Hey everyone!
I hope y'all had a great night and are having a wonderful day! Last night I kicked my own butt at the gym and walking at work...I have the sorest calves ever! I agree with Smurf...all this exercising is what is keeping us from being the winning team, but Blue and Red better watch out, we are all going to show BIG losses at the same time!!

Food I can't say no to:
Mexican, especially carne asada fries...MMM!

Habit I have kicked:
I traded smoking for lunch time walks. I also traded diet sodas for bottled water. The only time I drink soda now is when I go out to eat. I don't even have soda in my apartment! I used to drink 3-6 soda a day and 0-1 water a day. Now I drink 0-1 sodas and 4-6 waters! I can see such a difference in my skin since that happened as well.

Well, I am feeling all this working out, but can't skip the gym if I want to make it to Spain (Beach Hopping), so I am going to go easy on myself today. After work my bf is insisting on going to McDonalds b/c they are giving away free Southern Chicken sandwiches. I am going to give him mine and get a grilled chicken salad and a light lemonade. Then I have got to get going on my homework. I also have an appt at DMV tomorrow for the laws test to get my driving permit. Yes, I am almost 30 and don't know how to drive...LONG STORY! And my Quant Methods homework, which I haven't started, is due Saturday night at 11:59pm. I am totally overwhelmed, but I guess I am going to have to suck it up and work through all this. One thing at a time! At least I can't stress eat, I brought my lunch and to be honest, I don't have time to find junk food!!

I hope everyone has a less stressful day than me! I'll check in later!

TTYL--
Misty

Today was a bad day,, I missed my driving license test... :(... It was hard to accept, I just did ONE mistake,, I drove like 10 roundabouts, 9 went very well, but in the bad one I didn't knew If I should go to right or left,, so I missed it all because of that...
Let's hope it goes better my next try...
On the bright side, I think it will be possible for me to reach my goal of losing 10 pounds in may,, I've so far lost 6-7 of them,,

Julia: I know, I love that I don't have to make a big mess and keep a ton of supplies laying around. I have Photoshop, so I use that but I download stuff from all the sites. I haven't done anything in a while, though. Now that school is coming to an end, I will get back to it.

blueyeddlvrgirl: don't feel bad, my hubby is going to be 32 in June and still just has his permit. He's always lived in the city and just hasn't bothered since there is public transportation.

Hi everyone else! Today is my last final and I am so excited. I took a hard one yesterday but I think my professor will give me a break because he likes me and I'm generally a good student. Today's will be kind of hard, too: it's for my American Lit class, and she is going to give us 10 quotes from any of the 10 books we read this semester and we have to say what book, who said it and explain in a short essay what is so important about the quote. It was hard to study for it because I couldn't go re-read the books. Oh well, it's only 10% of my grade so it's not that big of a deal. Have a good day everyone!

Hey ladies. I am at the library at the moment to check in. Our internet has been down all day and no one can seem to figure out why.... I sent Chellez a message via yahoo messenger via my cell phone (the only internet feature my cell phone lets me use) to let you guys know, but I'm guessing she hasn't gotten the message yet.

I don't have long as the library has a nifty little clock embedded in the screen to tell you how long you have to get your rear end off ...lol. But I wanted to tell you all that I'm here! I'm going to update all my exercise stuff for now.

Have a great evening. if the net isn't up by tomorrow night then I'll hop back over here to the library tomorrow!

I did my second C25K today as the weather cleared up. I hope the weather will stay like this, although they said it's supposed to rain this weekend. :(

My ankle was hurting little bit at the beginning of the run but it became better as time went by. I am not sure why but I am going to look up the position of how to run... sigh. :P

Well, I'm off to do some more workout. ;) I will be back later while at work.

cheetara 05-15-2008 04:39 PM

So, I'm supposed to make Twinkie Banana Pudding for a function tomorrow (lower cal than it sounds). Twinkies come 8 to a pack (need 4 for recipe), and they are INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED. NOOOOOO!!!!

The pudding is to die for, but I'm glad I hate plain Twinkies. Even so, I have to keep reminding me of that so that I don't eat the extras.

Hey Black Team!!!

Okay, a little about me...I am an accountant for a department at a medical school. I prepare budgets, monitor our accounts, approve expenditures, all that fun stuff.

Food I can't say no to: CHOCOLATE; and almost everything my mom cooks.

Habit I've kicked: I drink must less caffeine than I used to. I usually have 1 or 2 cups of coffee in the morning (rather than 5-6 through-out the day) and a rarely drink Diet Cokes any more.

The scale went down 3 more pounds this week. I have to admit, I worked my butt off!

Today, I went out to lunch to Whataburger. I would normally get the chicken tender meal, but today I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich meal--still not great, but a better choice. I looked at the calories & today I had 850 compared to what I used to have---1190. The chicken tender meal was an entire day's calories!!! WOW.

Well, I'm off to work out. Have a great evening.

Hi team,

Just dropping by to say that I'm posting a loss for this week! My exercise for the yesterday and today is going to be gardening and yardwork. I've got lots of landscape planting to do plus its time to use the string mower and do all the trim work again.

 about the Pilates. Are you doing Winsor pilates? I love those DVDs. And they do great things for your body.

Yup, it's the Winsor Pilates I bought years ago and hated them but decided the other day to pull them back out. I seem to have lost the Arms one, which blows because I need some arm work over here! The legs aren't very challenging for me, but that ab one...OMG!

Hi guys!! just stopping in to say good night!!And what a fricken day!! SAt and sunday I have a 24 hour walk yes 24 HOURS! It's relay for life, 10 am sat to 10 am sun... although I will be there 7 am sat and 12 on suun. And will be walking most of the time, we have a tent that we set up, sell water for american cancer society and what not. THis year we even have a dunk tank, so Im SUPER excited!!! :)

Cheree 05-15-2008 09:04 PM

OK, I'm having a hard time keeping up!!! My apologies.

I'm doing well with my exercising, but it's like 100+ here today and we have no air conditioning...luckily I did my exercise video this morning before it got too hot. Maybe I'll sweat out some pounds today!! :D I had a big ole salad for lunch with pretty much low to no calorie veggies, along with some tofu and edamame. It was really good. Lately I've been focusing on vegetables as much as possible - I never have a problem getting in some protein and fruits.

My background is in music. I was a cellist and pianist for many years and a music (orchestra) teacher. Then I was a SAHM (the best career ever!). I went to paralegal school a few years ago and worked in that field for about 6 1/2 years. We moved to California and I've been looking for a job here...so I'm basically unemployed right now but helping my husband with his business some.

Take care all and good luck with our next weigh-in! :carrot:

trooworld 05-15-2008 09:21 PM

Cheetarah: OMG, that sounds killer! I would eat that whole thing (in a past life of course ;) ).

JustForUs: I can't believe you are walking 24 hours, that's amazing! You have some stamina, girl. You'll have to tell us how it went. There is no way in **** I could walk for 24 hours. :)

To all...
Good news! We got the apartment. Now the bad news is that we have to move in June 1st and we don't have any boxes yet, plus I have graduation next Friday with graduation company coming starting this Tuesday and lasting until a week from Monday. :o When oh when am I going to pack??? Did I mention that a friend of mine from LA is coming down to spend a few days with me before she moves to CO? Someone is going to have to help me pack, there is no getting around it. If they are going to be here, they better be ready!!!

Have a good night, everyone!

RealCdn 05-15-2008 09:25 PM

Good day all,

A little story from today that I found interesting. I got a late start this morning (had to drive my mother to the train station as she was going into Toronto for lunch), and so I really only did 30 mins on the treadmill before I really just wanted to have lunch. I kind of sat there doing a back and forth and decided eventually to have the lunch and then swim for 30 mins in the afternoon. I changed into my swimsuit (with the HRM on) and went outside. I did a little watering and since I had my runners on I decided to do a little walking first, then make it up with the swimming afterwards.

Well, I ended up doing the entire 30 mins walking in circles around the pool. If the cat thinks I'm crazy walking on the treadmill I'm not sure what he thought watching me walk around and around in circles. I kept going because I realised that my heart rate was keeping up higher than on the treadmill. It really didn't make sense. I felt like I was walking around the same pace as I do inside, although I thought perhaps I was going a little faster. On the TM I usually walk at 2.5mph with a 5% incline. Some days I'll do really short jogs (like a min) at 4mph, although at the same incline.

Anyway, after I finished I got out the big measuring tape and decided I was doing roughly 33 meters in one circuit (slightly more but I'm rounding down). So I timed myself walking it (20 secs), and the light jog I tried (15 secs). Now, I know I likely didn't maintain that pace (even the slower one) for the entire 30 mins, but still. It didn't feel like a real push. Well, the jog did, but that's mainly because it pushes my heart rate up. So doing the calculations:

3/min x 33m x 60min = 5940m = 3.69 miles
4/min x 33m x 60min = 7920m = 4.92 miles

I seriously cannot walk at 3.5mph on the treadmill, and jogging for a minute at 4mph just about kills me. Yet, I appear to be walking faster in circles on a flat surface. And it was a lovely day out, so why not. According to the HRM I burned more calories doing that for 30 minutes than I did earlier on the treadmill. So, I suspect this means on the nicer days maybe I'll take the walking outside. Tomorrow though it's back to the weights. In a way, I think the HR monitor has helped a lot. It's given me an idea of how I can change up the exercise routine, while still getting the same basic effect. I suspect as long as the weather is nice I'll repeat the outdoors walking in the future. As it gets warmer I'll likely do what I did today, wear my swimsuit so I can take a dip when finished.

Smurf2110 -
I saw a really good number on the scale today, so we'll see how it holds for my usual Sunday weigh-in. I'm going back to my weights program tomorrow so I'm pretty sure Saturday will be up (usually is at least a pound after), but by Sunday it will be lower again.

Trooworld -
I should probably have taken English - I love to read. I just hated having to analyze the books and give the 'right' answers that some teachers were looking for. Although I suspect in the end that my heart belongs to math.

Maryshady -
it's almost impossible to lose every week, even when perfectly on plan. Most women will always have issues with 2 out of 4 weigh-ins every month. I suspect you'll have a good one this week.

Manick - I always think that the mornings after I lift... sore muscles, lots of water. With a very few exceptions I'm always up the next day.

Bette K - it's amazing sometimes where the time goes. I was stunned this week that today is Thursday, and already mid-May.

Tara - love sun chips, well all chips. I sometimes think I do pretty good as my mother keeps a bag in the house to have with her Friday night hamburger. The most I'll do is sometimes take a single chip when she's putting them on her plate. I've managed to avoid taking just a few at other times.

Orthodiva - I do a lot of meals for two, but even so, there are often a lot of single meals in my freezer. Most times we're eating together so I just take out two portions. Tonight though I was only cooking for myself and took out an individual lasagne (made with ground turkey and low-fat cheese). It's a great way to eat well if you have the kitchen to do it. It does take some time on the weekends though (when you may not be there). I can whip up three or four dishes in two days (6 servings each) and end up with up to 24 meals.

Sunback - kind of the same thing I said earlier. You're not going to have a loss every week. It's just more important to have more losses/holding weeks than gain ones.

Purplefirefly - I've had a lot of workouts really hit me the next day. Usually the bad sign is when I start to hurt before I go to bed. I know that the next day is going to be really bad. I agree though, it's a good hurt.

Irishfairy - have a good May 2 4 weekend. The forecast was bad, no surprise, but it looks like it might be better. :)

Julia - same to you! (I'm not sure how many other Canadians are lurking.)

Beth - congrats on avoiding the cravings. I seem to have a handle on mine lately, but who knows how long that will last.

Misty - in the long run, all the exercise is good. Even if it means we aren't losing in the short term, we'll be better off in the end.

Theresia -
I don't even like driving in roundabouts when I'm the passenger. Even though I've now had a license for 26 years, I'm glad we don't have them here. Hope the next try is better.

LondonJulz - hope you get your internet back. I think I'd be lost without mine. I have an always on connection, so I tend to hop on and off all the time.

Cheetara - couldn't you just make a double portion? Just a thought (although probably too late now as you've probably already made it).

JenJen - I have to say that I'm to the point now where I check before I buy anything out. Well, okay, I rarely do it now, but I like being prepared. I'm making a rib dinner for friends on Wednesday and I'm going to work hard to make sure I can have some (even if I eat little during the day!)

Cheree - ouch, that's warm. It was around 70 today and just nice. I did some exercising outside and enjoyed it. As our summer gets warmer I suspect that the basement and the treadmill may be more appealing.

Well everyone, I think that's me for the night. I'm looking forward to going back to my weights in the morning... although afterwards I may not feel the same way. It's mainly new routines so I expect there will be muscles sore that I didn't know I had!

ChopperChick355 05-15-2008 09:29 PM

I agree with you Cheree I to am having a difficult time keeping up lately. Mine is mostly related to work though.
Anyways I wish I was on vacation with you Nixmom, which by the way where are you on vacation at?
Well I have stayed OP for the entire week but weigh in is on Saturday morning then off to a Poker Run on the motorcycles and we are finally going to have some sunshine and upper 70's YEAH!!!!
Well I better head off to bed as I have to get up at 3:30 am for work again tomorrow. =( one good thing is I get off earlier then.

Manick 05-15-2008 10:06 PM

Anne Nice personals! Yes, I am now convinced that muscle soreness must be it on the holding water/scale weight. I have been over my food journals and put them both in WW and the daily plate...yes, I'm a little bit obsessive here... but I REALLY want this to work and little, consistent losses really help keep me motivated. (I mean c'mon body, all I'm asking for is once a week! ;))

Anyway this post is to say, that I find I can always walk faster outside than on the treadmill. Always. My heartrate data walking faster outside is consistent with the levels I get on the treadmill at the lower speed. Not sure why that is, perhaps because the treadmill is so regimented and you don't have the variety of step lengths and ability to make small adjustments and do little jogs or skips that you do outside. When I try 5K on the treadmill I am almost always close to 50 minutes, sometimes longer, and outside I am at 43 minutes now. Anyway, that's my FWIW on that interesting tidbit you posted.
