you're farther along than I was when I ran my last one. I was solidly on wk 4. I ran the first mile than walked/ran the rest of it. So you'll probably do great.
Plus I'm sure the adrenaline and the mob of people around you will just get you amped. Just keep telling yourself positive slogans.
"I can run like the wind"
"I can finish strong"
"Beer at the Finish Line"
whatever gets you going. Can't wait to hear how you did.
Hi! Today was the Race for Life. I was so proud of myself, I ran the whole way except for about a minute and a half in the last kilometre because I was so hot and tired! Then I ran the last few hundred metres. It was SO hot today, about 23 degrees by 11am and it's quite humid in England. Phew!
So I finished in 37 minutes and 20 seconds. I think I probably could have shaved a minute off that if there wasn't such a bottleneck at the start (there were 7500 of us!) and I had to start off at a walk. But can't complain, really, because it was a lot of fun!
I am now going to be looking for my next 5k, hopefully a slightly smaller one, and work towards finishing in under 35 minutes.
Thats great that you practically ran the whole thing, especially in nasty weather. I cannot wait for Fall to get here so that it will be better running weather (and I'll be able to run farther). Congrats again.
I did W5D2 today. It was a step back (I did D3 wed) but I'm moving in the right direction so I can't complain. I'll be back there soon.
Can i join in ? pls?
I ran yesterday as W2D2.
I ran today as well, couldn't resist the sound of nature rofl *j/k* so W2D3 completed.
anyways, it's a special day today because in the last round, i missed the start sound so i walked extra 90 seconds AND 2 minutes. So I walked total of 5 min 30 sec. Therefore I decided to see if myself improve any by running another round without the walk. And oh my gosh I can actually run 1km non-stop now without feeling like i'm dying while running. My speed was about 6 minutes for 1km, so i think it's not so bad either. I'm so happy. The first day when I started the program, I couldn't bring myself to run longer than 60 seconds, but now i can actually run 6 minutes. It just felt great.
I want to ask, should I run tomorrow or take a day off? 3 days in a row might be a bad idea, no?
I'm planning to run 4 times per week now, the running schedule might be mess up if i don't run tomorrow (planing to run on Mon, Wed, Thurs and Sat). And this week, counting today as well, only 3 times yet. And i should run 1 more time before moving to week 3. I'm worry if I run on Sunday, and then move to week 3 right after that on Monday, I might feel real tired so I want a rest day before moving up.
What do you guys think?
Annita - I agree with Scarlett, if you listen to your body and it says you're good to go, then go! If you're tired, rest!
I haven't run since the 5k on Sunday. My hip is still messed up. I have had this injury before and it took a month to fully heal, and that was WITHOUT running a 5k on it. It even bothers me when I walk so I hope it hurries up and heads out, I don't want to take too much time off from running otherwise I will never start again!
freedomreins - hope u'll get well soon and get back on track
Scarlett - thanks. I ran today. But I definitely need to take a day off for tomorrow. I was quite tired by the end of 25 minutes and my feet just didn't want to even walk.
Hey curlysue, thankfully it started feeling better almost the next day (probably largely thanks to the painkillers). This doesn't mean it is totally gone though, and I still notice it as soon as I am walking on uneven ground or I turn suddenly or something. I am going to try running tomorrow (one week later) and see how I get on. If it's the same kind of thing I had and doesn't feel like you've pulled a muscle, take some painkillers and try not to walk for a few days. I'm sure that will help, it did for me, and I still did far more walking than I should have as it's my only means of transportation! I hope it heals up for you soon, it's not a good injury to have when you want to run!
Thanks for that, you were very lucky i am still out of action, i am truly gutted about it, i have been told my numerous people that if i get back into it too soon i could cause serious damage..
so i have been resting.. its awful, but have decided that tomorrow i ill exercise, and hopefully eventually i can do my C25K again..
Hey curlysue, unfortunately I am still sort of out of action too. Running the 5k on my sore hip wasn't the best idea and has probably slowed down my healing progress. Either way, it's not too bad now, and I certainly hope that I haven't caused any serious damage if that's what you've been warned against! I've not run since last Sunday (and only one run prior to that) and have instead done some yoga and weights and walking. I still think it's getting better, but I don't want to do too much too soon.
I hope your injury heals quickly! I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for us both!
Just completed W3D1.
It was a great workout except I felt that it's shorter than the previous weeks.
Also I'll add another 90 sec running before 5 minutes cool down walk, or else I'll have to walk 8 minutes straight like today (3 minutes cool down walk for the 3 minutes running and then 5 minutes cool down walk in general).
Just that I have to remember next time
And have to step up my speed a little bit.
Other than that, it was a great work out. I just cannot wait for the next run.
I posted this in the Exercise forum but thought I'd bump this thread up too. This thread got me over the hump of beginning the program and getting into running.
I just finished my 3rd 5K.
This HUGE event included over 2000 runners, a band, blow up slides, tents everywhere and the whole shebang. It benefited wounded warriors and a TON of service people ran it. The course went by the ocean; fire trucks hosed runners, and bagpipe and brass groups also played music as you ran by. There were a lot of service people with missing limbs and in wheel chairs doing the race, which certainly motivated me. It was by far the biggest and best event I've participated in. I enjoyed it greatly.
1st 5K = 5/21, 38 min 216 lbs
2nd 5K = 6/18 , 35 min 204 lbs
3rd 5K = 8/7, 37 min and 30 seconds 196 lbs
I am disappointed with my time but I ran my best race yet in terms of pacing myself and emptying the tank. I literally almost puked at the finish line. I never felt more drained after running. My drenched clothes clung to my dizzy body. I jogged practically the whole race. I kept jogging after mile 2 and only took 2-3 short walking breaks after that. I ran for at least 25 min straight making it my longest run yet (previously 20 min).
I stopped running for about 2 weeks leading up to the race. I only managed to get 3-4 training runs in beforehand. Also the weather was really humid. Other runners said they felt like puking and had disappointing times also. I'm going to chalk my time up to a fluky race and build on the positives. I KNOW I'm in much better shape than 3 months ago. Also this race pushed me to get back to running and not let 2 weeks off turn into 2 months.
Hey Ladies! Today is my first day back to 3FC in 6 months!! Eeeek! I have gained 10 lbs and just this past month I have been feeling really down, fat and unhealthy. It is time to get back to it!
I haven't run since Feb. so I am thinking of starting C25K at the beginning again. I am going to try and get out tonight for a run but I have to find my ipod. I can't wait to catch up with you ladies!
Kay - I've done MUCH worse over 1 month periods (I've easily gained 30 pounds in a month during tough stretches). As long as your getting right back on, it's all good. You'll probably drop like 5 pounds in the first week. Overeating revs up your metabolism and the water weight bloat will go down. It's not that bad.
Good luck with C25K. Be sure to stay positive and stick with it. It gets easier. After 2-3 weeks you'll stop feeling like a zombie after workouts.
Beltway - Great job. I continue to be amazed how much eating poorly affets my runs. After a weekend of eating/drinking I'll barely be able to do half the workout I completed the previous week. I just feel heavy, ackward and tierd trying to run.
As for me, I'm still a little sore from Sunday. I just spent some time on Google and found heat/humidity can drastically affect running times. Most people claim it costs them 1-2 min off their miles. Therefore my weighted time was probably quite good. Come fall my times should be much faster. I plan to get back to the pavement on Wed. Hopefully this dreadful heat wave will pass by then
