I think I might quit taking my Metformin. I'm not in a hurry to die but I sure don't want to live until 120.

Hi Liliann. Welcome to the thread. We don't have any other type 1 posters here, but we will try the best we can to give you support. Some here are type 2 and some are prediabetic, so we might not understand a lot about type 1. The circumstances are different. Are you injecting insulin? Exercise, such as walking can be very helpful in keeping Blood Sugar under control. Right now I am having Blood Pressure issues and I'm afraid to exercise until I find out what's going on. I've just been doing some gentle walking, such as when I'm shopping. It's going to be a real challenge with the holidays.

I recall you and patty discuss this...this is a learning journey. I also taking pressure meds..and now injection. My medical doctor is a woman, she struggling too, about 36 # she needs to shed.

Evening everyone

Carol we made crafts and went to the park in the morning then I made sugar cookies for my dgd to decorate after she woke up from her nap. We had a fun day... My new dgs slept most of the time lol.

Welcome Liliann.....I was diagnosed this year as well...type 2. Lots of info on the Internet. As you can see we are all trying different ways to keep our blood glucose low. I do low carb with a little higher fat most days. I also try to walk 10,000 steps each day. That's 5 miles

Hi lilianne - Just want to be sure... You are definitely Type 1?? Usually that isn't managed with the single pen injections but rather with injections that vary based on your current blood sugar readings, what you are eating, when you are eating, etc. There are some Type 2 diabetics who are given small doses of insulin or even non-insulin pen injections to manage more significant blood sugar rises and high A1C. Do you know what your A1C was and is this the first time it has ever been checked?

Liliann Welcome to the diabetic thread. I remember you from another thread we were on together. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis but we do try to be supportive each other. Glad you are here. No fun to have to start this at holiday time, but it can be done and we are here for you.

Quick flyby. I have updated my ticker. I had hoped I would be able to get back down to the 225, but didn't. So it is correct as of today. I am going to be doing my own personal MLC (moderately low carb) plan of eating low carb 6 days with 1 carb day a week which I plan to normally be Saturday. So I'm making Saturday my new WI day. So this brings me up to date on the ticker.

I've got to get the FBS and the triglycerides down. Now is as good a time as any to get started.

Y'all have a nice weekend.

My FBG is still in the 160s, still not good, but much lower that the 200s I was having. I hope it continues to improve. I don't want to increase meds, so that's my goal.

Liliann, I'm glad you're getting this taken care of. An A1c of 16 is high. I'm thinking that the injection you're using isn't insulin, but some other injectable for diabetes, as insulin usually causes weight gain. There are some injectables that contribute to weight loss, along with diet and exercise.

Let us know how you're doing with this, and with your diet.

Liliann -

Type 1 and Type 2 are very different kinds of diabetes. You can have high A1 c on either. So saying "in my book I am Type 1..." Not sure I understand that?

If you were type 1 you would be insulin dependent and would be giving yourself multiple injections each day based on checking your blood sugar readings and using unsulin to regulate blood sugars throughout the day.

It certainly sounds more like you are Type 2 and injecting a product once a day to control your sugars and aid in weight loss.

Not being arguementative just helping clarify. It doesn't make the urgency in addressing the health issue any different, but they are two different diagnosis and have different approaches to managing.

Your low carb plan is a perfect way to actively address your needs. Congrats for taking steps right nowM

(What is the name of your injection med?)

Healthy..jlus.. Thank you for sharing your input. Am confused. This afternoon went to pharmacy and could not get the pen. Have to wait till next week till they speak with my doctor and insurance,to see if my insurance covers it. I do not know if am getting the pen or pills.

Started smoothies ,only fruit. It's my plan. While I cook dinner for my mom,and sister.smoothies is much easier for me. Am being strict.

More and more I suspect you are Type 2. There would be an immediate order for the insulin if that is what it was.

Be VERY cautious with fruit. It is very high in carbs and having it in a smoothie generally means using way more fruit than a diabetic should have. Just the carbs in one small Apple can be too many.

Look for some low carb (10 or less) higher protein drinks (15-25 g). Quick and easy. EAS AdvantEDGE, Pure Protein or Premiere Protein. You can even add spinach and ice and blend in the blender for a very filling shake. Or Quest shake powdered (GNC) are very yummy).

Evening everyone
Liliann I agree about the fruit....be very careful. food such as lean meat, green veggies, cheese and eggs , plain yogurt, a small handful of nuts, will keep you fuller longer and lower your blood sugar.
Have you talked to a dietician? Or even check out a low carb board,,there is one on here you can check out.
Carol, yeah on bg coming down!!!
Trish I'm having a hard time keeping to a strict low carb plan so going moderately low as well...aiming for 50-60 per day.

So yesterday I was out all morning till late in the afternoon,,,came home and napped on the couch. When I woke up my eyes were weird....like weird before my cataract surgery....but thought it was because I just woke up. So got my xmas totes out and started decorating....my legs were so wobbly!! I was having a hard time,,,again thought it was due to just waking up. Finally, it dawned on me to check my bg...it was 2.6 yikes!!!!! I panicked! Ate a glucose tablet , then went for my smash stocking stash and grabbed a choc covered toffee...phew!
Tested again 30 mins later was up to8.6. Then an hour later was normal 5.4.
It took me till bedtime before i felt normal again...very scary! I've never felt like that before.

That same thing happened to me once, p.a. Very scary! I woke up during the night and felt weird. Tested and was at 44, which is close to your 2.6. I piece of hard candy had me back to normal in about 15 minutes. Now I won't take my glimiperide before bed anymore. I keep thinking what if it hadn't woken me up.

Liliann, I hope you got things straightened out with your meds. You really need them, and I agree with p.a. that you should have a few sessions with a nutritionist or diabetes educator. Your insurance should probably pay for that. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
