DH wanted to go to Texas Roadhouse instead of Applebees. Texas Roadhouse is much better but Applebees is closer. Their food just isn't as good, IMO. The only vegetable choice they have is broccoli. If you don't like broccoli, too bad. No baked potatoes. Just mashed or fries. If you want soup or a salad its extra. Most of their meals have sauces or gravy that I don't like. But their steak is ok. I prefer Texas Roadhouse as long as its a weekday. Weekends are too crowded. I did not eat any rolls. Yay!!

DH nixed the idea of buying a new freezer until this one breaks completely. He defrosted it and hit the motor with a hammer and its running good now. We'll see.

good evening

I managed 25 minutes on the bike, first time I have used it in a week. I have it in a spare room with a day bed. Otis comes in and gets on the bed while I watch a DVD with episodes of Josh Gates Destination Truth. Keeps the time passing quickly. I cooked up my steak and I had some sugar free steak sauce, I don't use it on grilled rib eyes but this was a pan fried cube steak and it just needed a little help

I have been to Applebees but I have never even seen a Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Nearest town is 10 miles and we have the ususal burger, taco, and chicken places, but not much for variety in other chains. Applebees, Chilis, and the Longhorn and that is it. A couple of nicer local places that we like to go to but has been a long time since we have been out to eat.

I have some files to go through tomorrow and documents to shred and others to file. I hate this job, but I will write it on my to do list just so I can cross it up.

Carol Sue, I got a real laugh at your Hubby fixing the freezer hitting it with a hammer. Sounds like something a man would do. It worked so that is the key. I'm surprised the Texas Roadhouse doesn't offer baked potato. I tried to remember if ours does, but I have always got salad and broccoli or steamed veggies that usually are like Normandy vegetables to eat with my steak. We haven't been to Applebee's in ages because they didn't offer anything I liked when I was doing WW.

No beauty shop in the morning because beautician is taking medicine and feels crazy. She said they finally had to put a sign on the door at the beauty shop telling people not to come in if they were sick. She just felt like we needed to stay away. I still need to go to the store but may wait for a warmer day to get out. It is very cold here and wind chill will make it worse. I think I will sleep in tomorrow just because I can.

Trish, Texas Roadhouse has baked potato. Applebees does not. I like the broccoli and carrots at Texas Roadhouse but they also have other vegetables to choose from. Texas Roadhouse is. DHs favorite. Rodneys is my favorite. Rodneys is not a chain. Ann, Texas Roadhouse is similar to Longhorn. We have a lot of restaurants here because we are near the turnpike interchange.

When DH told me he got the freezer running by hitting it with a hammer I thought he hit the top of it but then he said the motor in the back. It was still running when we went to bed. When son in law was younger he had to carry a hammer in his truck. If it would not start he hit the starter with the hammer.

I did get on the scale today and I am up 1.4 lb. Some of this is fluid because I have been eating high carb. I'm not happy, but it is not the end of the world. It is not something I have never done before. It is not 10 lbs. I just need to hop back on the wagon.

I think the way things are these days, people should know not to go out if they are sick. They should not need a,sign.

Do you remember when I could not eat beef a year or so ago? Now I am craving beef all the time. I ate steak yesterday and I'm planning on having it again today at Rodneys. We have not been to Rodneys since before Christmas. Wal-Mart did not have the steaks I like the past 2 times I was there. They are my favorite. I guess everyone else likes them too. I don't know what I will eat on Saturday but I'm cooking the beef roast on Sunday. I don't know why I could not eat it before but I love it now.

Hi all,
chilly here, was 7 below when I got up, wind chill makes it feel like 20 below, we won't be above freezing for the rest of the month.

Carol I am right with you on weight gain. 229.6 this am and I write every bite, consistantly at or below 1200 calories and 20 grams of carbs. I have googled and read everything I can on why the scale doesn't reflect hard work. I am just so frustrated, I won't give up or give in but it makes me realize I need to shake things up.

8 years ago I was on WW and was having the same issues, that was when I discovered intermittant fasting, first week I lost 6 lbs. I have been sort of doing IF as I rarely eat before noon and shut down the kitchen at 6pm. Today I decided to get on the bike and exercise early and before I have eaten, I did 30 minutes, now I am planning to eat breakfast shortly. Going to forego bacon and have eggs with chicken sausage. I will have a salad for lunch and pork chop with asparagus for dinner. I would like to get in some other exercise so either weights or some floor exercises. I would still like to hike out to the game cameras but between the cold and 7 inches of crusty snow, I think it might be a lot more work than I am up to.

Oh, fixed the freezer with a hammer, reminds me of how we used to fix the TV with a slap to the side. I had an old chest freezer that would get 'stuck' on a cycle and I had to unplug for an hour or so and plug it back in.

I am taking a break and drinking water, then I will tackle the chores on my list

Ann, the scale is a very poor indicator of progress. Our bodies don't work the way we think they should. Hormones have a lot to do with it, as well as stress and inflammation. Your body has been fighting a virus. Maybe it feels it needs to hang onto every ounce to do that. Here's one thing I have read. When your fat levels go down, the body fills in that far cell with water until the fat comes back. When it sees that the fat is not coming back it releases that water in a day or so, and you see a whoosh on the scale. Its really hard to accept this when you know you were perfectly on plan. In my case I know I have eaten way more than I should in calories and carbs the past few days. I would have been shocked if the scale didn't go up, and I'm surprised it wasn't more.

If our freezer is not permanently fixed, I have decided to get the bigger one. Its better to have it half empty than to need more room and not have it. Its just taller than the one we have now so it won't take up more room in the basement.

I'm checking in kind of late today. I got up later than usual on Friday and had a nice phone visit with DD. When DH got up, he wanted to go to the store. Now that we have done that today, I don't think we will need to go Tuesday.

I think I am going to order a couple of wigs so that I don't have to go to the beauty shop. I wore them when DH and I first married because it was nice to put it on when we were traveling. I know my beautician would love to work from a building on her little farm and she could do that if I quit. I can always cut my own hair or go to one of local places where you just walk in for a haircut. We don't go anywhere that I have to get my hair done once a week and I could use the money for something else.

Weight was up 2 lbs but not unusual when we have chili. FBG was up to 106 which tells me that I cannot eat nuts so that will be removed from my food list.

Hope everybody is having a good day.

Trish my neighbor across the street gets her hair done every Friday morning, just like you. She must go to someone’s house because she went all through the pandemic when salons were closed. I have been going to Great Clips for years where you just walk in for a hair cut and I think they do perms too. I style my own hair the best I can. I had a couple wigs in the past, years ago.

I got a new tablet and I’m trying to figure out how to use it. My other one isn’t working right. Maybe I should have DH hit it with a hammer.

I know we are all different, but I think nuts are low glacemic and should lower blood sugar, not raise it but it may depend on how many you eat and what kind. I eat walnuts, almonds and Brazil nuts and I only eat a few.

We didn’t go to Rodney’s. DH brought burgers from McDonalds. That was a lot cheaper but I miss Rodney’s. It’s hard to force DH to go there since there’s only a few things he likes there. It is really cold here and I hate to go out. It’s going down to 1 degree tonight, sure hope the furnace keeps up. I don’t know how the freezer is doing. I hope DH is checking it when he goes down there.

I have had a busy and productive day from my early morning bike, scrubbing master bath, and vacuuming bedroom and one of the spare bedrooms. I went through files and shredded a ton, and filed the piles I had sitting on my table.

I was able to get a new primary care Dr set up, they will send me a package to fill out and I can go from there. After some research I decided I wanted a Dr of Osteopathy, it seems to be a whole person approach to medicine and I liked what I read. I found on a female DO and she was taking new patients. I will set up an appointment with her for May to establish my status and see if I like her.

I also sent in paperwork for a grant to build natural habitat here for pollinators and endangered birds. I will be putting in 2 pollinator gardens, one with perennials and the other is an area of about 1500 square feet that I let grow all summer, it has cone flowers, herbs and I will set out annuals that I start from seed there. The bird habitat is to build and put up nest boxes for birds that are in decline in my area. The grant will cover the lumber and I can build them in my workshop. My grandson works for a tree company and has his climbing certificate so he can hang anything I can't. I have always wanted to make things and 2 years ago I started pulling old weathered boards off my barn and making picture frames and other items with it. Lots of fun and gives me something to do in warmer weather. I sell at craft shows and a few items just from word of mouth.

Dinner ended up being an Atkins meal bar, I don't know what is in those things but they must swell up after I eat them because I feel overly full after eating one.
Hoping to see the scale moving in the right direction again, if not tomorrow, it has to happen sooner or later.

I am at 11 below now and supposed to get even colder overnight. BRR

You must be feeling better, Ann, able to do all that cleaning. That's good!

That's quite a project you have lined up for the summer. Time consuming but satisfying.

I'm glad you have a new doctor lined up. I hope she works out for you. My doctor is a DO but I notice no difference. I have gone to him for years. I am not a good patient. I don't listen to much that he says, he is just someone to renew my prescriptions. The doctors I really like are my cardiologists. I have not seen them for a while because of covid. As far as I know things are the same. I do need to have a procedure done but have been putting it off due to covid. I don't want to go to the hospital right now if I can help it. I could have, should have had it done in 2019.

The Atkins bars are probably filling because of the fiber. Whatever works for you, I always say.

I slept a little better last night, didnt wake up as much. The scale is up another .4 lb. 191.8. This is a red flag for me, but I don't know what I'm going to do about it. I don't know why I'm over eating the way I am. No hunger at all which means I'm eating too much too often. I know I'm eating what DH wants. I don't know why I can't be more in control. Or maybe I'm just using this as an excuse for my lack of control. I don't feel good. I feel so much better when I eat light. Eating out is so much better for us because we can each order what we want. Right now I'm craving beef. That's why I want to cook the beef roast. Why is my whole life centered around food?

good morning
we were at 20 below when i got up and took a long time to just hit zero.

Scale finally moved and in the right direction, 227.4 this morning. I will take it over and over again. Carol I do think you made a lot of sense when you mentioned my body has been fighting this virus for 2 weeks. I still have residual cold symptoms but my body feels so much better. I will try to be more patient and just keep on program. Those meal bars have 15 grams of fiber-that explains a lot! They are so filling I could probably eat 3 a day and be always full.

I got my federal taxes done and sent off yesterday as well, so i am looking for things to do.

I need to do a bit more cleaning here, then I need an indoor project. I could knit but that would mean a lot of sitting on the couch and I have been on the couch so long my butt put down roots.

Kitchen cupboards could use deep clean and organize so that is a possibility.

I am running into town to get bird seed and suet. Getting SD cards out of game cameras is still on my mind, I might try to get to the closest 3 this afternoon. It is 15 above now and sunny with no wind.

Ann I think that is great that you have remained so busy during your sickness. Your project plans sound like fun. When I was young, I would have loved to have been able to build things with wood but never had the time. DH#2 and I lived on a farm for a while when he was living. He was always building something. I figure I worked to pay for his hobbies, but they worked to my advantage. We bought an old farm house in the country and we turned part of porch into a bedroom for DD. My washer and dryer was in a breezeway and night I came home from work and he had closed it in and closed it in and made it into a combo storage and utility room. He remodeled the whole kitchen one time. I did do arts and crafts etc. It isn’t work when it is a fun hobby. DH#3 isn’t gifted that way, but is good at keeping things around the house working.

Carol Sue Sorry weight is up. I agree eating out works out better for the two of you. Hope you can figure things out soon.

Weight a week ago was 185 and today is 183.8. I’m thrilled to have a 1.2 lb loss this week. FBG was 97 and I ate nuts last night for a snack so definitely nuts didn’t cause the 106 yesterday. My goal was to lose 4 lbs this month and I have lost 5.2 so far. I’m definitely not a low carb person obviously my body doesn’t like it either because I haven’t been worrying too much about carbs this month. I do lean toward fiber and it is beginning to work out really good for me. I am not having potty issues any more as that has settled down and very regular which has helped with the weight loss although kind of slow.

I read something the other day about how a lot of people are just eating what they called an old fashioned way of healthy eating and losing weight and feeling better. I guess I’ve evolved into one of those people. So no real diet plan per se. I do notice that the fasting hours seems to work themselves out. Example yesterday’s eating window was probably 8ish hrs and I felt like I was eating all the time. Today I haven’t been hungry as of yet and won’t eat until 3ish. I’ll make DH fave chipped beef along with our salad today. Not sure what will be eating the rest of the day if anything. Just taking it one meal and one day at a time. My own version or way of doing IF/Intuitively.

Have a great day everybody and stay warm and healthy.

My roast turned out great! Very tender. And the mushroom soup gravy was to die for. Unfortunately, I got a phone call and DH cleaned up and threw the gravy away. So I have roast leftover but no gravy. I could use other gravy but it wouldn't be as good as the mushroom soup gravy. He cleaned up so he could get on my good side. He has been bugging me to go to the casino so I will probably have to go tomorrow.

Trish, that's wonderful that you are back down to 183. I thought you were retaining fluid and would lose it soon. Hopefully you will inspire me to get back on plan. I think part of my problem is I'm not eating as many vegetables or other fiber. I too have not has potty issues for a while.

I have a friend from high school who moved to Florida but we keep in touch. She is Jewish so I don't send her a Christmas card but I bought a New Year card and sent it to her yesterday. Today she called me. I was shocked thinking the card could not get there in one day. It turns out she didn't get the card yet but we were thinking about each other at the same time. That was spooky.

Carol Sue I think I will always cook my beef roasts with mushroom soup after trying it as I enjoyed it as much as you did when I did it. I figured that if your weather got better that your DH would want to go to casino. Hope it will be a good one.

Today went very well. I had a 5 hr eating window today. Will be going to bed soon.

Trish, he never stopped wanting to go to the casino even after telling me we would not go for 2 weeks. Didn't happen. Thing is, when he tells me these things, I actually believe him, over and over. . Our weather didn't really get better but we didn't get more snow. It is really cold, though. I am concerned about braking down on the highway when its this cold. He never worries about things like that. I always think ahead to what could possibly happen. He won't even wear a warm coat.

I am so disappointed that he threw that gravy out. He won't even try it. He only likes Heinz gravy from a jar. He said it looked like lard. That's what gravy looks like when its cold. Heat it up and its fine. But he was such a doll to clean up and didn't know I wanted it. But why didn't he ask me??

I didn't get on the scale yet. Last night I ate a bowl of cereal and when I woke up I was starving!! This is something I remember from years ago. If I went to bed hungry I was never hungry the next morning. DH always wants breakfast because he eats before bed every night. When I was a kid, I was nauseated every morning and could not eat breakfast. I never knew why. We never ate after dinner. So this morning I just had coffee and the hunger went away. I think my liver dumped glucose and that's why it went away. If I tested, my blood sugar would probably be up. Somewhere I read that we don't need breakfast because our body feeds us every morning.
