Hi y'all! I just wanted to drop in and say "Hi!"

In just nine days I have a huge paper on Heidegger due and a Kant test, so I've been hitting the and the books hard. I'm pretty stressed, but somehow not stressed enough at the same time. I need something to light a big under my butt so that I'll get in gear. I can't wait until this stuff is all finished and I can have a real SUMMER! I saved money, so that I don't have to work at a job, I can just focus on my Master's paper.

Well, I'll probably pop in when I am procrastinating again sometime. Send me good brain power, I'm going to need it!

Hannah, good brain vibes coming your way. ( i got plenty to share, off school for a week until the 3rd, so i am not doing any studying)
that is good you can devote your summer to yourself and your masters without having to worry about work.
morning everyone.

Heidegger and Kant, together at last. I'm not surprised you're having trouble revving the engines, Hannah-- that pair's daunting to the bravest souls... Good Luck!

Hannah - Good vibes coming your way! One month away from the end of the semester for me. Sigh! I got into an arguement with a professor today. I have no idea what's wrong with me. Like arguing with the person who decides my grade is going to get me anywhere. She always gets off track (she has no control of the class) but her tests are on whatever material she says they're.... whether or not she goes over it in class. Anyway, she had two handouts that she was going over and she wanted to save the last ten minutes for questions for friday's exam. She and a few other students got into a political debate (yes, it's a poli-sci class but they weren't discussing current class topics) and after 20 solid minutes of being off topic and only 10 minutes left of class, I finally said, "Look, we have a test on friday. This debate is very interesting but it's not going to help me at all on friday. Can we get back to the worksheets?" Of course, she got very huffy and said, "Well, I am on control of this class. I am the teacher." And I said, "Well, could you teach then?" She saw how much time was left in class and freaked out and started saying things like, "Okay, let me give you all the definitions that are going to be on the test but not in your book and I haven't gone over them yet." I know I shouldn't be "sassing" my teacher but come on!!!!!!

Amyjo- What's a NP? I'm getting my BA now but I'm hoping to go straight to my master's. Mostly because I'm an "older" student and if I don't do it now, I never will.

I'm hosting a derby party this weekend! woo hoo! I'm making a Pecan Molasses Bundt Cake with Bourbon Glaze. Divine! The Cute Boyfriend is making a ham. I can't WAIT to see that.

I graduated last May with my BSN which is Bachelors of Science in Nursing- an NP is a Nurse Practitioner which is a step above an MSN which Specialized Master in Nursing. NP's are nurses who are allowed to diagnose and prescribe non-narcotic medication's. They usually practice in conjuction with an MD or with a hospital- and specialize in a certain area such as Women's Health, Family NP, Mid-wifery, neo-natal etc... I work with several awesome NP's but I live in the south and well we are a little behind- much in the area of Mid-wifes. They do not have alot of areas of practice in the south so I just don't know whether it is worth the time- I will definitely get my Masters because then I would be able to teach if I get tired of practicing.

Well, I just needed a break, so I thought I would stop in.

Seek- This has been one of the toughest semesters I have had. Both Heidegger and Kant have been major stumbling blocks for me in the past, but this time I am doing pretty well. Actually I'm not so sure how I'm doing in the Heidegger since my entire grade rides on the one paper, but I've gotten A's on all four Kant papers so far. The test thing really gets to me though. I really haven't had to take a test in at least three years (other than the GRE). My friend and I have been making flashcards, but it seems totally ridiculous. More like studying for Freshman science than Grad level Philosophy.

Goddess- It sounds like someone needed to tell that prof to stay on track. It really bugs me when things like that go on. On the one hand I like the open debate aspect of a lot of college classes, but it seems that it doesn't fit well into many class structures. I think it is totally unfair to give tests on material that has not been covered in class. Not to toot my own horn, but I strike material off tests in the class I teach when I haven't gotten to it yet.

What are all of you that are in school studying?

I'm a film and creative writing major. A far cry from the Biology major that I started with so many moons ago but I love it. I've had the chance to work on three shorts and one music video (all student projects). I'm working on a feature-length documentary now (my own project). On the creative writing side, I just got into a writing group that fits so well with me. I love them all. Cynical, sarcastic, and very into writing. Woo hoo!

PS. Kant was one of my favorite philosopher's in my freshman philosophy class.

Hannah: I'm sure you'll be fine! And taking a "test" in an academic philosophy master's class? Bizarre. I thought that was all on the seminar system.

They tried to pour some Kant into my head in school, but it leaked.

So glad I am out of school.

I have a BS in Information Technology with a minor in American Politics.

About the only things I would think about going back for I don't want to do for a living, so I have no intention on getting my Masters.

Have fun and study all of you school chicks!

Default Last Night

So, I come home last night and I'm moving some things around so I can clear a space on my desk. I look out my office window (2nd floor), which looks out onto the roof of the business next door and I notice a magazine and I think. How odd. I wonder how that got up there. Then, I notice that there's no screen in my window. How odd. When the Cute Boyfriend comes home and I say, "hey, look at this!" And I throw a ball of paper out the window, "when did the screen fall out? Did Keiko (one of the dogs) push it out?" He doesn't know but our landlord is next door so he runs over there to have him unlock our neighbors yard to hunt for the missing screen.

The next thing I know the landlord is on the roof next door, "Looks like someone broke into your house. Here's your screen (it's on my roof). And is this yours?" He picks up the magazine which is a VERY used Playboy. I think, "Wow, someone must have *tried* to break into our house but the dogs must have scared them off. Because we have two computers in this room alone and they haven't been taken."

Then, I think, "some bum has been jerking off looking into my house??" So, I call the cops. The Cute Boyfriend starts to notice things first... like the $500 digital camera with the $200 of memory is gone. and the new SLR wide angle lens he bought it gone... and his palm pilot is gone... and then I notice that some of my clothes... including my underwear is gone.

So, some sicko is out there with my underwear and pictures of us on my digital camera.

A very nice woman police officer came and took down our statement. She said to check the pawn shops and to lock our windows. Now that they know how to get in, they'll be back. I've called the alarm company and they're going to put in a window alarm for us. The cops think the stuff will show up in the pawn shops.

EWWW! This is so disturbing.
