Happy Week-end everyone!
We went to school commencement last night, a zillion people and it was hot in there. We could only pick out 1 of 3 words said, glad it was over. We left early, right after GS received his diploma.
Karen...glad you're still with the living, yes we eat for all kinds of emotions.
Quote:

Yup, we eat when happy, sad, mad or scared.....

Who eat's PB2? (dehydrated peanut butter, all oil taken out...delicious when hydrated) On their web site, many new recipes.
Yesterday I made a 'Thai Peanut Sauce' for grilled chicken or pork.
DH had left-over spaghetti and meat balls and I stir-fried a whole package of frozen stir-fry veggies, spooned some of the Thai Peanut sauce over the top and thought I'd died and when to Heaven.
Anyone using the PB2, go to their web site for the recipe.
We have the plumbing coming this morning, he accidently switched the soft water to hard in our upstairs 'Throne'. The stool is rusty water, ick. Looks like we didn't flush the toilet and it's going to permanently ruin the porcelain if he doesn't get here soon.
Gotta go get ready, have a good one.
Jess...Mexican is my fav!

I'm still living!!! What a week this has been. Everything was going well until the unexpected happened. Wednesday, I had to go home for a scheduled appointment I had made months before I came babysitting. I was going to stay and make a nice long weekend out of it and come back tomorrow on Sunday. Had a long day on Wednesday as I did my babysitting and then left for the 4 hour drive home. Got to the appointment, got home and went to bed fairly late. The last time I looked at the clock it was about 12:30 am. Early in the morning at 5:50 am we were awakened by the phone. DMIL was in great pain and we needed to get to her immediately. Got to her house and found her bent over in pain, vomiting and passing blood in her urine. We got her in the car and went to the local emergency clinic where it was determined she needed a CT scan to see if she had a kidney stone. That meant a trip to town where she was, fortunately, seen right away. Usually there is at least some amount of waiting time but we didn't wait 30 seconds from the time we arrived at the CT scan waiting area. There was no stone but the scan showed a blockage in the kidneys. By this time DH's brother and wife had joined us so while we were waiting to see the doctor the men did some shopping at the hardware store. While they were gone the doctor came and told my SIL and me that MIL would have to go to town. We looked at him questioningly as we thought we'd already come to town. So I asked what town? and he said St. John's. This is about 430 kilometres from home. He told us the urologist was out of town for a week and there was no other doctor there for that time so MIL would have to go to the university hospital. So of course we wanted to know when and how, etc and he said in about an hour or two. Well, you could have knocked the both of us over. We were quite shocked. All this time MIL is sound asleep from the Demerol she'd been given for the pain. She was bundled off in an ambulance and we booted it back home to pack a bag for her and ourselves. So instead of a nice quiet weekend at home we've been spending the time at the hospital. We've been staying with DS and traveling back and forth each day. On Friday, I stayed with the baby as I was so tired from lack of sleep and so much traveling. DH, BIL and SIL did most of the hospital stuff. Today another brother and sister arrived to relieve DH and his brother. They are going back home tomorrow and the two that arrived will keep vigil for a few days and then another brother will come. MIL's right kidney has probably not functioned for months and the left one became non-functioning as well. She had a procedure done on Friday where the doctor was able to put a stent in the left kidneybut could not do anything with the right kidney as there was too much blood, etc, blocking the view of the scope. The doctor is going to try to do the right one again this week but it may have to be removed. MIL was very ill but today the urine was running through a catheter and it looked like there was no blood present. She was more alert also and would talk every now and then when something we said got her attention and she ate a little.

Looking after the baby is easy. Running back and forth to the hospital is bone tiring. DS will have extra company all week with the family members staying here. DIL, told me to thaw a turkey tonight to cook tomorrow. That should give us a few easy meals for most everyone.

Last year, DH's father died and we all spent several weeks at his bedside. Everyone is suffering from "deja vu" but we all felt a bit better today seeing her sit up and looking better than she did the last few days.

Anyhoo, that's what I've been up to.

Lynn, that's great news from your doctor. I'm going to check out the new challenge. My walking has really slowed down this week but I did get in a walk on Wednesday before all the trouble started.

Welcome to the two new Gals. You'll love it here.

I read over the posts quickly and seems as if I was away for a month. Ha, ha. Zoe, you'll definitely love to be retired. Donna, I made a bundt cake for my DH's birthday (which came on Friday in all the midst of the trouble) and the darn thing came out of the pan in a million pieces! Never had that happen before. Had to phone DS at work and ask him to buy one on the way home. How'd the grad party turn out, Bobbi? Did you stay away from the goodies? I've been eating hand over fist as fast as I can stuff it in my mouth. I have to force myself to get back on track.

In all the haste of returning on Thursday, I left my sneakers at home. I didn't intend to wear them home but forgot to change when leaving Wednesday afternoon. I was also going to bring my 10 lb dumbbells back with me this weekend but I guess that won't happen until next week now. Wish I had a pool like the 2 Karens.

Must go now and check out the challenge and then crawl into bed. Tomorrow comes too soon.

Good Morning Everyone,

Isabella - I am so sorry for your MIL's problems. Hope you are taking care of yourself while you care for everyone else.

Today should be interesting. I am planning to go with my DD to stand in front of grocery store and ask customers for money to sponsor my DD's marathon run for cancer (lymphoma) research. I'll let you know how it goes.

Check back later,

Lynn

good Morning GG,s, I wish you all a blessed Sunday.

I had to work yesterday, but I got a L/C day today. WhooHoo! I was going to call in sick anyway (i know that's not a good thing to do, but today is my DGD's dance recital) but now I don't have to and I won't have to feel guilty. Yes, I feel guilty when I call in sick, even if I am deadly ill! Have to run to the store this morning to buy flowers for DGD. She's 7 and loves to perform. And so melodramatic. We call her little Susan Luchi.

Lynn, I hope you collect lots of money for CA. from all of us that have lost loved ones to CA or had it ourselves, Thank you.

Isabella, good to hear from you. I hope your MIL is doing well. And yes, there is nothing more tiring than looking after someone in the hospital. We try to make it as easy on family members as possible, but it's exhausting.

Karen, I see you haven't lost your talent for bridge. Remind me to never play against you. but then again, you have to play really good people to get better, right? And i'm another one that eats for every emotion too. Just gained +*&%^ pounds when my best friend died. And we celebrate with food, ease pain with food, relax with food. So know you are not alone.

Bobbi, i got some of the PB2 and I really don't like it. I'll have to look on the site for the recipes to see if I can use the rest in recipes.

Rosie, Your DD is my kind of people. Pet the dust bunnies!! ha!! She would be welcome at my house any time, and it wouldn't be too hard to find her a couple. But not right this min. I just finished cleaning the whole house. Exhausting, but if anyone wants to visit, come right now. Might be the last time you find it in this condition!

Cathy, your eating plan sound very simular to mine. I do count calories but I don't limit anything. I try to eat very healthy. But I add treats in there too. I find that if I totally eliminate anything, that is the thing I crave. So, nothing is strictly off limits. Not event he corn chips that I will eat untill I am sick. but I've gotten smarter with them too. I buy a bag and divide it into serving size bags. If and when I buy them. they are the devil!!!!!

Everyone, have a great day,

Freda

retiredone 06-06-2010 08:58 AM

Good morning, gals. Got some sleep in a real bed last night. I've been bunking on the couch the last few nights and it was good to stretch out on a full size bed.

I've signed up for the 4th of July challenge and am resolved to follow my own manifesto this time around. I just turned down a bag of nacho chips.

Freda, the nurses are so good to MIL. We're really pleased with the care she's receiving. You all deserve a special place in heaven for the wonderful work you do.

Lynn, hope you raise loads of money today. Is the marathon a full one? That's a long, long way to run. (I sound like one of the characters on Sesame Street.)

It's raining today so I'm stuck inside to exercise. Later on today when DH leaves for home, I'm going to get on DS's bike and ride to nowhere.

Have a great day and keep your resolve going.

Good Morning, All... and such busy bees you all are!!

Isabella, I hope things go well with your MIL, as it's so hard to be bouncing between homes and hospital! I add to Lynn's: take care of yourself, too!!

Stood on a cement floor for 5 hours yesterday gathering signatures for a petition, and today I think I might just crack into pieces and whimper in the corner. My back... my feet... oh, such whining. Aleve is NOT cutting it! I thought I might go back today, but I think they'll have to do without me. I'm going to a baby shower, instead, which sounds a lot more fun.

Nothing new. All is well. Except for the temporary aches today, I feel great and have no complaints!

PT/Zoe, yo! Everyone, hi...... have a good Sunday and be safe!!

Quick one....

I just posted an address on "the food channel" (golden girls favorite recipes!) for a site that has beaucoup bundles of recipes for cakes, candy, cookies, all things decadent, for Christmas and beyond! I know that only Bobbi and maybe Isabella are allowed to peruse this, since they're the only ones who can be trusted, but still........ it's fun reading!

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday, my DD received $349 from VERY generous Acme shoppers & staff. There were MANY times when I got teary-eyed from the goodness of people - espcially the young men who gather carts from the parking lot.

Today I am going scrapping with my DF who has either Alzheimers or Dementia. She gets frustrated because she can't get organized enough to create phot album pages. However she wants to go. Her DD and I have talked and the DD believes it is good for her to just get out of the house.

I will check back later,

Lynn

Good Morning!
I need to get some cookies baked this morning for our church Bible school...like right now before it gets too hot and my kitchen heats up. We aren't running the air condition yet.
Yesterday I splurged on some snicker salad, anyone eaten this before? It was my first time and it was soooooooooo good. DH got up and got me a second helping of it since I couldn't stop talking about it.
Jess...I could spend hours and hours on that cooking site, yum-o.
Hi everyone, gotta start baking.

ellabella 06-07-2010 09:49 AM

Good morning, all….our weekend turned out to be quite a busy one, with a little excitement thrown in for good measure. On Saturday, DH and I started out early – 8:30 – to get our grocery shopping done so that we could spend an hour or so down at the lake, and then planned to stop in at DD’s with some baby formula, fruit and such that we get every week as our little contribution to the twinnies. So, we did that, and when we got to DD’s, they were all getting ready to go to DGD’s soccer game, so we went along too. That was pretty exciting because the sky turned black just as they were finishing up, and the thunder started to boom, and by the time we all got to our respective cars, it was pouring out and there was lightening slashing across the sky every few minutes. We went back to DD’s and waited out the storm – the sun came back out and it was beautiful again. We had supper together, and DH and I headed home at @ 8:30. A busy, non-stop kind of day. Then on Sunday, I didn’t set foot out of the house – just started cooking for the week – a pork tenderloin roast; some homemade applesauce with cranberries and sweetened with Stevia; baked sweet potatoes; bran muffins with dates, walnuts, dried cranberries and chunks of fresh pineapple (I added a cup of ground-up Fiber One cereal to the batter); and my famous (or not) ground turkey meat loaf with chopped green, red & yellow peppers, onion, zucchini squash, summer squash, spinach and shredded carrots. I use ground-up Fiber One cereal in that, too, instead of breadcrumbs. Also use a little ketchup to give it flavor, along with Mrs. Dash’s garlic & herb seasoning and ground black pepper. YUM. It seemed like a good day to stay inside cooking since it was raining and we were having intermittent thunder storms. Somewhere around 3:30-ish, just as I was getting finished up with the cooking, DD called to tell me that there was a little baby kitten stuck in the thick hedges that border her backyard, and that her DH was out there trying to get it out. She wanted to know if we would take it since they already have two cats (so do we) but they also have two babies (we don’t) and she just didn’t think that a tiny little kitten would fare too well with the twins grabbing at everything they can get their hands on these days. Naturally I said yes – what else could I say? They couldn’t leave the poor thing there to die. So we now have an addition to the family – an adorable (and very tiny) little gray and black striped tiger kitten named Turtle. Turtle is currently residing in DH’s and my bedroom, was half-starved but ate heartily of some Fancy Feast cat chow that I chopped up into little granules with my food chopper. Turtle loved it. Now, if Turtle uses his little litter box successfully, we will all be quite pleased with him. He has already demonstrated an appreciation for curling up in laps and purring himself to sleep. We’ll introduce him to the ladies of the house – Yoko and Daisy – gradually. We’ll need, too, to get him to the vet for shots and a check up. I think whatever fleas or vermin he may have had must’ve washed off in the heavy rain we had, because we haven’t been able to find anything on him. The vet can check him for that, too, and take the proper action should there be a few that we missed in our home exam.
My eating over the weekend was so-so. Not great, not awful. Back to counting, today, though, you betcha!
Thanks for the egg-free egg link, Lynn. That could make life a lot more pleasant! Glad things went well with your DD’s collections, too. You’re right – people really are very caring, and when asked, usually do try to do something to help. As for moving into your DD’s house, I guess it has its pros and cons, just like everything else. It would probably be fine, though, so long as you have your own space and they have theirs. I know I certainly need my space, and as much as I love visiting with DD and her family, I’m always happy to have my own cozy little nook to return to.
Congrats on slaying the opposition in your Bridge game, Karen3!!!! Your life sounds pretty near perfect to me. I could learn to play Bridge, I know. :D Swimming about in a lovely big pool and playing Bridge (and in general, just doing as you please) – oh, YES. Hopefully I’ll at least be doing as I please before I get too old to enjoy it!
Bobbi, I am DEFINITELY going to check out PB2 – it sounds divine! DH LOVES peanut butter and eats it by the spoonful. This might allow for some interesting variety.
Omigosh, Isabella! You’re just getting it from all sides, girlfriend!!! What’s that old saying? “Never a dull moment”? Well, I hope your MIL is improving, and I hope you manage to get a little rest for yourself. Seems like you deserve it!
Freda, I probably ought to know this (?) but what’s an L/C day?
Oh PT – I’m sorry that you’re so sore from the petition-gathering. I really admire folks who do that sort of thing, because I never really have…not since college, anyway, and we all know how many centuries ago THAT was! :o
Rosey, I’m so glad that you’re enjoying your DD’s visit. I’m awfully happy having my son at home, even though it’s temporary. It’s good to be with family. Isn’t it?
Hi Cathy. How are you doing? And how are you, Karen-from-Missouri?
Must run…this has become a novella. Have a great day, one and all!
:grouphug:

Good Morning, All...
I thought of you, Bobbi, when I ran across that recipe site. I, too, can sit and read recipes, for HOURS!

PT, what a great message! So newsy! I wish we were closer, because I'd really love to meet you!

Feeling ever so much better today! Today I think I'll take the mini-chainsaw and go attack the bushes in front. Tomorrow Mama-dear wants me to take her to get her driver's license renewed (she's 87 and DEAF, but otherwise okay). It's either get the license or I have to drive her all over, so I'm opting for the license. She doesn't stray too far from home (and we all pray a lot!).

Status quo on everything else. Weight goes up and down, as is normal, but it's pretty stable. No complaints here!

Hope you're all doing well. Isabella, I'm thinking of you and your MIL. Everyone, have a good day and be safe!

ladyinweighting 06-08-2010 08:15 AM

Good Morning,

My DD and I are driving up to my sister's to celebrate her birthday. She is doing well - back living in her own home and back to work. We are meeting with her and her family to have a birthday celebration lunch.

Check back later,

Lynn

the slim me 06-08-2010 09:12 AM

Good Morning girls,

It was cold yesterday! The after math of the tornado that came through. It didn't hit too near here, about an hour away, but caused a lot of damage. Lots of people still with electricity, took out many homes and a highschool where they were getting ready for graduation. At last count 13 had lost their lives. Horrible what nature can do.

Today looks like it will be warmer. Sun is out already. I have a computer class to attend this afternoon. 3 hours. I will be in a coma before it is over. I don't know if it's that we have really bad teachers at the hospital or I am just naturally ment to be illiterate when it comes to computer skills.

Lynn, have lots of fun with the family.

Donna, how was the baby shower? What were you petitioning for? I just spent hours going from house to house getting a petition signed trying, in vain, to save a local library.

Z, How is the new addition doing, you big softie. I couldn't resist either. Sometimes our "pets" just choose us. That is how my DS and DDIL ended up with 3 dogs.

Everyone have a good day. Oh, by the way, Where is everyone?

Freda
