RESOLVE to Exercise in JANUARY!
Welcome! ...To the January exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit, give ourselves some accountability, and get healthier in the process! In this thread, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or sweaty housework! Early in the month (or before it starts) set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away. We're also tracking how many minutes we have exercised as a group! In 2006 we came close to 200,000 minutes. I'd love to see us surpass that goal this year. To start, please first post your goals and then add your minutes (for yourself and the group) and get some support and accountability! If you want to join us during the month -- GREAT! Just let us know how many minutes you want to exercise in what's left of the month! Finally, if you're new to this, pay attention to how to add your minutes to the group... people get confused if they can't easily see our new total. I recommend showing the previous total, then your minutes, then the new total (which should be the sum of the other 2 numbers). For example, if the group had done 500 minutes already and you did 30, here's what you would do: Group total ~ 500 + 30 = 530 minutes Let's get 2007 off to a great start by moving and shaking!! |
I set a goal of 1500 minutes for December and won't make that, mostly because of my foot injury. In January I have some travel planned and don't know how I'll do when I'm gone, so I'm going to set a goal of 1300 minutes for this month.
|
I was able to do reach my 500 min goal (even with being sick) so I am going to up it to 600 this month.
Personal Goal - 600 min. |
Alright. Here it goes. Last time I joined an exercise thread I quit in DAYS. But I think I can do it this time. I'm setting the goal small though and will try to exceed it as opposed to setting it high and then feeling bad when I don't make it. I figure even 15 minutes a day, five days a week, is better than I've ever done before. So that's what I'm setting my goal at.
300 minutes of exercise in January 2007. |
Well, I will stick to my pattern. My goal for November was 600, December was 700, so I'll go for 800 in January :)
Wait...no...I've already done over 800 in December (I kicked my goal's A$$!), so I'll make my January goal 900 minutes :o :carrot: |
so, because it's looking sketchy for me finishing strong in december, i'm going to stick with the same goal for january: 1000 minutes. i think without the holiday insanity, the fact that i'm joining a yoga class, and lap swimming, i can do it. i hope to beat this goal by alot!
|
Okay, I'm in again. This was great.
Since January is a horrendously busy month at work, I'm lowering my goal to 900 minutes. Like last month, I'll blog my mintues here. It really helped to see that I was doing something everyday and see when I was being lazy or letting other things interfere. |
I think I'm going to set my goal for 930 minutes for January. That's 30 minutes of SOME sort of exercise every single day. If I can't find time to exercise on my lunch hour, or on breaks, or in the morning, or in the evening doing houseowrk, or SOMETHING, I'm probably just making excuses. I'll add my minutes to my sig in January when I get back from my trip!
|
I'm going to join in my very first exersize goal! :) I'm going to shoot for 1000 minutes in January! I've been very active at my gym for the last six months and I think this goal is reasonable for me! I'm looking forward to keeping track of this with you guys! :)
|
I will start January with 300 minutes of exercise (throughout the month).
|
I made my exercise goal, my first exercise goal, plus a little.
Therefore, my January goal will be 150 minutes, hopefully more. Sandy |
I've never done the exercise thing before, because I had a class I attended regularly, but I don't now, so I'm going to try this time. I'm going to try for 600 minutes. I did 60 minutes today shoveling snow, so if it snows at least 10 times in January, that would do it for me.
|
With 3 days left in the month, I will surpass my December goal of 400. That is even with blowing off about a week and half surrounding the holiday. So, assuming I stay steady throughout the month of January, it seems like 600 should be a fairly reasonable goal for me.
|
I won't make my December goal, but I got closer than I have before, so I'm going to set the same goal for January: 500 minutes. I hope to be able to exceed that, since my stamina seems to have improved over the last few months and I'll have a more flexible schedule starting in January, but since I've never gotten to 500 minutes before I'm going to stick with that anyway.
|
Can I join in too :D
I'm going to try for a total of 900 minutes - 30 minutes per day.... |
I'm in for 1000. I havent made the last few but I've found some renewed motivation :) Let's go!
Brenda  |
My goal for January is take my dog for a walk EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I sometimes don't bother when I have been at work as my Dad takes him for me twice during those days!
He's a hyper Jack Russell so we shall both benefit from that daily walk... No excuses... he will go out every day with me! Even if it's just 15 minutes around the block! |
Hi All,
I only made it half way to my December goal because of bad health and of course the busy time of year that December is. But I know I will make it to my goal in January. So here I am officially setting that goal for 1500 minutes :D See you all in January :) Hugs, Ammi :newyear: |
Well, I doubt I'll meet my 500 minute goal for December, so I'll keep it at 500 for January.
|
I'd like to join you all if I may! Exercise is my biggest stumbling block, but I find without it, all the great eating in the world isn't going to get me where I want to go. I think I'll start with 600 minutes and work my way up from there...
|
I would like to join as well :) Whoopeeee! My first exercise month! I will set my goal at a reasonable 400 minutes for the month. After that I will see where I go for February!
Good luck, all :) Katie |
Okay, I feel like such a whimp for having such a low goal but, I have to make sure my PT says it is okay. I had a goal of 100 last month which I passed so, I am going to up it to 300 minutes for January.
|
I have set the November Goal and failed horribly!!
It's alright. This is my fresh start in a new year! By the end of 2007 the hott chicks of 3FC will see me at least 50 pounds lighter!! I am very excited!! So I am here by setting my minutes at 620. That gives me 30 minutes a day! Hey -- I had a question, would walking around the campus at my college count for minutes?? See you girls in January!! |
i will jump in with 500 mins. hopefully the weather will stay nice so when i go back to school at the end of January i can start riding my bike again. i really enjoyed that.
|
Well, I haven't been meeting my exercise goals, which has me really frustrated. I can't decide if I should lower my goal, or keep it as is, with the hope I will make it this month.
I think I'm going to lower it a bit to 900, instead of 950. |
Lots of people thinking hard about their goals. My personal take on it is that it is hard to jump start into a routine where you are exercising every single day for a whole month, especially more than 30 min. I don't want anyone to feel bad for starting low. We are all in different places and should only be comparing to ourselves.
Think about how you can realistically get in exercise and what your constraints are in terms of ability, time, etc. And don't worry about setting low. You can always build later! Erika -- Personally, I don't count all the walking I do. I have a great pedometer that tracks "aerobic" minutes. In order for them to count you have to basically be on the move 10 minutes straight. It allows for a very short break in three. So, what I tend to do is not count minutes unless they are "aerobic". So, when I take my dogs for a walk, they tend to stop while they "do their business". I keep walking or jogging in place while they do this so I don't stop my walking and get my min 10 minutes in. The pedometer is fine with me breaking for a few seconds to pick up the poop however! For the new year, I am not going to count walking unless it's at least 15 minutes... I'm fit enough now that I can push myself and my dogs a little more. Anyway, all this to say that you should decide for yourself what counts as exercise for you. I tend to count "intentional" exercise and that is at least at a moderate level. I am trying to build habits for intentional exercise. I hope that helps, but this is a great place for us all to talk about what we count as exercise! |
Count me in for 930 minutes in January... :)
|
Well the days that we went to tour the campus and walk from class to class to get the feel it was like a 10 minute walk from some classes. I guess I'll have to use my best judgement. Thanks girls! I'm ready!!
|
Starting off the new month and new year with a bang, I did 30 minutes WATP's and 30 minutes of weight training. Looks like I am the first (but if I'm wrong, please correct me), so that makes:
GROUP TOTAL = 60 |
Looks like Erika had 10, making the group total 70. So add in my 20 minutes on the eliptical and we're at 90 minutes so far! :D
My total = 20 minutes Group total = 90 minutes |
Actually, Erika seemed to be talking about the days she toured and got the feel of the campus, not that she did it today, so for now, let's take it out, unless Erika says she did it today!
Group total: 80 minutes! Let's go chickies, can't wait to see those #s go up! |
dec was not a good exercise month for me so i will set my goal this month for1400 .
|
Got in 30 minute with Leslie. Probably going for a dog walk later, if the road isn't too icy. But for now, I'll just post my 30 minutes.
Personal: 30/900 Group: 80 + 30 = 110 |
Starting the New Year off slow. I'm going for the "slow and steady wins the race" angle. My WEIGHT goal for the first 4 months of 2007 is to lose 24 pounds - where I usually wouldv'e said an extra 2lbs each month, so, slower this time. My goal for minutes in January is 600. I will go from there next month. :)

90 minutes of moving books/bookcases up and down stairs and total rearrange of the furniture in my office...
Personal: 90/930 Group: 110 + 90 = 200 |
I'm going to set mine lower this month at 1000. Getting so sick the last half of December really messed things up for me and even after I did get back in to some of my exercise I didn't even log it or keep track. So I'm not going to try to push myself as hard until I can gradually build my strength back up. Didn't do much at all this weekend except sleep and read but tomorrow is a new day and off we go!! :woohoo:
|
I am going to set my goal at 1000 minutes for the month. I figure it should be an interesting month with a number of changes and challenges. However, I am also going back to my minimum 10 minutes a day commitment because that really worked for me in the past. I better go get started on that right now!
|
Got on the treadmill for 40 min tonight. I still can't walk fast because of my toe, but I did really raise the incline!
Group total ~ 200 + 40 = 240 I love it at the beginning of the month when the math is easy! Tho, I think I love it more at the end of the month when we shatter some records!! |
Let me know if I'm doing this wrong:
45 minute walk this evening Me: 45/600 Group total: 240 + 45 = 285 |
Nothing wrong with that, CC--glad to have you join us!
Started the first work day of 2007 with 30 minutes of WATP :) Personal: 30/900 Group Total: 30 + 285 = 315 |
