Mad, we used to get meds at Target pharmacy so shopped there often. Their prices are competitive with the Walmart across the street. Now I switched to Wal-Mart pharmacy since they are in my network. I bought their store brand paper products, bath and facial tissue, paper towels, but I just get them in Wal-Mart now since I'm already there. Wal-Mart stopped selling the fish oil I like so I go to Target for that. Otherwise I wouldn't go there. We bought a TV there. They have very good sale prices. Wal-Mart has good prices but rarely have a sale price, a loss leader. I will see how Target looks next time I need fish oil. They had a huge credit breach a few years ago that scared people away. For as much as people say they don't like Walmart, they are always crowded. Some of them are stopping their open all night policy. I heard some employees complaining that they got switched to daylight and don't like it. Night stock was great. It's hard to shop when they are stocking.

Really tired today. Too much excitement yesterday.

A quick one here. I'm running late as I still need to ride the bike before I head out to beauty shop for perm. A 2pm appointment wouldn't work for me every week because the time gets away from me.

FBG was 119 this morning and weight is the same. Makes me feel good that the pills are working. DH was very agreeable about the way things are working for me. He had left over chili and a salad and I had a wonderful homemade nuked potato fixed the way Wendy's used to make them with cheese and broccoli and onion along with a nice sized salad. The rest of the day I would eat a little something just to take the edge off of any need of something. I really enjoyed having what I've been wanting for ages and nice that it didn't hurt my weight or my bs reading.

Carol Sue Sorry about the bad trip to the casino. Do hope you get to feeling better as the day goes along.

Mad Glad you got to spend some time with your auntie and hope you are able to help your cousin's son. I noticed on the calendar that Monday is y'all's Thanksgiving Day. You have any special plans? I hope it will be a good one for you.

Got to get on that bike now.

I did nothing today. Barely got dressed. No energy at all. No breakfast. DH made some very good egg salad for brunch, then we had my favorite fish for dinner. I think he was trying to make up to me for the bad day yesterday. I think it will be early to bed tonight.

Hope your perm turned out nice, Trish.

fatmad 10-11-2019 06:49 PM

will report on my eating, which is off base but great. The food last night was good, but carb heavy as the main was seafood risotto. DH and I split a salad for appetizer. Everything excellent. But made me glad for my hike today. Then tonight seafood, and I let the server talk me into the lobster carbonara, with gluten free penne pasta. It was also excellent, and again I started with a nice salad. But I am way over carbs for the whole week now. I will need another good hike tomorrow to wear off all these carbs.
Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but it won't be rice or pasta, I guarantee.

Wannabehealthy 10-12-2019 09:48 AM

Mad, I'm glad you enjoyed your food. It's good to have a higher carb day once in a while and I know it's not something you will continue on a regular basis. You worked too hard to get where you are.

I didn't get up til 9 today and blood sugar was 114, so a bit higher than when I get up at 7. It's is still way better than I used to get. I have hunger grumblings and was having them during the night too. Not bad though, just enough to tell me that I'm eating less. Right now I'm only having coffee and won't eat unless DH cooks. He will not let me starve. LOL I'm betting he wants to go out for breakfast. I tossed and turned a lot but when I finally fell asleep I slept good. I feel better than yesterday.

I had some wrist pain overnight so I might have to start taking the gout meds again. It is scored which usually means it can be cut in half. If I have to take it again I might take half to see if it works. I will read online to be sure. It is raining for the first time in several days so the weather might have caused the pain. I don't have it right now.

Today I want to get more clothes ready for Goodwill and get some bills paid.

pattygirl63 10-12-2019 12:06 PM

Mad Glad you are enjoying your food and your hiking. I hiked a few times when I was young and really enjoyed it. I never knew anyone who liked doing it so it never became a thing for me. I often wonder how my weight etc would have gone if I had had different friends with healthier interests.

Carol Sue Sorry about the wrist pain. Hope 1/2 the meds will help.

DH has found some doctors and nutritionists talking about vitamins. Come to find out not only do this diet pills help with my appetite but Vitamin C does too. I always knew Vitamins were good for a lot of things but I'm learning so much more about its benefits. It is a shame that we are told Vitamins are bad for us. Having know the pharmacist turn health food person that I worked for, I know better. I am so blessed to have a husband who is interested in all this. Makes me feel good to know he is really interested in eating healthier.

FBG was 125 and weight up to 215. I'm sure it was all due to the Long John Silvers meal. Plus it was cold and rainy yesterday and I didn't drink enough water. Of course my big problem is that I don't drink enough when I'm going to be away from home. Even at that I've learned that Vitamin C makes me pee a lot which is another benefit and one doctor said to be sure to stay hydrated. I didn't eat that much but DH complained about the sodium in the LJS fish so now that things are cooling down I will have to work harder at getting my water drinking in.

I got up late so I'm running late. Have a lot of phone calls to make this morning so will make this short.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Wannabehealthy 10-12-2019 08:57 PM

Trish, I have never heard that vitamins are bad for us, but just that supplemental vitamins are not absorbed well and are lost in our urine. That's the way I heard it, and that we should get them from food. Unless they are fat soluable vitamins the extra do get excreted in the urine, but its bad to overdo on the fat soluable ones, like vitamin A for one. I would have to google to find out the other fat soluable vitamins. I bought a multi vitamin/mineral but don't always remember to take it. I also take Vit D 5 days a week, and Vitamin B12 when I remember. I keep forgetting to take the zinc, too. LOL I guess they don't do you any good sitting in the bottle. We used to buy oranges and DH and I would split one every day, but he didn't like the ones we were getting and we stopped buying them. I liked having that half orange every day.

I forgot to look online to see if the gout meds can be cut. I think I will take a whole one for a couple days to get it built up in my body before I start to cut them. When we went out today my foot started hurting, so that's a sign, too. I just took Tylenol Arthritis and it took care of the pain, but I sure don't want it to come back. It really feels good to be able to walk without pain after all those months of pain.

pattygirl63 10-13-2019 11:43 AM

Weight up a lb this week but not upset. I have been adjusting to my new plan whatever that is. I'm seeing a lot about plant diet I assume a lot like Dr. Furman's diet. This one guy we're watching right now says it would be good for a person to do vegetarian for about six weeks and then work into eating a moderate amount of meat such as fish, chicken and turkey. I know that is how babysister lost all her weight and then moved into eating paleo/low carb. However, DH and I talked about how we don't want to be vegetarians.

When my Mama died I found a diet book of hers that my doctor who first diagnosed me as diabetic approved of for me to follow. I never really followed it a lot until I married DH and then only hap hazzardly. I always said that if I ever lived a lifestyle where I could do it that I would do a modified version of it. It was called Fit for Life. If I remember correctly the idea of it came from a doctor in Austin, TX years and years ago. You ate only fruit in the morning between hrs 4 am and noon. You ate between hrs noon to 8 pm and fasted from 8 pm till 4 am. You could adjust your hrs to fit your lifestyle. My doctor who approved the diet was oriental and he told me that was how his wife ate. I had seen her since she was one of his nurses and she was a beautiful healthy tiny oriental lady.

The diet plan was vegetarian, but the author said that even if you didn't follow the vegetarian diet that following routine of fruit in the morning and fasting with only an 8 hr eating period would still work. Almost reminds you of the IF plans of today. I'm thinking about giving it a trial.

DH wants pizza today so I think I am going to either making one personal pizza size and me eat 1/4 of it and give the rest to him or cut one in half and make just a half for myself. I'm not really hungry so the main thing is get nutrition.

Hope everybody has a nice Sunday.

Wannabehealthy 10-13-2019 01:38 PM

I don't know what we will eat for dinner. Right now I am not hungry so it's hard for me to think about it. We went to Wal-Mart but I didn't know we were out of potatoes. DH knew but didn't tell me. He will want potatoes. I hope I don't have to go out.

Pipsicle 10-13-2019 02:13 PM

Ticker changing day!

Carol- Hopefully the foot pain was temporary and will stay away.
Trish- I think being a vegetarian would be hard. Also, I've been meaning to mention when we made personal pizzas we'd use tortillas for the crust. It comes out as a crispy thin crust. If I were to do low carb, I think I'd try it with a low carb tortilla.
Mad- Still have my fingers crossed for a Whoosh in your near future. Wish I had helpful suggestions but only have tongue-in-cheek thoughts (asparagus and sauna?) cross my mind. Maybe the change up from being on travel will shake things up.

Also, you mentioned talking to my doctor about my issues and possibly getting a higher dose of thyroid medicine. A higher dose would definitely help me. Unfortunately, I am stuck with what I have. Here in the states, doctors will only use TSH as guide for treatment. If they step outside of that box, they are in danger of losing their license. Clinical symptoms are essentially irrelevant if TSH is in the range. I have known pituitary issues and documented proof via lab results that my TSH doesn't respond appropriately. At one point, my lab value of T4 had dropped by 50% but my TSH had barely changed and was still in the normal range. For reference in a typical person, TSH would have increased exponentially. That doctor proclaimed my lab values were 'perfect'. However, I was barely functioning. All I was doing was working and exercising. After exercise, I would need to nap for 2-3 hours or in some cases came close to passing out. At that point I went through multiple doctors and specialists (endo 1->endo 2->psych/social eval->endo 3->rheumatologist->neurologist->CFS specialist-> endo 3). That merry round didn't include the visit to my primary care doctor who's only recommendation was to go to WW. This recommendation came less than five minutes after I had explained to her WW didn't work for me. Sorry for the rant- definitely still a sore spot for me as I feel like I am on my own (aside from you lovely ladies) to try to manage my lack of energy and weight issue.

However, I do need to go back to my endocrinologist soon to get a refill on my thyroid medicine. I have used up my current dose and have about a one month supply of a slightly lower dose left. Really hoping to get my FBS in the normal range (v.s. pre-diabetic) and to lower my A1c before I have to go back. Plus, get my BP into the normal range. If I get formal diagnoses of diabetes or high BP on my medical record, it will mess up our retirement plans. Insurance premiums will dramatically increase for the period we would need to buy our own coverage. To that end, I had a normal FBS of 97 on Friday but today's FBS was back in the pre-diabetic range. Yesterday, a random BS was 76. I was checking it a few hours after I had a really unhealthy meal (burger, fries, sugared soda and 3 small pieces of candy). I was really surprised to see the 76 and double checked it to make sure. It seems odd that it was that low but maybe I am finally getting things turned around.

My weight looked great this morning. This morning, I was able to confirm the 1.5 pound loss from last week and have a two pound weight loss pending confirmation next week. Can a two pound loss be considered a whoosh? It is a bit strange that I don't feel more excited about it. In fact, I am really nervous this is a false drop and my weight will rebound. I think when I've lost a total of fifteen pounds I will feel convinced I am truly on my way with this process. Last week, I exercised two days at the rec center, walked one day, and skated one day. In addition, I ate below my calorie limit for about half the week. For the other half, I was right at my no-gain calorie cap.

Everything you need to accomplish your goals is already in you. (sorry, couldn't find who to attribute this quote too...)

You are doing very well Pipsicle! Showing losses every week. Getting the exercise in. I don't know what to think of the random blood sugar of 76 after that higher carb meal. It doesn't make sense even for a non diabetic. To know for sure you would have to check at 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr and 4 hr. To see how long it takes your blood sugar to peak and how long to return to normal. Everyone is different. I am slow to peak and slow to recover.

Keep going!!

pattygirl63 10-13-2019 06:02 PM

Pipsicle I understand about the thyroid. I was told years ago that I needed a little thyroid meds and took it in my 20s. For many years I didn't have insurance so didn't go to doc but when I was finally able to go I never could get them to check it. When I finally did get it checked they checked the wrong T cells and say it is okay. So I just gave up. I just heard that spiralina which is an algae is good for thyroid and I used to take blue algae but haven't seen it in years. I am going to get some spiralina next time I go to the store. The HEB over by the beauty shop has a health store section and they will have it. Congratulations on your 2 lb loss. You are learning how to take care of yourself and actually are doing very well. I like having my doctor to check blood work etc and do what he knows to do, but I always try to stay in control of my health.

My morning of fruit went great. At noon I had a helping of nuts. I checked my bs before we had our pizza and bs was 108 which is about what it always runs before our main meal. So no problems. I won't eat anything after 8 pm until I get up tomorrow and have my 1st c of coffee with fruit. The only thing I will eat between now and 8 is veggies. I watched a YouTube info on how to eat and treat circulation. My Daddy has circulation problems and so did my Mama. I have told doctors for years some thing I am experiencing with I think is from poor circulation. I've learned some of the vitamins to help and also learned of foods that help which just gave me the incentive I needed to keep me eating salads and veggies. I'm on the right path to a healthier lifestyle and with just a few adjustments I can make it even better. I have a feeling my Grandmother and her doctor daddy knew a lot of what I am learning. She was a vegetarian and was pretty healthy as long as she had a say so about what to eat etc.

Wannabehealthy 10-13-2019 09:31 PM

Trish, I agree salads and veggies will help. They are filling and have lots of nutrients. This book I'm reading is singing the praises of tea so I had a cup this evening. I use one black tea bag and one green tea bag together. 1/2 packet of sweetener. That will be good now that the weather is cooler. I usually don't think of tea unless I'm sick.

After I'm done with this book I want to read it again. It says some things about fasting that i don't think are right or I just didn't understand. Dr Fung co-wrote the book and he is an expert on fasting. I could have sworn it said that fat burning or maybe it was autophagy did not start until 48 hours after your last meal. I think either of those is impossible.

Did you see the hunters moon? It is huge and bright.

Wannabehealthy 10-14-2019 09:38 AM

I forgot to check BS because I slept until 9. I had really loud growling stomach last night. There are a few times that I feel strong hunger and have to eat something right away. I get a weak feeling. It only takes a couple bites to feel better. But usually it's just a good feeling that tells me I'm not overeating. Most days I don't get any hungry feeling because I am eating when DH wants to eat.. Today I am starting out with that feeling. I want to make lasagna for dinner. We haven't had that for a long time. I'm also getting a yen for home made vegetable soup since the chilly weather is starting. DH likes it but will eat it for lunch, not dinner. He wants a more substantial dinner. I think that is because his Mother made soup every Sunday but also made a full meal. I keep pickle and sauerkraut jars for when I make soup and fill them to give some to step daughter.

pattygirl63 10-14-2019 05:39 PM

I got up late today too Carol Sue and I had to do my hair today since we were going to see Daddy. I've been wearing it just picked out the past 2 days after the perm because my perm lasts longer if I just leave it wet and pick it out instead of setting it. My daughters 2nd husband used to call his mother and me Fifi because he said we looked like poodles with out hair in the Afro look we wore back then. I like it that way because it was easier than having to work at setting it etc. I was able to call Daddy and talk to him the past few mornings and it is nice to catch him when he is more alert that time of day. The next thing I knew my morning was gone, DH was up and ready to go see Daddy.

Weight was back down to 214.4 but FBG was high up to 140 however, it was back down to 114 before dinner. I ate more carbs yesterday and only one meal of protein on my pizza. So I will make sure to eat enough protein today and forward.

I actually found the Lipotrical in liquid form and it has the B12 in the formula so I will switch to that however, I have learned that Amazon actually sells the shots and the needles. I asked DH if he would be willing to give me the shot if I wanted to switch to those. He gave shots to babies when he worked in Neo-natal but I wasn't sure he would want to do it for me. I told him that I needed him to do it because it has to be given in the muscle and I need him to do it so it will be done right. So I'm thinking about that one. I may try the liquid first though.

While I have learned that I do need some carbs (complex) especially fiber, I have also learned that I definitely need protein so I will work at keeping the protein a little higher. I pretty much have my routine/regimen set to become a lifestyle. Moderately low carb with fairly high protein and good set of supplements to work along with them and I do believe that I need to exercise everyday. My goal of exercise may have to be 6 days with 1 day off each week.

One thing I learned about Vitamin C from the biologist/nutritionist. He said not everyone can take Vitamin C at night because it will keep them awake. Thought that might be helpful to others as I never heard that before. He said if you take Vita C and you don't get hungry, it is because Vita C is an appetite suppressant. Interesting, huh?

Carol Sue No I didn't see the hunters moon. We have been having cloudy weather and even got rain the other day which is much needed. Our yard is so thirsty for rain and I do hope we get the rain they say we are going to get this week. I hope you are feeling alright today without pain.
