Carol Sue I am so sorry you are having the dizziness this morning. I hope you get that straightened out. Hopefully if it is dehydration then drinking some water should help with that. I don't like going to Walmart on the weekend at all because that is when people who work do their shopping. I even hate going to the grocery store I go to on Friday when I leave the beauty shop, but I there and out and it is just easier. I've got to go there today when I leave the beauty shop. We went to their biggest store branch in the area yesterday so I could pay renew my car tags, but I had to go to the bathroom and didn't feel up to hunting things in a huge store. I would rather go today at the one I'm used to and I know where everything is.
fatmad I'm so sorry about your foot bothering you today. You did a lot yesterday so probably just needs a break. You do so well with the fasting. I do well to do my short fasts, but I'm going to work on it. I think I would really enjoy doing the slow carb diet, but I can't find a whole lot on it. I like having some fruit which he allows but everything I see on line is by others who don't allow the fruit. I think he has 2 books on it of which one is a cookbook however, a lot of his recipes and menus in this book is for England and I don't even know what a lot of these foods are that he talks about so I still have to figure it out to fit American menu. I will continue with the LCHF until I figure it out. He actually says to lose weight to do 3 weeks of Slow Carb and 1 week of Keto besides being able to do one or the other. I can see where mixing it up could keep things shook up. Kind of reminds me of Dr. Fung saying you can do OMAD once in a while to shake things up in a stall, but not to do it all the time. Headed out to beauty shop this morning and then to the store. I've been exercising at 20 minutes on the bike a day and I have one more day today to get my last one in this week. I said I was going to start this woe today but it is what I've basically been doing so far. I did change the tracking on MFP to show 65% fat, 20% protein and 15% carbs. Will see if I can do that. My problem is eating that much fat, but will try. One nice thing is that I do like the taste of coconut oil by itself. Not sure about the 15% carbs either since I drink milk and eat some fruit. Trish: since I am not going for ketosis I eat some fruit too. I stick to fresh with no sugar, frozen or canned with no sugar. I wish I could get canned in plain water here.
Its either canned in juice or water with sucralose. I would prefer no sweeteners. so I mostly have frozen when fruits are out of season. But that has continued to be my "sweet treat" when I have them, unsweetened fruit. I refuse to believe that they are not put on this earth for no good reason, and I won't give up something so naturally wonderful. I do eat less, but not with any guilt now. Perhaps it has slowed my weight loss a bit, but I am happy with it. But I do eat a fair amount of fat. It makes me satisfied. Last night I had butter on my veggies and crab topping at the steak house. I actually could not finish the meal, I was so full. You personally seem to have a limit to the percentage of fat you eat, but I would say just add the fat liberally to your diet. Using the half and half to make your yogurt was a great way to do that, (if you don't want to be making it, Greek Gods is 9 or 10%), adding butter or a bit of olive oil to steamed or stir fried veggies is good. Just balance that with not a lot of carbs, but a few. When I was making smoothies, I added frozen avocado piece in to up the fat a little, along with the tasty fruit I added. Hope you find the path that is working for you. I think this is going to be a hard day for other reasons, and if I feel too emotional I will eat, because I do have a little emotional down feeling with fasting at times, so a little self care is good. We are helping a neighbour with some issues, and it may be a hard day that way. In my own way, praying for him to be ok. |
I had coffee and sat watching TV for about an hour and now I'm walking fine. I usually only drink my electrolyte water when I have diarrhea but I think I will drink some at bedtime every night and see if that helps.
All that talk I did about hating to go out for breakfast on Sunday and shopping at Walmart on Sunday, why didn't someone tell me that it isn't Sunday??? LOL I just realized it's Friday. Poor DH. He wanted to go for breakfast. I guess it's too late now. I remember when I went to kindergarten, the teacher told us the day and date every morning and wrote it on the blackboard so we would learn about the days and dates. I think I need someone to do that now. LOL Trish, there was a woman here who did the Slow Carb Diet a few years back. It was based on the book by Tim Farris, called the 4 Hour Body. I read it from the library, but it was so thick I could barely carry it. It had so much technical stuff that I didn't understand and it was very hard to find where he actually talked about the diet. Trish, I went back and read the name of the book you are reading, The Hybrid Diet, and see that it is different from the Slow Carb Diet I'm speaking of. Sorry!! I read a few things about it and see that he's talking about switching between Low Carb one week and Slow Carb the next, and his slow carb does allow fruit. The reason why many of his foods don't sound familiar is because he is in UK and they have a lot of foods that we don't have here, and probably vice versa.

We went to Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner. I didn't like anything about my meal. My friend raves about the fried catfish so I tried it. It was tolerable. The coating was too thick. I like to eat the skin of my baked potato and they had too much salt on it. My carrots were too hard. Then we went to Wal-Mart.

Thanks Fatmad for sharing with me how you eat. I just can't believe fruit is not good for me and I saw in Thy Hybrid Diet from UK he allows the fruit and some complex carbs that the American Slow Carb diet does not. The way he says do this, you don't have to have a cheat day as the American one tells you to do. I don't really like cheat days because it is too hard to get back OP. I appreciate your suggestions.
Carol Sue Sorry your fish wasn't any good. I've never eat anything but steak when we go there. DS wants to go there for her birthday dinner next week. Thank you for the websites. I saw some of those last night as I was looking to see if I could get the name of some slow carb veggies, fruits and complex carbs. I will check to see if there is a book on Amazon that explains it better. May have to get his other book if I can't figure out what he is saying in this book. In this book he talks about a plate with half having veggies and 1/4 having complex carb but never really says it but leaves the impression that the other 1/4 is probably protein. I just started the Part of the book that is about Slow Carb Diet so maybe I just haven't gotten into it enough yet. At this point, I'm just thinking "Do the low carb" I'm doing and forget it. However, since I like drinking milk for my bones and there are other things that I would eat that are good for me that would be a little higher in carbs that he would allow and I still would get the benefits of the keto, I probably would do it if it would work. Although my bs wasn't all that low today before lunch, I think I am going too long between breakfast and meal #2 because I had no energy to cook although I did cook. By the time I checked my bs before eating, it was 104. I was very irritable and all I could do not to get cranky with DH. It has been running below 100 most days lately so I may have to make a change especially on Friday. I did have a Premier shake for breakfast this morning and drank it about an hour earlier than usual so I did have a longer wait between breakfast and lunch today. |

Trish, I never order steak. I don't really like steak that much. I used to get the roasted chicken then they discontinued that. I don't like the chicken critters or pulled pork anymore. It is just my problem of not liking much meat anymore. I don't know what I will order next time we go. I have been burping the taste of that fish all night. Yuk!

151 today after yesterday's fast. Slept better last night. Have not been sleeping so well recently, making me rather irritable.
Today is an eating day. Have been figuring out the next week re fasting and I think I will fast from tonight until Tuesday, for a longer fast, puts on track to eat Tuesday (group supper that day) Thursday, (DH comes home) and Saturday (community party, company overnight) and maybe go back to eating more normally after that. I will also try to stick to LCHF eating except for some fruit. Although having tiramisu today that I made for my friend's birthday. So I don't have to shop today for anything at the market. Tuesday is a take out supper, so I am good for shopping until Thursday. I have not always thought about my shopping/eating in this way. When fasting I often wind up throwing out food as I have over shopped. With DH away, I used up most of the fresh stuff in the fridge before he left and with my cooking on Thursday. There is almost nothing in there. No temptation, no waste. Will see how this goes. Its a busy day, community work day, cleaning up the landscaping here. Carol: I wonder if you have a virus of some sort, affecting appetite and now causing tummy trouble and dizziness. Or if you can check your blood pressure and see if its low when you have these attacks. Trish: I think when I do have carbs, I make sure I enjoy them and they are mostly sensible. Like fruit, which I love, and oatmeal (you know I really like steel cut oats, right? ) or fries when I am out. I stop if they are not good fries. DH had fries with his steak on Thursday night, but they were not great, I had one and didn't bother having more, not good enough to be worth it. I had the wine instead. In any case, Have a great weekend friends, look forward to hearing about the week from our occasional drop ins. |
Good morning. No dizziness this am. I had potty issues after dinner and took Immodium, then drank electrolyte water. I think that helped. The last time I filled Metformin they switched to a different manufacture. Between that and fasting that's when it started. I can't say I lost my appetite. I want to eat. But no meat tastes good. I'm ok with carbs. Bread, potatoes, noodles and especially ice cream. I could eat ice cream daily!! I don't know. I am craving chili. Didn't get to make it yet. I use ground beef in it. And stuffed cabbage rolls. That is almost all meat with just a little rice. I will make that next time ground beef is on sale. I don't think I have a virus. No pain or bloating. Maybe it's IBS-D.

I was reading about D with IF. You are supposed to break your fast with a light meal. But my fasts are short term. I rarely get D after breakfast but after eating a larger meal like dinner. It seems it is very common. I am not eating LC. That's hard to do when you don't like meat. That might make a difference.

FBG 116 this morning and weight 216.2. Stuck there, but will take it. It is a slight loss of .2 lb this week. At least I didn't gain.
I looked on Amazon and found a book that has calories, carbs and GI & GL counts for Atkins, Keto, Dash etc So I bought it for $4.99 I think it was. I read the first 2 chapters and I found it interesting that while most LC diets says you can subtract the fiber and the sugar-alcohols from the carb cant to get the net, this book says that some sugar-alcohol can raise insulin so they say you can only subtract 50% of the sugar-alcohols. I found that to be quite interesting. So when a person eats Atkins' bars or some other protein bar that has sugar-alcohol it actually has more net carbs than what they count on the product. I bought the book so I can start tracking on paper myself and get a more accurate carb count each day. Fatmad This does stress eating lower GL & GI carbs. I think the book I have on Low Carb for Dummies must use this concept although it also calls for low fat dairy etc which we now know is not unhealthy for us. I have gotten to where I don't eat as much of the foods I used to like and like you, I eat some of DH fries which I do love from McDs so that I get the taste but not so much of the carbs. You are good at having your plan ahead to include the fun time you are going to be doing too. Great job girl. You are going to get under that 150 mark any day now. Carol Sue So glad the dizziness is gone. I have to watch and be sure I drink enough water and I also keep the Zero Powerade on hand to drink a little whenever I think I need too. It has definitely helped me. If you are losing taste for most meats, maybe you could just have the meets you want and eat more of a plant based diet plan since you do like a lot of veggies. Just a thought. Talked to Daddy a few minutes this morning. I told him the activity today is going out for a Hamburger and then they were having ice cream too. This afternoon is a gospel music quartet coming and I know he will enjoy that although it is also time for him to watch football. Any way I told him that I wouldn't correct him in the meeting, but that I know that he hasn't been going when they planned going out to eat etc and for him to go today. He said that he would. I hope he does. It is helpful that I know have a copy of the monthly calendar so I can remind him of these things as I think he forgets about them or falls asleep and misses going. So far today I have had a cup of BPC so I can get the fat into my diet. I haven't had anything to eat yet. We had liver and onions yesterday for lunch and I kind of over did it and the meal was very bloaty, but it didn't take to long for it to pass and I was so satisfied that I never ate anything else so I may try to just with until 3ish to eat to get in a 23 hr fast done. Not sure if I will do the Slow Carb Diet or LCHF. Maybe I'll just mix it up so many good things either way. I will see what the 2 books say and decide from there. It is nice to know there is a healthy way to do the SCD because I seem to need some complex carbs and I do miss oatmeal and I like both steel cut and old fashioned. It would be nice to be able to eat healthy carbs such as some complex and fruit along with the veggies. More variety and still lose weight. Y'all have a nice Saturday everybody. |
Ended up with a 23+ long fast and bs reading before we ate was 97.
I finished reading the GI, GL counter book and got loads of info. I've gone back to finish reading the other book now. I finally got to the section about the foods to eat and woe the Slow Carb Diet is 1/2 plate is to be low glycemic load veggies and fruit. If eating a complex carb it is to be 1/4 of the plate and the other 1/4 is protein. I really think I could eat this way along with IF. The only difference I would do from what I have seen glancing through the book is that I prefer to alternate days of OMAD AND 2MAD. I don't want to eat 3 meals and snacks. We had chili and we like crackers with it so to make it SCD friendly we had a salad and a serving of cantaloupe to make up the plate equal to 1/2 veggie and fruit and then the chili with crackers made up the other half. Very satisfying and I may not need anything else to eat today either. It would be nice if I could go another 23 hrs before eating anything else to give me 2 days of OMAD. |
Doing good, Trish! I am so tired. We were out all day. I ate around noon and was going to fast the rest of the day but I got really hungry and felt shaky. I think if I was home I could just sit down but DH decided to stop for hotdogs so I ate half a hot dog and some fries around 7. Late for me to eat but I will be home tomorrow and can fast if I want to.
