Trish, I feel you are investigating these products and are making the right decision for you. I know you will stop it you have adverse effects or don't lose. Your DH will watch out for your best interests. I know I have to avoid these types of things because of my heart and all the meds I take. I have to do this on my own. I have to go back to the old way that worked for me in the past.
|
Carol Sue I am only concerned about 1 thing in the one I ordered that I don't think is in the shots if the shots are exactly the same as what the GA doctor uses. If it causes my a stomach problem, I can't take them but I pray that it won't. Actually according to WebMD it could actually improve my digestive system.
I think DH was concerned about me taking the pills because I had read they don't work as fast or as good as the shots, but it looks like Medicare is going up and the meds he pays $2 for are going to be $4 next year. I've got to read up on all this. I just can't add $60 a month to what we already spend. I only pay $2 for my one pill although I think it costs me $10 for 3 mos so I don't know what it will cost next year. It is just better if I can do this on my own with these pills from Amazon. He just doesn't want me to be disappointed. I actually set things up on MFP and lowered the calories to 1400 and adjusted the carbs, protein and fat so that my carbs are no more than 80 a day. I really want to make them less and I think I can do that and not eat loads of fat either. Amazon only said I would get the product some time between October 2 and 9th so I will work at getting a really good diet and exercise plan going while I'm waiting and of course I have the B12 I've been taking for a while already. |
Trish I don't want you to be disappointed either but I also don't want you to get side effects. I think you should go into this with the realization that it might or might not work. The shots might not have worked either. You don't know until you try. I want you to find something that works because I can feel that you are getting discouraged. I don't want you to feel defeated and give up. You have lost a good bit of weight since I've known you and are very healthy for a senior citizen. You only take 1 med and don't have any serious health problems. You keep your blood sugar under control and exercise, eat healthy. So really, you are in a good place. Always remember that!
|
Carol Sue Thank you sweet friend. I am excited about the diet alone. I ate more for breakfast than I wanted and would not have eaten that much if I had tracked it on MFP. Even with that, my calories at the en of today were 1218 and net carbs were 47. I'm didn't do formal exercise today but very busy. I know they said the diet and exercise are very necessary to make this work. I also like the idea of the choline that helps remove fat from the liver and gall bladder. If it works it works. If I can keep my calories and carbs low eating like I did today maybe things will start working without the pills. My doctor said he wasn't sure how much these places really worked because that the people who went were ready to do what they needed to do to lose weight. He might be right.
I will be careful and also go into this knowing it can go either way. Thanks for your concern. |
Weight 152 this am after my 2MAD yesterday. So today is a fasting day. I will try to nap later, slept very poorly last night. Just about 3 hours, then finally got to sleep about 6 am again, and got a call just after 7 on the landline. It rings so seldom and we were disoriented. there was an automated voice saying our credit card had been used.
Sounds just like the voice were get for other automated calls. We both called and checked our cards, but no unauthorized activity. We think maybe it was a scam call that we were supposed to give info, but we were to disoriented to listen. I checked my FBS yesterday and today and it was elevated at 5.8 yesterday and 6.0 today, but the strips are expired. I am going to get new strips and do a bit of testing. Carol: I am concerned that the thirst is a sign of high blood sugars. Remember thirst is a sign of diabetes in general. I hope things are ok. You test frequently, so I would be surprised if things are not in control. Hope the B12 works for you Trish. Have a good day everyone |
Trish, I know what you're saying about the people going to the center being ready to do it. You have to want it bad enough to do what needs to be done. If you have money invested you don't want it to be a waste. I'm surprised your doctor didn't tell you not to do it. But maybe he knew you were healthy enough for it.
FBG was 105 and wt was down a lb to 186. I thought it would be down because last night when I went to bed I was hungry, but I was so comfy and too tired to get out of bed and come out and get something. That's a first. According to my Fitbit I have slept 7 hrs the past few nights. They give you a rating and mine is 80. I guess I have to sleep for 8 hours to get 100. |
I am so excited this morning about my decision not to take the shots. My starting weight for this month is 215 so I actually lost 1.8 lbs last month. Not much but it is a weight loss. I honestly believe that the pills by themselves will work. I saw a couple of people say they could not take the full 6 pills a day dosage so to be sure and test it. They were taking 2 in the morning with their 1st meal and 2 with another meal later. I'm actually working myself back into a lower carb WOE and most of my exercise right now is house work. I noticed this morning that I need to scrub down my kitchen cabinets. It is strange what you can see to do when you feel like doing it. I will have to get on the bike today because my back is talking to me this morning. I either slept wrong or I've gone too long with out doing it. And it could just be all the twisting and turning is working back muscles that I don't usually work.
Made myself a taquito this morning for breakfast. The tortilla is only 8 carbs, but net carb is 4 because of the fiber. I used one egg and 1/s slice of cheddar cheese from Sam's and 1/2 slice Canadian bacon. With my coffee the whole thing came to 250 calories and 6 g gross carbs. Main meal today will be grilled codfish and veggies. I'm not eating as much protein as I probably should but I do have some throughout the day. I think the big difference is that I am spreading the calories out since not doing CAD any more. I'm not overloading my stomach at any one time. I am only eating if I'm really hungry. I wasn't going to have a snack last night because I had such a large breakfast yesterday, but I got so hungry around 9:30 or so and finally around 11 o'clock I caved and ate a small one. Calories ended up just within the 1400 at 1394. That may be figured high anyway because sometimes I don't eat as much as I count on MFP so I don't worry. Net carbs ended up being 65 so I was under 70. So I ended up with a 12 hr eating window since I usually don't eat breakfast until 11 am. I will try to plan differently today. FBG was 127, but that was due to the late snack so no problem as long as I know why and the scale is moving downward. That taquito will become my regular breakfast since I loved them at Whataburger when we used to go eat breakfast with Daddy. Now that I figured out how to lower the calories and carbs and they are my favorite breakfast why do anything else. I really think this way of eating is pretty much the way I ate when I started losing before. I'm so thankful I've finally found my way back to it. Makes me feel so good. Carol Sue Actually my doctor told me to find out where the center was and he would check it out for me. I still might end up trying it although DS is wanting to eventually switch to the pills if they work for me. However, I hope she will continue doing what she is doing at least until she gets down maybe to where I am now and then switch. However, I wouldn't be surprised if her primary doctor doesn't figure out a way of doing these himself when she gives him the paperwork I found on what the shots are. He is the one who sent her there. DH was a little upset that I had canceled my appointment. But I explained to him what is going on with Medicare and told him that I just can't see spending the money for the shots if these pills will work. It is worth a try. It appears that your FBG is really doing good. I know you want to get off the G but maybe you need it for now. Your weight coming down is good too. I think the more you have control of what you eat the better. DH has got to where he trusts me to do what I know is good for me. He know longer says "that won't hurt you", I think it is because he has learned he can't do certain things either. Mad I hope you get some rest today. I hate those nights when I can't sleep until early in the morning and they always seem to happen the night before I have an appointment the next day. We get strange calls on our land phone too. There are a lot of scams out there. There is one we get that tells us we are going to lose our Microsoft account if we don't call them. #1 we don't have a Microsoft account and #2 they don't call people and I've seen on tv where they warn people of those things and not to return the calls. Just heard on tv yesterday of a new one where they send letters claiming to be IRS that you owe them money. They say the letters look so real that people think it is really from IRS but they warned people not to fall for it. There are some real sickos out there. Well, I need to do the bike today so I think I will call my daughter and talk to her while I get my 20 minutes in. I also want to clean those cabinets and mop the floor. Exercise here I come. Hope everybody has a great day. |
DS saw the doctor at the Bariatric center this morning and showed her the info on the pills I'm going to be taking and asked her about it. She said it will work, but it won't work as fast as the shot because the shot goes right into your system. She told DS that she is looking forward to seeing how well I do on it. I told DS that I have now become a guinea pig for them. LOL
DS told me that her primary doctor is the one who referred to this place. She lost 1 lb this week and has now lost 34 lbs since July 8th. If this works for me the Bariatric doctor she can take them on the weeks she isn't able to get the shot. Good news for me. |
Mad, I know that thirst is a sign of high blood sugar but that was not the case. I think I just don't drink enough plus the coffee I drink dehydrates me. Then it catches up with me. Or maybe it's something else that increases thirst. The last time I went to the ER the first thing they did was put on a bag of saline and said I was dehydrated. 2 bags total, even before they diagnosed my heart issue. I have started drinking some electrolyte water too and I never get foot/leg cramps anymore.
I don't like to answer the phone if I don't know the number. I let the machine take it then I can pick up if it's legit. Most of the time they hang up so that means it is bogus. DH always answers and that makes me mad. I feel that some day he will give out info. For years we got calls for his daughter. He told them he didn't know her but they kept calling. They would not say what it was for. After years, they stopped calling. |
DH called the phone company to ask how someone could call us on our land phone and the caller ID shows his name and phone # as the caller calling on the land phone. The lady told him that it is called "spoofing" and NOT to answer it. She said they are just trying to find out if it is a working # and if you answer you will get more and more spam calls. Phone companies are limited as to what they can do. She said you can block the numbers and they just change to another number and keep calling. Thought I would share that information with y'all.
I got a message from Amazon and my pills will be hear tomorrow afternoon when mail is delivered. Carol Sue I too am trying to drink more water/liquids because as we know I am bad about becoming dehydrated. I figured that was what was going on with you too. |
Trish, I have heard of spoofing although it has never happened to us. My friend had that happen with her DHs # shortly after he passed away. Our biggest problem is calls that say they are the police and wanting donations. They use DHs name. The other problem is calls from out health insurance. They want to send a nurse to our house. I answer those calls because it could be important but it never is. They also send a lot of junk mail.
FBG was 105. Blood sugar was high last night because I had a milk shake from Arbys. It must have had a lot of sugar. I don't get a big spike from a Wendy's frosty. No more Arby's milkshakes for me! This is when I'm glad I have extra G. I should not rely on it like that, I know. It brings blood sugar down but just pushes it into the cells. It's much better not to have the sugar in the first place. |
Successful fasting yesterday, weight 150 this am. Coming down down down! Am also happy with the 40 minute walk I have been doing daily. My neighbour has a delightful dog, a "rhodesian ridgeback" they got as a rescue. This neighbour has problems with arthritis, and though she tried to keep active, is not always able to do so, but her partner also walks the dog. They have been doing a lot of extra volunteering in our community due to a plumbing problem affecting us all, and now her arthritis has really acted up. I have been walking their dog on my daily walks to help out, and committed to do so now until we leave next week.
Unlike the beagle I cared for a couple of weeks ago, this dog love to walk and go at a fast pace, doesn't slow me down to much. She can hang out and do her "sniffy" thing closer to home, (I know its important for dogs to have that too) and have a good quick walk with me. So I think several days of this is already showing for me as well. Checked in with my doctor yesterday as well. I am still having some nausea, some diarrhea and occasional dizziness. Blood sugars seem fine whenever I check. BP was ok. A bit of inflammation in one ear. She figures just a virus, (what I thought, but wanted to be sure before we go on our trip next week). Ordered some blood work for me, which I will do when I get back from the trip, that will be around the time of my birthday (58!) and about a year from last set of blood work. She included B12 levels for me. I will get to see what a full year of IF has done for my A1C as well. I am jazzed to find out at the end of the month. Trish: I know what you mean about being really ready and ready to commit. A lot of people ask what I did to lose so much weight and how I keep it off, but as soon as I start, they come at me with why they "could never do that". I switch and say I also had success with this other thing, and they say why that can't do that. I talk about WW and they tell me it was too hard to stick to.... I ask what they think they could do, and they "just don't know". They want a magic button or pill. I say, when they are ready, they will keep trying until they find the right path. And then I shut up. It is clear (at least to me) they are not ready to find that path. You have never stopped trying, and I hope this path is right for you and you are able to stick to plan and have it work. I did have a much better sleep last night, but still a bit groggy this morning, I assume a "hangover" from so little the night before, though I had a brief nap yesterday afternoon. This time off work has allowed me to learn to have little naps again. I don't go to bed for it, its in the easy chair or on the couch but still an improvement for those tired days. Well, I have gone on long enough, and wish you all a good day. |
Hello everyone - haven't been in for awhile...came down with a nasty cold and flu. Question - does your ladies blood glucose levels spike more when you have a cold/flue or even during menstruation? Sorry pretty new to all of this.
I think my last weigh 227-228. Now down to 225. The goal has always been to get under 200 so going to keep on chugging. |
Good to hear from you, Mad. You are doing well keeping up with your exercise with the dog who probably loves it and will miss you when you are gone. Our dog walks well with DH but not with me.
I understand those who ask how you lost weight are looking for magic and they think you found it.. I am too, sometimes! LOL. But there is none. You have found what works for you. I am still sleeping well. Having trouble on my side but do well on my back with shoulders slightly elevated. Up to the bathroom often but fall fall back to sleep. I did not take gout meds yesterday or today. Have some wrist pain which was last to leave so first to return. No foot pain yet. I will go back to meds at first sign. Hi JoscelynMarie. I am well past menustration but do know that blood sugar will rise from anything that stresses the body, including illness. Good job n the pounds down. On the way to Onederland and out of Twotersville! |
FBG 123 and weight 214.8 this morning. I am really enjoying this WOE. I'm even making the food planning fun on MFP. It makes it so easy to track exercise as well as working out the calories and carbs to keep them low where I want them. My pills are out for delivery so they should be in the mailbox in about an hour if the mail comes on time. I am really hyped up today. Planning our home made pizza for lunch and already have calories and carbs planned for the day. Calories under 1200 and net carbs 70. I've already done my exercise for the day. I ended up with 33 minutes yesterday because I was talking to daughter and wasn't watching the time. I ended up with 25 minutes today because I was talking to DS.
Mad Yes I have been searching for a healthy plan for years that would not only work but I can live with as a lifestyle and I believe I have finally found it. My first goal is to get under 200 lbs. It is nice to know that if the pills don't work then I can go for the weekly shots, but one way or another, I'm going to make it this time. I worked for friends who owned a Health Food Store and I know that when you use natural path rather than chemicals in prescriptions that it takes a little longer, but it is so much healthier. This is what I've been looking for. Carol Sue I haven't had a regular milk shake in ages. My protein shakes fill the spot. DH and I love DQ blizzards but have had only 1 small one each since we moved here 3 yrs ago. We talk about it but just don't want the sugar. I haven't had the Wendy frosty but DS takes one to Daddy when she and BIL go see him on Sunday. JocelynMarie I past menstrual times too so don't know about that and I haven't had a cold in a long time, but illness does raise my bs some. Like Carol Sue says, any stress on the body does raise bs. Congratulations on the weight loss. You know a few weeks ago I talked to a case worker at the nursing home who told me we could move Daddy back to the CHF clinic where we have always gone because the hospital and his insurance company worked out a contract so he can stay through December 2020. DS called Monday and we were able to go back there so we have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. We are so glad. DH used to go to the other one when we first moved here and we were in that hospital plan for his tests when he was on Cumadin. They were not as friendly and it took us forever to get them to straighten out our bill. They were charging us when they weren't supposed to and took us about 4 months or more to get it straightened out. Parking is terrible there too so DS and I decided to stay at the clinic we like. We still have the same doctor as he practices both places so it worked out good for us. Y'all have a great day everybody. |
