Becky-I think your supper sounds absolutely delicious!! I love eating like that. I know what you mean about the tub situation. The one in my new bathroom is very shallow and doesn't look inviting at all. I hope we can put in a whirlpool/garden-type tub in at the house fiance is going to build out there.

HI!

New here, too.

42yo, no kids, lifelong yoyo dieter and recently diagnosed as being in freakin MENOPAUSE! At 42?! Dr said it's within the normal range, but it's really made me feel OLD. I've got horrible night sweats, hot flashes and insomnia. There is not an emoticon to appropriately address my feelings on this. :

I have back problems, and occasionally some other joint problems, I swear my body is shutting down. AT 42! Well at least it's motivated me to DO SOMETHING!! I've always concentrated on dieting but these recent changes have really highlighted my need for EXERCISE, which I've been avoiding for 42 years!

I work at at desk for most of the day, so I'll probably only post M-F.

My H recently got some bad tests back from his Dr (high cholesterol, overweight) so he's FINALLY on the bandwagon with me. That should help.

Yesterday was good, today so far, so good, but I have an Event tonight, so that will be tricky.

I was going to weight this morning, then got dressed and forgot. I'm afraid I'm back over 180 (my jeans are saying that, anyway).

Here's to a successful weekend!

Blueflower-Welcome! I recently started having what I think are hot flashes and one of the docs I work with suggested black cohosh. I get it at Wal Mart....they make a paired combo of morning (hot flashes) and evening (hot flashes, insomnia) formula. It seems to be working well so far. Good luck!!

Thanks, I'll look into the black cohosh.

I worry about those supplements. I remember someone suggesting St. Johns to me once, and I said, "you know that can effect birth control pills, are you trying to get me knocked up?!"

I've got a friend (51) going though it, she's tried a lot of stuff, mostly just lost her $$.

I will look into it!

Hi Blueflower,
Hope you are feeling okay.
I know what you mean about avoiding exercise, I've been doing that for 48 years. My kids roll around laughing when I tell them that I am going to exercise. I get my own back by telling them that if I go a strict diet I will not buy snacks.....usually shuts them up!
My DH also has very bad health and has to watch his food and exercise. He has heart failure and kidney failure, at 49 he has the same problems as an 80 year old. We eat a ton of vegetables and fruits, very little protien, I would actually go vegetarin but my oldest son would think I am starving him!!

Hope you get those hot flushes sorted, must be awful. So far I haven't had them and am not looking forward to it. I do suffer from insomia, most nights if I get two hours of sleep I am lucky. Actually since I have started to exercise my sleeping pattern is a lot better.

Take care and welcome
Jackie

Since alot of my old friends have decided to get back on the boards I thought I would follow!

I'm a 49 year old who finally got tired of feeling sick and tired! I started counting WW points and getting at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. I lost 55 pounds and have kept it off for over a year. I have about 10 more pounds that I would like to lose. I enjoy walking but I broke my toe in early August and have been unable to wear closed toe shoes. I'm finally ready to get back in the routine of walking every morning so I'm hoping the board helps keep me accountable.

It's good to be back!

Page 3 already?! This is great!

I've been reading but just haven't been feeling the greatest. I've tweaked my anti-candida diet a bit to hopefully alleviate some of the symptoms. I am also in the midst of a wicked cold but my naturopathic doctor says it is my body relasing all the toxins and gunk from my system. OK.I just wish it would go away fast!!!! One good thinkg about feeling crappy is food is the last thing on my mind!

It is "only" supposed to go up to 32C today and Hurricane Earl has already hit shore.

Next time I'm back I'll do personals!

Today is a long run day...have 8 miles on deck...it will take me more than 2 hours because I'm a slow runner. I wish I could say I just "jump" right in, but even after a year, it's still a challenge to push myself. My plan is to start around 2pm. If i don't set a time, i keep pushing it back, LOL I'm hoping one day I'll wake up and go...YEAH, big run today!!!! I keep waiting

Beautiful weather here this weekend, and I'm excited because I go away for a few days with DH next week - and it looks like blue skies ahead!

------------

FF2000 - thank you. Yeah, the pride is cool...i walk with more confidence these days.

Monkey- glad he's liking HS so far. My son is being very positive about it this year, which is a nice change

Jackie - that's interesting about the women and things. What do you find yourself leaning towards in terms of changing to reach your goals? So glad you're sleeping better with exercise.

Annie - Walk away the pounds...i've used those before, very nice videos. Did you move locally? ooh, read more, bought your own home, after renting, nice! Happy for you, and yeah for taco bell not being too yummy for you...it's the little things.

Becky- back to swimming soon! For me, I'm wedged into the tub like a piece of cheese, so I skip it and stick with showers for now. I love going to hotels that have a great tub.

Hiya Blue, welcome. I only started running at 42 I'm in perimenopause (since late 30's) and ready to be done all ready - guess it's not in the cards for me yet. Hopefully you and H can find a pattern for maybe some walks or bikerides togeether.

OnMyWay, great to see you again...and yeah on keeping off 55 pounds

Dee- enjoy your boat time and the long weekend

Maddie, how long does he expect the die off to last (reaction)? about a week? a few days?

I joined 3FC back in August of 2009, at that time I weighed 252....I will never forget that day...I was at the doctor's for a routine checkup and the nurse was weighing me with the old fashioned weighted scale.....when she moved that big silver weight over to the 250 slot....well, she saw the look on my face and gently said, we can talk about healthy eating and exercise options, its ok. Bless her for that.

Then fast forward to February 2010 when I was down to 207, a loss of 45 lbs!!! Then life threw me several curve balls at once and I neglected keeping up with my food/exercise plan for the next six months and put 17 lbs back on. I am happy to say that this morning the scale reads 222.5, Wow, a loss of 1.5 lbs this past week!!!!

Welcome to all the newcomers and hello to all the ladies and gents that gave me such great support and advice last Autumn and Winter. I really missed being here and I am very pleased to be back. Like we all tell each other, its ok if you have a bad day or you slip a bit in your plan, just get back on track and don't be hard on yourself!!!

wow - i've been away for the last week with no internet access, and look what happens - about a million new people show up!! Great to see everyone here.

I'll continue what you've all been doing with the intro thing...

I'm 42, married for 13yrs, no kids, no pets now either although we're hoping to get a dog again early next year when the travelling schedule settles down a bit.

I work for a chemical company and in my division our customers are the mining industry. I'm a technical specialist and spend most of my time going off to different mines around the world and working in their labs or on their processing equipment trying to improve their processes with our chemicals.

Weight is a constant battle mainly because i love eating, and there's virtually no foods that i dislike! Luckily i enjoy healthy foods and luckily i like exercising too although all of this doesn't make up for too much eating!

I'm a runner too and normally run about 3 times a week for about 30min to 80min at a time at the moment, although i'd like to get back into the half marathons too by next year. I also go to the gym a few times a week when i'm home, except that i travel so much that i'm actually not at home all that often!

I've put on a couple of pounds in the last 3-4 weeks which is making me a bit grumpy. It's no surprise, i totally deserve it, but i just need to get motivated to cut back a bit. Here we go again, sigh...........

I did my 8 mile training run yesterday and I'm feeling it today! Running is such a mental game. Physically, you know you can keep going, even when you're aching, but mentally you want to stop...so it's talking yourself into "keep going"...I do think after my next half marathons I'm going to cut back some on the longer distances for awhile. Don't want to burn out, and would like to work on getting a little faster. Short or long distances, my pace is locked in and I'd like to improve it.

Food wise, making good choices. I seem to do better when I'm in training mode...it's when I take that break that I'm at my worst. Going away for a few days next week, so that will also be a challenge not to get into vaca-brain I can have whatever I want mode also.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend - sunshine and 70's here, it's beautiful in New Jersey today.
-----------

Hydra, glad to see you again, and good job for getting back on track. I had a similar up/down, but overall my choices are more consistent. I'll take more good days than bad, and I'm learning to deal with the bad. Sorry your last 6 months have been rough ones for you. Hopefully the days ahead will be full of sunshine and laughter.

Ange, I just got tired reading your post! You're on the go, that must be fascinating traveling the world to so many different locations. Do you love the travel part of it, or does it get old? Yeah, another runner!

It is a cloudy, humid Monday morning here in Japan.
There is a massive typhoon heading our way, so looks like tidying up outside and making sure everything is safe. Hubby and I always argue about whether the typhoon will hit or not, my thinking is to prepare for the worse, hope for the best, he goes with wait and see!!
Weekend was a disaster diet wise, no exercise and lousy food!! Never mind, it didn't show on the scales this morning which helps me to put it behind me.
I am not trying to 'diet' as such but to eat more healthy. But with a rake thin 18 year old, who would live on chocolate if given the choice, it is not that easy.

Deb.....You ran 8 miles, amazing. Well done. I struggle with one mile walk!!

Hydra...I know all about curve balls. Why do they always seem to happen when we decide to do something positive in our lives. In July our oldest dog died. She had been sick for a few months and we were hoping that she would recover but she didn't. The hardest part was that this dog saved my 2nd sons life a few years back. My son was really depressed because of on going bullying and walking the dog, sometimes for hours on end, really helped him. Of course the dog died just as I redetermined to lose weight!!!

Better go and start the day!!
Not sure if I will get chance to check in for a few days, depends on this typhoon!! If not take care everyone!!

I have survived 2 weddings in as many days! My son's wasn't the jerry springer episode that I expected, but I still wish he had waited : ( As a bonus my ex's girlfriend has gained quite a bit of weight and was dressed poorly, so I looked much better than she does!(I know, I shouldn't gloat) Now to get back to a normal life! I did make it to the farmer's market yesterday thanks to a friend and got the last few half-gallons of raw milk I wanted : ) Now to stay on track with eating healthier and figuring out a new workout schedule.
