Well here it is Wednesday already . . . also my official weigh-in day . . . and I'm officially stuck at 233 for another week . . . sigh. Oh well, I know things will eventually get moving again . . . just sometimes I really wish for a little more speed. The BGL was up this morning, too -- 6.7 (121) -- very high for me. Since I had a good day yesterday and good BGL's too, I think I probably slept through a little hypo again.
Yes Buddy Ball and I are still bouncing around together . . . I've never thought about doing a before and after "balling" test, may give that a try. That's an amazing amount of downward movement in a very short time frame, MONET.
You are amazing ROSEY . . . I think you should definitely plan a trip to Vegas . . . of course, that might just ruin your winning streak.
Great loss ROSETTA . . . keep it going, girl.
I've got two litter pans on the go, JOSIAN. And, yes RUTH it is a nuisance, but don't you have to do the 'poop pick-up' routines for the dogs?
Great big HI for everybody else. Hope you all have wonderful moving and shaking things planned for the day. See you later . . .
Won't get to weigh in on my regular day this week. Will be watching our granddaughter Thursday and Friday. She has been sick since Easter. Lost 3 pounds(she's 27 months and only 24 pounds). They took her to ER yesterday. She has the rooto virus, which can be fatal in kids under 5. They gave her medince and this morning she is foing much better. 3 more kids at daycare have come down with it. She will be on a special diet the next three days. Goes back to the dr next Wednesday.

I actually had Killer Sugar today. My BGL was 4 (72) and I felt strange so I had a tsp. in some applesauce. I guess a glug of maple syrup would have worked too.
The group at the Living Well with Pain workshop was interesting. About half the group of 20 had diabetes as well as other stuff and I felt pretty darned healthy with only my knee to crab about. We had to set an action plan for the week so this will definitely get me out of the house and walking for ten minutes. The Doc increased my pain meds so I'm sure I can manage. We also discussed my "down" feelings and he pointed out that I'm not working at the Greenhouse this Spring as in other years. That could account for the weight gain and the slight depression. Duh!
I need to get moving and shake my slight snit - I am having well problems to deal with again. The sun is shining and I am going to get out and freeze in it for a bit.
Hey everyone, I'm new here (both to 3chicks and to the thread). I have been trying to catch up on your April posts...you sure a chatty bunch! That's good, though... I'm hoping to fit in. I see that most of you have a day where you weigh in? I haven't used a scale since mine broke.. lol.. that sounds bad. But I do measure my waist every week. I think it's time to go out and buy a new scale. Do you guys use the digital ones or something else? Is one kind more reliable than another?
Another thing I noticed is that the US has a different measuring system for bloodsugars than we do over here in Europe. I was interested in how one converts? My sugars have been kinda high today but that could be because I put milk in my coffee. :P
What does BG and BGL stand for? I'm sorry I'm a little slow!
Oh JUDY . . . . . . Hope everything will be Okay for your granddaughter.
Glad the new group turned out to be interesting, RUTH . . .
Hi MIETTE . . . . . . Glad to see you found us.
Personally, I use a digital scale -- and it really doesn't matter how accurate one scale is compared to another scale; just that it be consistent. Although digital scales can be a little touchy . . . you may want to weight yourself 3 times and take an average . . . they do tend to remain accurate (unless they have a battery problem - but most of the newer ones don't even have batteries that need replacing).
Canada (and the rest of the world) use the same BGL scale you are used to and I tend to always translate because most of the gang are from the US. Simply multiply or divide by 18 to convert and round to the closest number . . . for example; 100 / 18 = 5.6 (actually 5.5555) ; 4.7 x 18 = 85 (actually 84.6). Since HbA1C (the average over a 90 day period) numbers are based on the percentage of glucose in your blood, both scales are the same for that.
In your profile entry, you mentioned "low carb" a couple of times . . . I think it is far more important to think "good carb" instead -- meaning those with a fairly low Glycemic Index that are digested more slowly and therefore help to keep your BGL more stable for a longer period. Maybe you could give us some examples of what you are eating and when?
Hi all ,,,haven't been able to stop by for a chat in a while now,,Easter was great ,went down to see the kids and grandkiddies,,,gosh they grow up so fast when you don't see them everyday,,,anyway did all the easter egg hunts in town and had a nice picnic at the park,,
Got my bd results back and am not happy,,,although my bs are pretty good,,my aic was still high 7.9 not good average is 177/179 or so,,they must be in the middle of the night is all I can figure,,,because my morning reading are good,,,hardly ever have a single reading over 170 so whats up ?,,,suppose to call him and see if we can work out a plan,,sure can make you crazy when you think you are doing good,,and test says differant,,,urrrrr,,
Well hi to all and hope you all have been fine over the holidays,,,sure nice to be back,,,later and have a wonderful day,,,,Jeanne
Hi MIETTE . . . . . . Glad to see you found us.

Thanks, Meowee, I can give you some examples...however, be prepared to be horrified!
Every day for breakfast I eat a bowl of Bran Flakes with 1.7% milk. It kicks my sugars up but I haven't found any other cereal that doesn't. So, I stick with it for the fiber.
Lunch is usually two slices of whole wheat bread, two slices of 16%fat cheese and maybe two slices thinly cut ham, if I can tolerate the meat.
Around 3-4 I might have another sandwich if I'm really hungry or I'll eat an apple.
Dinner is really inconsistant. Sometimes we have salad...sometimes elaborate asian-inspired meals. My DH is the cook and he likes all different kinds of foods. Dinner also kicks my sugars up so I go for a thirty minute walk straight away... I mean, literally, I get up... take my plate to the kitchen, put on my shoes and I'm out the door walking for thirty minutes. By the time I get home, my sugars are usually normal and sometimes I'm a tad hypo. If so, I'll have 1/2 a cup of juice.
Now, here's the problem....
After dinner.... I get the munchies really badly. I will snack on peanuts, usually, but have been known to snack on dry cereal or anything crunchy, really. I stay away from chips and sweets but I am always munching something at night.
2 AM-4 AM My husband says that I get up most nights around this time and head down to the kitchen for a bowl of cereal but I swear, I don't remember doing this but just a few times. I don't know if I'm sleep walking or what.. but I take sleeping pills and I heard that they can cause problems like that. I trust my DH.. if he says I was up and snacking, then I was. I would LOVE to conquer that problem.
I'm pretty regular with all of this. I am a very picky eater so I don't sway too far from this menu most of the time. I would love any input, advice or suggestions. Thanks a bunch!

Hey everyone! I am nursing a really bad headache today instead of heading up to the mountains to work.
My bg levels were up again the last few mornings...grrr. I feel like I am eating too much, not the right stuff, exercising too little...generally not controlling it at all! I need to get back on track here. I haven't done my pre-bedtime bouncing for a few days. Guess I need to try that tonight.
Tomorrow, I am subbing for the art teacher again. I am doing a clay lesson. I am having a hardtime getting her to communicate with me...but I am sure it will go ok.
MIETTE: It is good to have you join us! Those letters are always fun to figure out! bg = blood glucose, bgl= blood glucose level. In looking over your menu, I think you need more vegetables and less bread. Instead of having a sandwich as a snack, how about some veggies and dip? As for the after dinner munchies, I think you need to really fight the urge to snack then. You are not really hungry, and therefore don't NEED to eat. It sounds like more of a habit, so if you can find something else to do that will occupy your mind, and fight it with all you've got, I am sure you can overcome the urge and eventually get to the point you won't even think of it. I rarely eat after dinner. I used to, but I started trying to eat three meals a day with NO snacks. It was hard at first, but eventually, it was just habit. I have gotten away from it some now, and need to go back to doing that.
ROSEY: What a hoot! A dog who loves to shower! She is probably going to want to play in the rain with you everytime you shower now!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Monet! Yes, I agree that I should be eating more fruits and veg. Where I live, the main dietary staple is *bread* and we eat a lot of it. I went to the grocery store and bought some celery and carrots to munch on. I will try harder to stay away from all the sandwichy stuff. I don't need to eat much in the evening, especially right after dinner. That's just a bad habit. Thanks for the tips!
. . . look . . . up in the sky . . . it's a bird . . . it's a plane . . . no . . . it's me . . . just flying right on by . . .
Sorry, but this has been a wickedly busy day . . . Have been trying to get my new blinds up. Got the curtains down; half the old blinds removed; all the windows cleaned (insides, at least) . . . started putting up the brackets for the new blinds and was making a mess of it so I called my friendly little handyman to come and finish the job. Only problem is that he couldn't come today. Maybe tomorrow morning BUT . . . we have another major storm warning for rain, freezing rain, snow (another 6") starting in the morning. So . . . guess I won't hold my breath waiting for Reg to appear.
MIETTE . . . . . . I definitely agree with Monet, you need to cut back on the carbs and increase the fruits and veggies. A little more protein would be a good thing, too. It really helps to keep you feeling full. I know you are a bit 'meat phobic' but how about beans and other legumes? Cottage cheese is another great protein . . . Another little thing, IMHO you are causing some of your own spikes. Perhaps you should hold off on your after dinner walk or cut it down to 10 or 15 minutes. Eating increases everybody's BGL and about 1.5 to 2 hours after eating, anything under about 9.0 is considered normal. You should be back to your pre-meal levels about 3 to 3.5 hours after eating . . . Finally (and then I will shut up), ask DH to make sure you are awake when he notices you slinking down for your middle of the night cereal fix. Then check your BGL level, you may be going low. If that is the case, you can definitely have a snack but make it some fruit and maybe a little piece of cheese rather than the cereal . . . Okay, lecture is over . . .
MONET . . . . . . Hope that headache is gone again by now. I'm nursing a recurring toothache the last little while (because I've been grinding my teeth at night). Pain in the head seems so much more debilitating than any other kind. No bouncing for me today either -- unless you count the number of times I tripped over the thing, while doing other stuff in the room.
ROSEY . . . . . . You must have been surprised to be the first one here this morning . . . you beat us all and you're in the latest time-zone. I know I'm usually the first one up, but now we've got Miette who is working on an even earlier time zone than I am. I'm a bit of a pack-rat too. Now I try to follow the 'old-one-out' for every 'new-one-in'. Doesn't work all the time, but it does help keep me in control a little better.
JEANNE . . . . . . Sorry your A1C wasn't better. I know exactly how you feel -- don't forget that the AIC averages everything -- both the pre-prandial and the post-prandial. I know I tend to get into the habit of timing my testing, unconciously, so that I get mostly good readings and then get a shock when the A1C brings me back to reality. You've got to try to remember to mix it up a little.
Speaking of BGL . . . mine was not great most of the day . . . hopefully tomorrow will be better. Anyway, gang . . . here's a big for everybody else. Keep things moving and shaking tonight and I'll catch up with you all again later. . .
Rain would be a pleasant event compared to the way it is snowing here . . . Good Morning, Glen . . .
I am definitely NOT in a good mood today . . . didn't sleep well and have a throbbing toothache as well as the crummy weather. BGL was 3.7 (67) at 3:30 when I woke up. All in all, not a good Friday the 13th around here.
Morning everyone..another sunny day here..the snow is almost gone from my deck and i can now sit on my bench without my feet in a snow bank or getting a wet "butt" ..and i removed the ice prong from my cane as the snow in town is gone to.. ..i went shopping yesterday for fresh produce and made chef salads for supper..im having trouble avoiding carbs.. when im hungry thats the first thing i want.. breads, crackers etc mostly i swithched to 100% whole wheat and am trying to incorperate the good carbs but the cravings have not gone away..does it get better? i did get exercise yesterday..my dd usually drops me at the door when we go shopping but i told her to park so i could walk..im proud of me as this is the first week that i have done some form of exercise deliberalty in forever baby steps work for me and im feeling good about myself..at least at the moment ..meowee sry you are having abummer day maybe it will get better mr ken i like the rain..and thunder storms which we dont get here in alaska..hope you all have agreat day((((hugs))) rosey
