Oh ~ NC Nancy ~ I was thinking ~ don't let your DSD get to you. Her little comment that maybe the GG's just didn't like you ~ was just plain mean. Seems like she knows just how to push your buttons. Maybe you shouldn't share the things said here with her. We love you and have enjoyed having you be a part of us.
Well, I posted my sob story about the pool tournament on our FB page so I won't repeat. I sure wish I had won a medal. On the other hand, I did better than I expected. Hopefully, the new techniques will become a solid habit and I will be playing really well for the fall season.
I didn't go shopping because one of my very good friends called and needed to talk. (counselor Val to the rescue) In the end, I was tired and it was so hot (100) that I headed for home.
Tonight we are taking pictures at the old barn. I got some cleaner and some caulk so I plan on recaulking the tub tomorrow. I also didn't get my nails and toes done yesterday so I will try to get that done. When I stopped at Home Depot, my aunt who works there didn't recognize me until I got really close to her. She kept saying, "I can't believe its you!" LOL
Karen3, you crack me up! i wrote that quote down so I don't lose it.
Gayle, it sounds like you are having a good weekend. Cool! And, I think we GG's need a pool next to our hot tub. That way each of us will be comfortable with our favorite temperature! I like to run back and forth....
Lynn, sorry that the cortisone afterburn is kicking in. On a good note, it will be better for your race. Thanks for the link to the presidential fitness award. I am so excited! Try to take it easy on your training as far as impact, ok? You can then get back on schedule...
Mary, your eating plan sounds great and I am happy that you like it. Each of us has our own way. For myself, I want to eat solid meals and not mini-meals. But I have a friend who loves the mini meal system. So glad that it is working for you.
WannaBe, you betcha, little changes are what gets this done!
Rosey, yup, he brings you flowers. In my experience, most men are total babies when they don't feel good. I am really enjoying the gizmo stories.
Marie, I love the image of you "ripping" up a cd. I'm afraid that would mean something else for me. I can smell your bread baking. And of course, you can create a healthy and yummy lunch. I have not figured out how to tolerate the smell of bread baking. I could eat the entire loaf. I'm with you, though on enjoying the cooking experience and the eating experience. It is about respecting food and respecting ourselves.
Mustang Karen, that Ginger is such a character!
Gayle, hang in there at work. I suppose that your heart is best served by helping when you can. Hopefully you can find some satisfaction in helping others without feeling the loss too much yourself.
Nancy, I hope that you are feeling more rested. On your behalf, I think that houseguest of yours sounds like a turdblossom.
Zoe, I hope you are enjoying the weekend.
Tea Granny and others, thinking of you.
I'm off to fix up my makeup before pictures. Night all!
Just finished talking to my sister...she is 77 and she said is also still having hot flashes!! She doesn't have the tingling though...just the heat and sweat. I still have the tingling but I do notice that it happens less often now and some are just the heat/sweat too. I think it is strange to have them so long but my gyn says it happens to a lot of women. My regular doc just keeps saying, well you know they will end in time...ha ha...and I say, oh yeah, when? And he changes the subject.
Karen3 - love the quote!
Nancy - I agree with the others, what you dsd said is just plain mean and sounds like is just trying to upset you! I try to ignore mean people but living with one makes it very difficult.
Rie - I realize the way I eat is not for everyone. Left to my own devices I'd snack all day and night and wouldn't keep it to 100 cal either! After I retired I said I had one big meal...all day long. So you can see why this works for me. As long as my tummy is full or I'm too busy to think about eating, I'm fine. I really hope I can get past this in time! My sister says she is rarely hungry and my dh is that way too.
Perhaps some of you will remember the issue we have with the loan we have on our son's house (stupid, stupid I know, but don't get me started on that!). Maybe you also remember that we were to get an escrow check refund. Never heard of such a thing but after the thousands we have poured into his house I was happy and looking forward to it. Well, it didn't come and I finally got my son to answer my calls/texts and found out he threw away the form it was attached to! But he did find it (thank God they tend to let the trash pile up!) and he sent it to us. Well, it's been over a week and I'm calling/texting again but he won't answer. Finally today I get a hold of him and he says he put the wrong zip code on the envelope so it was returned. I know how careless he is sometimes so I had emphasized to write clearly and make sure our address was correct and also to put his return address on it. He knows he zip code so he just didn't write it correctly. Well at least he did get his return address on it so it was returned to him. Still I was kinda irritated with him and told him to be sure and send it by Monday. He's like yeah, yeah, yeah, why are you making such a big deal about this, mom? Of course I reminded him that every time he calls and asks for help if at all possible we respond immediately and do what he wants, and I think he should respect us enough to do the same when we rarely ask him for anything. You'd think he'd understand. Kids!! Will they ever grow up? The Bible warns not to do this (guaranty a loan for someone) and believe me, if I had it to do over again I wouldn't!
Having a little fun here, then off to bed shortly. I got two of the continuing ed things done ~ had hoped to get one more, but took a nap (didn't get much sleep last night) and got a later than anticipated start. Nothing much really going on tomorrow, so I should be able to knock out the last 5. I have actually enjoyed the learnings.
Good Morning GG's Thanks for the encouragement. I sure wish I was around more, but things are just so crazy around here. Trying to stay on plan - I'm finding it hard with all of the stuff that comes with summer socializing. I'm thinking that I'll be doing great if I maintain for the summer, and not gain anything. My weight loss is sooooooo slow, 2-3 pounds a month. I know it is the safe and healthy way to do this, and I know that all of the exercise is building muscle. Maybe I'll just follow Zoe's advice and quit weighing for a while and just go by how my clothes fit. I do know that I an thinner and stronger that I was before at this weight ( years ago ) I'm afraid that if I don't weigh in that the Evil Fat Fairy will visit me in the night and leave me a few pounds that I won't catch until they start to multiply - the scale keeps me honest I guess. Well I am off to my native plant class - Lambsquarters (goosefoot) is food!- almost perfect food!- who knew! I have been tearing it and Mallow out of my garden for years! Love the course!
Have a great day Ladies, and thanks for the encouragement!
I did my team training this morning & my knee held up VERY well. Later today, my DD and SIL and I are looking at a house on the Delaware River in a little town in NJ – just across the river from us. I would LOVE it if they move near me when they sell their B&B. I HATE the thought of them moving to FL.
Check back later,
Lynn

I would really like to start to jog or run but I am absolutely forbidden to do any high impact activity. They tell me that I need a total knee replacement But, I can walk! Thanks for your encouragement and help. I haven't told anyone but you guys about this. It is such a change from last fall.
Hi Rie,
Yesterday (day after shot) my knee was pretty tender. I iced it and kept it elevated. Today, it seems OK. Held up pretty well during the training walk – I didn’t run. Walking is MUCH better for you than running. The only reason I need to run is because I can’t walk fast enough. To keep from being swept, I need to do some running.

Hi Nancy,
Sometimes, we just need to be silent. Glad to have you check in anyway.

Woke up at 6am and couldn’t go back to sleep. Oh well, if I get tired later, I can take a nap. Funny how for kids “nap” is not a good thing, but now I welcome it sometimes.
Hi Gayle,
Sorry you weren’t feeling good. Glad you are off for the weekend. I LOVE my afternoon naps.

It’s been a few years since I talked about it with them, but I thought I’d mention it.
Hi Marie,
Yes, I have heard the same thing about limiting the cortisone shots. I don’t plan on getting any more. I just need to get through this September half marathon and then I can baby it to avoid most of the discomfort.

Hi Rosey,
I think men are typically bad patients – at least this was true with the men in my life. They whine, complain, get nasty, and are non-compliant. Let’s ask our nurses about men patients. Do you agree?

Many people see timeshares as scams, and probably some are but we have been very happy with ours and enjoyed so many vacations we never would have thought we would experience starting from when I youngest kids were home. In fact I feel that buying the timeshares is really what got us started traveling. We bought them back in the 80s when we were both working and now are so glad to have them, all paid off of course. My only regret is that we made payments on them but then we did for most everything in those days...I'd never live like that again...so it's not the timeshares...it's that way of life I regret. About the shape we are in...yeah I say the same thing.
Hi Mary,
I am going to look into these companies. My DD and SIL and I LOVE to travel. Thank you for the information.

Good Morning, All…
I feel like I’ve been away for months!! This could be a long one…
Bobbi – did you finally get some relief from the migraines? Those are very pesky, aren’t they?, and they don’t seem to want to separate from you (migraine separation anxiety, perhaps?). I hope you’re feeling better! And I’m interested, too, in hearing the saga of KarenMO’s InsignificantOther DH. It might be later in the posts… I was interested in the comment about getting notices for new posts… I’ve NEVER had a notice, and I subscribe to the thread.
Rosey – I smiled at your post about getting the brunt of the puppy duties, while DH gets away with murder and a bouquet of flowers! I can just see the grin on his face and the glint in his eye, too! How did Sadie do at the cabin? Are Gizmo and Daisy fast friends? How long with the nieces be with you? I hope your DH is feeling a lot perkier!
Nancy – oh, I do hope you’re feeling better! Seems like the entire world conspired to make you unhappy on Thursday! Okay, let’s get this DWCC thing out of the way. YOU are not being rejected. This, however, is to be a haven for us single-by-choice ladies who are sharing the wealth because there’s not enough to go around, otherwise. The primary focus is “single-by-choice”, and if you want to be with SO or anyone else, please do enjoy. And please do visit us. And please stop letting your DSD either read our posts or stop telling her about our posts. It’s none of her business. And, further remember that the DWCC is a FANTASY.
Rie – did Sean get home okay and in good health? You asked about our storm on Wednesday. Yet, it was a doozie! All the slimy roofers were out in force yesterday, trying to drum up business. Bah! It’s Colorado. Of course, there’s hail damage on the roof!
Freda – my sister went to the Hemophilia Clinic on Thursday and got a humongous coagulant booster shot. So far, so good…. And I so agree with you that a visit to Rosey’s would be a fun thing! I think we should go to see her, en masse! I’d like to do the scavenger hunts and play with the puppies! Rosey, what do you think? Think DH would still bring you flowers, if we did? (Don’t panic! This is fantasy!).
Marie – you sounded so serene after your wonderful early-morning walk with the dogs (loved the picture, too!).
Lynn – hope the cortisone shot works for you! You’re way too active to be laid low by some stinkin’ pain! I have a Panera Bread close by, have never been there, but that salad you described sounds DELICIOUS!!
Gayle – are you feeling better, I hope?
PT/Zoe – I love the kitty stories from you and Lynn. My SamCat is nearly perfect in every way. He knows that “Sammy, NO, give me 15 more minutes” means to shut up and let me sleep. He knows to move out of the way, so I can roll onto my stomach and get myself out of bed without the hip screaming. If he had a full mouthful of teeth, he would be perfect; as it is, he has a snaggle tooth on the right side, and that’s it for teeth, pretty much. Being part Siamese, he’s very vocal and chats with me. Since he thinks he’s a pup, he follows me around all day, and my lap is Velcro to him! I love him!!!
KarenMO (aka MustangKaren (love it!!) – your darling divas are too cute! And what IS the poop 'n scoop on the InsignificantOtherLesserHusband??
Mary – in the time I’ve been lost in VirusLalaland, I apparently missed your new diet. Can you please give me some basics? It sounds like something that would be very good for me, too. Is it something formal or is it something you came up with on your own? When it comes to YOUR finances, your son might be an idiot!
KarenFL – I love, love, love, LOVE that quote and am considering having it tattooed on my withered left bosom, under “shut up, you could be working at Wendy’s”. And how are you feeling? I see that your sense of humor is intact!
TeaGranny – how is your son??
The end of the posts. We have a couple of newbies! Welcome! I hope you stick with us, because it’s a great group!
This computer virus I picked up (way under the radar of my virus scans) was nasty, nasty! It attacks the operating system. All my documents (business and personal) were gone, and it would take it upon itself to just shut down. My ComputerGod was able to access it remotely (what a cool thing THAT is!) and pretty much fixed it. Some stuff really was damaged, and I can no longer run Firefox, Google search is bonky, and some of my favorite games are no more, won’t run. But, on the other hand, I’m not willing to strip the hard drive and then reinstall all the programs (ALL the programs). I’ll learn to live with this disability and figure that the computer just had a little stroke. It was pretty ugly, but ComputerGod did a good job recovering the important stuff.
Nothing much to report from these last few days. Local brother and his wife are leaving town tomorrow for a week, so he won’t be around to go to Granny/Mom’s doc appointment on Wednesday. I hope he’s a good doc, not some demi-god creep; I need some ANSWERS.
Glad to be back in the fold…. if I missed anyone, I apologize! Later, my lovelies!!
It is a bright and clear morning here and it is going to be very hot but it is just warming up. I did one hour and 20 minutes of toning/strength/aerobic routine this morning. I actually slept late so I got a whole late start but it was nice. Son surprised me with a new kinda low carb version of my beloved german pancakes. Yummy. I have the water soaking in the garden and I will be picking the first cucumbers of the season tonight.
Donna, glad to see you back on the air. Sorry about your computer troubles. I use carbonite auto backup and I really love it. Because, it not only saves documents, it saves games too. It only costs about $50 per year. It has already saved me once so I love it. Glad sister is ok and I hope you have a good and informative Granny/Mom appt. BTW, my ex dh was a roofer in Denver when I was in grad school. I have never encountered such a troop of crazy, drugging, thugs before or since - and I work with criminals! PS, he fit right in
Lynn, I am glad that your training went well this morning. I hope the sil and dd stay close!
Tea Granny, Lambsquarter? Really? I can't imagine. Please share more. Lambsquarter, and red-root pigweed are the bane of the existence of beet farmers! I would love to make a salad and present it to my dad. LOL Truthfully, I might get a kick out of eating something that I spent most of my childhood pulling and hoeing!
Gayle. Hey, good job on the continuing ed stuff. That will be a load off your mind when you finish
Mary, I am so sorry about the continuing problems with the loan. Hopefully, it will get resolved soon. How is the new plan holding up? I am so grateful that I am over the hot flashes! Sorry that you are still going through that. Hopefully it will end soon. I have always said that if more dr's were male, we would have better help for hotflashes, cramps, and other female stuff. Men would never tolerate it!
Lin, I was just looking at your tracker and I can't believe how much progress you have made in such a short time! Way to go!
Ok, I will be back later. Gonna go re-grout the tub this afternoon. One week and counting til my vacation! BBL for the rest of personals.
Rosey, the joy of doggies is that they are so stinkin’ cute that we put up with the fur, mud, drooling, etc. Doggies are so worth it.
Lynn, I’m glad your knee is better and you were able to train. I love your comment about men that are sick. They are whiny, aren’t they?
Mary, I bought a yucky bread machine once and it over-baked the outside of the bread. I think it was an oster. I bought the Ultimate Breadmachine from Amazon and I love it. It’s the second one I have. DH killed the first when he was doing electrical work. Certainly wasn’t the bread machine’s fault. It kept beeping at him and he ignored it… BTW, my co-worker does WorldMark and loves it. Keeps buying more. I think soon he won’t need a house. about the loan difficulties with your son. I try to treat my kids equally but I have learned the hard way that I can loan/co-sign with my daughter and with NEVER do so for my son again. It’s hard to know I have different standards but their response to my money is what has create the difference. It sure is hard, isn’t it?
KarenFL, very true quote.
Wannabe, great job on the changes.
Rie, love “turdblossom”. It’s so cool to come here and get new sayings. Did I get that right? You don’t like the smell of baking bread? I nearly salivate at the smell. Nothing food-wise smells as good to me. And what is your DS recipe for German Pancakes? I’m guessing they are Pannakuchens – which I had for breakfast today. DH and I split one made with peaches. ROFL at the ex-dh and fitting in with thugs.
Oh Tea, I so know the worry of the evil fat fairy. I stopped weighing daily and I know it was a mistake and I’m now frightened of the scale. Someday I’m going back to weighing daily but not yet. Can you hear my denial all the way to Canada?
Donna, glad you have the basics of your computer functioning again. Our district network was infected in January. I’m still finding corrupted files and it took us two weeks to disinfect. BTW, ours came in through a PDF. Apparently it is the new and sneaky was to infect computers. PDFs have Java ability and can be “interactive” so corrupt Java scripts can be embedded and voila, destruction of computers.
My house is clean – at least as clean as it can get with four shedding huskies. The pool party will probably be an “in my house” party since our weather stinks. I did finish my new Billy Joel concert exercise video yesterday and enjoyed it while I didn’t want to be on the elliptical. Tomorrow is my follow-up with the allergist asthma specialist. I do have questions as I’m not getting better. I made my DD’s b-day cake for the party. It’s low-fat and delicious. No added fat but it is made with sugar (sorry Rie). It’s Mint Fudge and is the moistest cake I’ve ever had. I decided lo-cal would be fine for the neighbors. I’m so non-social why I decided to have a pool party is beyond me. And now there won’t be swimming. I am not looking forward to this. Going back to work tomorrow sounds like more fun. Marie
I'm about to go do my bargain shopping...but thought I'd stop and chat for just a bit. We went to church and then to McDonalds for lunch. My eating plan seems to work ok with fast food as long as I'm careful. We got our usual regular hamburgers (each), shared small fries (I'm only taking 1/3 now) and a senior drink. Today since it was my main meal, I also got a side salad. I only dribble a very tiny bit of Ranch on it...maybe a teaspoon. This is my first time (on this plan) to go 4 hours between meals, but I don't get so hungry during the earlier part of the day, so it was ok.
Marie & Lynn- When is your "pool" party? I hope it turns out great...try to relax and just enjoy it. Usually if one does that others do too. Thanks for the tip on the bread machine. I'll check into it. Of course right now I eat very little bread, so might not be worth it but later on I'm sure I will increase my grains/starchy carbs. Lynn, of the two companies I would more recommend WorldMark. The reason is I feel they have perhaps weathered the recession a little better. VI though is hanging in there and looks like it will be ok. The recession has been rough on these companies just like other businesses. When we travel to the mid-west this fall we will be staying in one of our WM condos for part of the trip. And we will also soon be going to the WA coast for a few days to stay in one. If we stop using our RV we will depend more and more on them. Both these companies are mostly in the west coast states although they are spreading out and WM even has some international locations...I can't remember where you are, Lynn, but there might not be any in your local area. Of course you can join RCI and go pretty much all over (stateside and international) by exchanging through them.
Rie - It's great to have a son who can cook! Our oldest son cooks and he and his gf share the cooking. I use Carbonite too. Haven't had any "save" yet but I'm glad to know it's working.
Donna - About my "diet" I asked my pastor last Sunday how he lost so much weight. He told me Medifast. I looked them up online and decided they are too expensive for me! But I downloaded the file for diabetics and put together my own way of doing it. I explained more on FB for you so won't go into it again. It's very simple and as long as I have another meal however small to look forward too my tummy's pretty happy. The hardest part is the evening when I know I have to go overnight without anything more (after my last mini-meal) but surprisingly it hasn't been too difficult so far.
Tea Granny - I dread big meals...buffets, potlucks even just going out to a regular restaurant...even eating at someone else's house! I'm so afraid I'll blow it because I so often have! So far with my new way of eating, I have survived fast food so I feel ok there...but I'm sure it will soon be put to the test with other events.
Hello everyone. It was a very nice day here today. Enjoyed it.. Went to church and then met my older brother and my Aunt at Bob Evans for lunch. I had an omelet and it was good-- probably way too much to eat at one time but I haven't wanted anything else to eat tonight.
About the idiot, uh second hubby, I had his lawyer send divorce papers to my Dad's house in MO., he then sent them to me, I signed and then sent them back to my Dad with an addressed, stamped envelope and my Dad mailed it back to the lawyer...He never found me and I've never heard another word from or about him. He was such a jerk!! We never had a car while we were together and I walked to work and back, which was about 1 1/2 miles each way. I was going to go to the bank one day while I was off work and he said (he worked nights) "I have timed it and it takes exactly 23 minutes minutes to walk there and back. So giving the time it takes to do the business you will be back here in in 28 minutes or you will have some explaining to do!" Yeah, he was a real nice guy! I started putting money away, actually I pulled out the dresser in the bedroom and lifted part of the carpet up so I could hide money under there. I still didn't have enough saved up to leave when I had to get a restraining order on him, which believe it or not, after the court gave me the restraining order, he set there in the lobby waiting for me to leave so he could "talk" to me--- I went back in to the court room and told the public defender and he came out and made him leave, then drove me home and went through my house before he would let me go in. It was after that when Tim came to get me. And the social services gave me $50 gas voucher then which was used to put in Tims van and got us out of town!
I enjoy watching soaps (all My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital) but my goodness I think I could write a story about what has happened with me and my family, sell it to the TV network, and people would sit back and say "this doesn't happen in real life!" LOL!!! Crazy huh!!
We went looking at more 5th wheel rv's today.. I know... It is so nice to be able to travel with your own home.. Right now we are hoping to be able to go back east to a "cousin party" or as someone here, I think it was Bobbi, said a Family rebellion. Still waiting to see when the final dates are for it. And we still have our oldest son in Colorado that we want to get out and see again too. I think the RV is something Tim really enjoys and as long as he knows I won't be driving while pulling it, I can enjoy it too. And we still have lots of exploring we want to do of places we have never been to. We talk about visiting Florida and also Arizona---so who knows--- will keep everyone updated on that too. The one we looked at today is a 2006 but it has been very well taken care of and even still looks new! It is a little smaller than the last one we had but still has 2 slideouts which makes it nice when you stop. But is lighter to tow. Again-- the life and times of Mustang Karen!!! HA!
OK, I didn't get to personals tonight-- still need to check out the FB page and see what is happening over there. Hello to everyone and have a great evening!!
