Izzy welcome back and sorry to hear about your resp. infection. :-(
As far as getting back on track: maybe starting a food diary would work for you? We all know how we have to eat and exercise to see results as we've all done that before successfully! We need to OWN our bodies and not let tempting foods own us. What I've started to do again is get on the danged scale every morning, even if I know weight might be up...that is one way to keep myself accountable, and it keeps the goal in my head every morning. Another is to get rid of my clothes that are too loose, making a backslide very expensive HAHA.
I've not been doing as well as in the past as I'm still getting used to my new routine and still miss my kids away at school.
I'm starting to walk more again, which I know produces results. I walked about 6 miles yesterday and today have already put in 20 minutes (a mile?) and will do it again this afternoon. The weather here is wonderful for walking - sunny and on the cool side.

Tomorrow I go for an echocardiogram to see how my heart valve is doing. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I have been having palpitations, especially when I walk on my treadmill. I have been keeping my speed down and trying to go for a longer time to avoid the palpitations. I started taking Slo Mag a week or so ago and I don't know if it's my imagination or not but it seems it is helping. I had read online that palpitations can be caused by low magnesium levels. I don't know if I've ever had them checked. The bottle says to take 2/day but I'm only taking one until I can ask the cardiologist about it. I don't see him for another month, unless they find something bad tomorrow, in which case they will either move my appointment up or do some different testing. I just go from one medical problem to another and I'm sick of it! I'm also having gyne problems again, but I'm waiting til I find out what they area going to do about my heart before I call the gyne and get her started too! Maybe they will put me in the hospital and they can both work on me at the same time! A two-fer! LOL I'll bet my insurance provider hates me!
Also, I'm thinking about starting Weight Watchers. At least doing one month to see if it will work for me. I would hate to pay for it and then end up in the hospital and not be able to go.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all the great advise and I will take it. Andi as always you are a force to reckon with. You put us all to shame. Keep up the great work.
Carol Sue, have you gone to the doctor yet? I hope everything is alright. I think trying something new like WW is good. I am signing up for Zumba classes twice a week...soon. I hope it motivates me to get back on track.
The holidays will soon be upon us, and we all know what that means. So let us get a head start and maybe the holidays will be rocking.
ok, time to turn in. Must work tomorrow and oh I am much better, thanks.

I went for the echo but haven't heard anything from the doctor. I have an appointment in October to discuss the results, but I thought if there was a problem other than the ones we know about they would call me. No call yet.
I joined WW and so far I am doing good. I forgot to weight myself before I went and I think their scale is higher than mine because I weighed the next day at home and was down 7 lbs. LOL I don't think so! So I won't really know how much I lost until Wednesday. I would like to lose about 5 lbs the first week. It is helping me to make better choices and eat smaller portions. No going back for seconds like I usually do. I have a bad habit of grabbing something here and there in between meals and now I think twice about that because I have to add it into my points. I am tracking points plus also entering the food into Fitday. That shows me the calories, and it's coming out around 1500 calories per day, but they are healthy calories. Lots of veggies and few starchy carbs. Smaller portions of protein than I am used to. Watching the fat. It's just another way to watch your calorie intake. I have decided to only go for the one month I've paid for and then try to continue on my own. I can't justify spending $42.95 per month for someone to weigh me and give me a pep talk. I know that the meetings are supposed to be very helpful in keeping you in line, but I think that's too much money. At least the first month you get the program information and points calculator. If this is going to help me cut back on my eating, it's money well spent....just not every month. They are telling me I have 60 lbs or so to lose to become a lifetime member and be able to go for free. That is going to come to hundreds of dollars over the months. I can't do that on Social Security, nor do I want to. I did poorly on Weight Watchers twice in the past but this time I seem to have the mind set.
Izzy - I hope you like Zumba. The people I know who go to classes all seem to enjoy it. It is a very energetic form of exercise. I like to exercise at home, and I was trying to find a beginner Zumba DVD to use at home, but all I see is sets that are costly.
Is you stomach infection getting better? I hope so.
Andi - Are you getting used to the empty nest? Just think. Soon they will be home for the holidays and then you'll have to brace yourself for them leaving again.
Good Morning Everyone
Carol Sue, its great you joined WW and I am sure you will do well. Have you checkout WW online to see if it is cheeper? Now you are on your way and thats important. The 60 pounds take it 1 pound at a time, I too have 60 pounds to lose but at least you have started the proccess. I have not yet started the Zumba class, it turns out that it is at noon on the day I have to be at work. I have the DVD's and can start with that, but I need a class to help get me started. Now about your echo, I am praying that it turns out fine.
Andi how are you doing? Are you finding more time to do somethings you want. I know you miss your children, but this is a great time to find your new you. Well hugs to all & have a great weekend.
Izzy
It is a beautiful day here in Virginia and I actually just got back from a 1.50 mile walk and I feel good. I forgot how good it actually makes me feel. Well it is my first step to reclaiming my health and getting back on track. I am going to try and make it a habit at least 3 times a week and do zumba in between. I am going to start using the tools that are at hand and available to all to reach my first goal of losing 10lbs. So today I face my reality and here it is:
Weight:226.....................................lon g term goal:165
Height:5'4"
BMI:36.6
Age:56
Health problem:
high cholosterol
high blood pressure
borderline diabetic
Hypothyroid
Not a very pretty picture for a bright and sunny future. Its past time to regain control of my body and life. No time to waste, every minute, every meal, counts. Time to stop making excuses and just do it.
Ok thats my pep talk and I hope everyone wokeup with a new goal in mind. Please let us not put it of anymore.
Hello BFC Chicks
Things are going well, I walked Sunday & Monday. It is raining here so after work I am doing Zumba. I am also eating better, making better choices and drinking my water. I actually remembered to take my supplements.
Now if I can keep stay focused, I should see some results soon.
Hey! How is everyone? Well off to a doctors appointment for checkup and on to work. I hope all is well and have a great day.
Hi
I Just finished my first Zumba class
I did the beginning class 35 minutes and I thought I was going to passout!
I did not know I was so out of shape. If I can do this 3 times a week, I will definitely lose something. Its fun, but hard. I loved it!
Went to the doctor for followup this morning and I had lost a pound sense
Friday. I hope next week will be a good weigh in. I really need it.
Ok, better cleanup the kitchen.
Carol Sue, glad you joined Weight Watchers! I did that a while ago and lost some weight with it...I think the accountability is what makes it successful. When you KNOW you have to weigh in every week, it's easier to pass on second helpings! Hope everything turns out well with your test results.
Izzy, good to hear from you again, and you sound so upbeat! I love Zumba but don't go on a regular basis...it's offered at the local rec center but it's later than I like to go so I use that as an excuse. :-( I really believe that exercise AND diet is the key to losing weight.
I've been walking at least once a day but need to step it up to what I used to do. Also have been working from home 3 days a week which I'm still not used to - throws my schedule off or something.
My older son will be home tonight for a brief visit but leaves tomorrow.
Since I'm by myself most of the time now, I've not been eating as well as I should and even stay up too late...it's weird, but taking care of the house/kids added structure or something. I really need to work on my self-discipline and then the eating/exercising/other good habits will fall in place (hopefully!).

Izzy - You are doing so well with your exercise. Walking and Zumba classes will give you variety so you don't get bored with it. By now you are probably sore from the Zumba class. When you first start out you use muscles you didn't know you had! LOL I am still trying to find a beginners DVD that can be bought by itself, not in a set. I might find one online or at a flea market.
I lost 5.4 lbs the first week of Weight Watchers. That is the whoosh of water weight you always lose when you first start out, and I know I will not be losing that every week. I noticed that some people there only lose a 10th of a pound, or 1 half pound. Every little bit helps, as long as the scale is going down. I would like 2 pounds per week, but I will take what I get. Looking up the points on different foods keeps me from eating them. If they seem high, I look for another choice with fewer points. It's basically the same as counting calories. Things with protein or fiber are lower, and things with fat and carbohydrates are higher.
I am going to do the first month then continue on my own. The meetings don't seem to help me. They mostly discuss foods that they have found that are low in points, and in most cases they are snacks and desserts. You probably remember that I said I am not into sweets, but eat too much at my meals. Chicken is healthy, but if you eat too much, you get fat! It is my own determination that is keeping me on track. It is cheaper online, but I tried that before and it has nothing to offer me. The whole idea is that the meetings are supposed to give you encouragement and ideas, and some people probably need that. All I wanted was to get the points calculator and other materials they give you at the first meeting. I gave the meetings a chance and don't feel that they contributed to my loss. They weren't worth $42.95 per month. Know what I mean? I know they say that the people who attend the meetings lose the most weight. I just don't see it.
What's up with you, Andi? I haven't seen a post from you for a couple weeks. Everything OK?

Andi, good to "see" you! We must have been posting at the same time! I'm glad to see you're keeping up with your exercise and getting back in the swing of things now that your kids have gone back to school.
As I said in my post, the accountability part of WW is not worth $42.95 per month for me. I am just determined not to go over my daily points allowance. The last time I did WW my points were used up by lunch time, LOL. My head just wasn't into it. I'm in the mode this time, and it makes all the difference. Somehow, the idea of counting points is working for me, where counting calories did not. Also, my DIL is doing WW too, and I don't want to look bad by failing.
We all seem to be doing well. Let's help each other keep at it!
Good to hear from all of you and its exciting that everyone is being active and posting their success. Sometimes it takes awhile to get your head back into the losing mode, but it is great when you do.
Carol Sue Congrats on the 5.4 pounds loss way to go! Keep up the great work and WW is a good program. But just like you, I did not find the meetings that great. In fact they were boring.
Andi working from your home is the hardest thing to do, I have been doing it for about 16 years. One day a week I work in a retirement community doing manicures & pedicures for the residents. It gives me the break from being at home. I find it hard when i AM AT HOME TO EAT REGULARLY & healthy.
Now for the Zumb, just the warmup the first time like to have killed me , but it has gotten easier. I have been walking every other day and zumba on other days. I want to keep changing it up from time to time.
The most important thing is consistency. Well everone have a good weekend and lets see if we can try and stay BFC the whole weekend. Good Luck!!
Hey Laadies,
I just got lucky and found my complete Zumba kit I ordered last year. I have been using a Zumba DVD that for my wii. This is what I should be doing in Zumba:First Week
Day1-Zumba Basic followed by Total Body Stretch
Day2-Zumba Basic followed by Total Body Stretch
Day3-Zumba 20 Minute Express
Day4-Free Day
Day5-Zumba 20 Minute Express
Day6-Free Day
Day7-Zumba 20 Minute Express
Weeks 2 & 3
Day1-Zumba Cardio Party, followed by Total body stretch
Day2-Zumba Sculpt & Tone, followed by Zumba Flat Abs
Day3-Zumba Cardio Party, followed by Total Body Stretch
Day4-Free Day
Day5-Zumba Cardio Party, followed by Total body stretch
Day6-Zumba Sculpt & Tone, followed by Zumba Flat Abs
Day7-Zumba Cardio Party, followed by Total body stretch
Day8-Free Day
Day9-Zumba LIVE!
Day10-Zumba Sculpt & Tone, followed by Zumba Flat Abs
If I can do this, I should be down a size or 2 and hopefully 10lbs.
I plan to walk on my free days and maybe 1 or 2 other days. I just have to see how it goes. I have decided to give myself a little icons for each 5lbs. lost, walking and each week of exercise I complete, to help motivate myself.
Question: does anyone know the carb/sugar count for the "2 minute cake" in a mug in the pdf of Jorge's new "Slim Happy Belly"? thank you.... I've been trying to email Jorge but he must be so busy with the new program he has started..... BTW it is awesome! yum.... )
