4.7 that I had last time, but I’m not sure I can get it this visit. Hoping I for at least a low 5.

I don’t get hungry until after noon and since we around 3, it is too soon to eat so I am going to work at not eat breakfast and just fast until 3. I used to do that a lot when we lived in SC. Things changed a lot when we moved here and I went out for breakfast with Daddy and DS. So will work toward eating 2MAD most days between 3 and 7 for a 4 hr eating window. I still would like to do OMAD at least 2x a week so will shoot for Tuesday and Fridays since I am busy those days. If I can just get into a routine doing it, I will be fine.

Have a good day everybody.

Trish, I would love to do a 4 HR eating window or at most, 6. Lately DH has been cooking breakfast at 10:30-11:00 which is much better than before. Today it was 11 and I'm not eating again until dinner, which is chili, finally. I've been craving it for a while. So today will be around 5 hours as long as I don't eat tonight.

I started taking CoQ10 recently and then I read that it can keep some people awake so today I took it with my brunch. I took it at bedtime yesterday so that might be why I didn't sleep.

We have been posting together for years, but I never recall you saying that DH#2 was the love of your life. You are apparently the type to be married. I didn't think I would ever get married. The love of my life was the one who got away. I see him and his wife at the casino sometimes. We are friends.

My weight has been 190.8, 190.2, 190.6 the past 3 days. Fluctuations. Friday is the one that counts so I hope it goes down at least 1 lb.
_____________________________

The chili was done at 3 pm so I ate in a 4.5 HR window. I "want" to eat more but I'm not hungry and I will be over eating if I eat more. I don't want to throw it away but that's the best way to keep myself from eating more when I don't need it. Its something I need to learn.

Although I probably ate too many starchy carbs, I did stay within the 4 hr eating window maybe even a little under 4 hrs. My fast today was a clean fast with no calorie drinks and lots of water. I had a lot of success doing a 19 to 20 hr fast in the past and hope to make it a normal routine this year. While I would love to have a OMAD 23 hr eating window, I would be just as happy with a 2MAD with a 19 or 20 hr fast.

Carol Sue Glad you were able to do 4.5 hr eating window. Hope you and I both get a good nights sleep tonight.

Good morning,
I am having a good week, but not seeing results on the scale. I did notice that my winter coat fit better and I can wear a black top that I had always loved so there is some progress.

I did a leisurely 22 minutes on the bike yesterday. I discovered I had a new DVD player hooked up to the TV in that room all along. I found a DVD I bought a few years ago, and I don't know why, but it is an old Josh Gates show called Destination Truth. I haven't seen them so it is really fun watching while I pedal. I stopped it yesterday as I didn't want to overdue it, can't wait to get on the bike today and see the rest of the episode.

I am such a carb-aholic that I am amazed at how much different I feel when I am off them for a couple of weeks. I pretty much am never hungry, don't have cravings, and actually feel in control of my eating. i would get icky feeling in my stomach and carbs is what I would crave, have, and go way overboard on them. One bit of high carb food and I just crave more and more.

My glucose meter arrives on Thursday, anxious to do a few tests and track results.

Patty, your 20 hour fast isn't something I think I could do on a regular basis, I do fine with 16 or a bit more and can do it daily but not the 20. One would think with the low carb food plan and that I am staying under 1200 calories a day with IF that I would be losing steady. I am hoping for a big drop one of these morning and I will just keep plugging along, as there really is no other choice.

Ann, welcome to the group! I have just gotten back into posting, though not daily since i'm still working weekends.

I am 49, single(never been married-only minimally regret that), I work as a NICU nurse weekend nights, I have 2 kids adopted from Haiti aged 16 and 18 and I live just south of Atlanta. I was diagnosed prediabetic in 2018, started exercising and made lots of diet changes and lost 65lbs in 9 months but then injured my knee and went off the rails for the next 3 years, gaining it all back. Recently my A1c was up to 8.5 so now fully type 2 diabetic. I'm on 2 meds, meformin and trulicity and I am just getting back into healthy eating and slowly going back to walking. I have a one touch glucometer, though I'm sure the strips are more expensive than the ones from walmart. I got tired of sticking my fingers so I have been using the freestyle libre continuous glucose monitor and I love it. My insurance covers it all so I am glad to be able to use it. Glad to have you here!

Trish, wow, 4 hour eating window? That's impressive, lol. It's funny how we know what works for us but need the reminder to get back on track. You will do well!

Carol, hope you can get better sleep and feel better! That chili sounds good, might make that today. As far as living in a warmer climate, well it's not Chicago but walking outside when it's in the 30's is not something I look forward to. I have long ago lost my cold tolerance so i've been sneaking in walks by looking at the hourly weather forecast and going out at the warmest part of the day. I am determine, lol. I don't think I could have a dog living in a northern state. Don't their paws freeze?

Fatmad, hope your puppy is doing better after surgery. I agree with what you said about shift workers needing adjustments for diet.

While I am going to lean more about it, I am not planning to fully immerse myself in intermittent fasting but for work nights it seems to be the best option. Even in the past, before I ever heard of IF, not eating during my shift or only having one meal earlier worked really well for me. So far it's working again so that's what I plan to continue. We will see. I am still seeing the big loss I always get at the beginning of diet changes so I'm sure it will slow down soon. I am down to 278 this morning for a total of 7.2lb since the beginning of the year. Last night I had some pan fried salmon with a salad and a snack cake my daughter bought me. That last snack wasn't the best idea so I told her that since I'm getting back on track to help me out by not including me in her snack purchases. Both of my kids are very supportive and she gladly agreed. They want me to get healthier too! My son grilled some chicken breast and asked me why I hadn't eaten any yet, lol. That's on the menu for today. I also ordered my Misfits Market box that should be here by Thursday so I will finally have fresh fruits and vegetables, and more salmon, here in the house. My FBS was 96 today which I am very happy about. Now to have breakfast. I need to make another quiche, but maybe I'll have cereal today. I need to eat the cheerios I bought before my daughter eats the whole box.

Still waffling at 190.0 down .6. Ann, we often discuss how slowly weight comes down no matter how well we follow plan. Our bodies don't want to let go of the weight. But just fall off the wagon one day and see how fast we regain! I found a nice leather jacket in my closet that I rarely wore because it was snug. It fits, great now!!

Sleep was good. I was surprised that I didn't nap at all yesterday after not sleeping. DH was watching football all day and it was LOUD in here. I really wanted to eat more chili and it killed me to throw it out but it''s all part of learning not to overeat. I could have kept it to eat today but DH won't eat leftovers and he will want new food today and want me to eat with him. Its better in the garbage than in my belly.

I have been reading lately about Eat Like A Bear. Its a OMAD plan where you mostly eat a "Ridiculously Huge Salad" once a day. Now I am hungry for a big salad. I like romaine but DH does not so I rarely buy it. I also prefer hot food to cold so I eat more cooked vegetables than salad. But right now, as cold as it is outside, I'm craving salad.

Step son tested negative for covid. Flu or sinus infection i guess. That sounds impossible with his son and wife both testing positive. So soon we can exchange Christmas presents.

I looked at the long-term forecast for us and there is only a few days with "snow showers" no major snowfalls through the end of January. Of course they have trouble predicting correctly a few days ahead, let alone a month. But we still have February and March, which can be very snowy!! I really can't wait for spring but would like to be down a size.

HI everyone: i forgot I had already weighed (157) and stepped onto the scale again a few minutes later and it was 158. Not sure which is right. No matter.
I am enjoying my eating day. I made Birchbenders Keto Pancakes today and had 2 of them with some bacon and blue berries. Not even any added sweetener, and thoroughly delicious.
I am making a seafood chowder for supper. I eat some potatoes this way so I won't be low carb. But its something both DH and I enjoy and its extremely cold still at 10 F to you (-11 to me) so I wanted a hearty soup for supper. DH will have his with bread and butter, so I can feel virtuous about not having that.
Buddy is healing well, but we still have to protect the paw when out walking. I also put some vaseline on his paw pads to prevent problems. He doesn't seem to mind the cold, but I like to protect him .I take the stitches out at the end of the week.
He has another check up and will get his shots updated in 2 weeks.
Our neighbour and close friend is covid positive, and he was here a few days earlier. So far we tested negative, but can't get hold of a repeat test. We are both ok though. Nothing worse than our usual feelings of ache and pains, though DH has been more congested than usual, but not even like a mild cold. In some ways though, I wish we had gotten it, got the immune boost with no other side effect. No real way to tell for sure.
And the rapid tests are not all that accurate. If they are positive, its true, but a negative with a rapid test is not accurate, so the negative test I had last week may not be accurate.
But for now we will be back to staying in our bubble, as DH has dental surgery coming up, and must test negative before hand.

Ann: I just turned 60, and retired this year. I still have a part-time administrative job for our benefits program, and DH still works. Overall we are doing fine, but its been a crummy time to retire with being unable to join things and go out and about having fun as I planned to do with retirement.

Have a good day everyone: enjoy.

Weight is up to 189 this morning so I suppose the holiday eating has finally caught up with me. As of today, I am right back where I was on Janurary 1st. Not going to let this keep going so I am back to tracking on MFP. No food off limits but eating sensibly. I am counting calories and keeping fat low but not fat free and focusing on fruits, vegetables, protein and grains. More of an old fashioned balanced diet. Will go back to what I was doing before the holidays of 2 meals and a small snack if needed and just plan to stay within 8:16 IF ratio.

Carol Sue I've heard if you have a healthy immune system that you are less likely to get covid so maybe that is why your step son is not getting it. DH and I take extra Vitamin C, and normal amounts of D and zinc which we heard several doctors say will protect us from the covid plus we had 2 vax shots. Plus trying to eat healthy. I saw on one the Health articles I get from Health mags say lots of fruits and veggies to protect against it.

Ann and Adrienne Y'all are so smart to get this under control now while you are young. Yes you are young to me. In fact I was about 58 yrs old when I started eating like I do to get my FBG under control. Diet and exercise are the keys to success. I went through times I thought I could get it under control and forget and and it came back along with the weight gains. Now I am at the place that I have worked to long and hard to get where I am to not keep working at it. One of the things I have learned is to do what works for me. I tested more than was required by my doctor becaue I read that the only one who can manage your blood sugar is you. So this is my journey. We have learned here on this group that One size does Not fit all. So what I can eat and keep bs down doesn't mean someone else can eat it. DH can eat things I can't eat and it doesn't affect his FBG, but when I eat it, mine goes up and vice versa. It isn't unusual to hear him say to me, "You can eat that but I can't it it". He is finally learning to manage his himself. He can eat nuts, but I can't.

Fatmad Hope you are doing well and staying warm.

Mad, this scale I use now, seems to have a memory. I can get on it several times and its always the same. Maybe it has a time limit. I hope you and DH stay negative.

DH wanted a Big Mac for lunch and they were 2 for $6 so I ate one instead of breakfast. (if he bought 1 it was full price.) I was stuffed! When it came time for dinner I was not hungry so he made his old standby, fried potatoes. I don't know how he can eat them all the time but he doesn't know how I can eat eggs daily. I have been drinking coffee all morning and water all afternoon. If I get hungry I will eat some kale and broccoli. I cooked some chicken for the dog. He gets a treat sometimes. I also roasted some chicken legs and thighs for me so I have some protein on hand. DH won't eat dark meat but I like it.

Today I washed throw rugs. I was afraid to wash my new bath rug. It looked like it would unravel, but it washed up beautifully. Soft and fluffy. So glad.

Trish, I'm sorry you've had a bump up but they never stick around long for you. I think you just retain fluid sometimes as you eat a healthy varied diet. It will be down before you know it.

I managed to stay within 5 hr eating window today. I wasn't really trying to, but it just happened. I ate a homemade WWSF friendly Egg McMuffin for breakfast around noon. We had fried fish for dinner. My calories were less than 1300 and my fast was a clean no calorie fast. Just drinking tea and water tonight. Tomorrow is our grocery shopping day and we have to go to Walmart and the to local store to pick up DH meds. So this will be at least a 23 hr fast.

Fatmad Hope you don't get the virus, but I'm hearing now that natural immunity is long term protection. Our doctor's office isn't giving the boosters right now. We could get it at the pharmacy, but we want to talk to our doctor before getting it. DH said he would just as soon get it and get the natural immunity and forget it. DS said her son has a new variant of it but she can't pronounce the name of it and evidently it is really new as it is one I haven't heard of.

Carol Sue Sounds like your system is getting use to eating just so much and no more each day. I did that before I started eating for the holidays and at this point I wish I hadn't ever started eating off. It is my hope that I can get back to that.

Hi all, 158 this am, so I am assuming the 157 yesterday was the more accurate. Carol, my scale normally has that memory too and doesn't change, so that was really confusing. Its not significant, except I want to know going into fasting again today about my progress. I did well yesterday. I had two of the little clementine oranges for dessert, but otherwise managed to stay off sugar yesterday.
Ann, I am delighted you are managing to keep to keto and are not having sugar cravings. I still have that, and it does get worse no matter what if I am eating a lot of carbs, even if its not sugar-y stuff.
I am also celiac, and avoid a lot of substitute foods like Gluten Free (GF) breads, pizza crusts, pasta etc. But I do have that from time to time. I do LCHF most of the time, but have not been good about it for the last month.

Still frigid here, went to 0 F overnight here.
