Well hello all. I don't visit the board that much, but figured I would come in and introduce myself.
I'm Dori, happily married for 4 1/2 years and we have two children. Samuel is 5 and Teresa is 2. I'm a Special Education teacher at a local middle school and I love it. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, yard work, and spending time with family and friends. I've struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember, but I'm determined to lose it this time for good. Today is going pretty good. I've stayed OP and plan on getting some exercise in during my planning. We'll see what happens. |

Its a stormy rainy day here! Slight chance of tornados as well! Had a job interview this morning, currently I run the behavior mod. class room in the school district I work, i interviewed today for the behavioral specialist for the district, which basically means I go from school to school dealing with the behavior problems of the special ed kids. Pay increase! plus mileage pay! Should know by the end of the week if I get the job or not!?! Today is a running day, looks like I will need to go the gym for it if the weather doesnt clear up! Have a good day! |

Good Morning Everyone!
Well, yesterday I worked my butt off at the gym! When I get there all the treadmills were full, so I hopped on a Precor Elliptical...wow, my legs were burning! I chose the variety program, ended up doing most of it at a 13 incline and between 5 and 12 resistance. Let me just say, I didn't know I could sweat that much in 30 mins!! I have to say the Beach Hopping Challenge has really pushed me to workout. I am an overacheiver, so I am extra motivated to get ALL 15 badges. I took a peak at the scale this morning, it said 302.6, so I am already .8 down from Monday. This weigh-in only has from Monday to Friday instead of Friday to Friday b/c I waited a few days to let the TOM water weight mostly go away. This was the first month that TOM didn't cause a gain, just broke even. Julz--I noticed in the Beach Hopping Challenge that you posted Kettleball...What is that? Mugsy--WOW! That is awesome! People that don't get numbers always look at me like I am insane when I tell them that I like Math! Oh well, to each their own!! I have always wanted to learn how to quilt! I had a friend whose grandmother quilted and she made me this quilt that had a pouch on it, you could fold it up and put it in the pouch and it would turn into a pillow. I used that till it finally fell apart. I've always looked for another like it, but have never been able to find one. I have always found quilts to be so beautiful!! Hobbies--Going to concerts and music shows with my bf, we are passionate about music!! I LOVE to read, but just don't have time to, except for school books right now. I love art, but that has also been put on the backburner b/c of school. I used to do charcoals and dry pastels, jewelry making and cross-stitch, but haven't touched any of it in awhile! My newest time consumer has been working out, I have found it to be a great stress reliever and a sleep aid, both of which I desperately needed!! Anyway, I hope that everyone has a wonderful day! I will return again soon! To Do: Work Walk at lunch (55 mins) Go to the gym after work (cardio, back, shoulders, legs) Go to the store (never made it last night) Start Quant Methods Homework (got home at 915pm last night so that didn't happen either) Pack gym bag for tomorrow and figure out what to wear to work tomorrow. |
So weigh in day for me today and sadly the scale only moved 0.4 lbs, BUTBUTBUT I have lost 6.25 inches since 4/23 and 10 inches since 3/24. Technically I am not supposed to measure until next week (only do it once a month) but I was feeling a bit discouraged to only see the .4 loss. I am so glad I did measure because I don't feel as discouraged anymore. I do have more than 7 lbs to loose in the next 3 weeks to reach my goal so hopefully the weight starts dropping with the inches!
My Nosy Question of the Day: What is one food you can't say no to? for me it is ice cream-I  the stuff and cannot turn it down. I am trying now to limit myself to ONE serving rather than 3 and find I can be satisfied with it :) |

ok so thank god it was basically water weight. i re-weighed myself this morning.. down to 187.6 which is only down a total of .8 since the challenge started but at least it's a drop you know?? i was so afraid i was going to go up again this week...
i am busting my hump this week though to stay OP and exercise at least 3x with cardio each day being at least 35 mins to 50 mins... then weights 2 of the 3 days... arms/back then just legs the other day.. i also cut down my calories to 1500 from 1600 to see if that changes anything up.. tonight is horseshoes.. meaning i will be at the bar with the bar food... but i am going to stop by safeway on my way to my moms (the bar is by her house) and get a lean cuisine or something to eat before i go out... i do have enough calories left for my 2 beers/horseshoe night though :D YAY! |
Good afternoon all,
I'm sorry I've been absent, but I'm trying to take advantage of my rest week and working in the garden. Yes, I know that doesn't make much sense, but it's a different kind of pain. :) This afternoon I'm playing catch-up on indoor things (looks like rain) but thought I'd stop in and say hello. I'm going to start another message with some personals, but I might not end up posting that for a while. I'm still very much on track with things, but right now I'm just kind of holding on the weight level. I suspect I'm getting ready to drop a few pounds quickly (often happens after an idling period), but I suspect until I go back to hitting the weights on Friday it's just not going to move much. Hope everyone is having a great, on plan, week! |
Hiya Team!!
Hope everyone is having a great day! I finally exercised last night and took my 1 year old out in the jogging stroller. He thought it was hillarious. I really wanted to go biking but he was NOT in the mood to put on his helmet. Tonight I will take my 3 year old. :) sally- mmmmmm....bar food.......evil, evil!!! ggmugsy - holy crap! how did I miss all that about you last time?????!!!! |
Ceegee - I don't know what got into me . . . I just felt like babbling today, I guess!! Ahhh . . . those 1 year olds. Gotta love them. Good thing they're cute!!
Smurf - You should post the link to your pics for ALL to see!! I LOVE THEM!! :) That one with the fisherman holding his child by the ankles is hilarious. I wish I had some newborn pics like you do. Unfortunately, they weren't doing that sort of thing when I had babies. Just Keep Swimming is correct that your previous quilt is called a Quillow. You may be able to find one you like on eBay! Julz - I want to see some of your pics now!! ReadCdn - Great to see you back. Sexual-Sea-Monkey!! Awesome job on the loss!!! Good luck tonight. BlzMax - How can you keep up with your workout schedule? I get tired just reading it!! |
Okay, it's definitely raining out now so I won't feel guilty about not working outside anymore for the day! Sadly, I do have a tendancy to over-committing myself. Last night I wanted to catch up on the forum I usually hang out on. At the same time I needed to update my blog, my training log, and make sure I planned today's food (even though I changed it today when I realised I wasn't going to use the treadmill in the morning). And now that I've worked for at least 3 hours in the garden, including some heavy work, I just don't feel it. Since I've already adjusted my calories down I likely won't do it. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
Sally - good luck with staying away from the bar food. There's rarely anything good in them that is acceptable on the fat/calorie side. Have fun with the horseshoes though. Smurf - I never seem to get inches lost and pounds lost at the same time. I suppose it's a sign that I'm building some muscle and toning up under the fat! On the question of what food I can't say no too, that's a tough one. At first thought it's savoury things (chips), or maybe chocolate (nah), I suspect it's more like the greasy bar food that Sally will be avoiding. I was out at a pool/euchre tournament last fall and even though there was a great veggie platter I couldn't avoid the chicken wings, pizza and nachos. I've made my own version of pizza though, and when I'm in the mood I can probably make a good plate of nachos. The chicken wings are likely a thing of the past though. Even though I used to bake them (on a rack to get rid of the fat) they're just too many calories for what you get. I'm kind of the same way about ribs, although I'm going to make some next week when friends are coming over. I'll precook them to remove a lot of the fat, but they're still a little higher than I would like. Sigh, I guess my can't skip is no-so-lean meats! And I'm skimming back, so I'll answer your other question - I'm currently unemployed (partly by choice), but before that I was a Quality Engineer (working in the automotive manufacturing sector). I left my last job to travel out of the country for 5 months (on a freighter), and although they offered to hold it for me, I opted to just quit. When I came back I found that those companies who wanted me, I didn't want to work for (or I would have needed to relocate). The ones that I wanted to work for kept pointing out my lack of education, which had never been a problem before. I had considered going back to school a few years ago, so now I'm taking the plunge. I'll be starting Mechanical Engineering in the fall (scary stuff). When I'm finished though, I'll likely continue with night school to turn a diploma into a degree. I'd also like to go back to manufacturing, but on the process side instead of the quality side. We'll see how that goes. :) blueyedlvrgirl - I'm a math person as well, although more statistics in the past few years. I'm heading back to college in the fall and had to take an evaluation test. Without any real studying I ended up with 76%, which surprised me. I've got a few areas I'm supposed to work on a bit before I start, but considering it's been probably 20 years since I took math classes (excluding stats) that's not too bad. Wow, I've read back about 4 or 5 pages, and I haven't found my last post. I definitely have been slacking. I'm going to try and do an 'every morning' kind of thing to try and keep up. Although in the end I will probably be busy next week with planting all of the pots (more than 50 of them ready to plant). After that it should calm down a little. Take care all and hope you're having a great, on plan, week! |

HAHA Thanks ggmugsy, the fisherman one is actually grandpa and grandson. If anyone else wants to see them they are at amynielson.blogspot.com and my old website (new one is under construction) at amynielson.com
Anne-I am hoping the lbs start falling off too soon, good to know I am not the only one that goes back and forth. I LOVE salty/savoury foods too, but for some reason I can turn them down-I have to turn them down completely though if I have one I am doomed!! Mechanical Engineering-that is awesome. Good luck in your quest of a diploma! I want to go back to school one of these days too. I am a math girl too-I used to tutor all of my friends in high school. English on the other hand-forget it! So our rain clouds have broken a bit, but it is windy and cold today so I may not get any outdoor things accomplished today-except my walk/run only rain will stop that! |
