Meowee,,thanks for reading my concerns about my aic,,,the thing is no matter when I test it is usually good unless I have eaten something that I know will make it high,,,thanks for understanding my frustation,,,
Hello to everyone and hope you have a great day,,,spring is coming,,slowly but coming,,,later ,,Jeanne
MIETTE . . . . . . I definitely agree with Monet, you need to cut back on the carbs and increase the fruits and veggies. A little more protein would be a good thing, too. It really helps to keep you feeling full. I know you are a bit 'meat phobic' but how about beans and other legumes? Cottage cheese is another great protein . . . Another little thing, IMHO you are causing some of your own spikes. Perhaps you should hold off on your after dinner walk or cut it down to 10 or 15 minutes. Eating increases everybody's BGL and about 1.5 to 2 hours after eating, anything under about 9.0 is considered normal. You should be back to your pre-meal levels about 3 to 3.5 hours after eating . . . Finally (and then I will shut up), ask DH to make sure you are awake when he notices you slinking down for your middle of the night cereal fix. Then check your BGL level, you may be going low. If that is the case, you can definitely have a snack but make it some fruit and maybe a little piece of cheese rather than the cereal . . . Okay, lecture is over . . .
Meowee,
I really appreciate the advice! We stocked up on some fresh veg so I'm hoping I will be able to switch over to that instead of all the carbs I'm eating during the day. I'm a grazer, sadly, so I need something to chew on or I go a little crazy. I have been really bad about eating peanuts or Saltines when I nibble. I liked your idea about beans and legumes. I enjoy those and they are easy to prepare. I had some success with my middle-of-the-night problem and slept through until 5 AM and was a bit hypo so I did have a bowl of ceral. Again, thanks very much for the help!
Morning everyone.. sunny and cold here this am..my sl has been higher in the morning.. more so than normal and i have been eating the right things and nothing after dinner maybe im having a lo in the middle of the night and not know it..sure is frustrating tho.. as normal is 104 for me and its been 141 yesterday and 127 this am..its all a balancing act isnt it..dont know what i have planned for the day..im suppose to go to the grdd soccor game..and maybe bingo tonight..hope you all have afun weekend(((hugs)))) rosey
Life is looking brighter today . . . although we are still having dull weather. Funny thing about yesterday's storm . . . after it stopped snowing it warmed up quite a bit and we ended the day with less snow on the ground than we had before we got the latest few inches. At least the toothache has calmed down again . . . I'm sure it's a pressure related thing because I'm clenching my teeth at night. Supposedly we have a Nor-Easter due to hit us tomorrow night, but we are not going to be hit as badly as the eastern seabord of the US. Come on, now . . . it's the middle of April already. This is getting beyond silly.
ROSEY and JEANNE . . . Seems like a number of us are having some frustrating BGL and A1C readings. I know my higher than usual mornings are almost always from middle of the night lows. Don't forget that weird weather changes can have an impact, too . . . and most of us have been having some pretty strange weather so far this Spring.
Fruits and veggies are definitely a Diabetic's best friends, MIETTE . . . another thing you might want to try is good old oatmeal (not instant) in place of some of the packaged cereal you've been eating. Nuts are great, but watch the serving size; they are very high calorie. Stay away from the saltines. Nasty, nasty, I swear they are addictive.
I posted a recipe for protein pancakes on here a while ago (can't exactly remember when) but you might want to try them. Pretty simple, really good, and really filling. Anyway, here it is again . . .
Protein Pancakes
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese
1/2 cup egg whites
Whiz around in the blender or with a mixer until no longer lumpy. Spray pan with cooking spray and cook like any other pancake. Serve with NSA maple-flavoured syrup.
Anyway, gang . . . hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned . . . see you all again really soon . . .
Morning everyone..another spring day here..the snow has receded alot..my sl was 127 this am.. and im frustrated..have been trying to watch my carbs and when i do that i feel shaky and queasy..yesterday i had 1/2 cup of low sugar granola and coffee..a salad for lunch with diced up chicken..an apple for a snack..and for dinner i was at bingo so we got from the deli turkey, cheese and fresh fruit and a few wheat crackers..by the time i got home i had a raging headache..so i had 1/2 pbutter sandwhich on wwbread and this am a higher sl errrrr ive wanted to cut back on the carbs becuz i felt i was consuming to many( and also would like to loose a few #)..and i have swithched to better carbs than white bread ,rice ,and potatoes..so what works for you all?? by the way i won again at bingo..honestly you all must think im making this up but my winning streak is still there..and i won a free gift certificate for next wks bingo and 250$..i need to go to vegas hope you all are having a great weekend((((hugs))) from a frustrated rosey
Hi ROSEY . . . Well, congratulations on the win . . . again . . .
Don't know what to suggest about your BGL problems. Maybe you are going low in the middle of the night like I do so often and that's why you are high this morning. Try checking just before you go to bed and if you are below about 130, have a little snack . . . just fruit or fruit and a bit of cheese or a wee bit of PB. Bread does me in . . . even the good stuff. I was up at 4 am again this morning and had a reading of 4.3 (77); bet if I hadn't woken up, I would have been considerably higher by 8 am. Strange disease we have here. Unfortunately, just when you think you are starting to figure it out, everything goes haywire.
We are actually having a sunny and mild (8C/46F) day and they have cancelled the warning about the Nor-Easter we were supposed to get tonight. so, just maybe, things are going to take aturn for the better.
Just back from doing a little shopping and, in a weak moment, I bought some make-believe Tofutti Ice Cream bars (only 40 calories, low fat, no added sugar, coffee flavoured). Ate one -- didn't seem too bad, but now I feel ill and I definately will not be eating another one soon. I think it is all in my mind because it's TOFU. I'm fine with soy burgers and other things made with those little TVP nuggets, but as soon as I see TOFU, I think all my receptors shut down and I go into some kind of withdrawal coma or something. Anyway, these things came 12 to a package and cost over $6.00 so I can't bring myself to throw them out so guess I'll just move them to the big freezer downstairs and hope I can find somebody to give them to.
Anyway, you have a good day and the same good wishes for everybody else, wherever you are hiding . . . keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . see you soon.
Yep, as Meowee said, just when you think you have it all figured out, it goes haywire. Last night, I forgot to take my Byetta to a dinner party. I ate some fruit, some veggies, a few whole wheat chocolate chip cookies, and a couple pieces of white bread with cheese...nothing terribly bad. My bg was 255 when I got home! I about croaked. It has not been over 200 in a year! I was MAD about it. This morning, it was 180 when I woke up. I shot the Byetta, and it crashed to 50! I am SO sick of having to worry about it, check it, manage it, think about it....I want to scream. I know part of the problem is my not getting my usual daily walk in lately. I am mad that the weather has made opening the pool undesireable after it was so nice two weeks ago. I have a wedding to cater this coming weekend, so it is going to be another busy week. I am feeling stressed because my husband is trying to get the stupid taxes done and the program he got to do them on the computer is overly intuitive, and keeps messing up the forms, so he is getting stressed which makes me feel stressed.
Ok, sorry for whining. It will all be much better tomorrow, I am sure!
Oh MONET . . . . . . We all have a need to whine sometimes . . . I know just how you feel. OMG it would be nice to just be 'normal' sometimes, rather than always having to figure out what your BGL 'might' do . . . especially since it sometimes doesn't seem to matter what you do anyway. Oh, sigh!
Anyway gang . . . today is definitely the day I'm going to do my taxes . . . enough procrastinating. The weather is relatively mild but dull and light rain or light snow is predicted for most of the week, so it's perfect weather for the fun job of figuring out how much you hve to pay the tax department.
Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking day planned. See you all later . . .
Good morning all,,hope you all had a great relaxing week-end,,our weather yesterday was great,,but I was burned out from working and just layed around,,,
Monet,,not that I am glad at how you feel ,,,but I sware you put into words just what I am feeling,,,just plain sick of it,,the harder I try the worse it is,,,all my reading are good,,and so I must go low ,,then high in the middle of the night,,,when I try to cut more carbs out I go to low,,,just a circle,,,anyway just wanted to tell you thanks,,,sometimes I feel like I just don't get it,,,
Anyway enough of my crying,,,talk to you all later and hi to all and have a great day,,,,Jeanne
Morning everyone..ok can i join the list at being frustrated to i am having the same troubles..usually my sl is 104 in the am..becuz im going on vacation i wanted to loose a few# and try and get some stamina esp in my legs so i can move around easier..anyways i have been so careful and cutting down on portions and carbs and even exercisicng and my sl are higher last week when i ate what i wanted and didnt exercise my sl stayed around 104 now they are 127 and higher..on the happy note i feel better and have lost 3 # so thats good..maybe im just stressed about it all..so jeanne monet and meowee you all described whats going on with me to a T.. and you are all right i HATE this disease also..seems we are always focused on food and testing and trying to figure out what works for ourselves grrrrrrrr..but the alternative isnt pretty either..by the way i tried that peach sorbet recipe and it was wonderful but i ate it like a slushy..1 cup frozen peaches ,1/2 tsp of crystal lite lemonade powder,3/4 c water and 4 ice cubes..blend till smooth.. its 75 calories or 1 ww pt..i sure hope that we all have a better day rosey
Hey everyone! When I woke up this morning and my bg was over 200, I had had enough. I suited up and headed out to walk. This is the only difference...I am not exercising as much as I was. It is hard to get motivated when I feel so tired from the low thyroid, but I did it anyway. My knee is bothering me too, but I decided no more excuses.
My daughter just started a new job at a local gym, and is urging me to join it so I can work out with her. I am very interested. They have a pool and year round water aerobics, so it is very tempting. It is not too expensive either. I can join for under $100 and then about $35 a month. I have not decided, but I am leaning towards doing it. It may be just the kick in the pants I need.
I went to the school today and taught the last two classes...now I have to load up the kiln, and get this stuff fired. It is going to make this week really busy.
Message in my e:mail this morning from D:Life about a survey in connection with a new insulin/byetta delivery system . . . Diatribe (the developer) is offering a $10 Amazon gift certificate for participation. I did the little survey (doesn't take long) and thought some of you might like to do it as well. Here is the link to D:Life and from there you can link to the survey . . . http://by107fd.bay107.hotmail.msn.co...49bd35afc24840
Keep things moving and shaking today, gang . . . see you later . . .
I actually dropped 2K overnight after a day of no wine, lots of water and Phase One of South Beach! I know that won't happen every overnight (I wish!) but it sure was encouraging after being stick at 205 for six weeks! I'd nearly forgotten how to change my ticker.
Lowering carbs so much was a bit of a concern but I was sure to have milk and legumes and tested several times during the day - A OK! Now to keep it up!
I'm on the road today so have just made a chick pea salad for lunch and will take along a yogurt too. I know I can do this - I just need to get my brain in gear!
Well, I had suspected something was wrong with my machine that measures my blood sugars, and I was right. I got a new one over the weekend and it's much more accurate. The only downside was that the needle thingee (I don't know what it's called in English) clicks down way way too hard and hurt a lot! So, I went to the pharmacy again yesterday and got a different one. Much better.
I'm trying really hard to watch my calories and I'm still eating way too many carbs... just a tremendous amount. It's a serious eye opener. We stocked up on some veggies at the grocery store, but I always grab something carbalicious instead of reaching for the greens. I am going to work really hard on that.
Meowee: Thanks for the recipe and also... for the tips on oatmeal. I love oatmeal! I don't ever buy the instant type because it comes prepackaged with sugar and has dried up apple bits in it. ack. I will definately try some of that with maybe some Splenda or something in it. Anyone here using Splenda?
Glad you got a new BGL metre, MIETTE . . . and the pricker thingee is called a lancet . . . . . . Splenda is a diabetics best friend, especially when it comes to baking. I don't put any sweetener in my oatmeal, though . . . just a healthy teaspoon of cinnamon (which is very good for diabetics, BTW). You could add a little Splenda, cinnamon, and vanilla to the pancakes if you'd like them a little sweeter. Another quicky non-recipe that I may have mentioned before is to mix a couple of teaspoons of Splenda and a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder into a cup of plain FF/SF yogurt . . . does wonders to satisfy the chocolate cravings.
