Welcome Unthinkables. Good luck on your first run!
philana I think that would be enough rest time, especially if you are feeling good.
I did my W1D2 run last night. My knee was 100 times better last night until stretching at the end. I stepped up on the curb and felt my knee flair up. I iced again and feel great today. Almost done with W1 Can't wait for W2.
Good job KayNicole - smart thing icing right away. I'm kinda "ah, it's no biggie" often. Hihi.
Is it possible that after just a week on c25k I already am more fit? My heartrate was really not spiking as much as it used to at the gym with my cardio today. I was really amazed. Maybe it's just because I am doing the gym for a bunch of weeks now, but it's like it fast-tracked since I started c25k. Which is only 4 runs so far... haha.
Thank you philana, Scarlett, and KayNicole! Seriously! Very motivational.
I ended up going the distance of 2 miles today. But to be honest with myself, I don't know if I stayed jogging for 60 seconds. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning, but wow. Muscles in my legs are hurting already.
When do you all know if you're "ready" to move to the next week any way?
Good work, KayNicole!!! I hope I can get to that point! Owww ow!
The run really killed me today. Once I stopped jogging, I nearly hacked up a lung trying to catch my breath.
Gonna stick with this workout until I can do it without morning soreness. I need to let my legs/body get stronger
Unthinkables - I've definately taken longer on some weeks than others. Usually it's like I'll be stuck on one week for 2-3 weeks (or longer) then breeze though the next one in no time.
I usually move on when I can complete the workout 2-3 times without feeling like I want to puke. Or if I do it once and feel really good, like I can keep going when its over. Sometimes I have a workout that continues to kill me no matter how many times I do it. In this case, I do it 3-4 days in a row. If I can physically complete it that many times (reguarless of how crappy I feel), I know I'm ready to move on. For me, knowing when to move on is more of a feeling.
I'm going to take your advice Scarlett. However, it's confusing to me whether or not I feel overworked or just lazy. I am just as out of shape mentally as physically so I often confuse my mind's need to stop with my body.
I'm on W1D3..... My legs are KILLING me.
I've made plans for a 5k in October... but boy, I don't know if I'm being overzealous lol
Hoping to start C25K tomorrow morning!
I tweaked the program a bit tough, cause I want to run a 5K in 7 weeks and I plan to go for 5 runs per week, not three.
Hope it's achievable!
I weighed 216 lbs when I started and was VERY out of shape. It's taken me a little longer to progress though the program but it's definately do-able.
I don't have asthma. I would try the program out, maybe take it a little slower do each workout a few times before you move on. See how you respond to it. Talk to your doctor.
missamelissa: I can't answer your asthma question, but I've always hated running. As in, when we had to run the mile in middle school, I would lie to the teacher after only having run 3 laps to get out of running the 4th one. And that was probably the last time I ran before starting C25K.
But tonight was W5D1 (after a period of not running for 5 days while I moved and had family in town) and it felt GREAT. I actually ended up doing the runs from W5D2 because it felt so great. I think I need new running shoes though because odd things started hurting by the end of my 8 minute run.

wow! I can't believe you ran 8 minutes straight... I was shocked I made it through my 90 seconds the other day... congrats!! that's fantastic! How do you keep motivated, InsidetheBeltway?
I've noticed the first day on it was the hardest, but pushing myself to even begin has kept me motivated. Every time I don't "feel" like running, I remind myself of the feeling of running 30 mins without stopping will feel like.....
what a powerful daydream! I can't wait to go running tomorrow morning! W2D2
Unthinkables: Love your avatar And thank you, believe me -- I was just as surprised when my body didn't keel over and explode at 5:01 of running.
For me (and I don't think I'm unusual in any way here) I have a brain that loves to sabotage me. Your legs can do the work, your lungs will keep breathing, your brain doesn't think you can do it. So during the run I a) try to think about other things, and planning is a great way to do this -- whether it's lunch tomorrow or a new vacation. OR b) give yourself something new for each week of running. Tell all the people on here that you completed something you didn't think you could! Or, it could be something as simple as a new playlist (my personal favorite that got me through weeks 1-4) -- my week 5 treat was a new pair yoga pants from Victoria's Secret because I finally dropped to a Size 12 and they looked okay on me.
The biggest motivator though is don't psych yourself out. Advice I'm trying to follow as I'm staring down the barrel of my first 20 minute run. :P Eventually you get to a point in your run where your body goes, I guess we're running now...
Hope W2D2 went wonderful!

Thank you, InsidetheBeltway! How did your next week go?!
I made it through W2D2, but oh my GOSH! I struggled with it more than W2D1. I'm blaming it on the hot weather, but I think I might just need to stay with this week longer than the last. Has this happened to you?
I've been trying thinking about rewarding myself when I get to week 5, but I can't decide with what yet..
I wanted to get some new jeans or something, but I really haven't been losing any weight which is frustrating! What other training are you doing besides this? I think I may need to up my workout.
Unthinkables: I don't know how you can run outside -- even in MA, I can't do it in this heat. I repeated a day in Week 4 because the 5 minute runs were killing me and I would barely make it through. But also keep in mind you could have just had a bad run. Those happen to everyone too, and I would just see how W2D3 goes before doing or not doing anything.
I do strength training on my off days, and it definitely makes my runs easier. However it also means that I put on muscle and so my weight loss slows RIDICULOUSLY (to 0-1 lbs per week). However I do lose inches and have gone down a pants size since starting C25K as well as flattened my stomach, and shrunk my waist. I would highly suggest involving in a tape measure because you're going to pack on some muscle in the next few weeks.
Today was the dreaded W5D3 and I DID IT. I ran 20 minutes. I'll repeat that. I ran 20 minutes and my body didn't spontaneously combust or shut down. I won't go so far as to say it was easy, but it was manageable. The hardest minutes were the last 5 -- which I found surprising:
20 minutes in: legs start feeling heavy
21:30: lose complete control of my breathing and start gasping for air
22:30 -- realize I only have 2.5 minutes to go and that I can do this!
So excited Daunted by tacking another 5 minutes on next Friday.
WOW. That is seriously IMPRESSIVE! You just inspired me to keep going. After my past two runs, I have been feeling discouraged.. but I am pining for that accomplishment. How the **** do you feel?!
I can't say it enough lol... wow! I haven't weighed myself (except on my obviously broken scale) since I began my diet at the beginning of August so at week 5 on c25k I'm going to weigh myself.
I have been considering trying new weight training exercises at the gym, but my cluelessness about the different machines has inhibited me
