One more thing for Ilene ... I bought a box of red wine yesterday and it made me homesick for you
OMG that is so sweet We did have a great times when you were here... I love that pic you look great!
Spanky -- Menopause is definitely better than peri-menopause... I feel great now...
Well, yesterday DH and I went to Montreal, food wise the day was not primal and I am feeling the effects today, I'm constantly hungry and eating badly ... For supper tonight I'll have to have lots and lots of veggies and protein... But we did a ton of walking in Montreal. I love Montreal, the people are so unique I love to sit and people watch and we did that a couple of times throughout the day... DH went on-line the night before and found a walking tour of a section of Montreal we had never seen.... We had breakfast at a cafe, went to a museum, had a beer in another cafe, walked to Old Montreal, took us 45 mins or so so we had another beer at a cafe we were hungry again by then so we had cranberry nachos OMG the best nachos I've ever had... Then we came home walked to an outdoor concert had a beer there and walked back home... Geez I was tired of walking ... Today I am pooped, I did run/walk for 50 minutes this morning and did some abs too, but other than that I am drained from yesterday...
Just got back from Milwaukee. Yesterday at lunch we were at a mall that did not give me much choose as to what to eat. I got another wrap, ate a little more then half of it & not even a handful of frys. My belly felt bloated for hours afterwards. This morning we had a late breakfast which I went with an omelet & did not eat the Am. fries that came with it.
I have decided to try my hand in running with my son. Tomorow nite will be my 1st run with him. Last time I tried it did not go over very well.
The Carb Flu seems to have returned for a few hours despite no carb increase. Guess it'll take a while. I'd just broiled my first batch of "Organic Beef" and suddenly don't feel good enough to eat. And TIRED.
There's always tomorrow!
I'm posting my weigh in results on Monday--my best to all and to all a Good Night!
Spanky ... road hockey ... if we were playing on ice they would never have asked me to play. I think I had skates on once in about 1991
It was quite hot ... 90-ish. The nurse in me was shooing people into the shade and making sure they drank lots.
We changed the date to earlier in the summer because we usually fry out there in August. Didn't really work very well.
Maybe we should have tried the egg on the sidewalk thing. The kids would have liked that
DH played real hockey later. There's a fabulous "Y" near here that has an icepad year round.
Just went back & read some posts that I missed during the weekend. Hockey sound fun. I never played. DS tried it once & he did pretty good, he got a goal right away.
ANy recipes posted would be great! DS was talking about cutting out junk food & watching what he eats as well. I told him he should go on my diet but he's not too keen on all the fruits & veggies that I have been eating.
I hopped on the scale this morning, it was nice to me. I think all the walking we had done this weekend helped me. I was pretty nervous cuz I ate pizza last nite (not alot) DS told me I should eat some carbs since we will be running tonite. He told me that I should eat some carbs the nite before we run & not eat carbs the rest of the time. I told him I will eat some carbs at dinner time but not any other time, I will see how that makes me feel. I dont know how it will work. If it doesnt work out then I will go back to 50 or less carbs a day.
Hey Tyma: If you go the carb route before running, try to eat sweet potatoes or a starchy veggie rather than grains. I don't eat more carbs on my wkout days but thats me, my body seems to learned to burn my fat for fuel pretty good by now.
So I dropped 4 lbs this week! yay! I ended up with tonsillitis on fri, sat, sun and starting to recover today. I'm finally able to speak again normally and swallow without the agony. I haven't been exactly primal because all I could get down was orange juice and some sugar free jello, but I've made sure I didn't eat any grains or sugar other than what was in the juice and I even limited it. I couldn't believe I was sitting there in misery thinking about how many carbs was in each glass of orange juice I had. I'm being beckoned...
Hey kocean, me too! I actually lost 4 pounds last week, my first week of Primal eating. I know it's probably a lot of fluid, but I'll take it. I don't expect such drama this week but......yippee!

Just delighted. So far so good!

goodbye 4lbs! Its weight, no matter water or what, I'll always take it! CONGRATS!
I've been dealing with some indirect stress, mental health of my brother, physical health of my mother, extreme summer boredom of my daughter. Bah. I am in a groove IF-ing every other day yet feeling plateaued, still happy to wait to weigh. I'm also finding the appetite control of calorie restriction combined with the satiety of primal eating has pretty much killed any desire for food. I'm fasting 36 hours without a single craving, just some thirst. I have to convince myself to eat. I feel great though. My mom really is an incredible Italian cook, very old school, very authentic, surprisingly primal. She made her meat sauce yesterday with rigatoni, but instead I steamed some zucchini and made zucchetti. It is really good. All I ate yesterday was a couple bowls of that and a couple slices of smoked pork leftover from the weekend, and a decent amount of yogurt and strawberries. So my total calories for the past three days (2 of them IFs), is about 1200. Um, crazy as it sounds, I am just not hungry.
This is a touch involved but here's the Mega Omega 3 Caesar's Salad:
You need a small cookie sheet and two large bowls.
Roughly chop one bunch of spinach, half a head of romaine and two omega3 hard boiled eggs. Grate 4 oz. of any omega 3 cheddar (grass fed is fine if you want to spend the $, but there's plenty of 03 cheese on the market now). Toss all together, cover with moist paper towel and refrigerate.
Mix 4 oz. of chopped walnuts with one 7.5 oz can of salmon and 1/2 cup parmesan cheese. Spread thinly on a cookie sheet and gently heat at 225 degrees until the rest of the salad is ready. A pie pan will work fine. This tops the salad when complete.
Put the below into a processor and mix until everything is chopped, but just before becoming a smooth paste.
1 clove garlic
2 sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil
8 smoked anchovy fillets
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
5 sprigs chopped parsely
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
Juice and zest of 1/2 lemon
splash of balsamic vinegar
splash of red wine vinegar
In a large salad bowl whisk the following until you have a creamy texture
This is like making mayo, so whip the eggs first, and very slowly add the oil. A broken mayo texture is fine though.
Coddled eggs are placed in warm water, brought to a boil and removed in one minute. They will not be cooked, but they will emulsify with the oil much easer.
Now add the paste to the emulsification and whip until the dressing clings to the sides of the bowl. Dump in the lettuce mixture and toss until nicely coated. Top with toasted walnuts/salmon/parm mixture. Eat.
A chiffonade of cabbage is actually my favorite pasta replacement. Lightly salted and sauteed in butter, to me anyway, it's an improvement on that tasteless slimy wheat based stuff.
Tymaboy--go you!. I really miss running [had a failed foot reconstruction and have never even attempted it since...].
Bob-- How to you slice the cabbage so finely--in a chopper machine thing or just patiently with a knife? I'd like to try that. I've used spaghetti squash in place of pasta too.
I spent part of the evening on the MDA site researching the "Lift something" aspect of this program. Found a great thread about a guy who used SimpleFit for his workout and had some amazing before and after pix. The workout uses body weight and you don' need machines or weights. I may use it as part of my weights routine, it is so simple. If anyone is curious, here's the link:
