I ended up at 1590 cals yesterday. Plan was 1420. Oh well. That was close enough. I was starving. I walked for 46 minutes.

Today's plan is 1510. We'll see. No time for exercise today because I have to watch our premiere in the world cup!

I have a couple questions with Fitday. Which area do I click on once I'm signed on to see what they figure my daily calorie intake should be? The other question is, the figure they give me, am I supposed to subtract 1000 from that total to lose 2 pounds per week, and then add my calories from exercise back in? I'm so confused with this whole thing???

am I supposed to subtract 1000 from that total to lose 2 pounds per week? No, if you subract 1000 cals from whatever you were eating before....

then add my calories from exercise back in .... no, you can use those as a minus. for instance say you eat 500 cals less and move 200 cals more, you'll have a deficit (from your normal) of 700 cals.

Ask more, we'll help you.

SUSAN --- The reason why I asked if I could click on something once I'm signed in to see the calorie range they would assign me is because I forgot the range they originally gave me. I'm sorry I keep asking questions, but this is very confusing to me; anything to do with math just gets to me sometimes.

Hi Blyn!

Michelle, quit apologizing. I like to help really I do Let me know if I sound condescending, I don't mean to.

Did they give you a range? Hmmm .... I don't remember back that far. Your version could be different from my online one. Maybe that's it.

Let me scan back in this thread and see if you've ever mentioned it.

Hey Everyone! So I had my week 4 weigh-in today! (I'm calorie counting and trying to get some exercise in - swimming.) And I've lost 10pds in 4 weeks! Just this morning I lost 5 for the week! So, needless to say, I've had a great morning so far, lol.
Have a good day, and stay on track!

SUSAN --- I do have the same version as you do, not the PC version. I know when I first signed up with Fitday, they gave me a calorie amount to start with and I can't remember if it was 2200 or 2400, but I thought that was way too high to lose weight with. I guess I just need to pick a range to start with and try it.

SUSAN --- I erased everything I had input because I got a little frustrated and started writing everything down on my own. I have been going between 1500-1600 range, but not sure if this is too low or too high for me?

Just click on the "activities" tab. It shows you what fitday thinks you burned today, including your exercise, if any. In the "Calories burned today" box, it shows all calories you've burned. "Basal" is the calories you burn just by being alive. "Lifestyle" is the calories you burn through doing normal day activities (sitting up, walking to the next room, typing, etc.) And "activities" is any additional exercise you did.

The one problem with fitday, as a number of members of 3FC seem to agree, is that it tends to overestimate how many calories you burn. So be aware of that.

The easiest way to see how you're doing (without any math!) is to click over to "reports" and "Am I burning the calories I eat?" It'll show you how much you ate per day vs. how much you burned per day. If you burn significantly more than you eat, you'll lose weight!

Michelle,
This is the math that I do:
One lbs= 3500 calories
If you want to lose a little over one lbs a week you want to keep it between 1200 and 1500... But as long as you eat less than you burn you will lose weight! But do not go under 1200cal or your metabolism will go in starvation mode and you will not lose weight at all!

Hi ladies!

Deficit of 602 yesterday, feeling pretty good about that. Bucked up the courage to weigh myself last night and have NOT gained any weight (or if I did I lost it again after 2 days of good eating). I am quite relieved, I had really started to fear I was packing them on again but looks like I have another chance to try again.

Michelle, the way most of us figured out how many calories our bodies REALLY burn is through trial and error. If you know how many you're eating, you get that average for say a month, and know how many lbs you've lost in a month, you can do backwards back to figure out your daily calories consumed in an average month. My Fitday's "basal" number I think is closely accurate to my daily life w/o exercise (I work a desk job, I don't do a lot of activity naturally unless I add it in) so I add exercise to my basal to get calories burned. It's probably not exact, but what is? I need more than the scale to keep my going. Good luck and glad to see you here
