Hi all! Sorry I've been MIA for a few days, I've been way busy with school and looking for a new apartment...it's amazing how much time that can take.
work: I am a professional full-time student. I graduated with 2 associates (1 in English, 1 in transfer studies, which is like liberal arts) a few years ago, and now in a week I am graduating with my bachelors in English. It's been really rough on me, I thought English would be an easy major but it isn't. This semester alone, I've read 17 books, none of them easy reads! I might work this summer for an attorney doing office work, but then again, I might just enjoy a break. In the Fall, I start graduate school for Library and Information Science. It will allow me to be a librarian; I want to work in a university setting. I should be in school for another 3 years. I am going to be going to San Jose State University, although I don't have to move there because the program is all online! Isn't that cool? I am married, no kids but pets that are treated as children.
Hobbies: creative writing, digital scrapbooking, photography, jewelrymaking, reading (classics and mass fiction), I love camping but don't get to do it but a couple of times a year thanks to school, movies and more.
What is one food you can't say no to? I can't say no to chips. Any kind. I have had to ban them altogether. I feel much more in control now that I've banned them. Sometimes I miss them, but then I remember how much damage they've caused me and that now it is a rule I can't have them and then I am fine. I can't have snack portions/bags of them, nor can I have just 15 chips...I get out of control and then it leads to binging on other things. So no chips!
Been so busy this week haven't had time to get on here and post. Sorry about the 1 lb. gain last week. I definitely been OP this week. I only got in 1 work out so far. Did a 45 min walk tonite.
Troo- My sil is just finishing her masters in library science. She is now a Kindergarten teacher and wants to be a school librarian. She had to read hundreds of books but loved the program. Congrats on your graduation!!!
Kim- I'm a guidance counselor at an elementary school. I used to teach middle school before that.
Blzmax-Good luck on the job!!! I'll be praying you get good news...sounds like an awesome job. When I first started at my position I specifically dealt with the Spec Ed population. I just love those kids!
Stated my stay at mom mom career a few pages ago. But wanted to add answers to the other questions.
Hobbies: journal writing, digital scrapbooking, photography, reading (wide variety) , bike riding, cooking trying out new recipies healthy of course, camping, DH has reintroduced me to fishing
What is one food you can't say no to? Pretty much anything junk food. I am an emotional eater. I eat when I need comfort.Sad/depressed I eat, stressed I dont eat cause I then feel sick to my stomach, happy/content eat healthy.
Smurf--Absolutely GORGEOUS work! Thanks so much for sharing! How cool
I never have time to fully post here...keeping OP today and have 2-32oz waters under my belt, plus some tea and coffee from this AM...I am waiting to see what the scale says tomorrow before I post WI. Today (my official WW day) I was up +.5 from last week...BUT, y'all I have been kicking my behind with exercise for this challenge and I am SURE that my muscles are holding every bit of water they can to repair themselves because I was so sore over the weekend and on Monday! I bet next week's scale # will be excellent if I keep this up--and I plan to! I need to add more weight training I know, I'm getting plenty of varied cardio.
DH and I are off tonight for a long walk along the river, then we will find some sort of healthy dinner. The sun is out here FINALLY!
I am in North County, I live in Vista and work in Carlsbad. I workout at the 24 Hr Fitness on Palomar Airport Rd. I guess I am lucky in the fact that my bf is my workout partner, I pushed to get a membership for myself and he joined with me! It's more fun and a great motivator to go together. We push each other and have a good time! WHat part of SD are you in?
That's great that your BF is a good support.
I am in South Park near Downtown. So, it's not likely that we can be work out buddies. I just keep trying to make local 3FC weight loss buddies, to no avail! Oh well, maybe we can meet up for a movie or lunch sometime.
Korean food. Doesn't matter what, as long as it's Korean (or maybe SOME Asian) food... I can't seem to stop eating until I see the bottom of the dish... Sigh....
Hi Black Team,
I can't believe Wednesday is over and I just got here to catch up. Congrats Soul on being the biggest loser. And a pat on the back for all those completeing the 5k last weekend.
And for all the get aquainted questions I missed:
My job is pastoral minister for a Catholic Cluster, I'm not ordained or anything, but I work with the senior citizens and whatever else that need to be done, I love it, it's one of the best jobs I've ever had and the one I've felt most appreciated for. And also the first one where I get paid for visiting people.
hobbies: Reading, photography ( I turned it into a small business a few years ago, but let it drop need to get going again) Renaissance faires, gardening, archaeology and history.
The food I can't say no to is Cookies!
I lost last week, but don't know how this week is going to go, my son graduates from high school Sunday and the rounds of parties will start on Friday. His party isn't until the 25th, but there are a lot of kids that we have known since Kindergarden that we need to go to their parties. He's leaving for the Army in July and is talking about having a party then too, I don't think so. It's hard with my oldest growing up, just seems like yesterday we were having birthday parties and starting off for school. At least dd is still young, she starts 2nd grade next fall.
I am going to be going to San Jose State University, although I don't have to move there because the program is all online! Isn't that cool?
What is one food you can't say no to? I can't say no to chips.
I take classes at a community college that is about 2 miles or so away from home. However, I take them all online because I don't have time to actually go to classes...single mom and working full time at night does that... So I take all of them online and it's been working great as I am on the computer at work and sometimes I can do school stuff at work. =) It's great!
Today, I was dropping of my DD at her grandmother's before coming to work and they were eating Sun Chips. I used to like Sun Chips so decided to have a couple...I grabbed two and took one bite. I used to LOVE it but guess not any more, since I haven't been snacking on chips...It just tasted greasy and just didn't taste right for some reason. I saw their ad on tv before I started this journey and bought one bag, which is still sitting in my cabinet. I don't think I will be eating that anymore... Well, a great NSV.
Zumba. Has anyone tried it? I read about it somewhere, started looking it up and found that there's one on Saturday morning every week near my house! I'm thinking about visiting to see how it will be.. I used to do latin dance so it sounds really interesting... When I get used to it and see how the class is, I may try to get my BF to go with me.. He promised that we are going to go dance together. I know that's not really "dancing" but worth a try, especially since he's gained lots of weight since he moved to Michigan... heh...
I'm so busy trying to keep track of all the challenges and threads on this board, I don't have time to see who is getting ahead and that the other teams are way more talkative. My weight loss has slowed in recent weeks. I haven't been pushing myself as hard since I have less to lose now so I'm not contributing as much to the overall.
My job: I'm in residency right now to become an orthodontist. I have one year left in my program. It is a very competitive specialty to get accepted into, and I tried for 3 years before I got in. The stress from trying to get it had me turning to food and that is how I ended up here. I am licensed as a dentist as well so I work on the weekends at a second job doing general dentistry.
My hobbies: I like photography too, but I'm way an amateur. I just take pictures of my family and friends when we're together and at parties. I had my bf get me a really nice camera this Christmas with all sorts of neat settings, but my brother stole it from me last week and took it on his trip to China this week. (Younger brothers, what would they do without responsible older sisters?) His new camera arrived after he left for his trip, so I guess I'll be trying his camera out in Denver while mine is in China. I would like to get into digital photobooks, but I haven't had time to start. I did yearbook when I was in dental school so I am familiar with page layouts and picture arrangements and such and I want to do that with my own photos for my family.
I also like cooking, but it can be hard to cook for one. I like spending time with my bf and family but I don't see them as often since I live far away for my residency.
Sunday was my weigh in and this is my first time experiencing NO loss... zero, zilch, nada. UGH. Can't say I'm all that surprised though. Last week was my bday (cinco de mayo) so I couldn't pass up the tacos and margaritas! Even with no loss on the scale, this is the first week I've really been able to tell that I've finally lost some weight! I put some jeans on last night that I haven't worn in well over a year and THEY FIT! SO exciting!
I have new-found motivation also, as hubby and I just booked our anniversary vacation to Puerto Vallarta the first week in September. I'm really going to work my booty off and attempt to lose 30 lbs by then! I want to feel good and be able to wear cute dresses/halter tops/swimsuits!
I did a 44 minute pilates workout yesterday, the whole time thinking it wasn't doing much because i never broke a sweat and it seemed so easy compared to what I'm used to doing...but today OMG my butt is so sore it is uncomfortable to walk, and my thighs, abs, back, shoulders, and biceps are sore as well, but my butt is KILLING! I did some step aerobics today and going over the step almost made me cry. It's not pain like I"m hurt, it's the good hurt but seriously, I have never had something work my butt that hard...and I didn't even realize it as I did it, it seemed so easy. I will be doing it again
Purplefirefly Yay! I know that feeling. I did C25K for the first time yesterday...and then did some more cardio afterwards. Well, my thighs hurt little bit but it wasn't that bad. Then I woke up today and OMG :eek!: I couldn't even bend over to pick up my purse..my whole side of hip, my thighs, my butt.. I did some strength workout today and everytime I had to do lunge, I had difficult time but it wasn't as bad as when I was walking. When I was working out, it felt better. :P
I was pretty surprised because I've been working out for about 2 months now but guess that's why everyone recommends walking/jogging if possible... :P
So it sounds like pilates workout IS working for you! That's so great!!! I am waiting for my pilates dvd. It was shipped on May 5th and I still haven't received it.. Can't wait till I have it in my hands, though! =)
