Good day all,
I'm trying to get more organized, so this morning I did 1hr15m of walking so I can have my Saturday free. I also put together something for tomorrow's dinner (beef stuffed tomatoes). I was going to make it tonight but my mother got herself a bun for a hamburger so I figured why not. I kind of forgot that I'd agreed to switch burger night to Wednesday as that's the day she has the car and goes to the deli/bakery for her bread.
I'm stealing a few minutes to catch up. I definitely need to do some math homework. I made that mistake on last Wednesday (ie. not paying attention to what I needed to do for tomorrow) and then ended up running around at night getting stuff ready. So after lunch I'm going to take my books outside and work on my math. I printed lecture notes just a few minutes ago for one of tomorrow's classes. That's my slight pet peeve - the new electronic nature of school. I don't object to it, but I wish they'd get their act together. Two teachers use the default system, however, one uses a second one, and another uses a third one. So you seem to jump around a lot to just check things.
I suspect by the time I get the routines down, they'll all change.
Julia - sorry about your problems with the weight. I know (for me) that not planning/journalling what I eat is just not possible. I really think it's likely going to be a lifestyle thing for me (no matter how much weight I lose, or how long it's off). I've shown that I can't be trusted when I'm not counting. Good luck on getting back on track. I suspect that some of your gain is likely just water, so keep on track and I'm sure some of it will come back off.
Brenda - I don't know what plan you're following, but yes too many 'just a few' can be dangerous. I posted something on another thread here today (going to see if I can find it) about estimating.
Make sure that your food intake is really what you think it is. There shouldn't be any guesses or estimates. For example, this morning I had:
2 large eggs fried in 1 tsp (5grams) butter
1.2oz homemade oat bread
1 Tb jam (measured using a level Tb)
5.6oz nectarine
That was a 377 calorie breakfast. It's really easy to go over on things. Let's say I eyeballed everything:
eggs (no issue)
butter (5g) - just a little extra, say 7g
bread (homemade slices average 1.2, but can be as little as 1.0 and sometimes 1.6) - so let's say I used the average, but it was a 1.6 (so .4 over)
jam - heaping Tb - 1 extra tsp
nectarine - 7oz one (I did put one back that was that size, they weren't obviously much different)
Those very small changes would make a difference of 73 calories. Not a huge number, but take that over 6 different meals and it could add up to more than you would think. In this case the breakfast would have been 19% higher in calories than I'd logged. I'm not saying that this is an issue you have, but it's something people should be aware of. Especially if you've been at it for a while, as I know it can be easy to get to the point where you think you know what 1 tsp of butter is. I admit I always put the pan on the scale and weigh it out - and most of the time I can do it without looking at the number. However, I know if I wasn't double-checking myself there might be a tendency to underestimate what I was eating.
Oh, and I find that 1.5Tb of hummus with 4oz of carrots a much better choice for 100 cals (but that's just me).
Debi - glad to hear that you're doing well (even with the bad weather).
Cyn - I'm glad you talked about checking your weight on the doctor's scale. I did that 'only a couple of pounds' over justifying last year when I knew I was under, then over 330 (the maxium for my scale). By the time I admitted it was probably more than a few pounds I was up to 358. So do keep in mind that once you don't get a weight it can be so easy to be gaining.
Catherine - I know what you mean... although I'm definitely not looking forward to the snow!
Annie - good luck at the humane society. I think I'd have a problem with it as I'd want to take them all home. Oops, just saw your later post. And yes, school books are heavy!
Debbie -
The last challenge I decided that I just couldn't keep up with the threads. There also appeared to be a number of people who lost during the previous challenge, gained weight in the break, and were losing the same weight over. I think I didn't like the idea of competing with people who dropped 6 or 8 pounds the first week.
Carol - some weeks I'll find that the scale just jumps up and takes all week to come back down. I haven't been able to pin it down to something specific, so now I just ignore it.
NuevaVida - I don't know if it helps but I used to do a job where I was on my feet all day (at my top weight). It was worse when I stood in one place, so if you're in the same situation again, try walking around more. It sounds strange, but it seemed to help.
Angie - I never could get into TBL challenge. If it helps, I quit the last one about 4 or 5 weeks in. It did not stop my weight loss, it continued on just fine. There's no shame in deciding that something isn't for you.
Bernice - I'm not sure how to help as everyone seems to go through days/weeks when they just don't want to do it. Try looking at where you're normally taking your calories and maybe shift them around. ie. I have to have a snack in the afternoon, but in a pinch I can do without one in the morning. So maybe plan in a treat once a week. Also, make sure with your daily plan that you're enjoying what you eat. I find that fact helps me a lot.
Okay, I give up. I've had lunch, done some homework (but not finished). I had hoped to catch up completely, but it's not going to happen. So just a big

to anyone I've missed. I hope you're all having a good, on plan week!
