Hello Ladies! Happy Memorial Day

Well, I was home all day today so there were no big temptations for me. The weather is just too wet and cold here for barbques or whatever. I am usually camping or fishing this weekend every year but not this year.

I ate sparingly today and did ok. I am going to do a brief aerobic workout on the wii tomorrow so I hope that this injured knee doesn't complain too much. It's hard to believe but I really miss it. But, I am following Dr orders - I have waited a week and now some gentle movement should start to help the healing.

Mary, I hear ya. Sometimes the grandkids can be exhausting. I am glad that I had my babies when I was young so I had energy. My 4yrold gs that lives with me doesn't wear me out- I think because he is here all the time and I don't work so hard to entertain him.

Gayle, the sweet tooth thing is a killer. The only way that I know how to deal with it is to indulge it with very small amounts of the things I love. Tonight the carbs we had planned for supper (a 1/3c of corn) got burned and were not edible. I ate a miniature reeses cup instead. Probably ok as far as carbs and calories but not for nutrients. But, I sure enjoyed it as that candy melted on my tongue. Pure heaven

Rosey, that sounds like a really big bear! One of my friends bear hunts every year and I keep trying to talk him out of a bearskin. Hopefully I will get one some time. Beautiful moose - but I'm sure you know to be careful. The ones down here have bad tempers!

This week I am going to try to get the bass boat ready in case I can get on a lake any time soon. I also start pool league on Wednesday and I am really excited about that. I really am anxious to get back playing again.

Lynn, I heard that movie wasn't very good. I hope you had a good time anyway.
Have a terrific evening.

Good Morning Girlies,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial day. I had to work, but got the oportunity to thank a few vets for serving. They were 2 really funny old men that are in our unit right now. They were a riot and had such good attitude. Shows that it's not really age, it's attitude. The BBQ for DGD was ok for awhile but then we got a tornado warning and had to take all the kids into the basement. Lots of pouring rain and high winds but, Thank you God, no touchdown. I did over eat at the BBA, but just a bit. I didn't have any dessert either, but lots of the fruit salad. Oh, one little forkfull (really, just a small forkfull) of mounds cake, because one of the ladies had made one and wanted me to taste it.

Lynn, Sorry the movie was a bust! Movies are so expensive any more. When I go I want a good one.

Bobbi, I hope the collar helps with the headaches. Have they mentioned botox yet? I'm looking forward to seeing those gardens when they are in full bloom. My grandma always had a little patch of ruebarb that always came back every year. It's sour and bitter but I always liked it. I would cut a big stalk and eat it raw.

Gayle, Enjoy your day off. Looks like you and miss mattie are having fun. It is hard to turn down sweets. I have a rule. I take one small bite of anything, and it's not really special (and you know most things are just ordinary and you will have them again) I just don't eat the rest. Yeah, brownies are good, but you will have lots of opportunity to eat brownies later, when you are more fit and healthy.

Mary, I baby sit the grands 2 days a week, sometimes more, take them to all their games. Yeah, they wear us out! ha! Someone said they keep you young. I sure don't feel young after a full day with them. I just feel tired. But they do get me out doing things I wouldn't ordinarially do. Like ride my bike and play soccer and baseball.

Rosie, Your DGD is adorable and tell her I think she did a great job with the shoes.

Donna, It's nice to be able to have family reunions and really enjoy them. I love mine dearly, and really LIKE most of them too. But there are a few I could do withough and try to just walk away. Guess every mix has a few bad apples. You must really have had fun to forget dessert! As for the heat, you are the same as me! I always tell people you can always add clothes, there is only so much you can take off. I can just see people going into shock when I start stripping! ha!

Rie, I'm going to find some stevia. I didn't know it was even available. And believe me, the mint will take over. Hope you like it in your tea. Yummy salad. I make it pretty often too, just throw in whatever veggies I have handy. Last well in the fridge. I keep a big salad of some kind in the fridge all summer.

Not much going on today. Fine with me, got enough excitement for awhile.

Goodmorning GG's,

It is kind of overcast here today. Gotta head out for a bike ride before it gets too hot.

Here are a couple pictures of my box projects I was telling about back along. One is in bookcases (kind of like a room divider) being used for storage, the other is in the bathroom. It makes a place to keep stuff but doesn't look cluttery. I used those plastic table cloths and gift wrap to cover the boxes (just the front and sides that show) and decorate. I have fun

Be back later ~ hope you all are having a good day.

Take care

#1 Bookcase/room divider ~ before #2 bookcase/room divider ~ after
#3 Bathroom shelf ~ after (I tried to put the before pic, but got a message that the size was too big and that the computer couldn't resize it ~ that I would have to do it manually and I didn't know how) It was done with the Corona boxes also ~ they were the perfect size.

Hi Everyone,

Nice weekend, but I ate WAY TOO MUCH. I really didn't feel very good last night. My body is not used to too many fats and sweets.

VERY hot here again. My AC is cooling the condo, but running too much. They are supposed to come back today or tomorrow to put in some new piece.

Have a GREAT day,

Lynn

Hi GGs! This chicky has returned to the fold after a brutally hot long weekend (got in last night at @ 6:00) up in the not-so-white Mountains of New Hampshire. In fact, there’s been so much rain throughout New England over the past month or more that everything is growing like crazy – all the wild stuff, that is. Domestic crops have been significantly delayed because of all the rain. So, I was hoping for a sunny weekend, and we got that for the most part, but along with sun came some really icky humidity – too hot and humid, in fact, to do too much (VERY lethargic barbecuing took place) and definitely too hot to spend much time in the sun developing a nice healthy glow. I was outside mostly to pack and unpack the car (Whew) and just to walk on the mostly shaded woods paths. And with just that little exposure, I had a few layers of reddish-brown when I got home – along with a few truly charming mosquito bites. Oh, joy! Fun, though.
Ate a bit more than I should’ve, and like you, Lynn, had a gripey stomach as a result. I won’t weigh myself until I get back from my beach trip two weeks from today. Maybe not even then, if I’m feeling puffy and know I overindulged (which as of right now, I’m not planning to do).
VERY clever storage ideas, Gayle! That’s really attractive! Maybe someday I’ll develop enough motivation to do something like that myself. Maybe after I retire. Ha ha about that encounter with your son-in-law!!! Sounds like something I’d do…!
Freda, unfortunately, I can’t visualize myself EVER being at a place with my weight where I can eat plenty of brownies – or any other goodies – later. And I’m sooooo bad at limiting quantities! I’m getting slightly (just slightly) better about not bingeing, though…doing a little better with the tasting, and if it’s not absolutely and utterly yummy, don’t go beyond that first bite. You’ve mentioned that once or twice in the past as a technique that you use, and I’ve always thought it made perfect sense. Why spend up a kazillion calories and fat grams and such on something you don’t even find all that enjoyable? So, I’m working on making that change in behavior, and am making some progress. Thanks for planting that in my head! Oh, and Rie….yes…you set a good example of that, as well. ONE miniature Reese’s peanut butter cup???? Now THAT’S self-discipline in action, alright! Wow. I LOVE those things, so there would be no question of stopping at the first bite with me. (Am wondering how many bites you managed to stretch out of one little miniature – or did you savor the whole thing at once? Oooooh. Yummy.)
Mary, grandkiddos wear us all out, I’m sure. I know that one afternoon or evening with those twinnies of ours leaves me longing for a nice 10-hour sleep, which is something that I almost never, ever get. I’m actually walking around like a zombie today – nothing to do with grandkids, just not enough sleep over the weekend in general. But I agree with you about keeping it at shorter visits; at our ages, none of us is equipped to do long-term kid visits. Even when they’re not on the go, they take up every minute of your time with questions and needs and help with one thing or another (Our little guys like visiting our “music corner” and finding themselves guitars or drums or flutes or chimes or shakers…if it makes noise, we’re likely to have it…and we have to join their marching bands…whew!)
Rosey, that bear sounds like something I’d feel okay about never, ever seeing! Yikes! Your granddaughter’s shoes are cute as a button, and so is she. Such a pretty smile!
So glad you enjoyed the family reunion, PT.
Hmmm, Bobbi….sometimes we just have to ignore the doctors and do what makes sense to us. I’m glad the neck brace seems to be giving you some relief.
Nancy, I WISH your trick of cleaning up the kitchen before you allow yourself to eat any more would work for me – but then I’d have to clean the kitchen, and that’s dh’s job at the present time. Maybe I could find something to incorporate into my dinnertime routine though, that didn’t include taking on the cleaning up chores…maybe I’ll try taking my bath and THEN, if I want more to eat, will have it. I don’t know, though – that sounds suspiciously like an evening snack, which is something I definitely DON’T need.
I’m really glad that you’ve cut back on your water intake, Nancy. I hope that ends the swelling problems. I hope you had a nice Memorial Day weekend.
Karens 3 & 31, I hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend and that all are safe, sound and accounted for.

Good morning/afternoon everyone! We saw our gs off today. I am always sad to see him go and yet know I need a rest too. I usualy say age is just a number, but I have to admit last night when I went to bed, I felt VERY old! I feel better this morning though even though I didn't get much sleep. He had an 8:15 flight and of course we had to get up at 5:30 to leave at 6:30 to arrive by 7am "just in case." Dh is a leave early, arrive early and wait kinda guy...and I understand his reasoning and sometimes I'm really glad cause things come up but often it means a lot of waiting.
So now the house is quiet, dh is napping in his recliner and here I am at the computer even though I should be napping too. I ate terrible yesterday and my weight is up again. Up and down I go because of my inconsistency...when will I ever learn...well, so far today I'm OP. Think we will just stay home today, rest and catchup on a few things around the house that we neglected while our gs was here.

Ellabelle - Sounds like you had a nice, restful time. Glad you were able to enjoy it despite the heat.

Lynn - Know what you mean...and you don't want your body to get used to those foods again! Even though I am up and down with my eating/weight, I still notice the difference in how things taste and make me feel. I recently was away from home and hungry so bought some Cheetos....these used to be a favorite esp when traveling...but now they taste too fat (which they are!). They are still kinda good but not worth the fat. Normally I would have eaten the whole small bag but I ate only 1/2. So guess that is progress.

Glynne - like your storage ideas. I love to try to be organized. Never quite make it but keeping trying so like to learn how others do it.

Freda, Riemontana - I admire your discipline!

hi all....Had a quiet weekend and spent much of it the the pool. It is really hot and humid down here. It is 93 now at 6pm. Bless the guy who invented a/c!

Kinda mumbling to myself again. My BF in the whole world's birthday is today. I called her this morning and she was leaving to get her hair done. Fine she called back at 4pm....had said she'd call at 2 and then talked for over an hour about her family especially her brother in law's kids. The last time I saw them they were preschool. Now 29! Had to drag out of her how her husband was.....got all the details of her health issues and long convuluted story about her dog. Which I thought was a new dog(nope had him for 3yrs...same dog new story). Then she had to go because DGS had arrived. After the call I realized I never said a word or was asked about me or my family. I love her dearly but chronic ill health does make you selfcentered.

I forgot to cook Dash's turkey this morning. Just started the pan on the lania and he is puzzled. Since he ate awhile ago. By cooking it outside house stays cooler, smells less like Thanksgiving and no counter greasy feel. Love this new frying pan....it was a 7minute fast start where it browns the meat and then switches self down to what ever temp you want to cook. So skins get browned nicely. It's hugh....holds 8 thighs.

I am not going to weigh in this week...nope...easier to lie to myself without looking at the numbers.

With just cooking for 2 I sometimes get a little queerly in combining left overs, but think I am figuring out a winner. This is all leftovers, 1st combined dab of german potato salad with fresh cooked green beans. That turned up enough for another meal with dab left over and added that to bowl of green beans, field peas and ham. And that got even better. Problem is have no idea of how much of each was added. Guess i blew my chance at a Betty Crocker cook off.....sighhhhhhh

Spent half the day try to figure out why the June stuff wasn't posted yet at my bank site....just figured out it's still May. Lord help me senility is coming fast. later. K3

Good Bye May...glad to see the last of you with your cold weather and rainy days.
KarenFla...too bad you didn't say, sorry we ran out of time....I didn't get a chance to tell you about my family.
