March Calorie Counters' Chat

Hi, March is here. Hope everyone has a successful month.

retiredone 03-01-2009 09:13 PM

I didn't do very well in February--too much cake. I kept losing and gaining the same pound all month. So for March I'm hoping to drop at least 5 pounds.

zenor77 03-01-2009 09:15 PM

I really slacked last month, so I'm back to being good this month.

A friend that I routinely have lunch with is doing Body For Life, so now I don't feel like a freak wanting to go somewhere healthy every time we go out. I'm hoping that'll help me stay on track this month. I'm also trying to cut way down on refined sugar and alcohol right now. I'm making DH buy beer that I don't like so that I'm not tempted. :)

retiredone~ I've been fighting with the same 2-3 lbs since January, so I can identify!

retiredone 03-01-2009 09:32 PM

Zenor, it will be good to have a "partner in crime" when you're eating out. I ate well today and DH is taking an interest in losing a few pounds himself so that will help me. Lets determine to rid ourselves of those pesky returning pounds and say good bye to them forever.

prinny 03-02-2009 03:52 AM

March beings with a squishy thud for me. I am sick. I can't workout, and I want to drink 47235472472 calories of juice and chicken soup and not care.

FAIL

beach bum 03-02-2009 09:39 AM

Good Morning Ladies:)

Not a good day, the we're having a ice storm expecting winds from a no'easter some time this afternoon.TG Leo went out to get the staples that we needed. The only thing we're hoping for is for the power to stay on.

I lost 1 pound this morning at W-I.I so happy, as tomorrow I can report that I lost a total of 3 lbs since I went to the doctors 2 weeks ago.

Now I can move my ticker this week,to read correctly.

RETIRE-I feel like you do about February,Its was as bad month for me weight wise. I hope to lose, shortly now that the doctor is going to work with me.Thanks retire for starting us up for March.

ZENOR-That's wonderful that you have a friend that is on a good healthy program, that half the battle. My friends are much older than I and they don't have to worry about their weights as they are all string beans. Me I have to watch, and now going to be under doctor care. I'm lucky my DH give up beer years ago, doesn't have the taste for it anymore.

PRINNY-Sorry that your sick, but you should think about eating fruits instead of juice and make use that you look at labels for sodium in the soups.Hope you have a better month that you did in Feb.

Have to go,will be back later

ladyinweighting 03-02-2009 09:40 AM

Hello Everyone,

I post on the 50+ thread, but am counting calories.

My Feb was pretty good - after a disastrous January, I lost 4+ pounds in Feb & am back on track with my plan.

I try to eat an average of 1100 - 1200 calories/day each week. I am trying to vary between fewer than 1,000 and more than 1,200. I try to average 90 min of exercise/day each week. Varying between 60 and 120 minutes - more on the days I'm eating more.

Lynn

IM BACK!!! The wedding was PERFECT!!! The weather could have been worse but it was spitting ice pellets pretty much the whole day but it didnt stick to the ground...It was beautiful and my daughter was radiant. My granddaughter was perfect and slept thru the whole reception!!! We had a wonderful time and my daughter and new son inlaw are honeymooning in the smoky mountians.I was exhausted yesterday but am coming around today. My body is sore and i am counting the hours of cleaning up and decorating as exercise!!! LOL I worked up a good sweat both times!!
Im up 6lbs on the scales..but I ate !!! IM back OP today and drinking water!! I also am going to exercise this month as spring is coming...We are in the 20 today for highs but 60s later in the week!!

AngelMae 03-02-2009 10:44 AM

Hey ladies!! I had a horrible february too, losing and gaining the same 3lbs over and over. But I am back on track!! I am going to Boston in April and I would like to be at least 15lbs down by then so I have to work my butt off between now and then!!

willow650 03-02-2009 10:59 AM

hi everyone, I'm sorry it seems most had a bad Feb, i hope you all have an awesome March.
today is 2 month from the day i started my new lifestyle of calorie counting and making healthier choices, better portion control. I have lost 20lbs as of this morning, only 20 to go WOOHOO. My birthday is at the end of April, i pray I reach goal by then

Shannonk1222 03-02-2009 12:00 PM

Hey everyone! I had a bad February also until the last week. I am down 6 pounds. Now this is where I normally get than gain it back quickly. One thing that is different is I lost a pound over the weekend :) Normally I gain. I am doing Atkins and still staying under caloires. I must admit, this I can do. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

nicki rose98 03-02-2009 01:21 PM

I did decent in February. Lost a total of 8.5 pounds. Not bad but Vday probably pushed me back a bit. I'm lookin forward to a great March though. Being in ONEderland now has definitely changed my outlook on this losing weight thing. LOL.

On a personal note, my daughter is potty trained now...well almost. I have been trying and trying and all of a sudden this weekend it was like a switch flipped. Amazing!!!

retire Good luck with your 5 pound goal. You can do it!!!

zenor I'm SO glad you found someone you can have lunch with who has the same goals you do. That will make enjoying your lunch without guilt or temptation easier.

prinny Aw, feel better!

beach Congratulations on your loss!!!!!

lady Good luck on your goals this month!

dgramie I'm so happy the wedding went well. Congratulations on your new SIL. LOL. I'm glad to see you back OP but glad that you enjoyed the wedding all the same

Congrats on the lbs lost last month.

bigger congrats on the potty training. I do rmember those days. None of my kids trained before 3. They just had zero interest in it.

dgramie 03-02-2009 02:01 PM

i run an inhome daycare and last week I worked with the youngest child who is 2 1/2 and he had the flip switch also. he is even staying dry at naps and all night long. Today i started on the oldest one I keep she will be 3 next week and she is doing ok so far...If she continues i will have all 3 in reg underwear in no time.
Its amazing how that flip switches when they are finally ready!!!

Phyxius79 03-02-2009 03:46 PM

I am sorry to hear about those of who struggled thru February. At least it was only a 28 day month!!! In March we get three more days to meet our goals!!!

February was my first month of calorie counting and exercising. I lost 9 lbs and I feel GREAT! My birthday is March 26th so I am looking forward to maybe a little b-day shopping for some spring shirts, etc. My goal is at least 8 lbs a month so I hope I can reach that for my birthday but if not I have 5 more days after my b-day to reach the goal for the month. I really would like to lose 10lbs by my b-day but I am trying to not set myself up for too much failure. I am a veggie hater also so I am trying to include more of them in my diet in a slow pace so I don't get too disgusted.

I think March is gonna be good. The snow is gonna start melting, the time changes so we get more daylight at the end of the day, my horses are sheading so that is a workout brushing them, and before we know it March will be over too and we will all feel even better about ourselves because we didn't quit!!!

momof4under5 03-02-2009 05:01 PM

I didn't gain or lose in Feb. So thats not a ggod or bad month...lol. BUT on a bad not we bought a digital scale and it says I am 10lbs heavier than the regular scale. When my last digital scale broke and I switched to the regular one it said I dropped a lot of wieght.. SO i think the digital scale is more accurate since is the closest to the drs. Its ok its a new month and I am leanring more and more about ccounting so I think this month will go well since I want to lose weight for the beach. I have to get back out of my snacking junk moods because I have been wanted junk but dont have any in the house so I cant eat it. It would be great though if I didn't even want it!!

Nicki-one of my dd is going to be 3 in May and she is finally potty trained she would do it if she had undies on but if she had a diaper or pull up on she would go in them instead of the potty. But she is doing well.... I am gonna try to get the bed up tonight cause the 18month keeps crawling out I think cause her siblings taught her!!!
ok catch you all lata

retiredone 03-02-2009 05:36 PM

Hi everyone and welcome to the new people joining in the chat. A special "Hello" to Lynn from the 50+ threads.

Dgramie, we want a few pictures now that everything is over. Remember you had that lovely new dress we all wanted to see. So glad the wedding was a huge success and so perfect.

Our next big date is March 19 when our little grandchild is supposed to be born. Our DIL phoned me yesterday and asked me if I was getting excited because she said she was. Ha, ha. Of course we're excited. Wish we could be nearer. In May we'll have mom's 92nd birthday open house and family party and then in July DS's wedding. So it looks as if every second month will bring a celebration of some kind or another. And on a sad note we'll probably have a funeral this month also. My FIL is dying and the family will probably take him off life support this coming weekend.

A big congratulations to you gals who actually did well in February. I am in awe of your weight loss. I have a good feeling about March, though and things are going well so far for me.

Shannonk1222 03-03-2009 09:27 AM

Good morning everyone! I am so ready to say goodbye to the 160s! Hopefully I can by the end of the week. Day 6 on Atkins and down 9 pounds and feel great and full of energy. I go for another fitting tomorrow for my wedding dress os I am super excited!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait. Going to marry the man of my dreams! I will miss you all on the honeymoon! You still have about a week and a half of putting up with me :)

skinnynene 03-03-2009 12:06 PM

Hello. Glad to read about everybody's Feb...well, glad I'm not the only one who had a blah Feb. But it's March...spring is coming and it just seems like a great month already!!

Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions of ways to track my cals. I decided to just do it the old fashioned way with a calorie counter book and pen and paper. Does anybody track the cals burned during exercise as part of their daily cals? A lot of the websites add them in as negative amounts so that you can eat more that day.

Just wondering what everybody else does about that. Have a great day!!!

dwarfie 03-03-2009 12:16 PM

hi everyone, i'm a newbie. looking forward to getting to know you all.

i am currently in my 4th week, have lost 4.4 lbs so far.

where can i get a tracker to put in my siggy?

Tina81980 03-03-2009 12:29 PM

Hi everyone. I am 5 days into calorie counting and I am down 1.2 pounds so far, so I am super motivated. I am dreading this month though and worried about not dropping. We have 5 birthdays this month all of which are going to be celebrated in restaurants and then of course 5 cakes and ice cream. I'm not concerned so much about eating off plan I will look up the calories before we go and pre-plan what I will eat, and I hate cake but the ice cream will be my weakness and there will be pressure from some to eat that ice cream.

beach bum 03-03-2009 01:13 PM

Hi Ladies:)

Is it SPRING yet??? According to what I see on the ground we have a combo of snow with ice on top.[1" of snow what 1" of ice on top].Stupid town didn't sand our street and its like a skating ring. Leo wasn't going out this morning too dangerous, but hopes the sun will melt some of the stuff so I can go to the doctors this afternoon.

DGRAMIE=Glad you had a good time at the wedding, now you can relax again.Sorry about your 6 lb gain, but once you get back to CC you'll lose it again.

RETIRE-Oh how beautiful the birth of a baby. Gee March 19 is coming up see. Big congrats going to be a new grandma.Oh how sad that your FIL will never see the baby.Life always give us ups & downs. Praying that he goes peacefully.

SHANNON-Big congrats for getting out of the 160's I've been trying for years to get out of the numerical,Hope my doctor help me do that soon.

NICKIE-Thanks for the congrats,on my weight loss. Hows your DD doing with her potty training????? I used to have to give my DS 25c every time he want. It got expensive after a while.

Got to go,will be back later

Symphony 03-03-2009 01:28 PM

I just started counting calories the last two weeks of February and I've lost 4 pounds so far. I'm going to work hard and hopefully I can lose at least 6 more in the month of March. I'd love to bring my total loss to 10 pounds going into April.

My fiance` and I are going to a concert this Sunday and when I started trying to lose weight, I set a mini-goal that I would be out of the 180's by the time we went. And when I weighed today I was 179! So, I'm pretty happy with my progress so far.

beach bum 03-03-2009 02:47 PM

Hi Ladies:)

I just got home from the doctor's,Leo drove me there. My eyes are fine,he explained why the my eyes are doing that, and that I shouldn't worry.

Now for my food journal and not losing weight. He was happy to see that I lost 2.5 in 2 weeks and said that .5-1 a week is a normal way to lose.Asked him if I should go back to low carbing he said no,just CC with a 1400-1600 range. He looked over all the foods I'm eating and told me that I was eating healthy,my portion sizes were correct. He told me that using a journal helps to see where I went wrong.Asked why I was gaining the same 168-170 for the past month. He told me that I have to stop partying when he saw Super Bowl Sunday on my weight loss chart.

So I guess I will have to except the extra eating when holidays & occasions come up,and plan the best I can to avoid over eating. This month we have St Patrick's Day[corned beef & cabbage and boiled potatoes]April= Easter[NO candy from the EASTER BUNNIE[roast beef, roast potatoes and green beans]Thanks goodness the rest of the year is holiday free until Nov. ,except for Summer BBQ's

That's it,Next month I have a cholesterol blood test ,so maybe he'll ask how I'm doing in the weight dept.

I've been staying mostly on plan the last few days. It's been hard, work has been stressful and that makes me want to eat. I've done okay so far and not given in though. Hopefully, I can keep it up. :dizzy:

dgramie~ We want pictures! I'm glad the wedding went well.

nicky rose98~ Yay on the potty training! My sister was so excited when my niece finally "got it."

dwarfie & tina81980~ :welcome3:

retire~ You sound busy! It's seems like life is always throwing excuses to eat at us, whether it be happy or sad ones. I'm sorry to hear that your FIL is doing poorly.

Well, my lunch hour is almost over, so I best be off. I hope everyone is having a great day!

nicki rose98 03-03-2009 04:01 PM

yup005 03-03-2009 06:47 PM

Feeling great today, although, my legs are shot from a vertical climb up a mountain and cannot do any exercise, but i do feel great. I learned a lot this month from you guys thanks very much
Aloha,

AngelMae 03-03-2009 07:26 PM

Dwarfie- You have to have 30 post and be a member for 30 days to get a ticker? I thinks its either 20 or 30!! But welcome anywho!!

retiredone 03-03-2009 09:15 PM

Oh my, so many new Calorie Counters. WELCOME each one of you. You'll find calorie counting to be one of the best ways to lose weight. It's so flexible.

Well, just to stir up the pot, my DIL phoned today and let us know that the baby will probably be born next Tuesday or Wednesday!!! Baby Boo is ready to come. And FIL will probably be buried that same week. Talk about mixed emotions. He's still alive but the family is making funeral arrangements just as if he had already passed away. My MIL has asked me to sing at the funeral. I'm going to do it but if the baby is born it's going to be hard because I'll be torn as to were I want to be. We'll take off after the funeral to see our new baby if he/she has made an appearance.

I fell into temptation today. Had mom shopping and she wanted a few potato chips. I bought a bag and she ate 2! I was going to stay away from the chips but I popped one in my mouth without thinking and that was all I needed to descend the slippery slope of potato chip heaven (****). I had a few dainty nibbles and then went wild and had several large fistfuls that I stuffed very undaintily into my mouth. I ate lightly of soup for supper. Hope I didn't do too much damage. I haven't gone to fitday yet. That's my next cyber stop tonight.

twilight 03-03-2009 10:37 PM

Hi everyone, I've just started counting calories. I'm on my 5th day, and doing okay. Yesterday I was snowed in and went over a little, also, I'm still working on making better choices at the market.

Hanging out here really helps to keep me motivated!

prinny 03-03-2009 10:46 PM

I felt good enough to cook today, but I don't think I'll be working out for a few more yet. Still caugh like crazy if I exert myself at all. I did manage to make very yummy spicy chicken soup that APPEARS to be very low calorie... if I am figuring correctly.

nicki rose98 03-03-2009 10:58 PM

Today was actually a very good day. I met with Clay, a trainer at my work and he gave me a good list of exercises that work abs, gluts and legs. So I tanned, did 45 min on the elliptical and then came home and did the 30 min ab routine. I feel fantastic!!!!!!!

momof4under5 03-03-2009 11:01 PM

Nicki did you get your toddler bed up yet?? My baby girl was excited but didn't want to stay in there at bed time. But she did fall asleep in it so I guess that is good...LOL

I have to learn to be more steady on Calories and to plan better last night I did plan but didn't stay very well to it. I need to prepare at night for the next day.ok well gonna go catch you all lata

Yeah me and my BF set it up yesterday. I put a thing on her door knob so that she couldn't get out of her room. LOL. She stayed in last night. Fell asleep very quickly today due to no nap so I'll see what happens tonight.

nicki rose98 03-04-2009 11:37 AM

Well no loss but it's okay. As long as I feel like i'm losing inches and as long as people are still noticing i'm okay. LOL. My abs are a little achy today which is awesome! LOL

Buckeye 03-04-2009 11:56 AM

NikkiAfter a 30 min ab workout I would think so! You go girl. The 10 min ab routines are enough to make me sore!

beach bum 03-04-2009 04:45 PM

Hi Ladies:)

Now that I went to the doctors to have my food journal reviewed,I feel better knowing that I doing everything right. Its just a matter of keep up my calorie range of 1400-1600 calories per day.

Going to start exercising & drinking more water on the day that I have a high calories.

SKINNY-I do have a calorie book but I prefer to count my calories I use the WW point system 1pt =50 calories. Round figures. I don't county my exercising points.

DEWARFIE-Welcome to the thread and congrats on your 4.4 weight loss.you're doing terrific.

TINAWelcome also to the board and congrats on your 1.2 loss.GEE!!! That's a lot of birthdays,You must plan either to exercise before & after the occasions.Have 3 bites, according to So. beachers and than stop.Hope that helps.

RETIRE-How exciting I bet you can't wait. for the baby to be born.So sad about the FIL. not being able to see the little one. I agree with you I rather be with the baby's arrival than sing at a funeral.Sorry about your potato chip temptation.the old ad for Lays I bet you can't eat one, comes to mind.

NICKIE-You're doing terrific when you want to ONEderland now I think your body is resting you'll lose again. You might be losing inches.Do your clothes feel looser.

TO ALL THE OTHER NEWBIE THAT I DIDN'T POST TO, WELCOME TO THE CC THREAD

have a great evening ladies

zenor77 03-04-2009 10:06 PM

Well, today was a bust. I didn't do so well on the calories. Tomorrow is another day though.

I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well. Keep up the good work chicks!

momof4under5 03-04-2009 11:01 PM

kinda blah day not bad just like and off day....doing ok keeping close to the range of calories still some things are not good calories but I will get there!!

Ok lata all

prinny 03-05-2009 04:06 AM

Despite being ill I still seem to be losing not going to complain, but I do wish I was well because my muscles are getting that weird hollow feeling they get when they crave exercise. If I exert myself I just end up having a coughing fit.

I wonder how many calories coughing fits burn. LOL.
