August Challenge
Hi gardenerjoy! I'm not sure if you remember me. I was on this forum about 8 years ago, at which time my username was Tuscany. I lost about 50 lbs. back then in time for my daughter's wedding in Italy, and your thread was very helpful in my meeting my goals! Shortly before the wedding, I was diagnosed with something called a meningioma (a tumor on the membranes surrounding the brain) resulting in various difficulties. As part of my treatments, I was required to undergo both surgery and radiation, and in connection with that was required to take corticosteroids, resulting in a fair amount of weight gain. On top of that, as a side effect to the radiation therapy, I developed something called peripheral neuropathy, meaning I have nerve damage in my hands and feet, which limits my ability to walk/exercise. Long story short, I gained all of the weight I lost and then some...and I have been struggling to lose it given my medical issues and my age (now 64). So, remembering how much this site helped me before, I'm back!!
I couldn't figure out how to re-register using my prior username, so I am now called Muffs (new username). As for my August goal...I ended July at 243 and, as of today (Aug 3) I am 242.2. I would like to lose about 4 pounds per month, which would put me at a goal weight of 239 by the end of the month. We shall see.
I was really happy to see that you continue to host this thread. Good for you! And I hope all is well with you.

Welcome back, Muffs / Tuscany! It's great to see you here. That's a lot of challenges to deal with, but as many of us have seen on 3FC, it's worth working through the challenges to improve our situations. I'm happy to support you with this thread!

Thanks, gardinerjoy! This morning I was back to 242.8...but I don't get too concerned about daily movements on the scale, since they typically relate to water gains/etc. I likely shouldn't weigh on a daily basis, but I just can't help myself. Enjoy your day!
And, let's have some more people on gardinerjoy's great thread! Join in...

Muffs: Sometimes, when I weigh daily, I can start to treat the number as simply data and that can be really helpful. Much better than the times when I allow a number to be a comment on my character.
August goal: -1.0 kg, Weigh 10x
1: 87.3 kgs, 1/10
2: 86.65, 2/10
3: 86.6, 3/10
4: 86.4, 4/10
5: 86.65, 5/10

Well said, gardenerjoy. I weigh daily and take note of my daily weight. I do so because when I get stuck at a certain weight for a few days, or when the scale starts climbing (even though I've remained true), I can always look back and say: This has happened before, and this too shall pass!
All that said, I was smiling when I stepped on my scale this morning. My data (in lbs):
1: 242.8
2: 242.8
3: 242.2
4: 242.8
5: 241.6

Good Morning gardenerjoy and whomever else might be reading! I was smiling again this morning. I doubt this trend will last too long. Nevertheless, my cane and I are now off for our morning walk!

Morning gardenerjoy! More smiles this morning, although I was up late last night (unrelated to having fun) and thus up late this morning. I always find that when I weigh a hour or two later than normal, the scales go down...which is what I suspect happened this morning. Tomorrow will tell!
1: 242.8
2: 242.8
3: 242.2
4: 242.8
5: 241.6
6: 241.2
7: 240.8
You're halfway to goal as well...good luck!

I stood on the scale this morning fully expecting to see an increase from yesterday, since I weighed at my normal time today. I was very happy to see no change! So far, August is working out well.

Muffs: Yay! I'm glad August is working well for you. Today, I'm hoping to wash away some extra sodium from the weekend so I can get a good drop this week.

Not as happy this morning, although it had to happen at some point. There's no reason for an increase...so it no doubt means water retention. I'm still happy with my overall progress so far in August. My goal is to lose a pound each week and so far I'm on plan.

Muffs: I think I've been going in the wrong direction, too. Good for you for being willing to get on the scale to find out! I'm going to do that tomorrow morning.
