Good Morning Golden Girls,

It's hot and muggy here, so I've been in the house most of the day. I did walk to the library and the drug store this morning, before it got too bad. And i'm going to a Zoomba class this evening, so my exercise for the day is planned.

Karen3, I am pretty good at dieting, but if I made all that food I don't know how I would do. I don't think I could make a peach cobbler (my fave) without wanting to dish some up warm with a scoop of ice cream on top. I'm making myself hungry just thinking about it.

Z, you always make me laugh, but you story of the tomatoes had me rolling. I can see it now. And by the way, I did think hubby's yelling was kind of funny. Sorry.

Donna, Yeah, everything is too expensive. But if I was rich I don't know what I would do. Face lift? boob job? where would I stop? Well, since it will never happen, I guess it doesn't matter One thing I would spend money on is having my eyes done.

Bobbi, I am doing really well. You know I don't get on the scale often, but I can tell a real difference in my clothes. The pants i am wearing now were tight before and are now quite confortable. So, i'm getting there.

Rosie, Your DGD is beautiful. and what fun, teaching her to quilt. Something she will always remember. And a basketball hoop in the living room too? I was jealous of the swing! You really do spoil those kids (just like we are supposed to).

Gayle, I'm happy to hear that you are doing well. It's one day at a time. Planning does help me and I hope you find it helpful. Be sure to add in snacks to that planning. I portion snack out into individulal packs. I really get into trouble sitting down with the entire bag. And it does really get easier. Exercise doesn't have to be such a terrible thing. Take the kids out to play and play with them. Take them for a bike ride. Every little bit helps. And I think I've said before that I take the staris at work and park in the back of the parking lot.

Mary, glad to hear that your husband is doing well, And he is in VERY good shape for that age, or any age. I see lots of people, lots younger, who are in much worse shape.

Lynn, Waiting to hear how SIL is doing. Hope everything is ok.

Karen, Men can be very closed mouth, can't they? Not like us women who want to talk about everything. My husband had a bad time when he lost his job too, got pretty depressed. Being busy seems to help, like Z said. They are so used to being busy they don't know what to do with themselves. DH is fine now, the kids are keeping him busy. I have to fine the man something to do this winter!

Everyone, have a good day

Hello all,

Rest well GG.

So, Karen3, why is it that you are baking all of these yummy things that you can’t even eat???? Is this for your Bridge club? Did I miss something? Well, yup, I missed the peach cobbler, that’s for sure, and my mouth is in steady drool mode, just thinking about it. Raspberry, not so much. I know you said it’s seedless, but with my luck, there would be an uncaught seed lurking somewhere that would undoubtedly end up in my mouth. For some unfathomable reason, raspberry seeds in my mouth seem to have the same effect on me as bits of eggshell or a fishbone in my food. Makes me shudder just thinking about it. :( So, I’ll stick with the peach. When do you plan on sending it to me? ;)
Good work with that planned exercise, Freda! I could plan it if I wanted to…it’s just in the executing of my plans for exercise where I tend to fall a bit short. (And DH’s shouting wasn’t a BIT funny! It was annoying! It was uncalled for, and it was childish. AND I didn’t share any of the tomatoes with him, either! Told him to sneak on over and get some for himself, and see if I didn’t call the police on him!)
Well, it’s Thursday, and tomorrow (hallelujah!!!) is Friday, followed by the weekend – we’re taking the grandkiddos up to Hampton Beach, NH, where they’re staging their annual sand sculpting contest. The sand sculptures are amazing, and I’m looking forward to a day at the ocean. It’s been a long winter. NEXT weekend, I’m taking Friday & Tuesday for vacation days (Monday of course is the 4th of July holiday) so I’ll have five days off in a row without “spending down” too much of my vacation time. I’m taking Friday & Monday off on the weekend of July 24th, as well, and then the whole last week in August and first week in September, I think. Then a week at Christmas, maybe. I’m not sure that far ahead. Still counting down the weeks to retirement, of course.
Morning, PT….hope your weather’s tolerable today. It’s supposed to hit 90 degrees here, with a lot of humidity. Oh, joy!
Lynn, any news?

Good Morning girls,

I went to my first Zoomba class yesterday. Now, I exercise all the time, but this class had me dripped in sweat! And it was fun at the same time. It's just dance steps, latin beat, with some exercise steps and stretch added. I will definateally go again.

Lynn, I hope everything is ok. I hope you check in soon. We worry, ya know.

Isabella, miss you.

Z, I wouldn't have shared MY tomatoes with him either. But it was funny!!

The news said we got some earthquake movement yesterday. It couldn't have been too much. I didn't feel anything, but other people did. Never had one here, that I know of. Nature is really giving us some surprises this year, not all of them pleasant ones.

Gayle, You're doing great. don't worry about being perfect. No such thing!

Everyone, hope your day is going well!

Freda

Good Morning, All...
Just checking in!

I'm bored, bored, bored, BORED with watching my food intake (way too much bother!!), and I'm going to splurge on Chinese for lunch! And I'm going to eat the whole darn thing! And the angst tomorrow will be worth it! I'll drink lots of water... Sometimes, a girl's just gotta.......

Supposed to be in the mid 90s today. OMG. I'll be spending my day digesting my Chinese, in the basement... where it's cool! It's pretty tolerable until late afternoon when the heat from the brick house just HITS. Freda, you ain't seen cranky 'til you've seen me in August! Actually, April through September are pretty dangerous times to be around me!

Obviously, nothing new.

Have a lovely day, everyone........ be cool. Be safe!

Karen3 06-24-2010 10:47 AM

Morning all....just a note about the cobblers. They were for a BBQ Sunday. Everyone brought something. The sf peach stayed here for DH. I am only tempted when it is hot out of the oven and as soon as it came out i went shopping! Now raspberry....I love the smell more than the taste...gosh even raspberry soap tempts me. I have an old fashion reamer which is a sieve with a blade that squeezes stuff thru....there were no seeds absolutely none...Did taste the pulp to make sure it was sweet enough, but smelling it was just as good as eating...or so I lied to me about.

DH went fishing again yesterday and he got a 30" redfish. Took a picture and tossed back. Too big! You can't keep anything over 28". Now that beautiful fish will swim out into the deep Gulf water to spawn and die from that toxic stew forming out there. It is so frustrated to hear about so many ways they could be working on the mess and regs have stopped everything. They are dumping chemicals to break down the oil and don't know what that will do to stuff. American ingenuity has created so many great things why not let some of these people at least try. There are guys with straw that picks up oil sludge...heck straw is biodegradable. Sorry but living here on the coast and waiting is so hard. Seems like they just talk and talk and point fingers and talk some more and millions of gallons oil are building up into a dead sea. Our beaches here are white sand with water seventeen shades of clear blue. Guess they won't do anything until the mess follows the Gulf stream and slides up the Potomac or even later when it ends up in the North Sea off England. Wanna buy a boat?

Sorry about the rant....

Have get to the post office and mail a batch of books off. I buy batches on ebay then either give to our local library or send to friends. Guess I am the customer Bobbie sells stuff to.....but a way to satisfy my reading habit cheaply. Since I read about a book aday cheap is good.....bye, karen3

taxigirl 06-24-2010 04:29 PM

Hey everyone,
This is Judy (taxigirl). I haven't been on for a while. We went to the beach last weekend. I gotta say I was a pretty good girl. I only had one piece of Indian Fry Bread, and other than that pretty much stuck to program. I usually weigh on Fri. (the day we left) but I didn't feel like it, so I'll weigh this Friday. I am having a MediQuick week, (MRC) so I should lose something.

It's another (2 in a row now) beautiful day in the NW, though a little rain is forcast for tomorrow, it's supposed to be nice through the weekend. Wow, we've really had a cool spring and summer so far this year. The sun feels really good.

It's good to read all your comments. I don't know if I could get that close to a peach cobbler without a spoon and ice-cream! You guys are great! We're heading to WVa next month for my high school reunion. I lived there for 8 years growing up, and I do remember the humidity. We have some here, but nothing like good ol' WVa.

Lunchtime is over, better get myself back to work. Keep up the good work, and good luck to you all.

maryea 06-24-2010 07:33 PM

All that talk about the peach cobbler and the raspberries made me hungry! Sounds so good!
Also the fry bread which I love too! Why does all that yummy stuff have to be so high in calories, I want to know!!

Rosey - is that really your doctor's name? Sorry but had to ask! :D Sounds like you passed whatever test you were taking and congrats on the weight loss. I love to read too although I don't read as much as I did pre-'91 (or maybe it was '92) when I discovered the internet.

Freda - my gym (actually a community center) has started Zoomba classes too...I wanted to take it but couldn't quite work out the timing. I'd take the Zoomba Gold (for seniors) probably. I watched a class and it looks like fun.

Karen, I love to read too and have bought books in batch from ebay too. Not recently though. I also buy a lot of used books from Amazon.com. Most are just like new. Not as cheap per book as the batches of course but when I want a certain book it's a good way to go. When I bought in batch I got a lot I had already read. We now have a library next door to our gym and I thought I should just get my books there to save money but I can't quite get myself to go back to borrowing books...I'm one who reads in the bathtub and accidents do happen sometimes. Ownership has it's privileges. :D

Jess - Chinese sounds good to me! Enjoy and tomorrow the diet will still be there, kinda like housework. :-) I think we all need a break now and then but don't be like I do. Once I start eating off-plan it can sometimes take a while before I get back on-plan!

Glyne - sounds like you are doing well. It helps me to plan my meals and snacks. If I don't I just grab whatever is handy esp for snacks. My meals are generally ok as long as I eat at home.

Good luck, everyone ...let's make wise choices that we will be glad we made tomorrow! I'm learning I have to take this one day at a time.

Hello all,

End of day 3 ~ I did pretty good ~ ate the things off my little menu/list, walked but only got in 2 - 10 min chunks. Tomorrow is another day.

Have to share something funny ~ yesterday my husband had an outpatient proceedure at the hospital where I work. We had to leave home quite early for his appointment, so I went to the caffeteria to get some breakfast while he was having his proceedure. When I am at work, I can always smell the food on those breakfast carts ~ bacon and eggs. So, I got in line and was contemplating having some of that. I felt a tap on my shoulder and it was my boss ~ she knows that I am wanting to lose weight. I felt like a kid with her hand in the cookie jar. She didn't say anything about that ~ but it ended up helping me ~ I felt so guilty that I went and found something more healthy. I later sent her an e-mail and confessed. We had a laugh about that. She asked if I was going to help her as she had been getting into the bowl of dark chocolate candy in her office. I said sure ~ I could help ~ give me all your chocolate. She wrote back and said she would have to shoot me ~ nobody messes with her chocolate. :D

Ok, headed to bed in a bit.

Take care

Hi Everyone,

About son-in-law -
He started bleeding heavily on Saturday - was taken to the hospital Sunday morning. On Thursday, they did a colonoscopy & some kind of test down his throat - he has a bad case of diverticulosis. Between Saturday and Thursday, we were all pretty scared about what was going on. I was spending any free time with my daughter at the hospital.

Will catch up this weekend.

Lynn

Good Morning girls!
I just got back in from the raspberry patch, we're getting about a quart a day so far. I gotta beat the birds out there in the mornings or we get half berries. I was thinking of you Freda while picking since you love raspberries and also thinking of Zoe who dislikes them.
The scale really dropped this morning after my 1 hour bone building class yesterday plus I spent about 4 hours outside trimming bushes, weeding and de-heading peonie bushes. I love summer!
Below is a good explanation on how many calories you need to lose weight.
Quote:

Now, how many calories to eat to lose weight? This depends on how much you currently weigh, because your body needs more calories if you are heavy. Conversely, as you lose weight, you will need less, and so if you don't reduce your calories as you lose, your weight loss will slow or completely stall. A simple way to do this is eating a certain number of calories per pound you weigh.
According to things I have read on the Internet, a quadruplegic (who basically does not move) needs about 10 calories a pound. To need over 20 calories a pound, you pretty much need to be an endurance athlete. This means the rest of us fall somewhere in between. A sedentary older person might need 11, whereas a young male weight lifter might need 15. There are many variables. As long as you consume fewer calories per pound than your body needs, you will lose weight.
So you might try to multiply your body weight by 10, and eat that many calories. If progress is too slow, try 9. If losing more than a pound or two a week, try 11. As you lose weight multiply your new weight by your ratio number.
The great thing about this sort of diet is that you gradually adjust down to eating fewer calories. There is no need to start radically with a 1200 calorie diet if you weigh 300 pounds.
Once you reach your goal weight, gradually add back more calories until your weight stabilizes. You will never be able to go back to eating what you did at your old weight, unless you plan to regain weight. You will forever have to eat less.

ellabella 06-25-2010 10:34 AM

Bobbi, I think that, in all my years of on-and-off dieting, that's the first thing I've ever read that CLEARLY tells you what your body requires in terms of calories-per-pound. That is REALLY valuable information! And it makes perfect sense! I feel enlightened! Seriously. I really do. Plus, just the whole equation seems more logical and understandable the way it's written in your post. THANKYOU! :D
Well, Lynn, I will be hoping for a speedy recovery for your SIL, and some reassurance and comfort for your DD and yourself. Perhaps now that you have the diagnosis, you can at leaste take a deep breath and find out what needs to be done next.
Well, we were supposed to be taking the grandkiddos up to Hampton Beach in NH tomorrow for the sand sculpting competition, but they're predicting afternoon thunderstorms, so I don't know what's going to happen with that. We may have to postpone our "field trip" and go someplace else on Sunday, instead. Unless they have some way to cover and preserve the sculptures and can reschedule for Sunday, at which point we would go to Hampton. Hard to say at this point.
I'm about ready to doze off here at my desk. My daughter stopped by last night "just to say hi" and didn't leave until after 10:00. I didn't get to bed until nearly 11, and 5:30 this morning rolled around very quickly. Ack.
My weight seems to be gradually dropping; can't say for sure as I haven't weighed myself. My clothes feel looser, tho. :carrot: I cannot WAIT to leave here today. It seems like half the office is out - on vacation or whatever. I should've taken the day off, too. I'm kicking myself.
DH is going to be an extra in a movie being filmed at Old Sturbridge Village, and he'll even get PAID for it. Hooray!
Okay, feeling "blah", think I'll shut my door and "rest my head" for a few minutes. Have a great Friday, all...

Good Morning, All...
PT/Zoe, will you, too, become vicariously rich and famous? Is there a move to Hollywood soon for you and TurtleBoy? How fun!! And I agree with you that the calorie thingie from Bobbi is very good info!

Lynn, so glad your SIL is doing better! Good thoughts for all of you!

The Chinese food was wonderful (yes, it was...!), but today I have to, sigh, go back to being "good". It's so easy to fall out of the good resolves and good near-habits. Every day is a resolve, isn't it?

Rosey, good job!!! Did you actually see Dr. Turd and was he nice this time? Now what?

Hope all is well with everyone! I'm off to deaden my salivary glands and to re-re-re-resolve my resolution! Be safe, everyone!

Good morning! I thought that I would put some pictures on here of my girls! They both got hair cuts yesterday. My aunt says Ginger looks like a minature lion and of course Tim says she looks like a bearded dragon!! And she said that Sissy is just to embarrassed to even show her face!!! LOL!!:o But they will be a lot cooler for the summer and it will all be grown out by the time cold weather hits again. The third picture has both Ginger and Sissy and also Angel, she has settled down SOME but is still the puppy! She is just about 7 months old.

Lynn, sorry to hear about your SIL. My brother and my Aunt have both had bouts with that and they say it is miserable. My brother was in so much pain he thought his appendix and ruptured! Both have had to spend a couple times in the hospital with it but are now more watchful of what they eat. Hope he feels better soon.

Donna, I hope you enjoyed your chinese yesterday (sounds like it) I am going to be doing the same tomorrow only with Mexican! I am meeting my Aunt and cousin for lunch....will need to come home and play in the pool a couple hours to help with the food! I LOVE mexican food!

Bobbi, sounds like you have been busy trying to beat the birds to your berries. My Dad had a grape vine at the end of his pool years ago and they were very good! BUT you had to be quick to get them! He also planted peppers, tomatos and cucumbers every year in a small area and my gosh he always had so much of everything that he was giving it away!

Oh! I did lose another pound this week! YAY!!:carrot: I'd like to see 2 or 3 leave a week but will take the one too!! Bobbi, I saved that info. you posted and thought it was very good information. I'll probably send it to a few friends of mine too.

OK, everyone have a great day and I'll be back later!
