Woohoo! I WISH I could swim during my lunch hour! You're so lucky to be that close to a pool! Good luck!

Man, it doesn’t take long to get seriously behind on posts. Yesterday was our wedding anniversary, and I did okay until dinner, but I’m not going to beat myself up about that. I also had an accident yesterday. I was walking through a parking lot on my way from bus stop to a Lebanese bakery when I was clipped by a car. It was some kids coming out of the drive-thru at McDonalds (I always new fast food would be the end of me), and they were spinning wheels on the ice acting like teenagers do. They just barely touched me as they went past and didn’t stop because they probably didn’t realize what had happened. I ended up in a snow bank on my bad knee again. For those who have ever had a bad orthopedic injury you’ll understand that it isn’t the pain of a minor injury that’s the hardest part, it is the fear of the other kind of pain or the fear of having to have additional surgery that is killer. I read a report that a bad orthopedic injury can actually cause PTSD including flash-backs. I believe it. I’ve got a little bruise on my knee, and a bigger one on my ego, and himself is acting as if he isn’t going to allow me out of the house alone again.

This is from the National Institute on Aging: Ten tips to live longer and healthier.

1. Eat well. Have a balanced diet, and load up on vegetables and fruit, at least five helpings per day.

2. Exercise, exercise, exercise! That means on a regular basis. If you have any chronic illnesses or health concerns, check with a doctor first. (Consistent, vigorous physical activity releases endorphins, which decrease stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. It balances blood sugar levels by burning excess sugar in the bloodstream and making cells more sensitive to insulin. It burns calories and body fat and promotes restful slumber. Furthermore, people who stick with an exercise plan typically feel more self-confident and gain a sense of control over their lives.)

3. Make regular health checkups part of your routine. That includes your teeth. (The Edmonton Journal had an article today that those with any type of gum disease are 2/3rds more likely to have pancreatic cancer which is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in North America. Gum disease can increase your changes of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and several other nasty things.)

4. If you smoke, quit! It’s never too late to benefit from quitting.

5. Be sensible about what you do in your daily activities. For example, have safety habits in place at home to prevent falls. When you drive, wear a seatbelt. Be careful when you go outside and avoid overexposure to hot and cold weather. (I saw a show where they asked a trauma surgeon about his cases and he said that if everyone wore seatbelts and helmets, avoided “boy toys” such as four-wheelers, jetskies, and snowmobiles, and got home by midnight, because unless you are a cop or nurse, there’s nothing you can do at 4am that you can’t do before midnight, that he’d be out of a job.)

6. Stay connected to a social network. Keep in touch with friends and family (and Fatchicks!).

7. Keep busy. It’s good to stay active through activities like work, volunteering, and being involved in the community.

8. Don’t drink to excess. Alcohol is okay in moderation, but don’t drink and drive!

9. Keep financial stress to a minimum by having your records in good order, having an organized budget, and being attentive to your investments. Plan for your long-term needs. (I used to love that commercial where they showed someone with an expensive watch or bracelet and showed how much that would have been worth if the money had been invested for retirement)

10. Maintain a positive attitude. Do all you can to cultivate positive feelings, such as engaging in activities that make you happy.

Hi everyone

Well, it was the worst day today at work. Still having issues with that idiot that I have spoken of before. Made my point known today to my boss too. He actually opened the can of worms! Anyway, another day and off for 3.... i can't wait!

I think I have figured out what I may have to do to be able to get all my exercise in. Today I came home, put supper in the oven and got on the treadmill right away. 30 min later, supper was cooked and I was finished of the part that I HAVE to do every day If I eat or sit and get lazy than I dont want to do much afterwards. Maybe I CAN beat this thing!!

Tomorrow is a full day at work, then I have to get groceries than off to the pool so I wont be around much. Know that I will be thinking of you....

I'm sure I will be back later....

bahecasmart - hello and I am sorry that you have been diagnosed with diabetes, is it something that will change when you have lost weight? I guess every cloud has a silver lining and the one here is that you got the kick in the butt that you needed to make you decide you need to lose weight and get yourself healthy. I look forward to cheering you as the lbs come off

That's great that you found out about the pool and that you plan on going swimming twice a week there. I hope you will enjoy that exercise, that will be one hurdle you have gotten over, finding an exercise you want to do!

Lilion - see didn't I tell you that we would be hitting that 100 lb milestone together!! on your latest loss

Emily - it's a shame that you didn't see a loss after two weeks with Paul McKenna. BUT even if you don't lose weight with that system you are learning how to eat only when you are hungry, so by the time you do get your weight off you will know you can eat what you want, but sensibly, and maintain any weight loss you have. Of course it would be wonderful if you could lose the Paul McKenna way, so I am still keeping my fingers crossed for you. Have you been watching Paul on GMTV?

Shadie - When I was married before I had a big three bedroom house with a dining room, kitchen and living room downstairs. I could so easily clean that house all in one day without breaking a sweat. I couldn't have gone dancing afterwards like you could have Now I am in a tiny two bedroom house, so doing the kitchen and living room on the same day is quite a come down, BUT still brilliant compared to what I have been able to do over the last couple of years. Like you said though, you, and I will be able to do all our housework again in one day, some day

Valerie - good for you for getting up in the morning to exercise. I am not a morning person either, and when I used to work out at 8 am I spent the first half hour exercising and yawning I have decided I am better off exercising later in the day so I do it at 11 am now, that's a much better time, and I can get some housework done first!

Patti - very glad to hear that your leg wasn't too bad today. Have you looked into getting those cod liver oil capsules?

Catherine - I am sorry to hear that you were in that accident, it's very lucky that you weren't more badly hurt

Happy belated anniversary, wow the year has gone so fast hasn't it. It seems like only yesterday that you were sewing the dress ready for the big day.

Brenda - I am so sorry that you had such a tough day in work. It's really awful to be in that kind of situation I am sure, counting the days until you don't have to go in.

Good for you for getting your exercise done while your supper was cooking. It's a great idea to get it done out of the way so you can do what you want for the rest of the day

Take care all and bye for now,

Hugs,

Ammi

Hey again

Has anyone heard of the "simply for life" program? It is a weightloss type/fitness program. They opened a new place here in the city and I think that I am going to go check out their program. They have a seminar on Saturday morning to intro people about it. I think I will go and check it out. Its about $100/ month I think but I only have to go for as long as I feel like I need to. Once I get all the info I'll know more.....

Sorry Brenda, can't help you out with that one. I hope you get to go along to the introduction day on Saturday to find out more about it. You'll have to let us know all about it.

Hugs,

Ammi

Ammi: Yep, all my housework is done except cleaning out the frig. I do it every Thursday usually so it shouldn't be too bad. Our kitchen water is frozen. It is weird that it is only in the kitchen, Praise God, but none the less I have no water in there. I had to get some from the bathroom tub to rinse the dishes today.

Simone: Congrats to you on -3. That is awesome. Keep up the great work.

Bahecasmart: Welcome! I hope you enjoy swimming. I myself just started swimming two times a week and I have done it once so far this week and enjoyed it very much. I hope you enjoy your time swimming too.

Lilion: You will be rockin 100 pound loss in no time flat. You and Ammi need to have a party.

Shiffysmom: I don't recall welcoming you so..... Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you better as we go along this journey.

Val: Hugs.

Shadie: Hi and hugs

Catherine: Sooo glad you didn't get hurt much worse in your accident. Happy anniversary late! Hope it was wonderful. So glad you are back and okay.

Brenda: Good job on the treadmill. Have fun swimming too.

Well everyone I am going to go shower now. I got all my house work done not just the back half of the house. It amazes me that this time last month I had a house keeper that I hired to do the work I did today. I feel so happy to have done the work myself plus I save some money! All my exercises are done for the day so after my shower I think I will put my feet up and cuddle under a blanket for a bit.

Blessings all,
Annie

Hello all,

Just a fly-by post, as I have a ton to do tonight. However, I wanted to come by and promise not to complain about the lack of winter in my part of the country any more. Our first winter storm hit on Monday and it was all freezing rain/ice for us. As a result, at 3pm on Monday, I lost the power (and subsequently heat) at my apartment. It just came on today at 4pm! Two days without electricy made me realize how spoiled I am and dependent on the internet!

Anyway, have to do a ton of errands. Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I'll be back at a later date!

LOL ammi - we are not in a state of emergency. it did snow in the northernmost part of los angeles this morning, but rest assured, we are not under a state of emergency.

to the person that was looking for alternative rewards... ANYTHING can be a reward!!! buy yourself something shiny! a new pair of earrings, a manicure, a pedicure, a ring (a NICE ring for real milestones) or a charm bracelet. and add a charm for each 5lbs you lose... hey i like that idea. i think im gonna do that myself

my reward system is that i put 10 dollars for every pound i lose into my savings account, and when i get to my 10% im gonna buy myself a seatbelt purse. they are really fun... check out http://www.seatbeltbags.com/

annie. i am SO proud of you for putting in such effort.

Boy this thread is moving fast lol .. okee .. I got back from the gym not long ago, Ash is cooking dinner for us (home made sweet & sour chicken meatballs and rice) so I thought I would get in here before I let the day go by and try to catch up.

The gym was great .. I have a lovely personal trainer called Katrina! We have so much in common in our past so she is lovely She is a hard taskmaster tho lol .. got in a total of 50 minutes of working out for the fitness assessment .. not too bad a result either

My program consists of the treadmill and exercycle for 15 min each, then 20 minutes in the weight area, then crunches and stretches for 10 minutes. She has also said that whichever aerobics class I do not to do the program on the same day as I will kill myself rofl.

When I was there today I noticed how busy the pool area was as its the school holidays, so I think I will just do the exercise programme for the next couple of weeks until school goes back as I dont really feel confident enough yet to put on a swimsuit with so many people there. But this exercise regime will definitely keep me busy I think

I have set 2 goals with my trainer. The first is to reach 110kg by my birthday (but I have a reserve happy point at 115 lol), the second it to reach 90-95kg by Xmas. When I reach that point I will then decide how much further I want to go .. will still be overweight, but I cant remember the last time I was under 100kg so that will be a buzz on its own lol .. will also mean I would have lost about 130 pounds! So Im almost halfway there

Okee .. gotta go .. time to save the rice or it ends up fried instead of boiled rofl.

Huggies love and laughter everyone!

Good Morning All,

I am a little earlier posting this morning because here it is on a Thursday and I have done all my housework for the week. I will just have my laundry to do on the weekend, but apart from that I am all up to date with everything I am glad I am able to go online a little earlier because I have quite a few things to do.

Annie - ok you have put me to shame now. How did you manage to ALL of your house with that bad back of yours? That's the one thing of mine that does stop me doing all of my house in one go and I am sure it's not as bad as yours. I guess I am a chicken and the first 'pull' on my back I feel then I stop. I don't want to end up stuck in bed and not being able to exercise

Jen - sorry to hear that you are having such freezing weather. How did you cope when you lost your heating? I hope you managed to keep warm.

Luan - thank you for telling me the truth about your weather, I guess our news people exaggerated a LOT. They showed poor Arnie hobbling around on his crutches looking at an orchard of ruined frozen oranges and made that bold statement about the state of emergency. I am glad it's not that bad there. I really thought Global Warming had gone beserk when I heard that

I LOVE the look of those seatbelt bags! Before I looked at the link I just imagined some bag that attached to your seat belt in the car and I wondered what the 'fun' would be in that lol. I see now what you meant, and I don't blame you for wanting one. That's a great idea to put money in the bank for every lb you lose and then to treat yourself to one of those bags. They sure are expensive, ouchies

Kymberly - on the 3.5 lbs lost, that's brilliant It seems to me that you are like me, now that you are determined to lose the weight it's not coming off quickly enough for you. We both have to remember how long it took us to get to the sizes we are, and appreciate that even if it only comes off at 1 or 2 lbs a week we will still get to our target weights a lot quicker than we got to our highest weights

Katt - so glad you had such a great time at the gym, it makes the world of difference to find something you enjoy like that. I don't blame you on waiting to use the pool, how long til the kids go back to school?

How lovely that Ash was cooking home made sweet and sour meat balls with rice. I don't mind telling you that I nearly started drooling when I read that. You've really got me fancying something like that for my tea tonight. Time to dig out the recipe books I think

Ok got to go now, but I will be back later,

Hugs,

Ammi

Good Morning, Just a quick post before im off to work
AMMI: Thanks for the supportive words. i have to remind myself that any lose is a good thing. i have three male friends that are also doing the wt loss challenge as a team, and their loses have been awesome! One of them lost 10 lbs last week and 8 this week, but i have to remember, he has alot more wt than i to lose, and hes a man, lol. He also said he quit drinking any alcohol and that made a big difference.
No matter how long it takes, im in for the long haul. as you said i didnt become overwt overnight, so i wont become skinny overnight either, lol
I hope everyone has a great day.
Peace
