Hi all: doing ok, after eating low carb for two days, I was 159 yesterday but back to 157 today after fasting yesterday.
Today we will go to see DD who lives an hour away. The dogs can play in her back yard and then we will take them for a winter hike on some trails near her place.
I am trying to plan my eating today so I can stay low carb and healthy, but not feeling it much.
Although we have different weights, we all seem to be at a bit of a plateau with the scale not budging.
I suspect my body is just sitting at this set point and needs something else to perk it up, will see what I can think of.

Its not as cold as Ann's place here, only went to -9C here overnight, but the rest of the week the nights will be much colder. As long as we dress right, our walks are lovely.
Have a good Sunday everyone

Diet And Liver Dumping - Understanding Type 2 Diabetes

Here is an article I found about liver dumping. It seems to explain that cutting carbs is not necessarily the answer. But I still don't understand what the answer is. It might clear up some questions people had.

I never did get on the scale because I had eaten.

I got out of going to the casino by telling him I'm sick. If he can lie so can I I actually feel like I'm getting a head cold or its my allergies. But I acted like I felt really terrible.

Today is my last day to be 75.

Carol Sue Happy Birthday a day early.I hope you feel better soon and won't be sick on your birthday, Dear friend.

Fatmad Have fun at your DD and hiking. It would be too cold for me, but I suspect I wouldn't feel that way once I got started. Haven't hiked probably since my teens and that was with a church group. No one in my circle of friends were in o it as I got older.

Weight was a little higher but not surprise because of of sodium intake yesterday of the chipped beef. FBG was 94. I really want to work at keeping the FBG low. Not sure how it is happening but will hope to figure it out. Thanks for the link Carol Sue. I copied and printed so DH can read it too. Besides getting the scale to move down for me, I want to keep my BG down and help DH get his back down to normal.

I ordered a wig yesterday and will get it this week. I figured out how much I spend a year on my hair and decided that would pay for my house and car insurance each year. I can go in for a haircut or perm with current beautician until she moves out to her place. Then I either go to the beauty shop here in my little suburb or go over to Super Cuts for just a haircut and if I need a perm, I can do that myself for a lot less. I will wait until I get the new wig to decide for sure that I can still do this like I did 19 yrs ago. I really don't go anywhere any more to warrant paying that much money for a hairdo each week. I just don't think going to the store is worth it.

No football games for us today. DH got up for a while this morning and went back to bed so may turn out to be a very lazy day. Not really in the mood to cook. I took fish out; however, I am not sure what we will eat. I am fasting until dinner again today and hoping this will become my daily routine, but no plans one way or the other since I'm doing this intuitively and rules don't work out too well for me. Heard all my life rules were to be broken and although I don't live by that rule, it seems that a diet is the one place where it does apply. That seems to be a flaw in my character I'm not able to conquer and not really sure why.

Have a blessed Sunday everybody.

Edited to say: Some how I have got grammar corrections on my 3fc site and it corrects my punctuation etc. Not sure how to get it turned off.

thank you for the birthday wishes, Trish.

I took Tylenol and I'm feeling better. Didn't tell DH. My eyes are still watery. It is snowing so its a good thing we didn't go to the casino. The car we take to the casino does not have all wheel drive or snow tires. DH said it wasn't going to snow til tonight but online it said 4 pm. It started at 3. DH drives good in snow but you always have to worry about the other guy. Why take a chance if we can go on a,sunny day.

DH wanted scalloped potatoes for dinner so they are in the oven. I ate some leftover roast but it wasn't good without the gravy. I don't know what I want to do tomorrow for my birthday. I think I might want that salad I had at Bob Evans last week.

Carol Sue: Many Happy Returns of the Day. Hope you enjoy something special to celebrate. If you are still not feeling your best, you can always go later in the week.
I do think low carb is good for regulating blood sugar, but doesn't stop the sugar dump. That will happen over time when the weight is lost and the liver has less stored glucose.
Also when the body is not under stress from too much sugar and insulin, so the liver is not called upon to store more glucose. Metformin also helps, but not everyone tolerates it, or is willing to go on it.

Trish: I hear you. I have kept my hair long because I can't be bothered to style it. I can't stand my hair in my face, and for work I used to braid it or put it in a pony tail. I didn't tolerate hairbands and barrettes etc. I still keep it long and usually do a braid or a messy bun for going out for the same reason. I don't like the upkeep of the cut, going to get it done every few weeks. I may also stop doing my nails if my tech quits and I find something else. My mum used to do home perms with her friends, they would get together for the day or evening and do each other's rollers and then do the perm. I would like to do the same with with nails. Find someone else who likes to keep theirs nice and we do each others'. I may be too bad at it to find a friend to do this with though... LOL

Ann: I am wondering, perhaps you said this elsewhere, but I was just thinking about your plateau. Are you testing urine for ketones? Sometimes people doing keto don't actually eat enough fat and then don't get into ketosis, and they lose weight for a bit but then stall. Oddly, adding more fat to the diet helps break the plateau and a whoosh results. You may be doing things perfectly well, but I did not remember exactly how you were doing keto. I have been checking my urine as I try to break my own plateau (I don't usually do keto, just LC). I did well on Thursday and Friday early in the day, but my curried lamb supper took me out of ketosis. Its good to know that it has that effect. The carbs overall were low, but likely the bit of sugar in the sauce (store bought, not home-made) was a bit much. Today I did fine with eggs and bacon and salad for brunch, and a sandwich on an "Unbun" for supper. Ketostix bright purple.

Off to bed early, the hike was a bit over an hour on uneven terrain, and that was lots for me.
Have a good night friends.

As a real life example, Trish, I remember when you had FBG over 100 consistently. I don't remember how high it was. I also don't remember your weight at that time. But over time you have lost a good bit of weight and now FBG is almost always under 100. It didn't happen quickly but over months, and although you have reduced carbs you never did VLC or got into ketosis for that matter. I'm bringing this up because something else was involved here.

I fell asleep during one of the afternoon playoff games. 2 hour nap from 5 to 7. I spent most of the day under a fleece throw because I was freezing. Either I have warmed up or DH turned the furnace up because I feel warm without the throw and feel better. I don't expect to do anything special for my birthday because my favorite thing is to stay home. Going out is usually something DH wants. But he will think of something he wants to do and say "Lets do this for your birthday." I wonder what that will be! I'm ready with a response.

I have played around with Ketostix from time to time but never got any color.

Just a bit over 157 today after my eating day yesterday. Feeling ok to fast today I think. Checked my FBS at 5.6 today. I agree, Carol, mine came down slowly with weight loss. Its still not ideal, although I was at 4.6 one day last week. I tend to be in the mid 5's most of the time. In my language 100 is 5.6. I am occasionally above that. BUT, important to note, when I check my BS with my meter when I have a blood draw, the meter is consistently above the lab value. So I might be 5.8 on my meter, and 5.0 at the lab. And lab values rule. Meters are expected to be within a 10 percent range of lab values (and mine still is). In hospital, meters are "calibrated" regularly to ensure they stay within range. Most of us do not do this. (I have not since retiring, did it yearly before that and its been fine) In any case, because I know this is a consistent thing, and my A1C has been ok, I don't get worried. I can focus on overall weight loss, health and wellbeing. I do the FBS a couple of times a week usually. My sticks will be expiring soon though, and I am trying extra hard with my liver testing coming up in March,

Ann: interestingly, I have been a little stopped up lately, which is unusual for me. Adding more magnesium to my supplements on eating days. I certainly had plenty of fat in the last 4 days.
Hope you are finding ways to beat your plateau. You have done so well and I hope you are not getting discouraged. I love hearing about you!

Carol: enjoy having your day your way. I wonder if you have a bit of a cold and your feeling cold was part of that, You were not feeling your best yesterday am. Hope it was here and gone and you will feel better now. Getting rest at that point often helps. The few colds I do get, seem to go easier if I take it easy and rest at the beginning. You were wise to just let that happen.

Have a good day everyone.

good morning
2 below here, brrr still
I had a relapse yesterday, was feeling just awful and spent the day in my robe on the couch. A bit better today, but nasty sore throat. I found a small steamer that you put mouth and nose into the cup and breathe in, I set it up and used it last night and will again today. I have a vaporizer in the basement I will go and get today. I have forced hot air heat and in this cold weather it seems to run constantly.

Fatmad-I haven't been testing regularly for ketosis. I think it might have something to do with being sick, my body can only handle so much at one time. I got my booster shot in October and my flu and pneumonia shots 2 weeks after that. Shingles shot end of November. My body has been bombarded with stuff to make anti-bodies for, I started my food program a week after the shingles shot. Going to just keep on doing what I am doing, I am just not a patient person. I did shake things up the other day: eating times and what I was eating, seemed to help. I know I need exercise, can't wait to feel good enough to walk.

I bought a food item called Instant Mashers-says Classic Potato Taste and i decided to try some last night with my steak. 1 cup of water, butter and 1 package of the stuff makes 4 half cup servings. I love potatoes so I was debating on whether or not I could hold myself to half a cup. After one taste, I realized it would be no problem. Maybe smothered in gravy it might have been edible, but it was one of the worst substitutes I have ever found, and I eat Shirataki pasta! Texture was a cross between wood putty and dryer lint, taste was about as good. Threw out the whole pot. I think I paid 8.00 for the package and there is one more pouch in it. Going into the trash this morning.

Carol, Happy Birthday-I hope you spend the day doing what you want.

I don't have much for plans today, going to take it easy, putter around and get a bit of cleaning done. Felt too lousy to get on the bike yesterday so hoping for today to get it done.

I have started feeding the birds. My brother is retired and has been making feeders and he made one for me and painted it to match my house. I am learning a lot of the little birds I have seen but didn't know what they were. I had some pretty birds here with dark pinkish marking, to my surprise they are my state bird-purple finch, but they aren't purple at all. I leave them out at night and I just have to make sure I stop feeding the birds when the bears come out of their dens. I have gotten a lot of bears on my game cameras, I get a female with cubs every year and i got a huge male who was scratching his back on a tree, the camera took 8 pictures in succession. He moved that birch tree all over, at one point he grabbed it and bit into it. We went back out and measured the mark from the ground to where his bottom tooth pierced the bark, it was 7 ft 4 inches, he was a BIG boy.

Ann, I'm sorry you had a relapse. Makes me feel guilty about complaining about my sniffles yesterday. Hope you feel better.

I looked up those Mashers and I would like to try them. They had good reviews online but they could be fake. I buy pouches of instant potatoes when I'm the only one who wants them but they are not low carb.

Its still cold here,, but not as cold as Ann or Mad. We got a couple more inches of snow yesterday and will get more today.

Ann, I could not live where you live. I could not do bears. I am a city girl trying to handle the suburbs. The only reason I don't still live in the city is the crime rate. I can barely handle the ground hogs we get.

Ok so I will get on the scale today. I went to bed hungry last night and slept much better. That might be my problem. I hope the scale has moved at least a smidge.

Trish, 3FatChicks might have done an update that changed things. Lately I have to proof read very carefully because it has started changing my words to something else.

Carol Sue I hope you will be able to do something you want to do for your birthday today. Will you be able to drive so you can have the salad you wanted?
I think my highest A1c was around 8 something when I first met my SC doctor and told him that I thought my bs was back up because DH DBIL had tested my bs and it read 145 after a steak dinner. I learned later that was not that bad for less than an hour after a meal. I was doing WW back then. That is when I started playing around with different diets. Funny how once I started messing around with my diets it went up and down and so did my weight. I never thought about that. However, I don't think it was ever above 8s in the past 15 yrs. I never knew what the original high was some 25 yrs ago when I was first diagnosed. I had a really good doctor who gave me some good advice and I changed my diet and started exercising and was on meds for less than 2 weeks to get it under control and didn't have to take meds again until I gained over 200 lbs. Now that weight is back under 200, bs readings as well as A1c are so much better. I hope now is to keep it like this.

Fatmad Thanks for the info on the meters and correlation to A1c. I think from my readings that my A1c will probably be in the 5s next month because of our holiday eating. I think it was 4.7 last time.

Weight is pretty stable bouncing between 183 and 184. FBG was 108 today probably because I had a very carby meal yesterday. Didn't really feel like cooking so we had soup. I wanted chicken noodle and added some grain pasta to it.

Ann Sorry you have relapsed. Hope you feel better soon. I loved the different birds in SC. The main problem we had them was that I had to stop hanging things on my front porch because the little finches would nest in them. A lady who worked at Lowe's garden department told us that snakes would crawl into the pots and eat the eggs if they nested in any planters I wanted to put out. We had 2 by our front door but never had them nest there.

I am fasting again today. I really want to turn this around and eat my 2 meals earlier in the day rather than later, but I think I will wait until after my doctor's appt. in 3 weeks. I go for lab work on the 7th our dr's appt is on the 16th.

I told DS that I am going to stop going to the beauty shop. She reminded me that the beautician will go up on my haircuts and perms. If she does, I will just go somewhere else or do it myself. In fact, I washed it last night and fixed it this morning and kind of like the way it looks now. I could wear it like this at home and use a wig to go out.

Will cook fish today that I didn't feel like cooking yesterday. I need to get back to making decent healthy meals. I get slack because I get tired of cooking but need to make it more interesting.

Hope everybody has a nice day.
