What did you learn about yourself and about what works or doesn't work for you? Are you doing anything differently this week?

I've learned that I'm prone to overeating certain foods if they are "on plan". I'm also eating the wrong ratio of nutrients. I need more protein, less carbs, better fats. I need to learn to read labels more carefully. And possibly I need more calories, as wrong as that sounds. For my activity level I was eating too few calories which is not helping me lose weight, it's just eating my muscles.

This week I'm applying the ratios of carbs/fat/protein given to me on Jillian's website. I'm applying the calorie recommendations from another website. Geek that I am, I have charts, graphs, and spreadsheets. Time to put the plan into action. :carrot:

HoosierHeather 01-22-2008 12:43 PM

I'm bummed that we didn't win last week (darn red team :) ) but I'm totally motivated & uplifted by chell's comment about climbing the mountain halfway. I just put the two babies to bed and was totally thinking a nap sounded much better than workout BUT is that going to help me reach my goals??? NO. So workout it is! I better hurry though. The beebees are sick and it's very likely one or both of them will wake earlier than usual.

Have a great on plan day everyone! Fight the urge to eat junk! We have snow today and I know, for me, deep in my brain snow+cold=a need for hot cocoa!

practiceliving 01-22-2008 12:50 PM

Morning all! It's another sunny-but-freezing day up here. I'm not cut out for cold, but I am LOVING the sunshine! If it's not too icy in my 'hood after work, I'm going to head out for a walk/jog. If it's icy, I'll either hop on DBF's stationary bike or do a strength workout from Fitness mag.

Hmmm. I learned that I need to start eating more fiber to keep things moving (in the loo and on the scales)! I feel like I'm making huge progress with my relationship with myself, and I'm feeling really great about my "break up" with my old body/mindset and the beginning of my NEW relationship with them. This week I'm going to move my butt more, and focus on getting in more lean protein and high-fiber foods.

WOW Jen, congrats on your big loss! :carrot:

Dee - I don't think it sounds wrong that you need more calories - I know that if I eat too little, my loss comes to a complete standstill, especially if I'm not eating enough good fats.

Amberelise - You are learning! You keep coming back and talking to us all and working through it. It's just a slow process, unfortunately. Can you start with working on being OP one day at a time, rather than looking for a whole week? Like this week, maybe aim for 2 perfectly on-plan days. Obviously, you won't set out to have the other 5 days be off-plan, but would it go better for you in smaller pieces?

chelle - Get peein' girl! ;) Lots of cranberry juice and water, and leafy veg and that sodium will be gone before you know it.

Anna - Have a GREAT trip!

Kelly - I was going to ask you about the wavy bits of the hoop - sounds like a bit of a beating! ;)

Nori - Try to remember that there are SO many factors that go into our losses in any given week, and we can only control some of them. Keep playing with your ratios, but don't beat yourself up if you aren't at 2lbs a week. Are you seeing a change in inches? A lb is a lb, whether it's fat or muscle, but a pound of muscle is much leaner! Also - I'm up in Vancouver, and we're having the same weather - totally gorgeous, but ccccccold for the PNW, eh?

Fran - "But I realize too that I could literally GRIND myself into that treadmill track, and it's all for naught if the eatin' ain't clean!" SO true! Our bodies can only do so much, depending on the nourishment they're given.

Rhonda - I am LOVING your questions! :D I like your goals for the week, too.

Erin - Brrr sorry to hear you are feeling trapped by the weather! Sounds scarily icy, so take care of you!

AmberD - Thanks for stopping and checking in!

Heather - GREAT idea to workout while the little ones nap. I was bummed we didn't win this week, too, but we'll just have to win the remaining 11 weeks!

FrouFrou 01-22-2008 12:54 PM

Hello ladies, and Gent! :)

A big CONGRAT'S to the biggest loser this week! And to the Blue Team! We can do it! Go Blue!

RHONDA...a big thank you for all your posts. :thanks: And your question of the day. They really get me to thinking, the questions and your posts. Good job on the exercise.

AMBERELISE...the good thing is you know what has to be done and you're doing it!

CHELLE...love the banner! I am going to look up that book, you peaked my interest. I am in awe of the totals this week...each team lost a whole person!

ONTHETEE...be safe and have a fun trip! I've not been to the Greatwolf place, they have one close but my son and his gF went. She loves the place and has taken her kids. So I know you will get some exercise while gone.

NORI...lucky woman you, having a personal trainer! Have a good workout!

ERIN...sounds like you guys are having the same weather we are. Yesterday when DH came home he went thru someones yard, oops! He had his wheels turned but his truck kept going straight...I hate the ice.

Despite the back I did get in 105 minutes, a very slow 105 minutes on the treadmill. I want to do my dvds but the back won't let me so all I can do are slow walks on the treadmill. Guess it is better than nothing at all. Going to make an appt. to see the doc about this because although my back has gone out before, one week was the max to getting back to doing things. This time is different and doesn't feel right, although I don't know what it could be. Going to do that right now! Just did and have an appt. for tomorrow.

"Now that we have finished our first challenge week, let's take some time to reflect. What did you learn about yourself and about what works or doesn't work for you? Are you doing anything differently this week?"

This is a hard one for me because apparently what I am doing is working for me right now. I know though eventually there will be a plateau and I will be stuck, like before I started losing. I was stuck forever it seemed. But I know I could do better, a lot better. I know the weekend is a bad time for me with the eating. It's like I give myself permission to be bad and I need to nip that in the bud. I can't exercise like I want to right now but I do plan on working on the weekend food bingeing and making better choices. Also, I need to post more here. I have been reading everything just not posting much.

Have a GREAT day BLUE Team!

heweysgirlalways 01-22-2008 01:02 PM

I had a very bad day yesterday  but I'm okay now :) and I hope to still see a weight loss this week. I'm going to work hard at it!

chellez 01-22-2008 01:19 PM

Ok I have some old personals I found in my car that I had written down so let me get those out of the way first!

Maggie - I'll have to measure my puppy sometime when I get home. I think I'm going to try to make one myself but if I fail miserably then I'll see if you're still interested in making my doggie sweater.

Rhonda - the question of the day ideas you are coming up with.

Anna - the motivational posts you give to all of us.

Amber - I still play WoW every now and then when I get free time. I have a 65 blood elf paladin on the Turalyon server named Mornaria. What server did you play on? Can you link that Blue Points thing again for me please? I have Anthem and I'd like to check it out.

Fran - I wish there was a way to record the history of the challenge but I'm pretty sure the old threads stay on the forum until they have a forum wide clean up of old threads.

Ok now on to some new stuff!

Theresa - :congrat: on the 3 lb loss!

Krispie - I'm sure you were screaming at the TV like I was for the end of the Packers game. I'm not a football fan but I did want to see Farve get a Super Bowl win this year so he can retire. :thanks: for being a challenge promoter of sorts. I get proud of all the people saying they lose lots of weight because of my challenges.

Rhonda - I used to work at Bath and Body Works for the holiday season a few years ago. I'm still obsessed with it. It's funny because I know more about the product than the people working there now and they try to help me! :lol3: :congrat: on staying OP and exercising!

zinke - Sorry about the $ issues. I'm sure me and my hubby will run into that when the first mortgage payment comes!

Jenn - Good Lord woman... 11 lbs in one week! :faint: I'd ask what diet you're one but I have Marianne's cheat sheet open so I already know! :D

Dee - Rubbish! No one ever gets old! Just aged to perfection! :D

Cristina - Packers game was intense but I'll forget about it. Like I told Krispie I really don't care for football. I will however say that I think the pass interference rule is soooooo stupid :dizzy: Players get yelled at for keeping the other team from catching the ball.... isn't that part of the job? :faint: Hope you back feels better! :getwell:

Dionne - Keeping your FIL in my prayers as well!

Marianne - Loving the cheat sheet! Break up with your body girl! Tell her she's done you wrong and you want half of everything! :lol3:

Anna - We have a Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. I've never been... but I'm not brave enough for a bathing suit yet either. :o

Sonja - :Congrat: on the great loss this week! What ticker site are you using? I use tickerfactory and it does do half pounds. You just have to make sure you type in that XXX.5 or whatever number at the end.

Fran - Good to hear you are still lifting weights! :strong:

Karen - :congrat: on the gym membership! Make sure you stick with it!

Amber - :goodluck: on your plan this week! I'm glad you are writing everything down. I think it will help in the end. Bonus that you didn't buy any bad foods.

Nori - I have a hard time going to the gym period. Seattle sunsets sound lovely!

Erin - Accidents were bad here this morning too. All of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake was icy. I wish I could run around the couch with my puppy but she's sick right now. :(

So, Marianne, you got me thinking about what I can do to "pamper" myself these days. And, I just thought of something great for me...and, maybe for some of the rest of you. I love my morning coffee and I usually have two cups each morning, right after the girls go to school and before Hubby gets up. This is my quiet time and the time when I usually come here to our threads and post. Today, I'm going to buy a coffee grinder and some special coffee beans and I'll start having some "special for me" coffee in the morning. Yes, its is a little more expense, but I'm worth it! :coffee: (I might even add a couple of spoonfuls of real creamer....of course, I'll track the calories.)

Shay 01-22-2008 01:39 PM

Our team had a fantastic week! Who knew someone could lose 16.8 lbs in a week in the real world just like the Biggest Loser????! That darn Red Team :)!

As usual, great question Rhonda
"Now that we have finished our first challenge week, let's take some time to reflect. What did you learn about yourself and about what works or doesn't work for you? Are you doing anything differently this week?"

1. I exercised 4 times last week without forcing myself. What I need to do differently is to get some more cardio in....I hate it with a passion! I do love Taebo and its so challenging so my goal is to do Taebo at least 1x/wk and maybe one of my BL exercise dvds.

2. I'm starting to wonder if WW is truly the plan for me. I keep quitting it and I think there is something definitely behind that. I'm tired of counting points. I've lost 130lbs, I've lost 60lbs, I've lost 40lbs, etc...You get the point so I think I can do this because I know how to lose weight its keeping it off. So I think I will take a cue from Jordan and start the "Shay Plan". Something that I can do for the rest of my life. This plan will just involve getting in more fruits and veggies, me cooking meals rather than relying on processed foods, 3 meals/3 snacks, and everything in moderation. The plan started today so I changed my weigh in days to Mondays. So I will weigh in on the 28th.

3. I'm starting to question the weighing in a on daily basis. I haven't fully decided to not do it any longer...still on the fence.

Purplefirefly 01-22-2008 02:12 PM

We didn't win, but we got second place...so keep going, let's be first next week!!!! :congrat: Jen on being our own biggest loser!

I got my Jillian DVDs and will start with the beginner front side today. :carrot: I can't wait to do it, but son is watching a movie right now, it is about over and I am stealing the living room TV the second it goes off!

What I learned from this first week is that there really might be something to the "last chance workout" theory from the show. The last two weeks I was not showing a lost most of the week, down one on weekend, put in a big push on Sunday and came out with about 3 lb. loss each week. I don't think I would have had that extra lb. or two without the big exercise push on Sunday. I'm going to keep with it making that a heavier exercise day and see if it keeps working.

I have to admit I get discouraged when I see someone lose 16 lbs in one week. I am happy for everyone, but I have to really bust my butt and be spot on with calories and nutrition, and in the end am lucky to lose 2 or 3 lb. I just don't get how people get such high numbers :( I guess I am just cursed to lose slowly. I am almost 31 so maybe my metabolism is just old  I'm determined to get there no matter how slowly, I just wonder sometimes why I can't pull a high number like.

Amberelise 01-22-2008 02:16 PM

Okay, now I'm catching up from everything over the weekend. Whew! Someone can really get lost if they miss a couple of days.

Shay - Thanks for the tip about the frozen steel cut oats. I wish I had read that earlier! I had the *hardest* time finding any. Whole Foods had one option - which is what I went with. Jewel did not have ANY. I do live near a Trader Joe's so once I run out of my current bag I'll check out the frozen option. That is certainly more time convenient.

I've been considering making my own plan as well. I'm not sure that I can count calories for the rest of my life. At the same time, I'm not sure I'm fully aware of correct portion sizes and calories in treats just yet. I'm on the fence. We'll see how this week goes.

Selina - Congrats on being in ONEderland. I'm really sorry this is a delayed congratulations. But, I'm sure it still feels just as good a few days later. :)

Zinke - I hear you on the problems with the eating of bad foods like McD's and apple pie. I truly understand your struggles because I have them, too. I've been taking my lunch hours here at work to go journal and try and figure out why I do the binging. Haha, you know what the one problem is? I can't ever find a good location to do my journaling outside of Starbuck's. But, then I'm stuck paying for a drink and, naturally, I always order a skim latte with syrup in it. I could use the library here at work, but it's always so cold! And, working here at my desk is a definite NO because my bosses will bother me.

I should add, I really like your print-out for your van. :)

As a warning, last year I took my mom for her very first pedicure. She is hooked and now she goes every couple of months to get one. I don't think she understand how she went so long without ever getting one, haha. Now she's hooked on facials, too. I, myself, have never had one of those and for my wallet's sake I should stay away.

John - YOU ARE A MACHINE. How in the world are you putting in so many minutes of walking. That is amazing. 100 minutes a day. :) I'm so proud of you. Btw, I love your quote about committment. I like that a lot.

Karen - I hear you about losing the bottom half. That's exactly what I'm struggling with. I look in the mirror and see the back of my thighs are just full of cottage cheese. Per my own set goal weight I have under 15 lbs. to lose. I feel like I have 10 lbs. of cottage cheese on each thigh alone! And, it's not like my arms or abs are perfect either, haha.

Nori - I know what you mean about being afraid of consuming less calories for life. There is a sticky thread on the maintence board that you might be interested in. It addresses exactly that issue. I'm not promising great news, but it's still a great read.

Also, I know what you mean about the weight being on the limbs. I went for a fitness test at my gym and when he took the calipers to me he said my biggest issues were my legs and arms. Now, I knew that my legs had a considerable amount of fat on them, but I was actually surprised about my arms. I've been taking a little more care to do upper body weights now.

You make Seattle sound SO BEAUTIFUL. I wish I were there to enjoy it. :) Seattle is in the top five of places my fiance and I want to take a vacation to. We're doing Hawaii this year for our wedding. Then it's between Seattle, an Alaskan cruise and Vegas for the following year.

Amber - I hear you about not being satisfied even after hitting my goal weight. That is something that I'm certainly afraid of. The last thing I want is to reach a goal and only be met with disappointment. I'm hoping that hitting the weights like I have been will aid in how my body shapes up at goal weight, though.

Chellez - I'm not sure I've congratulated you on your house yet or not, but congratulations. At this point, I do think the worst is over. Getting everything actually IN the new house is the worst part. And, I agree, I think that was likely an amazing workout for you.

I think you did great at they buffet and you should be proud! I'm proud of you. :)

The signature tag for Jenn is really cute.

My server was Drenden for Wow. I think it was a new server. I transfered there from Azjol-Nerub. Here is the blue points link for Illinois: https://members.hcsc.net/members/mbrsignon_il.html I'm not sure what it is for each state and if every state offers it.

Purple - I have the trampoline bladder issue BIG TIME. It developed at some point in college. I was jumping on the trampoline in the backyard just as I always had through Junior high and High school. . . and I realized that I needed to go change my panties. That was the last time I ever jumped. *shrug* I have no idea what causes it. I just know I can't do it. (Oh, I read later on that now you don't have the issue. Haha, lucky you, then!)

Oooh, a snow family. I have never made a snowman in my life. Isn't that crazy? I grew up in Southern Illinois. (VERY SOUTHERN Illinois) And, it just never snowed enough to make one. When it did snow enough it was "dry" snow that didn't pack very well. :(

You know, my fiance promised me a boob job if I lose the weight and keep it off for four years. So, that's a real motivation for me once I hit maintanence. :)

Congrats on the 10% weight loss goal being reached. That's AWESOME!

97 minutes of exercise? Insane!! Good job.

Jenn - Congratulations on avoiding the cake temptation. That is amazing self control. And, congratulations on the 11 lb. loss. That is AMAZING! And, congrats on being the biggest loser. :) :) :)

Peach - I'm glad to read that you made it out of your surgery successfuly. I hope that you are recovering and all is well! Congrats on the loss. :)

Pam - 4.5 lbs. is awesome. You'll get below 250 soon enough. I'm very proud of you! I don't want to be a nag, but maybe you should get an MRI on your knee? I'd hate to see you let it get worse and keep you from being able to get around for a long time.

MissRocky - Congrats on the weight loss!

Cristina - Congrats on making it into the 180s. :) Keep up the good work. Maybe some gentle stretching exercises could be done for a couple of days while you let your back heal a little better?

Rhonda - What is the world is Bunko? This is the second time I've read about it here on the boards. Please explain.

I'm sorry about the setback on Bunko night, but as long as you take something from it, it will be worth it. :) Good job on the exercising, though. I have not gone running in so long, even on the treadmill. That is some GREAT exercise. Keep up the good work. You'll get that calorie counting down perfectly soon enough. At least you're progressing in the right direction.

QOTD: Three things I like about my body/appearance. I have huge brown eyes with long eyelashes. I think I have the perfect nose. If I was getting a nose job, I would ask for my nose. I've always been told I have a great butt. (Personally, I think it's a little big, but the guys like it.)

Ginger - What I'd give for some boobs, haha. You're very lucky.

Dee - Wow, 6am for a workout. Now that is dedication! It sounds like you're going to a really nice gym. We spend a little extra money on a nicer gym because it gives us extra motivation to attend. Though, I wish our heated pool was just a little more heated. Maybe I don't move around enough in it. :) And, no, you're not the old woman. Don't you worry.

You'll get that one pound back from TOM soon enough.

I agree with what you learned from last week. Even if a food is on plan, you can still have too much of a good thing. I had to stop buying string cheese all together. I could eat six in one sitting. Bye bye string cheese.

scgirl - I couldn've have said no to the mozz sticks, either. What I do when I get a food in front of me that I know I can't say no too is pass it out to people. Once it's in their hands then I know I won't eat it. But, that's what I do when I'm being good. Hopefully that will be more often now.

Uuugh, the weather in TN sounds horrible. I hope it warms up soon enough down there so that roads can clear up. I know from when I lived in Southern Illinois that they do not prepare with enough salt trucks, etc. like the northern locations do. Good luck. I hope you get out of the house soon enough. Cabin fever is NO fun.

Sonja - Do you take dancing in Hyde Park? It's something I would be interested in doing, but Hyde Park can be a bit of a drive depending. (Of course, if it's not during rush hour it's not bad since it's just an drive down LSD.) And, yes, I'm still training for Hancock. I've been doing the stairclimber religiously at the gym. Just another month to go!! I'll take pictures for everyone here.

CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss. :) That is FANTASTIC! I'm very proud of you. You make a very good point about how you want to eat right if you've got the personal trainer. Maybe I should edit my answer. Maybe I should go pay for that personal trainer. . . ;) Sigh, if I only had the money. My trainer is my fiance and he's awesome at getting me to work in the gym, but he's bad bad bad about letting me eat junk.

Kristen - Congrats on the weight loss and for avoiding the pizza and cake. I wish I had avoided the pizza. :( That takes some major willpower. Also, what in the world are you dressing those poor children in? Boooo!!! ;)

The Sunday activity day is a great idea. Your kids will remember that and appreciate it. My parents had a family night every Friday night for a long while and I really liked it as a kid. But, then my older sister hit her teens and that was the end of that, haha. Regardless, teaching them to be active *now* is a great idea.

Mommytoacacia - Congrats on the weight loss. :) One pound down is one pound in the right direction.

Victoria - Congrats on the weight loss! You'll reach your goal for this month, I have faith in you.

Marianne - I get a 15 minute upper back massage every couple of weeks from the masseuse we have here at work. It's $15 (then tip) so I try not to go too often because I'm saving up for the wedding and house downpayment. However, sometimes I just can't say no. She is AMAZING!

And as far as breaking up with your body, haha, that gave me a bit of a chuckle but it is also so true. Maybe I will take that route as well. I'll break up with my brain that tells me I need to binge. Stupid brain.

Congrats on avoiding McD's!

You're right, I should tackle one day at a time and just string them together. So, I was going to quit tracking calories, but maybe I'll track them after all. That way I'll know for sure whether or not I'm on plan. So far today I have been great. I will check in with you tomorrow and let you know how today went. I'm feeling optimistic. :)

QOTD: I would choose a personal chef. As of late I've been doing ag reat job getting my butt to the gym. And, I'm a fairly active individual as it is. However, I JUST CANNOT EAT RIGHT. If I ate right, I'd never have been fat in the first place. There are all sorts of "skinny fat" people. The ones that are thin but out of shape. But, that's not me. I'm fat fat and that's because I was eating wrong.

Dionne - Your FIL and husband are in my thoughts and prayers.

sportmom - The eating out is definitely a HUGE reason I gained the weight I gained. It was still sabatoging me as recently as Sunday night. But no more Pizza Capri. Do you hear that? NO MORE!

Amen for what you learned from last week. I learned EXACTLY the same thing.

Anna - The bright side is that you made your confession and now you're going to go work out because you feel so bad when you don't. No worries. Use it as a few learning days. ;) Enjoy your trip!

There, I'm all caught up. :) AND, I was so determined to get through everything that I haven't had my lunch yet. Nor did I have a morning snack. I will save it for the end of the day right before the gym.

practiceliving 01-22-2008 02:33 PM

So I thought we could all use a little of our FAVOURITE inspiration to get us going for a big win in week 2! :D

http://bethanysnyder.com/wordpress/w...os/bobyoga.jpg

Amberelise - DANG girl! You had some serious catching up to do! ;) You have a masseuse AT WORK?! I am SO jealous! Congrats on a good start to today - just keep checking in with us, your own personal cheerleaders! :cheer:

Theresa
- Innnteresting experience with the last chance workout! Remember that we ALL have different bodies, genes, metabolisms, priorities, plans, etc - so we're all going to lose differently. You are doing great, so just keep chipping away at it.

Shay - What kinds of things do you do for cardio? Maybe you can try some new things and see if you find something you actually enjoy?

Rhonda - What a GREAT idea for a little daily treat for mind, body and soul. :D

chelle
- personals written down in your car? You HAVE been busy! ;) Glad the cheat sheet is helping - I would be lost without it!

Pam
- Hope everything is okay. Glad to see you checking in with us.

Cristina - Oh sweetie, I hope your back lets up soon, you sound so frustrated!

sportmom 01-22-2008 02:37 PM

Don't even spend a moment on those 16 lb weight losses. It's over, in the past, we're moving on. Those are going to be those first week freakish numbers just because of the way we have to start the challenges. Every week from here on out should be more normal. And if anyone IS losing double digits from here on out, then we can just all just ask, ".....of WHAT???" lol ;) Because it can't be fat, so it's water, muscle, maybe a haircut?

Don't forget to plan a workout for TBL airing tonite at 8 eastern - yet another 2 hours of fluff, gotta thank those writers' strikers! Actually I love it, I can zone out on the stuff I want, but I know it will be long and good. I'll be hitting the treadmill at 8 pm - who's with me?

Haha, I certainly *did* have some catching up to do. And, ladies, don't ever let me miss an entire weekend again. Not only did it cause me to have a TON of catching up to do, but you can also assume I'm up to no good if I'm not posting here. Bad bad bad.

Yes, we have a masseuse here every Friday. It's one of our soft perks. I absolutely love her and I wish I could see her every week. I could, but my wallet wouldn't like that very much. ;)

I am. I will be getting 45 minutes in on the Elliptical and 50 minutes in on the recumbant bike, then finish off with 20 minutes on the weighted hula hoop. That should get me through the show and hopeflly help my Wednesday morning weigh-in:D

I have to say I was too suprised at the 2 hours again, but it helps with the workout. I figure if they are getting their butts kicked :kickbutt: in the Gym, so should I right?

Congrats on the GREAT weigh-in. Lets keep up the good work ladies (and John). I think since we had the highest percentage of people come in to weigh-in that we truely have the most dedicated group and that in the long run will really payoff big for us.

Nori71 01-22-2008 04:00 PM

Yeah, our cable was out last Tuesday - some freak actually took a gun and shot the main cable so a huge population was without cable - so I missed TBL. Looking forward to it tonight.

Josh (trainer) killed me today with lunges and squats. And I signed on the dotted line for even more sessions. I'm not taking him all the way to goal with me - just long enough to get established in a good routine; and then follow up with him when I need to change things up a bit I suppose. I haven't done lifting for almost 10 years now.

Fran - what do you do? Lifting everyday, or alternating? I'm doing upper body 2x/week and lower 2x/week. The inbetween days I like to alternate with Pilates. I really enjoy Pilates actually. Very intense, yet somehow VERY, very relaxing for me.

AmberElise - thanks for directing me to the mainters forum for the calorie thread. I'm going to check it out now. I need to spend more time in that area I think! And, yes, I think SEA is gorgeous. You are close to water and mountains. And a road trip to CA isn't all that long either!

Marianne - Thanks for the great pic of Bob! And yes, I am seeing inches. And I feel good eating and moving like I am so no matter how long it takes, I am here for the long haul. I'll tweak things now and then to see if results follow.

Who uses a HR monitor? What kind? I think I want one. Just to make sure my cardio is being effective the whole hour. Sometimes I wonder if my perceived exertion is acurate.

Well, I got to get girls down for naps and get some bookkeeping done...

Soon2BFitChick 01-22-2008 04:20 PM

I'm here! Still on plan just had DH here this week alot so busy more than usual. He hates it when I am on here instead of spending time with him bc he is never here, poor thing. So I baby him. :bb: LOL!!

Anyhoo, read thru all your posts. Love how creative you all are with the questions, etc. and your answers. :cp: Hope to reply one day soon. :(

Everyone did greeeat this week. I'm so proud of us all. Can't 'weight' to get thru this challenge and be in the 170s for the first time in 12 years! (And even then it was just for a few months!) :cb:

Big hugs, bbl if I can, Selina

My review of Jillian Michaels for Beginners Frontside: 43 minutes, 6 circuits with 1 cardio move and 2 weight moves each.

Overall: I thought since I have been doing the circuits in the book I was going to whip right through this and move straight to the more advanced boxed set  These will definitely take the place of the book circuits, I got such a good workout. It was very doable, yet very challenging all the way through. Each circuit has one of the previous BL contestants (most from like season 1 or 2 and have kept it off!), and her...just them on a completely white background. The contestant does the work, she talks and gives TONS of information on form, best order to work the muscles, why you do each move, etc. I learned a ton and still haven't soaked it all in yet.

What I loved: Easy set up with no distractions. Lots of variations are given for different levels, so even though it's for beginners I will be on this one for awhile until I can do the advanced version of every move. She is very informative on correct form and where you should be feeling it. I learned so much that will carry into all my other workouts as well. ANd best of all...she is VERY motivating all the way through. I dropped down to baby jumping jacks on the last circuit and she said something along the lines of not to drop down at the end, go strong to the end and suddenly I was jumping higher than on the very first set of circuit one! It defintely has the feel of her training you one-on-one, not a rushed workout you have to keep up with while trying to figure out proper form.

What I didn't like: The only small thing that I didn't like was on a couple circuits she hands the performer their weights as they get up and down from the floor, while I had to get my own so it put me a couple reps behind. Nothing major that I couldn't keep up, but I like to be on the same rep as the person I am following.

I think I'm going to watch this one tomorrow just to really hear all the information she gives out. I know I didn't get it all while I was sweating and working! This is a really good workout and I really feel it. I walked some right after and could really feel that I am going to be sore tomorrow!

Go blue team

sportmom 01-22-2008 07:32 PM

NORI - I do a full body w/o 3 days a week, Weds, Fri, and Sun. I used to do splits, but wanted to see progress faster, so moved up to a fbwo and will stick with that if it doesn't kill me. I posted on the weight lifting forum today about some thigh pain, if you want to read more about it there. I hang out there equally as well, for the weight lifting education I need.

I do this! (sort of!) I usually drink two cups of coffee in the morning. I don't grind my coffee (cause I'm lazy) but I always put a tablespoon of creamer in my first cup of coffee and it feels so decadent!

Now that we have finished our first challenge week, let's take some time to reflect. What did you learn about yourself and about what works or doesn't work for you? Are you doing anything differently this week?

I learned that I do really well at the beginning of the week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I rock. Foods perfect AND exercise is perfect and I am just OP. Thursday and beyond exercise stops and starting Friday night/ Saturday morning my eating goes out the window too. 3 out of 7 days of being OP isn't going to cut it! So this week I'm going to work on my exercise consistency and next week I'll work on my weekend eating. Baby steps!

KrispieD 01-22-2008 08:54 PM

Hi Bluesers
What a great bunch of posts. EVERYONE should be proud of the last week.. if you weren't perfect you admitted to it and are working on changing it for this week.
What I learned from last week...hmmm.. what a great bunch of losers the Blue Team are!
Also if you missed my earlier posts, I used to weigh 251 lbs. I joined LAWL a year ago September and when I started I was 219lbs.. I had got some weight off on my own. I got down to 154 in June of last year and then was tired of always having to watch what I eat.. I crept up a bit but really threw caution to the wind in December and just 'wanted to enjoy the holidays'.. I am a lady that loves her cocktails..or as I call them my liquid fruits and starches and also got a little out of hand with scattered meals and some indulgences.. my reward for 'enjoying' myself was to see the scale at 183lbs on January 2nd.. I was DISGUSTED and so angry at myself. I had also thrown out all my fat clothes so nothing fit but one pair of jeans. So I started doing all my meal planning for a week at a time and once I joined this challenge joined a gym last week. Thanks to the motivation of the challenge, this lady that didn't do much exercise other than walking has been 7 times in just over a week. I have made myself get on the eliptical machine that used to scare the heck out of me and I'm up to half an hour now. I'm also doing weights and other cardio.
So what I learned this week is that these challenges are forums are better than any weight loss centre you can join as we motivate, inspire and also allow each other to confess and get right back on the right track. So over the next few weeks if you dont' lose, you gain or you only lose a bit remember you are making slow changes for a long reward
Whew.. I'm done!

krjpy 01-22-2008 10:07 PM

Alright Blue Team ... I did my last chance workout for the last 2 hours with TBL show. Did you?

Go BLUE!

Purplefirefly 01-22-2008 10:24 PM

 I did an hour! But it wasnt' really last chance for me, since I weigh in on Mondays.

zinkemomx2 01-22-2008 10:53 PM

I didn't do cardio but I did do my weights and what not. I'm still a little tender from Sunday so I tried not to overdo it to much tonight. I am about 100 points over on calories but overall I am very pleased with today.

sportmom 01-22-2008 11:57 PM

I did it!! Not only my std 1/2 hr of t'mill cardio but felt so great & energized that after a 15 min mini-rest (bathroom break) I also did 15 mins on the elliptical - a first for me! I've not been able to last more than 5 minutes on that thing EVER!! I'm not sure if I loved the exercise tonite bc it was the greatest episode ever, or, if I thought it was the greatest show EVER bc I was exercising! Yeah, on a little endorphin high here and will probably be up til 1 am. (<- That's the elusive sleep fairy tonite)

Antares 01-23-2008 02:32 AM

I just read the results for Week One and I have to say everyone is doing great! All together we lost a Jillian...and probably a few 10 pound dumbbells also! That's amazing!

So far this week I've been doing really awful on the exercise. I haven't gotten anything in today (Tuesday) and only 60 minutes on Sunday and Monday combined. It's not that I don't WANT to exercise, because I do...it's just that I've had friends over quite often the last few days and they end up staying until 1 or 2am. I have to be at work at 8am-9am, so I can't exercise this late. I know it's just an excuse, and to be honest I could have probably gotten in 20 minutes if I hit the bike as soon as I walked in the door, but I didn't and I need to work on that. So now I need to be at work in 5.5 hours and I'm kicking myself for spending too much time with my friends. How odd :)

Well, I'm going to get some sleep and I'm making a commitment with myself to finish up this month with at least 500 more minutes of exercise. That's only like, 50 minutes a day...:stress:

Take care everyone!

Purplefirefly 01-23-2008 08:18 AM

:cheer: You can do it Antares :cheer: This is mid-week, still plenty time to get to that goal :) And I like that we lost a Jillian

I might not be exercising much today. My calves are very sore from too much trampoline jumping last night. I didn't realize they were getting worked that hard until I could barely walk this morning. They are better now that I got up and moving about, but I'm not sure if I should try the backside Jillian DVD or not...I will probably just call this my day of rest for the week.

How is everyone else doing with week 2?

scgirl32 01-23-2008 08:58 AM

For week 2, I'm down another 1.2 pounds!!

krjpy 01-23-2008 09:07 AM

Alright everyone, I just posted my Week 2 weight, since this morning is my weigh-in day.

I am down 2.8 lbs, for a total of 8 lbs since start. :carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::c arrot:

Everyone keep up the good work and GO BLUE!

GirlyGirlSebas 01-23-2008 10:13 AM

Good morning, Bluesers!

Kelly and SCgirls - Congratulations on your losses for this week! Great job, Ladies! :carrot:

I'm running a bit behind today. I was feeling very tired this morning, so I went back to bed for 2 more hours of much needed rest....just one of the benefits of working from home!:D I've just enjoyed my bowl of steel-cut oats and.....a cup of freshly ground coffee! Yum Yum. Wow...extra sleep and special coffee all in one morning....this pampering myself is kinda nice. Yesterday, after my hour on the treadmill, I worked out my upper body with the resistance bands. This morning, I'm feeling some muscles that I never knew I had. Today, I'll be using the bands to work out my lower body. I really hope I can move tomorrow!

Ditto, ditto, ditto! Any time that I catch myself faltering with my commitment, I come to 3FC and read the posts. I am always inspired to keep going…that success is not just a dream, but it can be my reality, too. I especially love our Blue team chat. So, please, if you’re just lurking….post a sentence or two and let us know how you’re doing. We really want to know.

Hope everyone has a great on-plan day! I'll check-in again later.

:cheer::cheer::cheer: GO BLUE! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

GirlyGirlSebas 01-23-2008 10:28 AM

Wow, I was running so late today that I thought someone else might post a question for us. I guess I'm still earlier than most?

Wednesday's Question:

How often do you weigh yourself? Do you have a "ritual?" Why does your weigh-in schedule work for you?

Every single morning, I get up, use the bathroom and step on the scales....sans the PJ's. However, Monday is my official weigh-in day when my ticker gets updated. At first, I made myself only weigh once a week. However, the scales "called" to me constantly, so I found myself sneaking on every two or three days to make sure that my weight loss efforts were truly working. I soon realized that the small losses on the scales encouraged me to keep doing what I was doing, no losses encouraged me to tweak my plan and gains encouraged me to stop stuffing my face and get more exercise. Of course, the scale sometimes jumps up a pound or two. I don't like this, but it doesn't discourage me when I know I've been doing all I can. Plus, my rings and shoes are usually a bit tighter during that time, so I know its water weight.

KrispieD 01-23-2008 10:38 AM

My name is Kristen and I'm a scale-a-holic! I am on the silly machine, every morning BN (butt naked :) I hope with going to the gym and getting my body where I would like it that I can soon give up this morning ritual. But similar to Rhonda it does always keep me check. The down fall is sometimes you do everything right and it goes up and then mentally you start to worry.
I would be happy to live in a scale free house but I'm tied to mine!!

Amberelise 01-23-2008 11:31 AM

To begin, I would like to echo the congratulations to Kelly and SCgirls.

Last night I did a half hour on the treadmill within my cardio heart rate. I wanted to do the stairclimber but there was Sweaty Betty in all her glory in the middle of the only 2 empty machines. Arrrgh. Then I followed the treadmill with leg lifts on four different machines. My butt is sore. :)

Tonight my fiance has a dinner for work so we won't be going to the gym after work. The plan is to do my Pilates video at home.

Breakfast this morning was phenomenal. I bought a box of the Special K with protein. I added a sliced banana and a cup of almond breeze. OH MY GOSH. FANTASTIC. I do not like almond breeze by itself one bit. However, as "milk" for cereal it is wonderful. I highly recommend!

QOTD: I have a very bad relationship with my scale. I weigh myself constantly if I'm able to string two great on plan days together. If I feel like I've been bad I avoid it. This is why I went with my weigh in on Friday morning rather than Monday morning. I knew I had been bad over the weekend so I have been avoiding the scale. I haven't been on it since Friday. If I had some sense I would weigh myself every day because it might encourage me to try harder to stick on plan.

And with that. . . I still have a food problem. I thought I removed all of the triggers in my house. . . not so. There is nothing that I can't binge on. Last night I wasn't hungry at all and still ate the remaining blueberry carton. We made healthy pita pizzas last night for dinner. Instead of eating just one, though, I ate two. I'm beginning to think I need professional help. I can't stop overeating. It is so hard to feel good about myself when I'm hating myself so much.

Daimere 01-23-2008 11:37 AM

I was upset last night and binged. Although I made sure I was binging on my food at home and not going to McDonalds or pizza. :(

krjpy 01-23-2008 11:44 AM

Amberelise - Thanks for the congrats. I find that if I have it out on the table it is hard to avoid that 2nd (or 3rd) helping of whatever I made for dinner. I have found that I make the plates then put the rest away. If my DH or DS want more they have to get up and go get it (which has indirectly helped DH lose some of the pounds he needs to drop). I think it is that "clean your plate" or the "Starving kids in ???" mentality. We see it and want to finish it off.

When my plate is empty ... I am done, and there is nothing left on the table to tempt me into more when I know I had enough.

As for the QOTD: I am attached to my scale. I am suprised that no one sees it following me around. Not that I love it or anything (well when it really drops I do;)). I'm kinda like Rhonda. I see what the results are and then examine what I did right and what I did wrong. For example, I had quite a bit of stuff going on at the end of last week (Thursday to Monday), and I didn't work out as much as I normally do. The scaled slowed down ... it was enogh to get me downstairs during the entire TBL show and get in 110 minutes of workout time. I do though only have 1 day where I log my weight ... that is today. I get up (hopefully workout as I usually workout in the morning - not on Wednesday though because of the night before and because I workout at night tonight while my DS is doing indoor soccer), hit the potty, then hop on the scale (in my B-Day suit with my fingers crossed) and then take a shower.

I know you should avoid the scale except for once a week, but I just obsess about it and it is my reminder of where I came from and where I am heading.

dixied 01-23-2008 12:02 PM

QOTD: Let me sum it up like this, I take my scale on vacation with me. Yes, really. Obviously not if I fly, but if I drive anywhere, it's one of the last things packed, after I weigh in the morning I leave. It keeps me on plan even when I'm on vacation.

zinkemomx2 01-23-2008 12:12 PM

QOTD: I am another daily weigher. It is the first thing after peeing. I usually only update my ticker if I have kept the same weight for at least 3 days. I also do the spreadsheet thing that tracks the 10 day average. I love seeing that average go down daily but currently it is on an uphill trend.

I am trying to reverse that by obsessively counting my calories on Spark. As soon as I decide I want to eat something I run for the computer and log it before I even eat it. As long as I can keep up the counting I think that will help.

Congrats to those who are showing losses again. I'll get there too.

HoosierHeather 01-23-2008 12:31 PM

I'm jealous of those of you with treadmills who can workout during TBL! I guess I could do crunches or something but really... I'm so pooped by 8pm that I just want to lay down and veg out. I did a really tough lower body toning workout yesterday afternoon during nap time, then carried the garbage out and promptly fell HARD on my bottom. :( I am pretty sore today but am going to try to workout anyway. I think squats are definitely out though.:o

How often do you weigh yourself? Do you have a "ritual?" Why does your weigh-in schedule work for you?

I weigh once a week 'officially' but usually twice a week to keep on track. I weighed myself yesterday (Tues) but my real weigh-in will be Saturday.

My routine is wake up, go pee, get naked, get on scale. I always weigh myself first thing in the a.m., so no food or drink in my belly, empty bladder, and totally naked.

It works for me partially because our bathroom is small, and being naked in there, I have no choice but to see myself in the mirror! More motivation! :) I guess I could close my eyes but then I couldn't see the scale!

missrocky73 01-23-2008 12:37 PM

I wigh in every 2 - 3 days first thing in the morning.

heweysgirlalways 01-23-2008 12:49 PM

Every single morning, I get up, use the bathroom and step on the scales and this morning I was 249 :carrot:

Yes I'm under 250 lol

but today is not my weigh in day that I count but I will keep it off :)

Now I'll wrok to be under 245 :cb:

I was feeling really down a few days ago and I let a little thing really get to me. I had even thought about dropping out of the group. But after talking to Theresa I felt better and then the way in this morning just got me going again. (oh and it had nothing to do with the group more of a personal problem)

I still have a few days left so I hope to see another pound gone when I weigh in on Sunday.

So here is some :dust: to help each of us shed some pounds this week!
