Good Morning Girls!
Oh so much news and so little time to respond.
Jess...I'd love to live closer to everyone too, you all sound like dear friends. We had to take driver's license away from MIL after she forgot to put her brakes on and rammed into a car with two small kids in it. None hurt and driver was very nice about it. Fortunately for us, she lives in town and we don't so she took a cab most places. Turned out much cheaper when you consider upkeep on car, gas, INSURANCE, etc.
Quote:

Tomorrow Mama-dear wants me to take her to get her driver's license renewed (she's 87 and DEAF, but otherwise okay). It's either get the license or I have to drive her all over, so I'm opting for the license. She doesn't stray too far from home (and we all pray a lot!).

Lynn...tell your sister Happy Birthday from the Golden Girls!
Rosey...Hope you have a wonderful time tomorrow with sis/niece. As far as exercise, I hate it too. I've been doing just countertop push-ups and some hand curls only. I started hating that darn stepper but have to use it for lower body in the winter since I don't get out much.
Zoe...I love the stuff, can't tell the difference in regular peanut butter and PB2. I do love the extra crunchy and PB2 is only creamy. I love dipping raw veggies into it, yum!
Quote:

Bobbi, I am DEFINITELY going to check out PB2 – it sounds divine! DH LOVES peanut butter and eats it by the spoonful. This might allow for some interesting variety.
Bless you for taking in the little kitty, girl or boy?
Quote:

an adorable (and very tiny) little gray and black striped tiger kitten named Turtle. Turtle is currently residing in DH’s and my bedroom, was half-starved but ate heartily of some Fancy Feast cat chow that I chopped up into little granules with my food chopper. Turtle loved it.

Freda...What a little Diva your grand child is! I sure treasure all the dance recitals we went thru with our daughter. 7 is a cute age and they usually steal the show.
Quote:

She's 7 and loves to perform. And so melodramatic. We call her little Susan Luchi.

I have bone builders tonight and DGD's baseball game at the same time. I'm leaving early from B.B'ers class and catch some of the game. Lukas is 11 and feeling kind of left out since all the attention is on his brother graduating. His party is next Sunday, will do baking on Saturday for it.
Have a great day everyone.
Hi 2 Karens' and Cathy and whoever I missed.

jess1 06-08-2010 09:38 AM

Good Morning, All.
Quick check-in.... Mama-dear is calling! She's hot to trot, wants that license, and is ready to hit the road! Oh, my........!

PT/Zoe, awwwwwwww, a new kitty! I'd LOVE to have a new kitty, but my SamCat is 17, a spoiled mama's boy, and I couldn't do that to him. Enjoy this first year's insanity with your new girl or boy! And I love the name... perfect!

Freda, glad the tornado missed you, but I'm very sorry for the town which got hit. Yeah, Mama Nature is NOT happy with us, and doesn't it seem that the weather has been so much more violent the last couple of years?

Lynn, such good news about your sister! I hope you all had a good time celebrating her birthday!

Enough for now, gotta run. Everyone, hi......... To all of you, please be safe!

Karen3 06-08-2010 10:33 AM

Morning all....What does cooler day mean? Here it is just a wee bite less steamy! and it's 2 weeks until Summer starts. Phew.

My DD has mutiple back and leg problems after all the years of show jumping and carriage driving. Plus has gained quite a bit. So in keeping with her competitive nature(and mine) I bet her I could loose more than her. Now am guilty of a couple of things.....1st she didn't know about Fitday.com or 3Fat Chicks. I did tell her Sunday about Fitday when she complained about only losing 3lbs in weeks....After only few days has seen how much that helps. I told her I blogg every day with group of ladies who really keep me on track.....but I just can't tell her to come here....like this is Mine Refuge! New thing reverse guilt tripping!

Zoe...retirement is the best thing we ever did. We put it off 2 years and still kicking ourselves. Love the freedom to come and go. Have not worn a watch in 10 yrs. Don't remember last time I set the alarm clock. Only layover from years of nursing is I Can Not bear to wear white shoes....even white sandels bug me. Laughed out loud at self Fri. Wore a demin skirt and in lady's room dropped the skirt like pants....tells you it has been years since I've been skirted.(that skirt was in closet from 1996!)

Gonna run be back later...karen3

Good Morning Everyone,

Today I am going scrapping with my neighbor. Monday's scrapping with friend who has Alzheimer's was difficult. She lost her keys, forgot her lunch, and forgot she was supposed to call her DD as we left scrapping so that the DD could get to house and unlock her door. My friend really could not accomplish any scrapping. I think I will have to find an alternative way to spend time with her.

Yesterday with sister and her family was nice.

Tomorrow, I have a computer guy coming to my house to fix my printer. One day, just stopped being online. Have tried many things to get it back online, but have been unsuccessful. I begin teaching on Tuesday & need printer working.

Have a good day everyone,

Lynn

Nothing special going on today in my area of the world. I just got back from clinic, had blood work done. I've skipped having my cholesterol checked for 3 years and doc said enough, you come in! I'm on meds for it so don't see what the big deal is. For once I get a break on the bill, MEDICARE!....Yipee, the only good thing about turning 65. Plus I'm looking at the top side of daisies, not the roots.
GS won their baseball game last night, he tried out for the older team (13-14 yr.) and proved he could play so he's the only 11 year old, he looks so tiny compared to some of the kids. Proud granny here.
I think I'll go outside and see what the rabbits ate last night, have a good one.

Bobbolink 06-09-2010 09:59 AM

Okay Isabella..........How'd ya get those cute little check marks under your 4th of July goals?

ellabella 06-09-2010 10:33 AM

So far so good with little Mister Turtle - he's still confined to our bedroom, but seems to be quite comfortable. No fleas that we can find, but he'll have his thorough going-over at the vets tomorrow, and then once he's cleared, we'll start introducing him to his new sisters Yoko & Daisy. He climbs everywhere - and gets up on the bed and sleeps between DH & I once we put the lights out. He also likes our clothes hamper. He can climb in and out quite easily, and I made DH take the dirty clothes out and put a pillow in the bottom for Turtle. I bought him a little teeny-tiny blue teddy bear on a string and tied it to the knob on the drawer of the bedside table on my side, and he knocks it to and fro with great ferociousness. Also lays flat on his back under the dust ruffle at the foot of my bed and pulls himself all along it to the head of the bed. Looks like that'll be in shreds before long. Oh, well. :D He's sooo cute. I plan to take a picture or two soon so you can see this cute little kitty for yourselves. Okay, but I will NOT be as batty over pictures of him as I am over the ones of my grand-twinnies. :o What IS it about babies of ANY species that is just so appealing to us?
I'm at work (surprise, surprise...like I'd be somewhere else on a Wednesday, right?) and thinking more and more about retirement. Can't come soon enough for this old gal.
A fox ran out in front of my car on the way to work today. A real, bona fide FOX! It looked just like the illustrations I've seen of them, but I don't remember ever seeing a live one outside of a zoo before.
PT, wouldn't it be awesome for us all to get together somewhere for a "Golden Girls" weekend? I don't know where, or how, but it sounds like a blast, doesn't it?
I have work to do. What a bore. Oh. Weighed myself this morning. 154. That's after eating too much for a few weeks, cutting back closely and losing at least 5 pounds before we went up to the White Mountains, and then going through a week or so of not so great eating and then doing better for a couple of days. Can anybody say yo-yo???? :dizzy:
Have a great day, all..
:grouphug:

Good Morning, All...
PT/Zoe, maybe we should just put something together, open it up to whomever, and HAVE A GET TOGETHER!! I would LOVE that, and how fun would it be??????

I so know about yo-yo stuff! I've been messing around with two pounds, up and down, for a week now. Yes, I do know the culprit, and no, I haven't done anything about it... but I will! I've worked too hard to get these 35# off, and I'm not willing to put them on again in 29.45 minutes! And this, my lovely friends, IS our life! (bah!)

Pretty day today, and the weather is also yo-yo! Very hot one day, 25 degrees lower the next! Of course, I HATE summer, so I'm glad for the cooler! Unfortunately, though, lots of people have colds because of the temp variation!

Granny got her license renewed! It was touch and go, because of the big cataract in her left eye, but they passed her. I'm sure she's out cruising today already!

No news (obviously!)........ Bobbi, Isabella, Karens, Freda, all.... have a lovely day and be safe!

Hello everyone, It sure seems like everyone has been pretty busy. I know we have here. We have this huge (Beautiful I might say) Black Walnut tree out in the back. Well, we knew last year the black walnuts are a real pain....but this year they are already dropping in the pool!!! GRRRR! So I have to add getting the walnuts out of the pool to the already routine of skimming and vaccuming everyday. We called a few tree service people and one company is wanting to charge us $2800 to take it out. Then he will find a buyer for the walnut wood and said he will split 60/40 with us what they pay them.... us getting the 40%. Which probably will amount to about $600 total. Another company came by today and he will do the same thing but only charge us $1250 to take the tree down. We have one more person coming out to give us an estimate. This tree you can't reach around and is about 75 feet tall!!

And my Aunt sold her wicker furniture out of her sun room and we have been taking her around and looking at new furniture. She bought a chaise lounge in navy blue and that will be delivered on Friday. Yesterday we found on craigslist a beautiful red, blue, green kind of stripes but not really, chair and ottoman. The lady said she had paid $400 for the chair and $200 for the ottoman a couple years ago...they are in excellent shape and she got them for $75! So we made 2 trips yesterday to get that for her. Today she took us to Granny Schaffers for breakfast as a Thank you.

I had to take Sissy to the vet day before yesterday and she has that luxating patella (trick knee) and it has started bothering her the last week or so. The vet put her on an anti-inflamatory for the next 10 days. He said we may want to consider surgery on her knee to fix it. But she still runs around like a race horse in the back yard and only has problems ever so often. So I have to figure out what I want to do there. This picture is Sissy in her pool. It really is a dogs life!!

Well, I wanted to pop in for a bit and let you know that I'm hanging in there. Thoughts and prayers are going out for all.

Bobbolink 06-10-2010 09:15 AM

Good Morning Girls!
We're in for a good soaking rain this morning, great for our vegetable garden. We have many fruit trees on our land, yesterday I noticed cherries on our newest tree. This is a young tree and won't be enough to make anything with this year, now I just have to beat Bruce to them when they ripen.
Karen...do you put water in Sissy's pool when it gets hot? As far as the walnut tree, do you really want to take it down? Just think of all the walnuts you can get from it. I have a recipe for sugared walnuts that's to die for. Show us a picture of it:dizzy:
Freda...how's the battle of the bulge coming? I hope you're still on program, I know how easy it is for us to go off program since we're at our goal weight. The 7 pounds I put on was from unhealthy choices and too many of them.:tape:
Karen3...You little 'stinker', not telling her about Fitday...:nono: Now that you've redeemed yourself, the race is really on. I don't blame you for not telling her about us, sometimes it's nice to vent without your family butting in.

Lynn...How about a beginner painting class? Once a week my dad's retirement center has a watercolor teacher come in and instruct them on painting, everyone enjoys it. Even those who are not artistic and some of them have Alzheimers, some have strokes and paralized on one side. I don't know where you find the time to do everything, especially with your class starting up again on Tuesday.

I think I will have to find an alternative way to spend time with her.

Zoe...I can't wait to see a picture of 'Turtle'. I remember sewing a mom of the brides dress for my mom, had it hanging in the closet. Our kitty decided to climb up the dress, ugh! Fortunately I was able to pull the material and most of the threads went back into place. She's probably not doing too much damage to your bed ruffle. I agree, it would be fun to meet somewhere, We'd have to see who's interested in meeting, then find a spot in the middle.

Jess...That's what I tell myself when the scale starts inching up, I've worked too hard and not willing to continually eat junk food, get right back on the diet program. I know we're suppose to call it a healthy eating program, not a diet. But with me, it's a DIET.

Our DD took us to a fancy golf club for DH's birthday. They had all Appetizers 1/2 off and that's all we had. The servings are huge, I had fried Walleye with dipping sauce. I never make deep fried at home so this was a special treat for me. My grandson had potato peelings, turned out to be 3 whole potatoes halved and stuffed with green onions, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, etc. in a dipping sauce. I ate one of those too. Darn but fattening foods taste good! I skipped lunch that day so the fattening stuff didn't affect my weight.
DH is making supper tonight, Elk in the crock pot. I found a huge head of fresh broccoli at the grocery store I'm going steam and we still have a large bowl of fresh fruit. I can't remember if I told this before but DH saw someone on the cooking channel grilling fresh pineapple. I swear, I can't get enough of this. Any of you grill fresh pineapple? It gets so sweet and succulent, try it.
You all have a great day, bye:wave:

Karen3 06-10-2010 10:19 AM

Morning all....well the diet gods paid me back for not sharing info with DD. I added fresh blue berries as a dessert treat and didn't lose an oz this week. All fruits shut me off on South Beach. Luckly they didn't trigger a bout of cravings! There is still 1/2 a basket in the refrig calling my name.

I make a hugh pot of vegies. Diced tomatoes, green beans, limas, kidney beans, black beans, corn, carrots, onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, peas, and any left overs. Nuke a bowl and eat it steaming hot warms my inner man. DH who is a diabetic "steals" a bowl every noon for lunch instead of the sandwich he usually has and is so surprised that his BS are better. Shh don't tell him.

Still eating down the freezer. Tonight should be thin slices of turkey breast with lemon and capers as a scallopini. Threw out 3 tubs of something that looked like soup but has been in there for 5 yrs. Know not older than that since hurricane Francis had our power off for 7 days...still remember cleaning out the nasty hot stuff! 6 Black garage bags of stuff...double yuck!

Karen...Many years ago my DF had a hugh walnut tree cut down and made into boards. That wood was so beautiful. But those darn nuts can stain anything. Our dog Dash sits on 1st step of the pool with feet on the 2nd. Old dog, Cowboy, used to sleep on the swim out with head resting on deck.

You should see our cannas. They are glowing. The orange ones look like the Aztec Sun God fell into the yard in a hugh heap. I remember my DGM's constant work to keep them in NJ. Digging them up every Fall. Here in Fl they grow so fast and spread so much that DH has to chop/mow them back. They grow both by riser and big seeds and would take over the whole yard. They get so tall that some of the flowers are higher than the eaves.

Bobbie...How do you get any cherries? My DF had a bing cherry tree and never got a cherry before the birds. You would see a perfect cherry and the back would be eaten out! He also had a tree with 21 different cherries grafted on. Started on one side with QueenAnne and ended up super sour. Dh's grandfather had a fruit farm and was a master grafter. Yeah our familys were close years before Dh and I. Actually my DF delieved Dh and me too. Same day 3 years apart.

Lordy this as turned into a rambling mess....love you all....gotta go start something productive....or maybe just jump in the pool. kaen3

the slim me 06-10-2010 10:47 AM

good Morning girls,

Lovely day here! I just got in from my walk. Lifted my weights all ready. Sun is shining and everything is good!

Wouldn't it be fun to meet everyone! It's like I know you allready.

Karen3, I know you do well with SB, but I couldnt' give up fresh fruit or carbs. We have to know ourselves I suppose. I love Canna's, but we have to dig them up every year. They are worth it, great big showey flowers and wonderful green foalage. And when you dig them up you get the bonus of lots of new bulbs.

Bobbi, I'm doing really well with the "diet", thanks for asking. It really isn't a diet for me though, it the way I eat. Except when I go off occasionally for whatever reason. Stress and grief are big ones. And then they put me on steroids occasionally, which really mess me up.

Lynn, bless you for trying to find common ground with your friend that has alheizmers. I can't imagine the grief it causes. Especially when you know thatyou are going to slowely lose your mind. I've had lots of patients cry and tell me they knew they were going to. It's almost a relief when they get past that point.

Karen, I know black walnuts can be a pain and they do stain everything. We had a tree when I was a child. We used to gather them and dry them for winter. Of course you have to shell them first, and my hands would be stained for ever, it seemed! But I also remember the taste of walnuts in the winter. We would bring in a stone and place it by the fireplace and crack them on there. Bobbi, I have a great recipe for candied walnuts too. YUM!!!

Z, Looks like turtle has already made his place in your home and heart! Doesn't take them long, does it?

Donna, we finally had to insist that mom give up her license. It was a tough time for all concerned, but totally necessary. For her and for all the other people on the road. She still talks about driving occasionally but we can remind her of the times she was out and got lost or had a hypoglycemic attack and almost passed out, and she relents.

Isabella, miss you. Hope every thing is ok with DMIL. Hope you are doing well too. Make sure you take the time to get your exercise in. You are doing so well.

Freda

Hi Everyone,

ARGHHHHHHHHH!

Just lost my post.

Check back later,

Lynn

jess1 06-10-2010 11:15 AM

Good Morning, All....
What great posts this a.m.!! Karen from MO, your puppies are having a lovely childhood, and if they give you any grief about animal abuse, send them to me for a good talking-to!! What a cute picture! BTW, how did the Greenies contest come out?

Karen from FL, I'd love to see a picture of the cannas. I don't know what they are, but I think I really like them!!

I think it's interesting that we're all on a separate (and very unique) approach to lard lessening. I tried SB, did well, gave up... I tried everything (I'm sure!), did well, gave up... I talked about trying alternatives and did. That worked for me.

PT/Zoe, we NEED to see some Turtle pictures!!

Lynn, you never mention your knee anymore; is it all better? And you're a very, very good friend, too.

Freda, great posting! Isabella, hope you're doing well...
Everyone, hello! And have a lovely and safe day to you all...
