I'm a little late joining in, but I'd like to try this challenge. I'm doing Medifast (starting my 2nd week) and the average is 5-7 lbs a week. But I'm going to be conservative with around 3 lbs a week (give or take a pound.) So I'm going to shoot for -39 lbs by Thanksgiving. Since today is Tuesday, I'll try to weigh in on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Thanksgiving Goal- 240!!!

linJber 07-27-2011 01:21 PM

OK - WI was good - down 2 for the week, so that's 6 so far, 24 more to go by Thanksgiving. Hope everyone else is doing ok with this one. This is my big challenge now since I unofficially decided I can meet my Christmas goal by Thanksgiving. We'll see how it goes with less than 25 to lose. It's going to slow down, I know.

great job Lin!!!

It's 17 weeks to go, so you are definitely on track and you've been doing an amazing job keeping up the same pace, so hope that you don't experience much slow down now.

linJber 07-27-2011 04:36 PM

Thanks, April Snow! We are the same height and staring weights were close, too. And it looks like you're losing at about the same pace as I am, too. Or at least the pace I was at a while ago. I just know it will get harder as the excess gets less, so I'm prepared for it! I really don't want to have to buy winter clothes twice this year.

When I started losing, I got by with ill-fitting winter clothes until I lost over 25 pounds and then I took my jeans and nice slacks in - twice!. And I only bought a few things for summer. Several nice tee's, but not too many shorts and just one pair of jeans. I hate the thought of having to buy more than one set of the more expensive winter stuff.

But . . . I know I can get by with just 2 pairs of jeans (I work in jeans or shorts) and can get them at thrift stores or lower priced dept stores. Sweaters will be OK - there is a much larger range of pounds where they'll fit. And I'm never one to like really heavy coats, so I can probably get by with just a fleece jacket for most things in the winter. I kept my favorite old fleece jacket because I figured I could put it over anything I wear this coming winter if I have to for warmth. I don't think you can freeze to death going from the house to the car or the car to the grocery store. Shoveling snow is a different story, so if I have to wear the old one over the new one, I'm OK with that.

I know the world won't end and my spirits won't be crushed if I don't meet my new moved up Thanksgiving goal, (or even if I fall short of my original Christmas goal) but winter clothes shopping would be so much easier. It's bad enough that you have to replace everything but your socks several times during this process! Thanks for the encouraging words.

Lin -

So exciting to think about all the fun new clothes you'll be able to get when you get to goal. And just because you may not buy them at the beginning of the winter doesn't mean you won't be able to get your winter wardrobe a little bit later but still this season. (but you will probably get there for your goal on time anyway!!)

As for me, I'm amazed at the pace I'm losing and totally credit the Dukan Diet for that - I have NEVER lost this quickly and this consistently before. And even though it's a very restrictive low carb/low fat plan, I find it easier to stick with than anything else I've ever tried. Go figure! lol!

Great Job, Lin!! Great job eating out, too. Your salad sounded delicious! And I think taking a taste or two of things is actually pretty smart. I mean, you came away thinking it was super salty - which for me, helps me remember that I don't want it in my body.

Woot for a good WI!

April Snow - I actually bought a bunch of sweaters on total clearance in February that were several sizes smaller than what I was wearing. Six crew and/or V-necks with small ribbed cables from K-Mart for about $3 each, two or 3 Old Navy hoodies that I loved in the bigger size for $10 each, and two Liz Clairborn (did I spell that correctly) from Penney's that I needed to get through spring, but they're ribbed and pull in nicely and will be good next winter, too. It's the coats and jeans that are so costly. And I want the jeans to fit nicely now. I wear sweatshirts with our company logo to work and I think I can alter the ones I just bought last fall. I took my favorite concert tee-shirt apart and made it fit, so I think I can do it with the sweatshirts, too. Then I can shop on "Black Friday" and wait for other clearance sales to get more stuff. And I kept the big Old Navy hoodie sweaters - they are now stylishly oversized look kind of neat over jeans.

Wyllow - thanks for the encouragement - and the salad was really good. I love salad with pears and bleu cheese. Who would even think that would be a good combination? And you're exactly right about the salty taste to the dip - a good reminder that my tastes really are changing.

Should I update my original post with my new weight each week or just post again? Anyways, WI today was ok to me, down 3.

July 21: 223
July 28: 220

envelope 07-28-2011 09:02 AM

My goal weight for Thanksgiving is 148.8
July 07 181.8
July 14 178.4
July 21 177.4
July 28 173.4

Welcome Sarabrooke!

LinJ - our goal for this challenge is close, I am worried about the weightloss slowing down too...but where ever I end up as long as I am making progress I will be THRILLED. Sometimes I find some nice jeans at a local consignment store. I am going to have to dress business casual starting at the end of Aug. Right now I have 3 or 4 pairs of slacks I can wear and when I need to replace them I plan on getting 2 or 3 pairs of slacks and 7 or 8 tops. It seems to take atleast 20lbs for me to change pant sizes, so I will get a few months out of them.

SweetTreat - I update my original post and then cut and paste the section above.
