Just popping in to say I am still alive. What a weekend and I didn't have any opportunity to get on. I helped DH build a shed on Saturday and then Sunday we went to the beach with the family. Then this morning about 2:00 am we got a phone call that something was wrong with my MIL. They took her to the hospital via ambulance because BIL couldn't get her in the vehicle. They thought heart attack but it was a pin stroke. They did several cat scans and all kinds of test on her and its not good. She is 59 and the health of her brain is that of an 80 year old woman. Then they found nodules on her lungs which will require further investigation. This isn't to much of a shock since she smokes 4 packs a day and eats processed meats almost daily. Plus most everything she cooks is unhealthy with lots of grease. They want her to do a stress test but she doesn't have full function of her left leg and arm so they will have to wait until that is better and besides she won't get far since she huffs and puffs just to walk.

I wasn't an angel this weekend on food but I am getting closer to being good. I know that sounds odd but I am trying to have a perfect weekend little by little. Just dinner left to get down and snacking after dinner.

Theresa ~ It was so gradual that I didn't really notice a huge difference when I lost the weight. I do have more energy and this weekend I had to carry DGS a long time. He weighs about 20 lbs and was laying on the front of me asleep. I told DH I can't believe I lost 40 lbs and used to carry it. I said no wonder I was always tired. Carrying DGS slowed my walking and it took a lot of effort.

The last time I bought bra's DH wasn't with me and I bought the wrong size. HEHEHE! I keep forgetting I am no longer 42 inches around I am 40. So they fit for a little while but I need to get new.

I was a little bummed. I didn't realize that they only weigh you once a month at Curves. Oh well, at least it should be a nice loss. I won't weight until around the 4th.

Well I am going to submit this and keep reading.

GrammyL 06-11-2007 03:28 PM

:welcome: To all the newbies and look forward to getting to know you.

Tinky ~ I never heard of Krispy Kreme's until this year. Here in Michigan its all Little Debbies.

Yep for all those of you who were having sugar problems this weekend I am on that band wagon. I need to get these sugar cravings under control. never had them until about a year ago and now its getting out of hand.

Went to Curves, the tanner and for a walk so far and may for another walk later. I am off today so I can rest after a night at the hospital.

I better get going as I am getting sleepy again so it must be nap thirty. HEHEHE!

Talk at you all tomorrow.

Meg1989 06-11-2007 04:10 PM

It's so hott out this last week its so hard to push myself to get out and walk but today i put my shoes on and pushed my butt out the door and i went for an hour long walk today...I'm really sunburnt but maybe I'll tan :)

Clairinator 06-11-2007 07:38 PM

Yaaay! Congrats, Tinky! That's so exciting :)!!

I was glad when I jumped on the scale today, and found out I still lost weight even though I hadn't been eating so well!

And RocknRoll, your exercise/food deficit and weight loss is really encouraging me to go jogging again..and I needed that, thanks! Wow, a European vacation where most people lose weight? Where do I sign up, lol?!

Petra6998 06-11-2007 08:32 PM

Hi everyone!!! Welcome to all the new people!!! I have found that calorie counting is great!! Once you do it for a couple of weeks it seems natural!!

I think that TOM is coming....I have been hungrier lately and noticed that I am eating more. Not bad but enough to really just maintain. I have been bouncing between 142 and 140 for the past week. So this week I am going to have to stick to it again and get down these last few pounds!! Hopefully I will be able to get some exercise in this week. That is something that I have really been slacking on.
Well DD is out practicing softball so I better go check and make sure everything is going ok.
Mary

zenor77 06-11-2007 09:38 PM

Calories for today (after the two cookies I'm going to go eat in a moment)~ 1514

Fiber~ 39 grams

Meg~ Walking 2 miles is great! I walk 1.5 miles on my lunch hour (after liberally applying sunscreen! Lol.) Congrats on going for your walk even though it was hot! Oh, on the subject of fruit, did you know 15 grapes (1/2 cup) is a serving? I was so amazed at what is considered a serving when I started calorie counting. I think grapes are higher in calories due to the sugar content and bananas are a starchy fruit, so... I actually hunt out small bananas when I'm grocery shopping, it's easier than cutting big ones in half (they brown easily. Yuck.)

Grammy~ You had to mention Little Debbie! Lol! TOM is definitely coming because my mouth is watering at the thought of Little Debbie cakes... I haven't had one in years and I will be trying really hard to stay away from buying them. ;)

Littlered~ You crack me up! We all need to find our motivation where we can, right? Right! I'm glad your dd is doing so well too. Keep up the good work!

Gotta go, cookies are calling my name...

AnneA 06-11-2007 10:22 PM

Question about calories for the day. I'm using CalorieKing which automatically subtracts the calories burned (or "burnt" as they say) from the total number you've eaten for the day. My question is, do you all look at it that way? Calories eaten minus calories burned? Or do you just try to stick to a set number of calories per day?

Here's what I did today:
Calories eaten - 1544
Calories burned - 244
Total calories - 1299

I think I'm going to just try to stay around 1400 - 1500 calories per day regardless of the exercise. What do you all think?

CoolMom75 06-11-2007 11:37 PM

Anna, yeah I don't bother too much with subtracting my exercise, but will eat at the higher end of my range if I've worked out and I'm feeling extra hungry.

-------------------

Another 2 pounds down at TOPS weigh-in. I finally moved my ticker down, and was actually 169 this morning. woooohooo!

NurseChef 06-12-2007 06:16 AM

I have a better idea for you... I did this last year and it worked but I'll admit it's a weird one lol...

First off, I don't do well with Chinese at all. It gives me swollen fingers and hands and around my eyes, it's awful. What I was doing was going to the mall and taking my meal with me. My Mom wanted Chinese and hey, you go Mom lol! So.... I git this idea of us doing some mall walking and just getting some activity going. I packed food I wanted to eat and figured I would buy a diet soda or iced tea at the mall. We went to the Cinese restaurant and bought her food to go. I brought some plastic ware, good paper plates and napkins. She ate what she wanted to and I ate my meal without gult. Afterwards, I went mall walking with her and all went well that day. I was in Calif. on a travel nurse assignment.

It's funny how returning back to S. FL. I couldn't stick with it. I have been caving in instead of referring back to new ideas that were working so I say, pack the meal you would be eating and should be eating. Just bring it with you and be stubborn .

Tinky009 06-12-2007 09:48 AM

Good Morning all!

RockNRoll- Hey good to see you again! Have a wonderful time in Europe!

LittleRed- I hear ya on doing it 1 lb at a time. Slow and steady wins the race!

GrammyL- I was wondering where you were, I hope MIL gets better! Well as much as I was wanting to eat sweets, I only get those once in a while cravings...I'm not too big on sweets. Yeah a shocker I know! LOL Everything just sounds so good, but I actually won't touch it. Unless, it was a warm chocolate chip cookie!

Meg- Good for you for walking in the heat, I hate the heat and totally understand.

AnneA- I eat what I eat, and I burn what I burn...if that makes any sense. I played around with my calories. I started off with 1700, then 1650, then 1550, then 1500 and the lowest I've gone was 1350 only because I wasn't very hungry that day. But I do try to keep it within the 1500-1600 range.

CoolMom- Wooohoooooo!!!! Way to go!!!! :carrot:

Well I don't know what was up with me yesterday but I decided to go with a salt overload, so I'm all bloated and stuff! Ugh! I hate that feeling. Guess its all due to my TOM!! Seems like alot of us are dealing with it too! So lots of water today for me! Well I listened to my body for once and took a day of rest for exercise yesterday, it felt good, but I felt like I was missing something. LOL! Well have a great Tuesday. Ugh....it's not Friday yet!?!?!? LOL!

Yup! thats me. slow and steady. Boy, I do wish I could loose as fast as some others. But... I will take. ;)

Boy! wish I did not have a sweet tooth! alas, I do. mmm choc. chip cookies...

Meg- Good for you for walking in the heat, I hate the heat and totally understand.
Ditto. Thats why I get up early to work out. otherwise I won't do it.

That is the same range I have been falling into also. MY fitday ave for last month was mid 1500's. I don't mix what I eat, versus what I burn.
I just do as much as I can, even if its only 15 min. its better than Before march 1st. when I did nothing.

CoolMom- Wooohoooooo!!!! Way to go!!!! :carrot:

That's one good thing about hysterectomys and menapause. I don't have to deal with TOM. its been 17 yrs since I had one. Wow! how did that much time get by me?!!
well girls for now I have to get off to go to my garage and Move my butt.
later.:D

zenor77 06-12-2007 11:10 AM

AnneA~ I'm like everyone else, I don't factor in my calories burned. I eat around 1400-1500 calories most days. How are you doing? Are you still laid out on your back? I wish you a speedy recovery!

Tinky~ Ooh, I hate being bloated (for any reason!) I've been eating WAY more sugar than usual (and a bit more salt too) so I hope I don't have a bad TOM this time. Since cutting back on sugar and salt it's been so much better!

NurseChef~ I always bring my lunch to work! Not just for my waist line, but for frugal reasons too. It does make life easier to not have to think about what you'll be eating at work.

littlered 06-12-2007 11:28 AM

Zenor,
There you go again :)
Now I have to keep working. the gap went up to 3 pounds. LOL.
I was planning to keep working at it anyway! ;)

Oh congrats on the loss:carrot:

music addict 06-12-2007 11:49 AM

AnnaA I read an article in runner's world a little while ago explaining why you should factor in calories burned. They had a good example I can give yout he gist. Basically lets say you work out well for one people almost always overestimate about 30% on how much they have burned. So a normal 400 calories workout is probably closer to 300. Then on top of that you would have burned about 50-100 calories anyways jsut doping your normal activties so only about 200 calories are really extra. They on top of it they say that after exercise for the rest of the day your basal metabolism is decreased for that day because you are more tired so you will be less animate during the day (this effect is more prominent with intensive exercise) so all in all you probably only burn maybe 100 calories extra all day.

I'm not saying exercise is pointless it's very good for. It builds muscle which in the long term makes your metabolism faster, it also makes you more sensitive to hunger horomones so in the future you are less likely to binge, it essential for cardiovascular health and so many other reasons. It just doesn't provide an immediate negative calorie balance like we think it does. Good luck.

AnneA 06-12-2007 12:58 PM

Thanks, CoolMom, Tinky and LittleRed for your input! It's really helping me to understand how to count calories to lose weight. It's a little more complicated than I'd thought (just a little, though) but having all of your input really helps!

Zenor~ I'm doing MUCH better, thanks for asking! I actually walked/ran a little yesterday and I just got off the treadmill (30 mins, incline) a few mintues ago. Hopefully now that I'm able to exercise again, I'll start seeing a drop in my weight.

Music Addict~ I get what you're saying about the idea of exercise not making an "immediate negative calorie balance." I'm just going to stay around 1500 and see what happens!

crafty mommy 06-12-2007 01:59 PM

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is having a good day.

My first diet day was yesterday and was good (I ate 1333 calories; I was aiming for 1350). I feel more energized today even without my coffee and with staying up late with the little one last night! :D I hope that this continues. I don't think that I drank enough water though (about three 12 oz cups), so I need to watch out from now on.

I'm starting my exercising today. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday for 45 minutes each is what I am planning on.

Have a fabulous day Ladies!

CoolMom75 06-12-2007 03:03 PM

I'm cracking up at Littlered keeping up with Zenor's numbers. lol who's my number buddy?? :D

GrammyL 06-12-2007 03:37 PM

Just a quick post.

Zenor ~ Won't mention that stuff again! SORRY!

Tinky ~ You are so lucky not to have a sweat tooth because mine just keeps getting worse and worse. I think I will have to go cold turkey to get it under control again but first I must muster the strength and not up to it right now. I will just make sure I keep it under control.

NurseChef ~ Mine is my feet and hands when I go Chinese. I can literally feel them puffing up while I am eating. Then I get really tired. I know their food can be healthy but I have been avoiding it lately because they have to be putting something in their food. I don't know if its the MSG or what but their food isn't that tasty.

I am going to post this and on to the next page. :-)

GrammyL 06-12-2007 03:44 PM

OK, I guess there were only a couple of posts here this time.

Work has been hectic but I just couldn't help but stop in to see my friends. I think I was missed yesterday.

MIL must not be to worried because they released her from the hospital and she is smoking still. She used to tell me that smoking was her one vice in the world and she is going to do it until she dies. I have the feeling she is going to be true to her word. ARG! BIL is rationing her cigs and not letting her smoke as heavily as she normally does. They are running test for the next couple of days to figure everything out which is scarry. They have places to go help you dry out, recover from drugs, so why don't they have a place to go recover from cigs?

Doing really well so far today. I am actually low on calories as I haven't taken the time to eat all my food because I have been running around with my head chopped off. Good exercise but a little confusing. HAHAHA!

Have to get going and will talk at you all tomorrow.

zenor77 06-12-2007 04:35 PM

Grammy~ No worries! Lol. It's the pms more than anything. My mom always used to buy them because my sister's name is Debbie, she thought it was funny since the girl on the package kinda looks like my sis when she was little. My mother had a massive sweet tooth! I used to joke that you could hand her a spoon and a bag of sugar and she'd just dig in.

Petra6998 06-12-2007 06:58 PM

Hey everyone!! Well I am having a really crappy day and wanted to eat and eat. So I did and I ate tons of pickles!! LOL Don't know what that will do to my weight tomorrow, but I know there is barley any calories in them. We finally got a new manager at work, not the one I wanted. Plus I never even got called for a interview, which really makes me mad. The person they hired has no experience in our field!!! Just makes me mad. Then my computer at work is so slow that it was driving me nuts. So that is why I had a terrible day. And it ain't getting any better here at home. So with that said.... I will talk to yall later!

Hi, Mary,
I am sorry to hear you had such a bad day. That means it will get better in the morning. A new day.

Has you pc at work been clean up lately? you know, cookies, etc.
that helps speed up a pc. to clean it.

As far as the pickles go... I know people who drink pickle juice instead of prune juice. as a laxitive. Hope your ok later.

Little Debbies... might be junk food. But it is good! :D I won't buy things like that now days.
We have a bag of oreo's staring at me... Used them in the ice cream cake. mmm oreos. Nope have not had one! :carrot:Hubby better hide them. or take them to work.

Tinky009 06-12-2007 11:33 PM

Good Evening!!!

Crafty- Yes water can be a bit tricky. If you're in a spot where you can run to the bathroom every 5-10 its ok, but otherwise it's a pain, but necessary. I just try to drink a cup of water every hour I'm at work. Being stuck in traffic..no FUN! LOL

GrammyL- Well the lack of sweet tooth, is nice but when TOM comes OMG....keep anything with sugar away! LOL! I can get into serious trouble.

Petra- I hope you have a better day tomorrow!!!!! ;)

LittleRed- OMG...I remember back in high school, when my friend I were at her house, she would take a glass of ice and fill it up with Pickle Juice...she drank it like water. I was sitting there and staring in amazement. That was her favorite afternoon snack. :dizzy: For her grad present, I got her one of those big huge pickle jars from Costco. LOL!

littlered 06-13-2007 08:21 AM

Calories 1545
fiber 47
water 80 oz. missed 2 of my glasses yesterday.
Its ok.

I am Down 1 more today! Talk about surprised.
Not even waiting to see if it stays off. I have not been fluctuating up at all. (accept this one time last week end.)

I think this waitress thingy at the nursing home is helping!
That and working out most days.

Off to curves.
later

crafty mommy 06-13-2007 09:24 AM

Yesterday, towards the end of the work day, our boss surprised us by saying we're going out to breakfast tomorrow. To Denny's. I'm shuffling some of my calories around, eating my lunch calories for breakfast. I also found their menu online and choose a veggie omelete and english muffin for only 330 calories. Not too bad for my first real world meal.

Tinky - That's too funny. I live near LA so I've totally been the one stuck in traffic, just dying to get to a bathroom.

Gotta go fix my meals for the day. Have a great day everyone!

Tinky009 06-13-2007 12:44 PM

Good Morning everyone..I decided to do a late start, so here I am at home at 9:39.

Craffty- Boy that is one thing I don't really miss about So. Cal. You spend your majority in the car. Though I don't know how it is in San Diego, my parents have since relocated there after I moved out. LOL
Thank goodness for Online nutrition facts! Have a great breakfast.

LittleRed-Way to go girl!!!!! I decided to peak at the scale too, and it went down one, but we'll see...I won't post until I see that for two days in a row. LOL
Yes, I find myself running out breath sometimes when I help serve my residents.

Well haven't plugged in my menu, but will post later. Have a great Hump Day everyone!!!

GrammyL 06-13-2007 01:44 PM

It was a great morning. I talked to my boss and I have to use up at least 18 days of vacation this summer. The way I decided to do it is working half days and taking long weekends. I don't see much use of taking three weeks off because DH has to work and I would get stressed out. I love this working half days thing. I was able to sleep in until :o 7:00 am :o. I set the alarm but I was still tired so I turned it off and went back to sleep. I feel like such a slacker. Then I set my menu for the day, ate breakfast, took DGS (stayed the night) and the dog for a walk and then got my pony out for a short drive. I did it all before the days heat set it. I hate getting the horses out in the heat and making them work. So this great! Plus I have more energy and the weight of the world isn't one me yet. I thank my boss for letting me do it when I got in because it is just a fantastic way to use up all that vacation.

UPDATE ON MIL: I stopped to see her last night and she still doesn't use that hand, just sits and holds it. I never saw her walk so I don't know if she is still dragging her leg or not. The test they ran yesterday showed a 70% blockage on in one carotid artery and the other is at 25%. More tests today before they decide what to do. She said other than the paralysis she feels fine. She is definitely smoking less. Only one in the 45 minutes I was there.

I am down a pound today and like Littlered I am moving my ticker today.

Crafty Mom ~ WTG on looking up and seeing what you can have in advance. Actually what your having sounds yummy to me.

Littlered ~ Glad the nursing home work is helping you. It does help to keep busy. I have a friend that is a twig that is a sugar hound. That is about all she eats is sweets, OH and pizza but once slice and she is full. Toaster Struddles are her favorite food on earth.

Petra ~ BIG HUGS . The same type of thing almost happened to me at work and I told them if they hired someone else to do the job I already knew how to do I would not train the person that took the position. I also told them I was looking to advance and if I didn't advance in this department then I would move up in another department. I was hired. There was no way I was going to train someone else for a position that I was qualified for and must be I was firm enough that they knew I was serious. This is not a department that you can just walk in off the street and know how to do it and the University doesn't allow overlap training periods. Better that you ate pickles than something else.

Oh the pickle juice stories are so yucky. I am not a huge pickle fan so it makes my tummy roll because I had cousins that used to fight over who got to drink the pickle juice. It just makes my tummy roll to think about it. They are low in calories but the salt, YICKS!

Yesterdays Menu:

Breakfast: Chik Patty, 2 slices ww light bread
Snack: 1 Laughing Cow, 2 Tbsp ff hummus, 2 light wasa
Lunch: Smart One Chicken Meal (forget type), Salad, Chocolate Drizzles
Snack: 1 Laughing Cow, 2 Tbsp ff hummus, 2 light wasa
Dinner: Smart One Lasagna, Bell Pepper Salad, Healthy Choice Fudge bar
Snack: 100 Cal pack popcorn, 2 turkey franks

Calories: 1440

I think I am going to be around 1200 calories today which is really low for me. I didn't take the time to eat my morning snack and I forgot my pudding for my lunch. I will still be in a good, safe range.

I better get going because I am only working 4 hours and I need to squeeze in 8 hours worth of work. HAHAHAHA! Just kidding, I am not going to work at top speed to get things done. It will be here tomorrow.

Meg1989 06-13-2007 03:21 PM

HI everyone....good afternoon..... Tinky, how is that Kashi go lean crunch? I just bought some but it doesnt look that appealing....

Well, I have to say i love this calorie counting thing its working so well.....I'll get back on later bye

Tinky009 06-13-2007 06:13 PM

Meg- Kashi Go Lean Crunch is a pretty good cereal! Its a great source of Fiber, but very very Crunchy! LOL I usually eat it with cut up strawberries, or a banana.

GrammyL- Glad to see that MIL is making a bit of progress, but her carotid blockage is definitely scary. On a much lighter note, great job to you for going down another lb!! Woohoo....you and I have about the same numbers.
LOL about the pickle juice though, I really can't look at my pickle jar the same. And half days at work are definitely fun! I love to go home when everyone else is not.

Well I skipped my first snack, I got up late, and everything else is late.....
but here's my menu and calories for today:

B- Kashi Go Lean Crunch with strawberries, and skim milk
S-skipped it
L- salad with imitation crab, and a boiled egg, and barely soup
S- Kashi Trail Mix bar, an orange, string cheese
D-Lean Cuisine Santa Fe Chicken beans and rice, with 1 cup of broccoli and cauliflower
S- cherries

1440 calories today

Petra6998 06-13-2007 09:09 PM

Thanks everyone for the hugs and well wishes!! I have decide to go into it with a open mind, but I am still not going to show/teach the manager anything. Not my job too.

I love pickles. I love to drink the juice!! LOL I always have loved them. When I was little my parents owned a restaurant and we used to get the hambruger pickles in a big 5 gallon bucket, well I would sit next to them and keep filling up my bowl. I am sure the sodium in them will kill me, but it is really the only vegetable that I eat. I am a VERY picky eater.

Calories today were good. Not as many pickles as yesterday, only 2 spears today. Didn't get any exercise today. DD had a softball game and now I have been reading and watching stuff about JR going to Hendricks, lol... What can I say NASCAR is my passion, lol. Well everyone have a great day.

Oh and Granny- You lucky dog, half days? I wish I could do that, lol. Good for you!!!

Calories for today~ 1437
Fiber~ 41 grams

Grammy~ Half days are great! Have fun with all the extra time off! I hope that your MIL ends up okay! It's good that she's smoking less!

Petra~ I agree that it is not your job to train them, but I think it's good you are keeping a good attitude.

Littlered & Grammy~ :cheer: Woohoo! Congrats to both of you on your scale victories!

Since we are on the subject of pickles... There is a Deli in the town my sister lives in that has THE BEST brined pickles!!! Anytime we go visit, I have to buy pounds of them. It's always a challenge to get home without eating them all! I'd never thought to drink the juice, but I did marinate pork chops in pickle juice once (Yum!) It's my belief that if you pickle it, I will probably eat it! I love fermented foods too! Saurkraut, kim chi, miso, etc.

We are moving in less than 2 weeks and the house is not even close to being packed. My husband is down in the new place today looking for a short-term apartment. We hope to get on the road to buying our first house as soon as we arrive there!

CJC- Thank you!! It hasn't been easy, but glad to leave the 90's! LOL! SO good to hear from you! Moving is NO fun at all. How are the little ones?

Zenor- Mmmmmm kimchi and miso also my two favorites! Though with Kimchi, the taste stays in your mouth for a while! LOL

Petra- You shouldn't have to train or teach. But glad that you're keeping your head up. It's hard at times.

Hi everyone,

I see some of you eat the Kashi Go Lean crunch. Have you tried anything else? I haven't yet but after tasting this and loving it I am going back for other things and trying them.

Good morning Ladies! I hope that you are all doing well. I lost my first pound. Yay me! :dancer: I know one pound isn't a lot but it's my start, so I am very happy (of course, my husband has lost 3 pounds so far, but I figured he would lose faster than me anyway. I can't feel bad about it. He didn't want to tell me this morning because he didn't want me to be discouraged. ).

Do you ladies reward yourself when you reach a short term goal? I don't think I'll do it with food rewards; I was thinking of buying myself a nice shirt or something from Michael's. A little something that says, "yay! Way to go!" to myself. ;)

There's a lot of pickle talk. I LOVE pickled stuff. It's the taste of the vinegar. It's so good. My mom used to get upset when I was younger because I would eat an entire pickle jar in a couple of days. So she started pickling cucumbers at home. I would have big bowls of pickled cucumbers (with water, salt, sugar, vinegar, and onions). They were soooo good.

Just saying Hi. Been on my June weight loss goal (the ticker) for a week now and I havn't weighed myself yet so I'm going to do it tonight. See how I do. I've been eating 1400 calories day and doing 400 calories exercise so I'm hope to at least notice a change so far. *fingers crossed* I don't know if that little weight loss will show up yet and well yeah I screw up on friday had about 10 oz. of wine and the next thing I knew I was chowing down on crackers and cheese. Gah! Oh well other than that day it's good.

It's soo hot here now it was nearly a 100 degrees yesterday. I've been wearing shorts lately and I keep looking at my legs and I've noticed I have stretch marks from gaining weight. I think It's because I basically starves for 4 weeks before I went to Cuba on spring break and I dropped 20 lbs but they after they rebounded back so fast. I mean on the beach all-inclusive resort drinking margahita and unlimited food BAD IDEA! Haha well I hope I can lose 20 this time again except slower so I can keep it off. Cheers everone hope you have a good day.
