Mary, I don't know where any of our old home movies are - they got lost, somehow, in all the confusion of moving several times since my divorce 10+ years ago. I do have a lot of old photos, though - including some that my mother had of HER mother as a young woman (Very Gibson-girlish) and my mother as a baby. And my own teen and college and young married, etc., years and my own kiddos from baby to now. My (present) DH scanned all of them, and for every *significant* birthday (like my DD's 40th, that we recently celebrated) we do a kind of "this is your life" slide show, which is such fun!Fun, but awfully nostalgic as well - as you said, those younger, slimmer versions of ourselves are pretty amazing, aren't they? Hmmmm. But you know, if somebody offered us the chance to go back in time, I don't believe I'd be interested. The thought of all that work raising kids and working and keeping house, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum exhausts me just thinking about it. I think I'm content to keep my years and the few extra pounds as well!
My cold seems to be getting a little better today - I've been able to sleep fairly well by drinking tea with valerian and chamomile before bed, along with a dose of Nyquil and wearing one of those nose strips that DH wears to inhibit snoring. It keeps the air passages open, and that's what wakes me up when I have a cold - when my nose clogs up, I mean. So, it'll be back to work tomorrow, and that's fine with me. DH's car bit the dust the other day - he has a big 2004 GMC Safari that was great when he was actually transporting stuff - back when he was doing art exhibits and such (we won't get into how that has declined since he retired) but not so useful just for driving to pick up prescriptions and do his little errands. Bottom line is that there's something messed up in the engine, and they told him the repairs were going to be in the ballpark of $3,000. So, it looks like we're buying him another more economical car, although I'm not sure exactly what. The thing is that it means car payments again (the Safari was paid off). So, I told him he needs to get himself a job. Part time is fine, but he needs a regular income aside from his social security and pension. The man is a software engineer who can easily pick up contract work more often than he does. I think he's fallen into a rut, with me working and him piddling around on his own every day. Enough. He's not old enough to rest on his laurels, as far as I'm concerned....we're just about the same age, and I haven't been able to rest on mine, yet!
Okay, enough ranting. My sis is coming to visit on Thursday, and will be staying until the following Thursday. We'll be heading down to Rhode Island to visit our old childhood haunts, and she'll want to spent some time getting to know her great-grand nephews (the little twinnies) and her *regular* (although grand enough, when you come right down to it) nieces and nephews (my dear children). I'm really looking forward to spending some time with her again. We were down there (NC) visiting with her in May, but it seems like years have gone by.
I can't imagine why you haven't lost any weight, Lynn - first being as sick as you were, and now all the healthy eating and loads of exercise! Are you sure your scales are working, for pete's sake? (Or YOUR sake, I mean...)
Rosey, what is your husband? A triathalon athlete? And YOU used to do all that hiking and climbing and dragging and what-have-you, Bobbi? Good grief! I guess I really AM a city girl (although I actually did grow up in the country). That sounds like WAY too much exertion for yours truly! And to him this is FUN, Rosey? Auuuurrrgh.
Freda, I think missed you last time, but you know I luvs you, sweetie. Glad you enjoyed your vacay. (Maybe I already said this? I'm too old to remember, and too lazy to look back over the posts to see).
Hey, Karen31...what's going on? Haven't heard much about anything in your neck of the woods recently. Karen3, I sure hope you get feeling better soon. Being in pain all the time is just not optimum. Have you tried any kind of hypnosis?
PT, you'll only get one happy birthday from me - tomorrow. Once we get past 50, I firmly believe that once a year is sufficient!
Happy birthday, Jane.
Have a happy Sunday, GGs!!!!

Happy Birthday Jane!! I too hope you have added your name to the birthday list.

Happy Anniversary Bobbi!! I hope the two of you have a Wondeful day!!

Going along about the same here. I did get to swim yesterday for about 2 hours... Thought we were going to have to close the pool for the Winter before I got to get in it again but the water was about 82 degrees and it was pretty hot outside so I took advantage.. I know I'm going to have to close it sooner than later but.......

My son and his girlfriend are still here..... I think they may have found a place to rent and will be moving out the first of the month. They found a mobile home (older) that is 3 bedrooms and 2 baths for $475 a month. BUT then they found a house that is OLD and drafty, 4 bedrooms about 3500 sq. ft. for $650 a month.. I told them since they are just starting out they should go for the less expensive and get on their feet. Plus I don't think they will be able to afford the utilities in the big old house....but I am just throwing up ,my hands and not saying anymore... They will have to sink or swim on their own. She is bringing both of her girls back next month too so they need to think more than a hour or two ahead!! GRRRR!! Enough of that!

Other than that we are doing good. As soon as I get my "WOMAN CAVE" back I'm not giving it up anymore!!! That is where they are staying for now and all my exercise equipment got pushed to the back of the room.. Was fine for a few weeks.. now going on 3 months!! OK---It really is enough of that AND I went to church this morning too!!

I just had to add a new picture of Ginger and Sissy--- They always make me smile

Hi Everyone,

Today, my DF and I went to Mushroom Festival, out to lunch (mushroom soup and mushroom in pastry appetizer), and then, to the Brandywine Museum (Andrew Wyeth's art + other paintings).

Got a little thing from the library that you carry (it's smaller than my cell phone) and you stick your earphones into it & you hear a book on tape. Perfect for my fast walking around the track. It was getting REALLY boring walking around the track 35 times!

Have a good Sunday evening,

Lynn

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I had a wonderful day with family. They made it all so special!

Donna - Happy Birthday to you tomorrow! May you be surrounded by those you love.

I'll go add my name to the list, lol, and modify the thread name to include all Age 50+ members. You girls are great!

Hope everyone has had a good Sunday! We went to church and my left leg started hurting me SO much that toward the end I had to slip out. I can't take much sitting anymore due to this leg pain. Had to go pee anyway so worked well that way. When we got in the car the other leg and my feet started hurting too...I really think the doctor is right ...that it is probably all neuropathy. I guess I always only thought of neuropathy as being in the hands and feet but now I know it can be anywhere. Thank God I can still get some relief with Ibuprophen/Motrin and ASA. Must be similiar to what you have Karen? Runs down my left leg, esp hurts under my left knee when sitting, and continues down to the side of ankle and foot. My feet and toes hurt a lot at times anyway but this was unusual for it all (leg and foot to toes) to hurt today and my Rt leg rarely aches like that so it was esp bad today. Not bad now though.

Ellabella - I agree with you...I would not really want to go back. I'd only do it if my body was young but my mind was wiser. LOL Can one EVER have those two things at the same time?!! Sometimes I wish the kids were home again but then I remember the difficult things and how life is today and I say, NO NO I couldn't do it again! But I'll tell you...watching those tapes is very emotional for me! One minute it's heartbreaking...seeing them so young and knowing what's ahead...and the next minute I am crying for joy and amazement that God blessed ME with four such beautiful, wonderful children! I can tell my dh is touched too but doesn't seem to affect him as much as me. Guess it's a mother thing. So anyway I am transferring one of them right now to digital. I THINK it's working...had a terrible time figuring it all out and now it's just recording and recording...hope something is working as my dh is getting very antsy and wanting to watch TV. We only have one TV.

Lynne - maybe that's what I need. I too get very bored walking the track. About 10 min it's ok, but past that, I have a hard time sticking to it. I don't care for listening to music (I want to sing along!) so what I do is..I challenge myself to pass people in front of me. Helps a little.

FINALLY! Happy Birthday, PT!!!!!!
I hope you have the absolute BEST day!!!!
It's 5:30 AM hereabouts, and I'm sitting here with my hair freshly shampooed and air-drying as I type, thinking about my 45 mile drive this morning, and slurping coffee as fast as I can get it down to wake myself up.
Mary, I DO think we mothers are a bit more emotional about our children than the men are. I know that when I look at some of the pictures of when mine were wee little ones, I just wish, sometimes, that I could pick them up and hug them just one more time before letting them get all grown up and away from me.
Well, not much time here for any more. Work beckons.
Have a loverly day, GGs!

Looks like everyone had a busy Sunday.

Happy Belated Birthday Jane

A very happy 45th wedding anniversary to you Bobbi

I took our grandson home yesterday. We had a very busy week with him. He called us last night because he misses us already. What a sweetie. After I got back home I cleaned the house and just relaxed. I cannot stand the quiet in our home. I am use to chaos.

My poor DH was very ill Friday night. I took him to Urgent Care first thing Saturday morning and he has a kidney infection. He needs to go in for more testing this week. My DH is young (49 years old) and was born visually impaired (uses the aide of a guide dog) and now has advanced hereditary ataxia (has difficulty walking). He has been seeing specialists for years now and they do not know what form of ataxia he has. He is my hero and works through his pain, without any complaints. He retired from the federal government, but serves on a California State Board and can work from home. On Sunday he was chasing after our grandson and fell and shredded his knee. An hour later we were playing hide-an-seek from grandpa and were hiding under a comforter when my husband lifted the comforter to find us, our grandson jumped up and smacked grandpa in the nose with his head. As you can imagine poor grandpa is pretty beat up now.

I hope you all have a great week. It is still going to be in the 80s here all week. I am stepping up my bicycling this week, before my dictator trainer (younger brother) checks in on my progress.

Good Morning, All....
Thank you, thank you for the birthday greetings!! I LOVE birthdays! I don't care about the other holidays, but I LOVE birthdays!

I'm thinking that a very good thing to do today would be to FAST. I've been in celebration mode since Friday, and the dreaded scale will be, like, um, gleeful when I pull it out! I have a few more things scheduled later in the week, too, so maybe I'll just relax, enjoy, and jump (more like grunt and groan) onto the wagon later. Did I say that I LOVE birthdays??

Sounds like everyone is doing well! Lynn, I see that your weight squiglie went down a few pounds... good for you! Good grief, you've been KILLING yourself, and something should be seen from that!

PT/Zoe, KarenMOFLO, Freda, Bobbi, Rosey, everyone... have a lovely day! Be safe!

Good morning all!! The sun is shining and it looks like a beautiful day out there. I haven't ventured outside the house yet...I am VERY lazy this morning! The pesticide guy is to come today and so I had to stay home while Joe went to PT. He has only 3 more sessions I think after today. And he goes back to the surgeon tomorrow to see how the bone is healing.

I am going to work some more on transferring the old tapes to digital. Going to call and ask some questions first though. Need to do this while dh is away from the TV.

Ok, try to get back later, but that's all for now. Hope you have a great day, Donna!
