Hello,

Today was one of those days when the scale was my enemy. Got on this morning and up a pound to 156. I just lost heart. Had to drag myself to the gym & when I got there, they were having an electrical problem & there were no lights/air conditioning. I just gave up and came home.

I am back to my regular self now. Went to Panera's for lunch - had their strawberry & poppy seed salad.

Hope everyone is having a good day,

Lynn

Know how you feel, Lynn as I have been there so many times! I'm sorry! Sounds you needed a break from the gym any way. I suspect you have just been through too much stress recently.

Often I have found that when I am doing everything right and I gain a bit then the next day I may actually drop down lower as long as I don't overeat. Hopefully that's what will happen with you. Keep up the good work and focus on health rather than the number on the scale, and don't lose heart. You are SO close to your goal!

Jane - I love the card!! Thanks for sharing.

The transferring of tapes is not going well. I have tried everything I can think of. Beginning to wonder if it is our machine. We need to buy an new DVD player and plan to go tomorrow to try and find one that also uses VHS tapes. Our previous one was like that and just recently stopped working. The VCR and the DVD player we are currently using came from the RV and they aren't upgraded versions. Besides we would prefer not to have to lug them back and forth between the house and RV.

So that's how I spent most of my day. The rest of it...the pesticide guy came and I followed him around. I think I pretty well trust them now but just in case...This was our 30 day visit and was just a quick routine one but I can call them anytime if I want more done. He was really nice, even brought my garbage and yard debris containers back from the street! That's going beyond his duty! I am now watering the lawns as they say it helps the pesticide work.

Sherrill - hope your dh is doing better...sounds like he had a really tough day!

Hi Maryea, My Aunt just found out that Sams club will transfer movies to a DVD for about $10 each. She is having a lot of the old 35mm movies transfered over. You might want to check with them. Sometimes it is easier to pay a little bit then to put up with the frustration! Just thought that I would let you know.

Hmm....just saw your post. We don't have a Sams but wonder whether Costco does it too? With some of them a lot of editing should be done and I doubt they will do that for $10 but I will check into it. Also I have several tapes so might end up costing me quite a lot. Wonder how many VHS tapes they can get on a Dvd. But as you say sometimes it's worth it to pay instead of going through all this frustration. And I can live with the lack of editing if necessary...my main concern is I don't want to lose them. Even now they are not really clear. Thanks for posting this.

ETA: Or maybe Walmart does it? Sams Club is part of Walmart or something isn't it?

I think that Costco does it too. Because at first she was going to mail them to her daughters in Colorado 'cause we don't have a Costco here. In fact, I think that Costco was a little cheaper....but not when you had to include the costs of mailing them back and forth. Good luck. Sams is sort of a part of Walmart but I don't know if they do it or not.

Ooops. Belated happy anniversary, Bobbi!!! Hope you celebrated in style! That’s a lotta years, sweetpea. You evidently possess some secret knowledge that was never passed on to me regarding marital success. I’m on #2, and while I have no intentions of changing anything at this late date, I can say that I’m well past the honeymoon stage . Enuff said about that…I haven’t got all day, here .
Hope your birthday was happy, PT, and that you spent it just as you pleased. That’s how I like spending mine – just as I please. Of course with my bunch of kids and such, I usually end up the the midst of some great hoopla that leaves me yearning to crawl into bed and pull the covers up over my head. I swear, the older I get, the less hoopla I can handle. Leave me alone with my book, a glass of iced (Arizona diet green) tea, and maybe a little soft jazz playing in the background, and I’m very content. A view of the ocean would be nice, but isn’t absolutely necessary.
Karen31, my son and his fiancée are still here with us, too. No kiddies of course, but I am absolutely loving it! They’re both at work a lot, of course, and saving to buy a house; they’ve been going around with a realtor, but haven’t found just what they want yet. I wouldn’t care if they never did – I really am enjoying their company; they add a little energy to the atmosphere that isn’t there with just the two of us. The fiancée cooks some (my son does, too), so some of the burden is off my shoulders for preparing supper when I get home from work, and they both do laundry, help with cleaning, etc. I’m going to hate having to re-adjust and will miss them like crazy when they find a place to buy for themselves.
35 times around the track, huh, Lynn? That extra pound must be in increased leg muscle. Not to worry, I’m sure.
Hi Sherrill – I’m glad you enjoyed your week with the grandson. That’s the only thought that could induce me to move out of state – the idea that I could maybe have the grandkids stay with me for weeks at a time! As it is, we’re practically next door, and we see them a lot in brief snatches, or once every couple of weeks when we babysit, but I’d just love to have them all to myself for awhile…maybe when they get a little older.
Rosey? A hard frost already, eh? Well, we’ll be there soon enough, that’s for sure. It’s already getting cooler, and the leaves have turned in spots.
Mary, I don’t know anything about transferring tapes to DVD, so I can’t contribute anything to that conversation. I’m quite simply the LEAST technically savvy of anybody here, I’ll betcha. (And proud of it!!!! ) Hope you’re feeling better.
Hey Freda – and Karen3 (hope you’re feeling okay – still icing up, are you? Brrrrrrrr .), and Gayle (come out, come out, wherever you are, Gayle!) and Jane (STILL no Isabella woe is me!)
Have a good day, GGs!!!!

Hi all....status quo but hoping for more soon. Yesterday while waiting to be called at PT this wee very very old lady who was probably 4' tall with blue sweats on and curled up toed shoes(yup looked like an elf) came popping across the waiting room wagging her finger in my face over my book. She said "girly you read alot and I'm gonna tell you my secret...I read Readers Digest Condensed books. Then I can reads alots more." Spun on her heel and jumped back up into her seat. I never wanted to laugh so hard in my life.....did say thank you and would remember her clue.

Doc recommended to continue the ice and that should try warm pack inbetween times.....found warm makes everything ache so will stay with cold.

Lynn...get out the tape measure. With the increased walking that is sure to be more muscle. How does the waist line feel? One pound is a glitz in the machine or dust on your glasses. Almost 50 yrs since I had an a&p class but something is chiming way deep in my skull about the citrus cycle after exercise that causes temporary fluid retention.....No excuses GO GIRL!

Still steaming hot down here. 90+ most days. pool is actually heating up again after those heavy rains. A/c is going 24/7.

Happy Brithdays and Anniversarys everyone...afraid if I scoll back will lose this posting. I refuse to celebrate anymore birthdays and am staying 39 and holding forever.

Have a bridge tournament this coming weekend....hugs,karen3

Hi Everyone,

Back to gym & my fast walking. Sitting her with ice on my knee.

Finished my class & graded everyone's assignments. Now I should have some more time.

Shooting for a VERY low-cal day today - hoping to move that scale number tomorrow.

Lynn

maryea---I talked with my Aunt today and she said that she is transferring the old 8mm reel movies to DVD's! Now you know that those have to be old ones--- I can hardly wait to see some of these old movies. It just has to be too much fun---- bring out the pop corn!

Everyone else-- Hello-- need to get my kitchen cleaned up and then I want to watch Americas Got Talent. Have really been enjoying this season. That little girl who sings opera is just fantastic!!
Will try to get back later.

Good Evening Ladies,

What a day a work!!!! I am so glad to be home.

I made some tacos this evening using some lean ground turkey, whole wheat tortillas, fresh salsa, a smidgen of sharp cheddar cheese and a spot of fat-free sour cream. Fantastico... At first I did not like the whole wheat tortillas, but they are growing on me. I use extra sharp cheddar because I use less and still get that taste I crave.

Lynn I know what you mean when you see a disappointing number on the scale. I weigh myself every Monday morning and if the number is not what I expected it affects my mood all day. I then let my DH know and he builds me up. He has been my rock and coach during this journey. I don't know what I would do without his support. The worse part is that he doesn't need to lose a pound and he is losing weight since we have changed the type of foods we eat. That rat....

Have a great night....

Good Morning, All...
Sounds like you're all busy, busy....

KarenFLO, good luck with your sciatica. It seems to take forever to heal... And I laughed at your comment about being forever 39... I used to tell people that, and one day a kindly soul (!) said "hmmm, you've had a hard life, haven't you?" and I had to up the numbers a little! Reality sucks, hahaha....

Nothing to report. I'm going to see "Sunset Boulevard" at the local theater this afternoon; we finally broke down and got season tickets! I'm excited. I love musicals! Otherwise, status quo. Really, status quo... it's so, like, um, serene!

Everyone, have a lovely day! Be safe!

I'm wasting a little time until it's time to leave for my eye doctor appt. It's a pressure check.

We broke down and bought a new DVD/VCR player yesterday at Costco. I can use it to convert our old VHS tapes, if I can figure it out. Of course they say it is easy. We had a dual player before and never even thought to convert the old tapes with it!! Can you imagine?!! So now that our home movies are getting blurry, we are finally getting to it. I want to be sure we get them transferred before we totally lose them. I'm too busy today but hopefully tomorrow.

Wanted to mow this am but the grass is still too wet. Hoping to get it done when I get back this afternoon cause rain is expected for next few days.

Went to surgeon's appt with Joe and the doctor said he is doing well but there is still a lot of bone that needs to be laid down...he showed us the x-ray and the inner side is doing well but the outer not so much and he said that is the normal pattern. It just takes a long time. He asked Joe to stand on that one leg and it could only do it for a couple seconds, so it's still pretty weak, so he extended his PT. Today they increased his activities...he is now doing step exercises in addition to his others and also increased his weight on the leg press to 100 lbs. I think yesterday we overdid the walking and he was achy and very tired last night. Today he is still achy. I think this is normal though with increased activity. The doc told him to walk as much as he can...not like 5 miles, but a blocks or so. He used to walk down the hill (about a short block) but hasn't been recently, so I'm encouraging him to do that with me again at least on his non-PT days if we can get some dry days again.

Jess - you are probably enjoying your musical about now! Have fun!

Toonses - glad the ww tortilla's are growing on you! I actually like them and Bobbi told me about the low-carb ones and I like them very much. My dh doesn't like Mexican food much so we don't have them often but I sometimes have them for lunch myself. There are so many things you can do with them. My dh is like yours ...Sometimes it seems like everytime I start to lose, he does too and loses more than me and so easily and he doesn't really need to lose even.

Karen - That will be fun for you all! Reminded me that I also have some old 8mm of my parents and us and our oldest dd when she was a baby. I don't even begin to know how to transfer them, so will likely have to take them someplace and get it done. I forgot to ask at Costco yesterday but did ask at Target...they want $23+ but I am still unclear as to whether that's per VHS tape or per time ...the girl's response was a little confusing to me. It's too much money anyway and I should be able to do it with our new player. Another question I have though...if I get them transferred to DVD...can I edit them them when I do it, or can I edit them on my computer afterwards? Oh so confused! Guess I'll read the whole manual and then ask the tech salesmen. I was hoping they covered the purchase with a concierge service like they do my desktop but they don't.

I agree that little girl on America's Got Talent is amazing!! For pure natural talent, I think she's the one but I also like Michael Grimms. Sorry for any fans, but poppycock is not for me (esp last night) and although I think Fighting Gravity is really clever and unique, I don't think I'd want to watch it for an hour or more show. It will be interesting to see the results. There have been some really great acts this season!

Karen - I was always taught to not leave either hot or cold pack on more than 15-20 min at a time. Alternating is good too. But leaving too long reverses the effect of the treatment. At least that's what they taught me.

Ok, gotta run to the doctor's. Hope everyone has a good day!!
