I hope this works. I got it from MFP newsletter on how to boost our metabolism. Thought I would share it.

Hey everyone looks like you both are finding answers to your high bg readings! Good going! I have another Drs appt in a few weeks and I'm anxious to see how lower carbing has affected my other readings. I know it works great for low bg.
I'm still doing essentrics but now I've added getting off my a$$ every hour and walking 1000 steps on my Fitbit. Much easier to get my 10,000 steps in and funny but I can feel it more in my muscles. I watched a documentary on how we should move during the whole day not just once a day. I feel more energetic to.

p.a. Good to hear from you. I think we all realize the importance of exercise when it comes to being healthy and keeping our bg under control. Took me years to get that right when I had the eating right. Now I've got the exercise down and need to get my eating back under control. I think if I ever get my act together and do both at the same time that I won't have the problems I have now. We can do this girl.

I actually am learning the same thing p.a. that exercise can be moving around and doing my house work. I like the idea on MFP that they count housecleaning as exercise. I started cleaning house yesterday and I plan to do 20 to 30 minutes of housecleaning everyday. I started with my bathroom. In fact, I told DH that if I ever have another house built that it will not have a toilet room as small as mine. I am so sore today from trying to clean the floor behind the toilet. LOL I have one job that I dread tackling and plan to hit it one day next week. Years ago when DH kids moved in everything was put in my closet. When anything had to go somewhere it was thrown in there. I really dread having to clean that thing out, but my goal is to tackle it one day this week. It is hard on my back but I will have to do a little bit at a time. But I am going to do it.

I have actually fallen back into eating SBD. So I've decided to go for it. I am going to keep my 2% milk and will just see how all this goes. After all this was a diet planned for heart patients so it is good. I actually would have gotten off yesterday but thanks to my DH I made it through. He wanted a salad and I was so sick of salads, but I decided that if I had to make him one that I might as well have one too. Thus I made it through. It paid off. My FBS was 152 this morning. YEY!!! I know that isn't low, but it has been between 176 to 200 this month. Taking the Metformin at night is working. Thanks Carol Sue.

Got to run if I'm going to be on time at the beauty shop.

For the first time in ages I did well with my food through the whole day. I usually start out good but end up bad. I had around 1000 calories, no starchy carbs, but my carbs from vegetables and fruit came in around 47 gm. I felt a little hungry at bedtime but I fought through it in my mind, and only ate my bedtime egg. When I checked BS at bedtime it was only 113 so I was afraid to take both of the Metformin. I only took one, and my blood sugar was 160 this morning. It probably would have been lower if I had taken both the pills. Like you Trish, I feel that 160 is better than 200. I normally don't eat much fruit but after today I realize that I can have some in small quantities and still have good blood sugar.

p.a. I would like to know how long it takes you to walk 1000 steps. That would be good for me to try to reach more steps, and I agree that spreading them out throughout the day would be more beneficial than doing them all at once.

Carol Sue Here is a website I found naming 10 benefits of Kale. A boy at the store told DH and me it was the best vegetable you can eat. Here is why.

Yes, kale is becoming so popular for it's health benefits. It does have a downside, though. If eaten raw it can affect your thyroid function, along with other cruciferous vegetables. Lucky for me, I don't like many raw vegetables or smoothies. I only like them cooked. Also, my step-son is not allowed to eat anything containing vitamin K because he is on Courmadin.

Yes, I thought about the Vitamin K. No way DH would eat it if he could. Shame he can't because it is so good for us. I eat it in my eggs.

I am pretty much committed to SBD. I would like to join the official on line group and almost did, but couldn't see spending the money when there is a free support group here and on 2 other websites + the one on FB.

I did the free questionnaire on the official SBD site and recommended I eat smaller meals and snacks along with a Supercharge exercise 20 minutes a day. I have both the SBD books and will re-read and do the Supercharge exercise using my recumbent bike. I have a friend who wants to do this with me which will make this easier for me. Can't hurt DH either.

This is actually Day 3 on Phase 1, but since I've been easing into it, I am making this my official Day 1 since I am finally back down today in line with my ticker. I am keeping track on MFP so I can keep up with the calorie/carb count. I actually am enjoying this.

SBD/FB had recipe for making LC ice cream using the NSA fudgescicles, ricotta cheese and cool whip. I forgot to get the fudgescicles. So I took unsweetened cocoa, ricotta chees and cool whip with a little bit of Stevia and mixed it together and ate it more as a pudding than an ice cream. I probably could have froze it a little for ice cream as well. I had that for dinner last night.

FBS was 155 this morning. So that was good too.

Hi gang: just checking in after a long time.
Haven't been checking BS for a while, and focusing on getting more exercise and watching what I eat. Was about to quit my ww plan, but the new plan came out and I decided to try to track and try the new program. It is not as punishing for low carb eaters, as protein is encouraged more and fat not punished as much.
I am stuck at home today, have a snow day, its too treacherous to drive. I got on the treadmill for a while though!.
Have a good day everyone.

Ughhhh back on track after supper ( cuz I made eggs and sausage sage so made toast with it) and doing my mini walks tonight. I'm sure the scale will jump overnight

Hi Mad! Good to see you and hear that you are doing well and have found a plan that works for you.

p.a. 10 minutes isn't bad. I will have to try that, but I really doubt if I will do it every hour. I think every time I have to go down to the basement for something I can jump on the treadmill for 10 minutes.

That's exactly why my cookies went home with my company. It's very easy to defrost them LOL

Just checking in after a long time. I do read but don't post.

Just signed up for WW online because of the new programme. I think I'll still be able to use some of my South Beach Recipes. I just have to get this darned weight under control. I must confess I have not been getting bloodwork done, testing or taking my meds. That has to change, starting now. I am planning to finish my term as Treasurer of the Mill and focus on me - the term ends mid-June.

In the meantime I am going to try to focus more on ME and my health. And yes, I will face the music and get my HA1C tested ... soon.

Well, since everyone else is showing up, I guess I will to.

I've been eating really healthy lately - lots of veg, some fruit, protein, low on simple carbs.

BUT - I still haven't moved my fat A$$. ARGH, it's making me crazy. I know I will feel better, sleep better, possibly lose more weight. So where the heck is the disconnect?

I tend to think, rethink and yes rationalize myself up the wazoo. ENOUGH! I'm gonna JUST DO IT. I can think afterwards.

Greetings and best wishes to all.

It's not as bad as it sounds really,,,,I sit around way too much in the winter. And this way I really feel like I'm doing something during the day. Last night I was watching tv and in 2 hours I got in over 3000 steps ...

Ruth and Cindy! Great to see you both! This makes me want to break into a chorus of Hail Hail The Gang's All Here. LOL

Ruth, I think you need to stop in here more often so we can give you a proper pep talk about bloodwork, testing and meds. Please put us on your schedule, we miss you!

Cindy, I am having the same problem getting my exercise started! Good job with the food, though.

p.a. When I do exercise, I usually do it while watching my soaps from 12:30 - 2 PM, but not necessarily the whole time. I have never checked to see how many steps I get in during that time. I just look at the total for the day. I will have to check it out. Maybe I will be curious enough about it to actually get myself moving! There are so many ways to sneak extra exercise into our day if we Just Do It like the Nike ad!

Seeing the activity on this thread makes me so happy!!

this is nice, I was thinking of you Ruth, this morning.
A big part of getting things under control for me relates to sleep.
As those who know me know, I have been suffering with insomnia for several years. It is made worse by my job, which requires me to be up some nights.

I found that a low dose anti-depressant helped with the insomnia, but certain side effects made me need to get off of it. But the insomnia got worse again.
Recently my doc had me try a different anti-depressant at a very low dose and that seems to help. I have more energy again, and am sleeping better, and even lost a couple of pounds without trying, just by not craving foods to keep me energized.

Now I am furthering that with being more watchful. I am not doing low carb, but controlled carb, and tracking using the ww site.

Will just see how it goes.

Any one using a step tracker? I had a fitbit, which I lost, and am considering something new, but haven't decided which.
