Wannabe: There’s about 20-25 grams of protein in a 4 oz chicken breast. |
Carol: because we use the metric system here, all the nutritional info on our food packaging is in grams, so grams of protein is easy.
I find it easy with the 2MAD, its hard to overeat on the protein level. For my dairy meal, my serving of cheese or yogurt is my protein serving, and for my meat meal, I do about 4 oz of meat. I think I get about 50-60 g of protein that way. Slept well at home Sunday night, and woke up feeling fine, but during the day my mid back started to hurt, like a pulled muscle. Doing better this am, but did not sleep well. I will try to nap after a walk this morning, I have a teleconference in the afternoon. Hope to go to my music sing around tonight, so need the rest. When I still mobile yesterday, I picked up stuff for a stir fry and some seafood, and DD did the cooking and made Pad Thai for supper. I used the konjac noodles, she and DH had the rice noodles. We were all happy with supper. I did have a little dark chocolate for dessert. Otherwise stuck to plan This am weight is 155. So a few pounds to lose. I am not planning to fast today though, but we will see when lunch time rolls around. Trish: I am sorry your Dad is behaving this way. My mother's anger and negativity was the worst part of her dementia. Its easy to say "don't take it personally" and "its the disease, not the person talking" but not reacting or managing the feelings about it is really hard. I was not always successful, except in retrospect. I hope it settles again soon. Try to stay positive, especially when speaking with him. I did find I could diffuse my mother's anger and negativity by being pleasant and positive. It made it hard for her to keep up with the anger. I just said kind, loving things, reminded her I loved her, and how much she was loved by others. It didn't always work, but helped me too. Getting ready for other DD convocation coming this weekend. Have a good day everyone |
Thanks for stopping by Ideal Protein Newby. And thanks for the information on grams of protein.
Mad, I don't eat much packaged foods so the fresh meats and veggies I buy does not have a nutrition label. I really need to educate myself on the metric system. It is so much easier to learn these things when we are young. My main protein is the eggs I eat most days, 2-3. Then I have some meat with dinner, 4 oz or so plus protein in any cheese I eat or smaller amounts in vegetables. I don't know much about plant based protein and don't usually think of protein in vegetables. I used to eat a lot more meat but don't think I am getting too much protein now. All in all I eat less food than I did in the past. I used to eat to capacity and rarely did any fasting. I have not had any crashing weight loss but I guess it is enough of a difference to allow very gradual loss over years. The first 20 lbs was significant getting me out of The 200s but I bounced in and out for ages. Now, although I am no where near where I should be, I haven't gone near 200 in a very long time. So I guess I have been successful. Just think where I could be if I stayed on plan daily. The book mentioned loss of muscle in aging and difficulty getting out of a chair. I have that sometimes and find myself analyzing seating when I enter a room to choose the best place to sit. Leg exercises would help with that. I also have problems when I go for some tests. After its over they say "You can get up now " and I'm thinking "No I can't!" Getting up from lying flat is also tough for me. And I can just forget about getting down on the floor! ! So many things we take for granted when we are young. FBG was 105 this am. I'm Ok with that. Today I have to go to Walmart. Also order my Cpap supplies. I called once and left a message but no one called me back. Hope I don't have a problem with that. My headgear is getting worn and doesn't fit well. I am only wearing it half the night now. I can fall asleep without it then put it on when I wake up in the middle of the night. I don't think they are continuing to monitor my usage now that the machine is paid for. Insurance won't pay for it unless you are using it on a regular basis. So I really need to talk to them to find out why they never returned my call. And I have to schedule the dog's winter hair cut. |
Weight is stuck at 213.4 and FBG is 102 so no complaints there. Woke up early with indigestion and just got up. I know this is just nerves with all that is going on. It will pass. I've just got to settle down and not let all this stuff with Daddy get to me.
Mad Thanks for sharing with me about your experience with your Mother. I just hate that he is being so hateful with the people at the nursing home. He feels like he is being treated like a child but they can't have him throwing fits out in public. I'm sorry you have a pulled muscle and hope it gets better soon. Carol Sue I don't do good with the metric system either. They should have taught us both when we were younger. I have heard that we don't need as much protein as Americans eat and I have probably had enough in my lifetime not to eat any more. LOL DH #2 had to have meat at every meal. I was raised that beans were your protein. The first time I made beans for our supper, he was upset because I had no meat on the table. They had meat at every meal when he was growing up he expected it. DH picked up some pretty steaks yesterday at Sam's and I think I can cook one and we can share it so that is what we will have today. Have a great day everybody. |
I grew up with very little meat. A small amount would be mixed in a casserole for 5 people. Lots of carbs, though! DH can go without meat but not potatoes. They are a daily staple for him. If I don't serve them for dinner he makes French fries or baked.
We went to the senior breakfast. I only had one serving. Eggs, bacon, corned beef hash and grapefruit sections. I was commenting to DH how many things on the buffet I don't eat. Lots of rain today. I wanted to make vegetable soup but they were out of celery and didn't have the barley I wanted. Maybe tomorrow. |
Slept better overnight. I did OMAD last night, maybe I will fast today. Need to get back to my happy place.
Funny how a fun trip can leave you feeling so out of sorts. But feeling a bit better now. Have a good day friends. |

for those who take blood pressure medications: interesting. eh? |
Hmmm. I will ask my doctor about this. I take a few BP meds. There was one I used to take at bedtime because it made me tired. Dr said that was ok. In the hospitality they gave them to me all together in the am so I do that now.
I have not been sleeping well so I'm sleeping later. Til 9 today. I prefer to get up before DH for some quiet time. Today he had the TV blaring by the time I got up. He has to have the TV or radio on at allntimes, even when sleeping. Terrible habit IMO. |
Busy morning making yogurt and put a small crockpot of spaghetti sausce for our lunch today. I've been wanting spaghetti for a while so decided to make it today. It takes so long to make the yogurt because it take so long to heat the milk on stove top so I decided to heat the milk in the microwave. It is now in the jars and making. If it works it will really cut the time down for me making it. In fact, it is easier to skim the stuff off top of it when microwaved and looks prettier.
FBG was 134 but I know that is because of the snack of PB and crackers last night, but weight was down to 212 even. so that part is good. Not sure why I was hungry last night, but I'm slowly moving from the night eating. So hopefully that was a one time thing last night. |
Good for you on 212 on the scale. This is working.
I made vegetable soup today. It turned out good. We both had 2 bowls around 3 but DH will eat somethings later. I will try not to. When I first started making this soup I bought 5 different brands of mixed vegetables, some brand name and some store brand. Wal-Mart Great Value canned mixed vegetables won the comparison. Some had more carrots and green beans but very little corn and peas, no limas. GV brand has an even content of all veggies. I even tried making it with frozen veggies but DH prefers the canned and so do i. I add chopped cabbage and onion. I put a couple ribs of celery in while it simmers then chop it up after it softens. I add a can of diced tomatoes including the juice. A peeled and cubed potato. Today I peeled and cubed a rutabaga too. Don't know if I will do that again. I don't put meat in it. A big beef bone and bullion cubes. Good chilly day for it today. Today I was reading about the difference between animal protein and plant protein. Animal protein adds more acidity to the body and contributes to more cancer and cardiovascular disease. I know that many low carbers will say that has been disproven. I don't know. That's what it says in the book. It recommends dividing your protein sources between animal and plant for longevity. Plant protein is lower calorie and more filling. It also said it is helpful for the elderly to add whey protein. |
Trish: I am not heating the milk for my yoghurt maker. I use a new container of cream, let is sit to room temperature and then mix in the started and put it into the containers. Very simple. The instructions stated the heating of the milk to destroy an germs or yeasts from the air after the milk or cream is opened. They said if using a fresh unopened container of milk or cream, it was not necessary to heat it.
I have also done it with cream that is cold and just give it a couple of extra hours. SO far so good. Its yummy and cheaper than buying the higher fat yoghurt at the store. But I will have to make another trip to costco for the cream soon. It is MUCH cheaper there than anywhere else. So its worth the trip. I have fasted all day, so I will make yogurt tonight to have tomorrow for breakfast. |
Mad Thanks for sharing that. I will try that. I need to get another quart of 1/2 and 1/2 when I go to the store Friday. It sure would be nice to be able to make it that way since I need to make 2 batches a week so DH and I can both have one serving a day.
BTW thanks for the info on the BP meds. Carol Sue The Veggie soup sounds really good. I wish I could get DH to eat homemade soup. |
Soup is sounding good to me as well. I will go to the market this morning and get some meat and veggies, and maybe fruits for a fruit basket for a friend who just had knee surgery. I still have cream so no need to go to costco for that yet.
Start work for the weekend as of tonight. Its been busy for everyone, so they are glad to have someone fresh. I expect to be busy, unlike the last time I worked a weekend at the beginning of the month. Got to sleep ok, but woke up too early again. 5 am is just too early after getting to sleep about 1130. I lay in bed for another hour trying to get back to sleep. I have been doing better with having no clock by the bed or checking phones etc for time. But today I just could not get back to sleep. So weight is down a pound to below 154 today after my day of fasting yesterday. Hope to stay relatively LCHF today and do my 2MAD with enough fat that I can do a fast on Friday before DD big convocation day. I think DH and I will give her a reading week holiday for her gift. Since she is still in school, I think she would like a little break then. We will check with her this weekend and book asap as that time does get booked up. I did get out for a walk and a yoga class yesterday. Otherwise things are good, but having some digestive issues that are making wonder if I got glutened somehow. I am going to go on my celiac support group and see if others get similar symptoms. Have a good Thursday friends. |
Ha Ha, I went back and made some corrections to my last post. It makes more sense now. My Kindle is my favorite way to post, sitting in my recliner, but it is easy to make typos that I don't always catch and autocorrect has a very wild imagination!
The yogurt process sounds very easy, Mad. I'm sorry to hear you have had some digestive issues. I hope they pass and all is well. Trish, the only home made soups DH will eat is vegetable and chicken noodle. I don't make chicken noodle very often. There are several others I would like to make, like cream of cauliflower, cream of broccoli, but I would be the only one eating them and there would be too much leftover. As it is I have 4 pickle jars I filled with vegetable soup. If step-daughter doesn't take some I know some will be dumped out. He usually won't eat it after the first day when it's fresh. He does not believe that foods are better the second day. He thinks that's a trick to get him to eat leftovers. I hope your yogurt turns out good. |
Mad I woke up this morning and decided to take the rest of the 1/2 and 1/2 I opened yesterday and add some heavy cream I had to it and make another batch of yogurt the way you said you make yours. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. It usually takes 8 hrs to make so it will be interesting to see how long it takes to set and how good it turns out. It will make it so much easier to make 2 batches a week.
Carol Sue I didn't even noticed the mistakes in your previous post. I guess we just get used to reading each others stuff. LOL It is supposed to rain today and then cold weather is supposed to move in for tomorrow. It will definitely be a day for chili tomorrow. Weight was up this morning but might not be since I weighed a lot earlier. Not going to worry however, I've got to stop eating at night. Not sure what that is about lately. I am going to try to get more organized with my food. I slept really good but I have been waking up earlier than usual. I wake up with day light and we have time change in another week so I hope it will all even out. I'm not going to bed any earlier so I'm not sure why I'm waking up earlier. Maybe I'm just beginning to feel better after feeling so bad for a while. I decided that my stomach problems there for a while was because I was taking those pills on an empty stomach. I could do that for a while, but I guess that is why people warned on Amazon not to take on an empty stomach. Y'all have a great day. |
