Well I made it through week 4. Shasha, I was already doing column 2 and fantasizing about column 1, of week 1.

So I am taking today off, totally off. Not doing anything, and tomorrow I have another endurance test. Here are my stats so far:

Week 1: Day 1: as many as possible was 12. Day 2: 7 . Day 3: 15!!!!
Week 2: Day 1: 16. Day 2, 13.
Week 2 redux: 21. 17. 22.
Week 2 the third: day 1: 17. (that's it. I only did one day. )
Week 3: Day 1: 20. Day 2: 22! Day 3: 27. Day 1 (again) 30
Week 4: Day1: 25 (had to reset in the middle). Day 2: 30, Day 3: 33
Endurance test: 34/40
Week 5: Day 1: 33, Day 2: 27, Missed Day 3
Week 5 redux: Day 1: 15 (subtracting 5 from all sets to accommodate my shoulder),
Endurance test:
Week 6:

100 Push-ups!!

Another endurance test, another double try.

For some reason I can not get through the endurance tests on the first try. I think it is mental. I did the test on Saturday afternoon and did 34 push ups. My IRL challenge partner cajoled me into trying again and I got up to 40 that time.
Based on my first results I am doing week 5 column 1. I am limiting myself to the minimum time between sets and hoping that will help me get over the block of doing lots of push-ups in a row. I anticipate doing week 5 a second time on column 2 or 3 (or an additional time for each) but for now I am just plugging away.

So I am still pushing up.

I have been developing pain in my shoulder when I do push ups. on Monday I did about 3 before I had to quit because of the pain. A hot bath and a back massage seems to have helped because I made it through day 2 last night with no pain, just some soreness.

I am thinking I may have gone too fast with this challenge and perhaps I should have spend more weeks on weeks 3 and 4. I will probably remedy that by spending 2 or 3 weeks on week 5. We shall see how my arm and I are feeling when we get to Saturday's endurance test.

Is anyone still with me on this challenge? Hello? Bueller?

Guess not.

Anyway, I tried to do day 3 of week 5 yesterday and I got through about 7 push ups before my arm gave out. I think I am overdoing it with strength training class and fight practice on Wednesday.

I took the day off and I will try again on Saturday.

Hi knobhdy!! I'm still "here" but I've been sitting on my butt, not doing much of anything lately. i'm back on today (that's the plan anyway), and I'll let you know how I'm doing w the challenge after my workout.

You be careful, you can seriously get over use injuries, and that's way worse than not finishing the challenge!!! careful, careful lady! is it your muscles giving out, or joints? that's a lot of stress you're putting on yourself w training and fight practice!

Yay!
My I took Week 5 Day 3 off last week and Sunday I restarted week 5 column 1. It was too much for my shoulder so I ended up subtracting 5 from each set. I felt like such a wimp. But I was able to get through, so I am just going one baby step at a time until I get my shoulder under control.

The good news is it is all muscle, no join pain or anything. But I don't want to stress it and I am doing a lot right now, so if it takes me a few more weeks than planned I am totally cool with that.

Ooo, this is one of my goals. Kind of. If I can do 10 real legit push-ups in a row, that's a life goal complete haha.

Are you guys doing knee girl push-ups or real ones? Cause I can't do one real one yet. No way my arms are supporting that much weight. Been practicing the knee cheat ones and the inclined ones though. Getting better. I'll probably modify this program a bit but this thread is great for accountability!

Go Knob! You're kicking ***.

Hi Jess Welcome.

I am doing knee push ups. I don't think I am cheating at all.

That said, I do think this program could get us to doing (what I call) manly man push ups in no time. I went from being able to do I think 7 push ups total to being able to do 33 after doing almost almost 100 total during the day's sets.

Do what you feel up to. You will be amazed at how many push ups of any kind you can do after a few weeks on the program.

welcome jess! i'm doing knee push ups too

knobhdy, glad that you're not feeling joint pain. muscle pain is A-OK!

i don't get it... i'm feeling weak! I'm stalled! I started to do week 4, column 2, day 1 AGAIN yesterday, and I had to drop it down! I did day 3 of column 1... bah! but my arms feel so shapely today haha, so I guess it's fine, whatever.

Ah, I thought you guys were doing manly push-ups already. I was like HOLY CRAP 33.

I've been doing my own push-up training and chest stuff but I'll take a look at the program next week. I've been practicing on an incline as well (with a step) and it feels lighter but it is actually harder since you're using a smaller muscle group.

Here's to all of us being able to do manly man push-ups soon!

So I had to take a break from the amount of push ups I was doing. Too many in a row made my shoulders hurt.

So I says to myself, "self, if you are doing less push ups each set than proscribed for your week anyway, why not step back a week or 2... or 5."

So there I was Saturday morning doing the initial endurance test for manly man push ups. I did 7. Enough to get me into the second column of week 1. Amazing!

Anyway I have now done week 1 day 1 for manly man push ups. It is hard, but not as hard as I expected. For all my shoulders have been giving me a hard time, they are much stronger than they were in January when I started this challenge. Yeah it sucks to be back at the beginning, but I am kinda excited to do manly man push ups for the challenge.

I'll post stats tomorrow.
