How are wedding plans coming?? We have graduation next month and then a anv party in june..lots of reasons for me to get the weight off!!
hugs
Hi Dgramie. The baby is so sweet. He just had his 6 week check up and has gained quite a bit since his birth weight. He was 7 lb 7 oz at birth and yesterday he weighed 11 pounds right on the button. DIL was worried he wasn't eating enough, ha, ha. First baby for sure. The doctor was quite pleased with his progress. He is just starting to smile for real and stays awake for most of the day with little naps in between and sleeps most of the night with a couple of short feedings to break up the monotony of his parents nights. We have a webcam so we do get to see him but it's not the same as holding the darling.
The wedding plans are coming right along except I'm all out of ribbon and couldn't get what I wanted last time I was in town. Time to try another town. DS's MIL-to-be is finally starting to look for her mother-of-the-bride outfit so I'll soon have some idea what she will be wearing. She's wearing pants for sure so I know I'll probably go with some kind of pants or less formal dress. I found a gorgeous dress a couple of weeks ago but there was only one in the store and I need one size larger. It was a cotton dress with a cinched waist and little cap sleeves and a plunging v-neck (but not too plunging). The material had enough structure to it that it didn't cling and show up the lumps, bumps and rolls that need to be camouflaged and it was fully lined too. It was an olive green or drab green with little darker green flowers embroidered all over. It was definitely perfect whether the MOTB wore pants or a dress as it was dressy enough but not overbearing to outshine the MOTB. Alas, it was full price and too much to buy hoping I'd fit into it by July. The store will have more dresses and other outfits in this week I believe so now I have to find a time to shop by myself so I can have another good look.
You sound like you've got quite a busy social life coming up this summer. I see you've changed your avatar from the gorgeous grandma back to the chicken. Ha, ha. But that 90 pounds lost sign is very impressive. I put on a little weight but not sure how much. I couldn't bear to look at the scales gone up so I'm waiting until this Saturday after a good week (I hope). So far I'm on track. Even remembered to take my vitamins!
Just got back from the doctors for my cholesterol & thyroid blood test. Results will be back in a few days.
I still can't exercise because of last weeks leg episode .So I really have to rely on portion control in my meals.
DGRAMIE-I like my Monday W-I its keeps me accountable on the weekends. You lost 2 lbs congrats for that why are you so upset???? Maybe it sodium did you eat anything salty, that's the first thing that come to my mind when a gain happens to me.
AMY-Welcome to the thread and congrats on the 50 lost and never gaining it back.that excellent. I never heard off the 90/10 plan before.I guess I will have to investigate it further.Yeah!! That's way happens after having children,my DD finds it harder to keep the weight off, comparing to before.Hows the Belly Fat Diet working for you??? That the prevention diet, correct???I was thinking about doing it ,but than decided not to as I didn't like the foods that you had on that program.
PRINNY-Sorry about being up again. When you W-I every day you should forget the daily reading and just average it out at the end of the week. Maybe take some lemon or lemon juice in your water as the lemon is a dietetic and You might lose the faster.
RETIRE-Congrats on the new baby and I've been there,it so sad to see your grand kids go,mine were here last Tues - Fri and I still miss them.I trying to go back on program myself as I jsut had a .5 loss this week, need the number going down again.
Have to go and start my dinner, will come back this afternoon
Maryann, I like the Flat Belly Diet (yes, it's also the Prevention diet). I needed something that was structured enough to get me back on a diet but that worked with my preferences. I like the idea of eating smaller amounts more frequently, and the book pushes for that. And I love avacados, dark chocolate, almonds, hummus, etc. If you do not like these kinds of foods, then honestly, I'm not sure it's the diet for you because you are supposed to eat something like this with each meal. I have modified it though, as I said, to be more of a calorie counting plan. I'm aiming for 1600 calories a day (like the diet does) but rather than eating 4, 400 calorie meals each day, I do something more like this:
Breakfast-400 calories (2 eggs, English muffin, EVOO, coffee w/milk and splenda)
Snack-150 (Almonds)
Lunch-250 (Lean Cuisine, diet coke)
Snack-140-180 (Meal bar)
Dinner-400 (varies)
Snack-200 (dark chocolate, or wine, or light beer with popcorn)
So adding the almonds, dark chocolate, and EVOO are the parts that I consider to be inspired by the diet, and I do look to the book for recipes whenever I can (especially dinner) because they are pretty good!
So for all of you, have you ever tried to get away from calorie counting? As I mentioned, I've tried everything in the past couple of years and fell into really dangerous territory when I tried the Intuitive Eating type of plans. There are threads here about it. It makes a lot of sense and I'm not knocking those kinds of plans (where you basically eat what you want when you want it, and stop when you're satisfied). For me, this was disastrous. I seriously gained so much weight in the year when I first tried this.
Which leads me to the conclusion I've come to...that I will ALWAYS need to count my calories if I want to lose/maintain weight. Maybe that will become more automatic for me in the future as I become accustomed to real portion sizes again, but my experiences have taught me that this is the only way for me to be able to be successful. And I will need to be accountable, which means jotting down what I'm eating (like the research suggests anyway). And I'm learning that it's okay to diet. There has been such a backlash against the word "diet" (in the weight loss sense, not the general way of life sense) but for me, I'm officially taking it off the dirty word list. Because for me there is no other way. That is the only thing that worked for me in the past and it is annoying to have track every thing I put in my mouth, but I was so much happier with my life overall when I did that because of the effect it had on me.
So, that was my HUGE lightbulb moment last week. Anyone else come to the same conclusion?
2 words: Chemistry lab. Okay that was a joke but I had to make it! Seriously though you might find out if your college has a nutrition or health department and if one of their teachers would be willing to give you advise on the cafeteria food. I hate bothering people when their job isn't to help me but a lot of teachers I know feel so passionately about their subject they would like to help people.
Woke up to a dense fog, hope it clears by the time we leave for Leos Cataract surgery. Got on the scale this morning and I'm down 1.5 but it only a total since I average out my weight loss at the end of the week.
AMY-Prevention always send me some e-mails about the belly fat diet, but as I told you before I don't like the foods that you must eat along with a healthy diet. The only thing I like is the dk chocolate, and what that sassy water all about. I tried to use lemon & ground ginger in the water and it taste horrible.
So your breakfast & dinner are the highest calories meals, I have switched my lunch & dinner time around since last Sept. at noon I have my dinner and 5, I have supper. I'm using 1300=1500 zigzag calorie range.
MISORA-That a great idea for college students to discuss with their health dept person.
Have a great day will be back some time late afternoon
beach bum- Thanks for reminding me of that trick. I wonder if it would hurt to also put in some lime juice since having both in water or club soda is just so refreshing and would be great in this horrid heat.
Well I got up Tuesday, weighed in and I was a full FOUR POUNDS over where I was a few days ago so I basically decided Tuesday was fired, and I went back to bed. Slept for about 22 hours I only got up to pee a few times and drink water and I watched a Jonathan Creek episode with my husband otherwise slept the rest of the time.
Got up today, weighed myself and I was back to where I should be. I am going to watch my salt today, do the workout I should have done yesterday and hopefully I won't have anymore problems this week because I just CAN'T HANDLE IT. Heat wave + weight issues just cranks up the depression beyond what I can cope with.
Yes, I have issues.
My deadlines just make it worse. Why didn't I start this last year when I had more time? I keep making jokes about the wet/dry shop vac, and they keep seeming less funny.
Hello everyone...I'm new-kinda been lurking for a few weeks. I've really enjoyed reading all of your posts and suggestions. The past three years have been kind of rocky in my life-thus, a 50lb weight gain. I've dedicated my life to raising my four children (and staying married to their dad )-I've pretty much neglected myself for a very long time. A good friend of mine just found out she has breast cancer and starts chemo tomorrow-she and I spent a couple of hours together recently and I had a major lightbulb moment....I cannot keep neglecting myself!! So...here I begin a journey to finding myself again....I look forward to getting to know all of you! Just from reading your posts, I am very inspired
Hello Calorie Counters. Another good day for me. And I just finished riding my bike 17.75 km.
Today I was working on making a wedding veil for DS's fiance. They are ridiculously high priced and have only a few dollars worth of tulle in them. So I found out how to make them and got the go-ahead from the Bride-to-Be. I'll probably finish it tomorrow. I'm going to sew a trim of ribbon around the edge and attach a comb to the top and glue a few rhinestones randomly to the tulle.
Welcome Mom of Four. Glad you've joined us. This is the chat for the calorie counters. As you can tell from reading we talk about lots of stuff here. You'll find lots more help in this section and have a look in the other forums as well. There are age related forums that you may enjoy as well.
I was about the same weight as you when I joined 3FC last year and we're the same height and the same goal! But I'm definitely not in the child bearing age range.
Prinny, I see you've found the "Sleep It Off" diet. Maybe I'll try that someday. There are days I could do that as well.
WTG, Beach on the 1.5. Hope you keep that off for your official weigh in.
After Leo surgery yesterday a follow up of going to this eye doctor this morning for more instructions. My Ankle didn't hurt just by putting a old back brace on. Hope to continue doing this until the ankle heals.
Than Last night my DD calls to tell me that my son is in a hospital in Ohio somewhere, his blood sugar was extremely high the last couple of days, due to his Type 1 diabetes. He doing fine and out of danger they're planning to release him today.
STRESS is certainly hanging around at my house, but I did remember having my adorable grandchildren at our side the week before..So I guess a little rain must fall now and than on all our lives.
Prinny-Glad that I could help. I used to put crystal lite in my water, but I rely on the lemon or lime slices
Have to get ready to drive Leo to the Eye Doctor, will stop in later.
Beach, glad the surgery went well with Leo and your son is on the mend. Now if you could only get that ankle mended.
We had a minor catastrophe at our house today. Mom's lift chair died. The motor went and we had to bodily lift her out of the laid back chair. She's now in the living room in the Lazy Boy chair. DH and his brother are going to take a look at the motor this evening when they get off work. Of course the warranty is off the chair. A new motor is about $200 but well worth it as the chair was almost $1200 and we use it not only as a chair but mom sleeps in it as well as she won't lie down flat. I hope DH can fix the problem. It may only be a lose wire. Keep your fingers crossed.
Im Back ladies! We had an amazing vacation, and Ill do personals first, and give you an update after below!
Prinny - I havent tried any of the other Special K cereals yet, but sure do plan to try some. Warning, the chocolate one WILL get you in trouble! I second the real food over diet food. My husband is a great cook, and he's learned SO many of my favorites in a healthier way, that I hardly ever have real cravings now. Water could be the reason for the 1lb. gain. Make sure you pee it all out again before you W-I!
Beach - Sounds like you had a GREAT time with your DD & GC! Im glad you enjoyed their visit! Thats awful about your ankle. Id go back to the Dr. ASAP! Im sorry you gained, but Im sure it'll come right off! Im anxious to hear about your b/w results. Im glad your husband's surgery went well, and please keep us updated on your son!
Dgramie - Congrats on your 2lb loss, thats wonderful!
Amy - Welcome! Im also a wife & mommy How awesome you have the buddy system with your husband going on! Whats a Kindle? For me, Ive never tried anything other than calorie counting. Before kids I was a size 9. Prior to starting my lifestyle change, after 3 kids and my tubes tied, I was a size 16. My best friend tried to get me to do South Beach, but I knew I couldnt last without any carbs, even for a few days. I thought CC was the best route for me to take, and it was, because Im a size 11/9 in Juniors now, feel better than ever, and unless Im going out to eat somewhere, I now know enough to not even actually count my calories online anymore. Im still losing, so it must be working!
Retire - Glad you got to see your grandson. We live 3-4 hours away from my IL's and they always say how hard it is for them to be away from the kids.
Mom of 4 - Welcome! I could say Im in the exact same boat. After finishing having babies, it was time to raise them, and to do that the best way possible, I had to lose weight. I had to feel good about me, so I could be there for THEM even more. Here I am Just tell yourself you put your dues in, and in the long run, this will benefit them too!!
As for me, we had a wonderful family vacation. We spent 2 days with the Inlaws and I think I did pretty well. The first night we walked for an hour after dinner and I ate well. The second day we walked downtown for about 2 hours, but after dinner I had 2 small slivers of pie (lemon & coconut cream) that my husband's grandma made. The third day we went to Disneyland and walked ALL over from 10am-7pm. I had some dessert from the character lunch we went to, then regretted it, complained, and my husband told me if I mentioned it again he'd stay home tomorrow HA! The fourth day we went to Disneyland again and walked from 9am-6pm. I did great with 1 piece of french toast at the character breakfast. On the way home yesterday, I had half a quesadilla from my husband's favorite mexican place in San Bernadino. It was so good, I didnt regret that. My husband SWEARS we walked at least 7-10 miles each day in Disney, not to mention the walking the first 2 days.
However, after W-I this morning.. I only lost 1lb. I am VERY depressed about this. (I know, shut up Vegas, you didnt gain!) BUIT I was expecting a 3-4lb. loss from all the walking, and am disappointed.
Back to the grind of real exercise and my old eating schedule. I HAVE to get rid of these pounds. I wont stop until I do!!
Thanks for the congrats on the 2lb loss...but its the same 2lbs i gained the week before!!! IM hoping and praying this week the scales will be nicer. I so want to get to my 100lb mark soon.
Its hard when you know you are doing everything right and the weight is so slow coming off.I can tell a difference in my clothing and the way my body feels but i have been really exercising hard.
retire- My granddaughter is starting to really try and talk, jabbering and making all kinds of sounds. She is also able to sit up all by herself.I cant believe time flies so fast!! She is 16lbs now. Your little guy may catch up with her. Glad he is growing and doing great!!
hugs to all
My body needs serious professional help, where can you find a psychiatrist for your butt?
I weighed in today and I was 158.6. Wa-huh? That's like a 5 pound difference since Tuesday. MUST have been water, there is no other explanation! I have learned my lesson, NO fast food AT ALL no matter how desperate you are! It totally jacked my system for DAYS and I didn't even have that many calories. URGH.
I ordered some replacement going out clothes because some of my favorites, which can't be taken in, are simply too large now. A few more pounds and they won't be wearable AT ALL. I also need to take in some of my everyday clothes. My favorite pants almost fell off me as I walked into a restaurant today. Er... yeah. People can guess easily enough the colour of my unmentionables, they do not need confirmation.
I'm back from vacation and it did not go well. I had high hopes but completely ignored all my goals.
Actually we got back Wednesday and I took Thursday to reset myself and get back on track. I drank a ton of water and I'm trying to flush all of that hotel food out!
Plus I'm realizing I need to eat more protien so I think I'm going to start eating veggie omelets for breakfast every day. Do you all eat the whole egg or just the whites? I'd hate to waste half the egg
