Carol Sue You did fine because you did stay within a 7 hr eating window so don't beat yourself up. I didn't do a long fast either as I did a 6 hr eating window. I think we both did fine because we are doing so much better than we have in the past. Good night dear friend.

fatmad 09-15-2019 09:33 AM

It was a long and busy day yesterday. I ate well, did my fruit and yogurt for breakfast, earlier than usual since it was a work day for the community.
My own chilli at lunch and a couple of GF hotdogs without a bun. Later I had the tiramisu I made at afternoon tea. That was it for the day.
Enough fat that I didn't miss food the rest of the day. So I am starting the day having fasted 16 hrs already.
Slept well last night.

Will see if I can manage a fast into Tuesday. I have not done a long fast like that for quite a while. Its a good time to try with DH away.
Getting ready to go for a walk. My foot is doing pretty well. Hoping to get to normal amounts of walking this week.

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.
Safe travels Carol

pattygirl63 09-15-2019 01:41 PM

One of my nights when I couldn't sleep so had to take a OTC sleeping pill and finally went to bed at 3ish and slept until almost 11. Never like taking them because I'm groggy most of the day.

I decided to read some more in The Hybrid Diet. I have pretty much decided that I will work more toward Keto or LCHF and just use SCD (Slow Carb Diet) periodically as needed. Mainly because he talks like you can't get into keto on SCD and think that is because SCD is used to run on a very small amount of glucose instead of ketones and you do that by eating small amounts on 3 meals and 3 snacks. I really am not a grazer and don't want to become one. I don't understand why you couldn't fast 16 to 20 hrs on the SLC and get into autophagy, but I will trust what he says and just go more of a keto woe. I can use the SCD as a CAD day when I want to eat starchy carbs.

He talks about using oakcakes to bring down the carb count in your diet and I don't know what they are. I did read on the kindle that it is some kind of recipe that you use oats and water to make it so I will see if I can find a recipe for that and see if they can be substituted for crackers I like with my salads. He says they are so low in sugar and has so much fiber you could eat six of them at one time and still not raise the carb count in the meal. Another little trick he shares is that when you eat a carby meal that you could take glucomannan powder or pills before the meal with a lot of water and it would balance the carbs in the meal. So I will look for some of those to take on days I eat CB or pizza so I can still be on plan.

Another thing he seems to say is that when we drink BPC with MCToil first thing in the morning that in 4 days we will be in keto. I have that keto drink I DS got me that baby sister and BIL drink so I put a big spoon full in my first cup of coffee instead of the cream and drank it hoping that it will throw me into keto in 4 days.

Weight this morning was 214.8 but will see if it sticks and FBG was 111. Very happy with results and happy to know all the good things I am doing for my body with this way of eating. Did I tell you that they think coconut oil protects us from dementia and Alzheimers?

Fatmad I can see why your fasting has helped you so very much. I am finding that the using more fat in my diet is keeping me from being hungry. So glad your foot is healing nicely.

Carol Sue Hang in there dear friend. We have this. I really think what you are doing is helping you a lot.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday and look forward to hearing from those of you who drop in today.

fatmad 09-15-2019 08:33 PM

Had a good walk this morning, and did some yard work as well. So a pretty active day, along with the in house work I did. Also had my foot up for a lot the day, although it is doing fine. I just keep it up so that there will be no swelling or extra soreness. Good so far.
Have fasted past 24 hrs now, so hope to keep it up and do well.
Trish: its a balance fine tuning the fat, you sometimes have trouble eating a lot of fat, but more will make the fasting easier.
Carol and Trish, the 16-18 fasts you are doing do not require any special foods for breaking your fast, having a small light meal is for more than 36 hrs usually, unless you find you get indigestion no matter what you eat on a shorter fast. I have not had any "refeeding" issues no matter how long I have fasted, I think 62 hours is my longest yet. Thats what I am aiming for , eating lunch on Tuesday as my next meal. That sets me up for the rest of the week if successful. If not, I will rejig things if needed. No judgement on myself.
Have a good night. hope to hear from Pipsicle today too.
Ideal Protein Newbie, Jocelyn Marie and anyone else checking in, hellos to you all

Pending loss- confirm next week?

The numbers are looking good this week. If all goes well, I am hoping to confirm a one pound loss next week. The scale was unkind all week until weigh-in day. Usually, it is the opposite (looking good all week and a bump up on weigh-in day). I did not stick to my plan very well last week and had more stress than usual.

I have a lot of work to get done. It has felt more stressful than usual I just wrapped up the bulk of the project but still need to write up a summary. Last week I had to move desks at my work which made it difficult to actually do the work.

On Friday, I went to babysit my niece and nephew. I got to stay overnight with them and take them to soccer in the morning. It is fun but felt stressful too. Especially taking them to soccer. They live a couple of hours away so I don't know the area very well.

This morning my daughter had a Girl Scout event (horseback riding). She was going to quit Girl Scout but has since changed her mind. I did make the decision to step down as leader. However, I went with them today since the new leader needed a second person. Still, it was stressful since I need to get my project wrapped up. In addition, my poor kiddo had significant issues with her allergies at the stable. Her eyes were all watery and itchy. The allergy medicine I gave her made her really sleepy.

Next weekend, my daughter has a booth at the local fair. She wants to sell some of her paintings. There are several things to do for that. Plus, I am worried about how well things will sell. It will be a busy day.

Last week, I went ice skating two days. I have gotten much better at it but desperately need new skates. My current ones are too small and hurt my feet now that I am skating more (up to 3 laps). One of the days, I had the entire rink to myself! I've never skated on a full sheet of groomed ice by myself before!

Hope everyone has a good week!

pattygirl63 09-16-2019 12:47 AM

Pipsicle Sounds like you are doing very well not only with the weight but also the ice skating is so much better. It sounds like you are making progress.

Fatmad You are very good at scheduling your fasting. I think I need to learn how to do that as well.

I ended up doing a 4 hr eating window today with only 2MAD this time. I won't be fast tomorrow since we are going to go see Daddy and go to Walmart and get our flu shots while doing some shopping.

Carol Sue I hope you had a good day.

fatmad 09-16-2019 07:07 AM

Popsicle, I hope you can continue to manage your exercise and eating around the stress. If we only stayed on plan when things were good, we would never lose weight! Learning to manage our eating when things are not so simple is a real key to long term weight control. And the exercise is good for stress.
I no longer turn to food to help with my anxiety and stress, I realize as you say this, so I am managing. I still have anxiety and stress. I found the cognitive-behavioural therapy I did last fall to be helpful in managing that.
I slept well last night, not as long as I would like though.
Today's weight is finally 150. I have not seen these kind of numbers since early June, I realize looking back. I struggled all summer with fasting and maintaining. But it was a fun summer. DH and I seem to be getting past all the negativity of his family and just enjoying our cottage place.
Usually when he is up there without me, its because I am working and busy. This is different with me not at work, and I am having trouble with being centred and on my game. I did things yesterday, but the hours seemed to drag by. We will see how today goes.
I don't have a busy week, and hope to get more walking in. Foot did ok with a good walk yesterday and lots of yard work.

Wannabehealthy 09-16-2019 09:45 AM

Good morning everyone! Sounds like everyone is doing well with eating plans and being active. My only success is keeping blood sugar in a good range and that is a great feat after my past experiences. I am happy about that and looking forward to my next A1c in early December. I am still aiming for below 6. Although I am not eating a lot of carbs I am eating some. I know I will never be in ketosis but feel that my short term fasting is doing something good.

FBG was 87 this am. It spikes after dinner but comes down nicely because that is my last meal. I could say I am doing a form of CAD because I only have carbs at dinner. I am happy with my eating the past few days. I bought eggs at Aldis this week and they are smaller than Walmart eggs, have thicker shells, and don't peel as well. Up until now an egg was an egg, but no more Aldi eggs for me. Why am I so picky with food all of a sudden? It is not making me eat less but I do eat less often. Maybe in time I will eat only the amount my body needs.

Trish, I used to be a grazer for years and I was eating 3 meals a day but also eating constantly in between. It was worst at my last job. I wish I had the money I put in the snack machine. Bags of salty snacks. Candy bars. Several times a day. Then there was popcorn and sandwiches at night. I have stopped all that but I'm not really sure how I did it. It happened gradually. DH made popcorn one night this week and I didn't even know it until I saw it the next day. I think he threw it out. Not sure. I don't see it now. The pretzels I bought went stale. I used to love them. DH isn't buying chips anymore. The only snack food I buy now is almonds which are healthy. And I only eat a few at a time and not every day. The bag lasts for months. I am starting to feel like a normal eater and looking back I realize how out of control I was. I never tracked my food back then but I imagine it was not pretty!! I notice when I'm shopping I pass by so many aisles and don't even go in them anymore. DH still buys cereal and candy but he takes a cart and I take one and we meet at the checkout. He started taking a cart after he broke his hip.

But with all these changes the scale is still stuck. Maybe it will take my body time to catch up.

When I think about it, back when I was grazing and really overeating like that I was at my top weight of 217. It's a wonder it wasn't higher. In my minds eye I was still thin. I didn't accept the number on the scale or the size of my clothes. I am 185 now so that is a 32 lb loss, but it was over 10 years so very gradual. I could not blame my eating on DH because he was not at work so not influencing my eating in any way. But that was when I was eating with him all the time, any time he wanted to eat. He got used to that so that is why he is having such a hard time now. This Am he did not cook and I am not hungry either. He is in the kitchen now so who knows what he's up to.

pattygirl63 09-16-2019 11:51 AM

Good morning everybody,

Not sure what weight is this morning. I weighed and it was 215.8 and then weighed a few minutes later and it has been 216.2 stay there so I guess I'm still stuck at 216.2. FBG was 121 this morning.

Carol Sue I noticed on the low carb website that when I was 68 that my starting weight was 242 lbs. The sad thing is that in 8 years I've only lost about 25 lbs and seem to be stuck where I am. However, I do keep trying.

I ordered the paper back book of The Hybrid Diet. It is more like a Medical Book with so much information of how things work and it is difficult to look things up in the book that I have marked. Plus I think we take the info from that book and make a diet plan for me to lose weight and correct bs as well as work out a plan for DH so that he can correct his bs without losing weight. There is a section in there that tells you how to eat for both. Plus I want DH to read and learn some of this with me. He enjoys learning things medically because of his work in the hospital so it will be easier to do all this if we are doing it together.

I am back to drinking the BPC in the morning to hold me until we eat at 3ish although I do get very tired about the time I have to cook. I need to figure out some one dish foods that I can cook until I get through this induction period although according The Hybrid Diet when you alternate 1 week keto and 3weeks SCD that the flu stages aren't as bad. I think I could take THD and make it into a CAD type diet plan along with IF by eating only 2x a day and get the benefit of both worlds. I really do like the idea of getting into the autophagy period of time as I think it is so important. Since it takes 12 hrs of fasting to just get to that stage, I could fast 16 to 20 hrs and have autophagy working for me.

Going to Walmart and get our flu shots after we leave Daddy today. I will do my bike today and then walking at Walmart should be good exercise for today. I am not tracking on MFP because some days I don't eat 1000 calories so not sure I want to use it. If I do a modified CAD plan, I shouldn't need it. I don't want to stop of McDs or KFC so I have a roast in the crock pot and will make our salads before I leave so we can just come home to a home cooked meal ready to eat.

Hope everybody has a nice day.

Wannabehealthy 09-16-2019 05:29 PM

Trish, 25 lb loss is no small thing! Down is down!! And you are not tegaining, that's the main thing. Right now I think I am eating like a normal person. I ate from noon to 5 and no hunger. I will start to cut back on portions now to get back to losing..

fatmad 09-16-2019 08:31 PM

Well Trish, we could say that it took me 10 years to lose my weight too, but from my high point in February 2018, it only took until September 2018, I have mostly been maintaining since then.
I broke my fast a little after 48 hours, found I was feeling blue. This has happened before with fasting, having emotional downs, and it gets better with food.
I had some chilli left from Saturday so heated some up and enjoyed that. Feeling better already.

All in all a fine day. Hope everyone has a good night

pattygirl63 09-17-2019 12:23 AM

I had a 7 hr eating window today. I drank a Premier shake before we left to go see Daddy and go to Walmart. Had a good visit with Daddy. He was in a good mood because they took them on a Country Drive this morning. Left there and went to Walmart and got our flu shots. Having a bit of a headache tonight but don't know if it is the shot or I'm just tired.

We ate the beef roast when we got home but I didn't think it was very good. In fact, I'm not quite sure I like roast any more. It was just too dry and tough. BS before shake was 109 and before dinner it was 94. DS got results of her A1c today and it was 5.4 so I'm very proud of her. Going to bed soon as I am very tired.

Wannabehealthy 09-17-2019 08:19 AM

Trish, there is a woman who says she puts shakes in the freezer to make a frozen treat.

FBG was 99. I slept good. I had a dream about going to the doctor and one about going to church. I have a list ready for Walmart and today is the senior breakfast buffet but DH is still sleeping. We only have a few eggs and no bacon. I finished off my bread so I will buy my least favorite, wheat. and DH is probably out of bread, too.

I think I am allergic to tomatoes. For years my BIL has told me he gets a rash from tomatoes. We had tons of them from the garden this year. I had a rash on my chest that went away. Now it's on my arm and my chin. I looked it up online and mine looks like the picture on line. The tomatoes are almost gone so I will see if the rash goes away. I was eating them every day. We rarely buy tomatoes because DH doesn't like store bought so this is the only time I eat them.

DH just got up so maybe we will be going.

fatmad 09-17-2019 10:39 AM

Carol: I think lots of people get rashes from strawberries and tomatoes when they come into season and we really feast on them.
Might not happen with occasional exposure, like if you get some pieces in a salad or something.
Any processing may take away the issue. Cooking for sauces, or freezing for later use will usually change the enzymes that cause the rash.
Fortunately its not usually a "true allergy" that is or may become anaphylactic over time.
It probably won't get any worse than it is now.

I had a great dog walk this morning, looking forward to twice daily walking with a dog for the next week.

pattygirl63 09-17-2019 10:58 AM

Weight is up probably from the BPC. Dr. Holford in The Hybrid Diet book says this will happen, I just hope it doesn't keep going up. Then I read an article by Dr. Fung that says don't eat fat or shakes when fasting. So many different theories out there. According to Dr. Fung's article, if you have anything other than water while fasting you don't get into autophagy while others say the opposite. So go figure. I also found an article giving 4 tricks to doing IF and one was fast the number of hours that works for you even if you are one who does only 12 hr fasts. I won't ever do just a 12 hr fast but I have read where some people did lose weight doing it. I read of one woman who said that some times she did short fasts and sometimes she did longer but she lost weight. So just good info.

FBG was 117 this morning so that is good. Still need to do my exercise today. DH wants chipped beef today but not sure I am going to eat it. I'll decide later. I could cook some chicken wings since DH doesn't like them as much as he used too. May fast until 3 today but that isn't written in stone. I will get the paper back The Hybrid Diet today so it will be easier for me to look somethings in it. I haven't ruled out the SCD as of yet.

Have a nice day Everybody.
